One year after the battle of Waeth, Merrith Gyse, one of the most powerful wielders alive, has abandoned the prohibited use of magic and built a new life for himself and his wife, Mirabel, and his ward, Tain. When his brother, Loke, arrives seeking help to find his twin, Rydrek, he finds himself tangled in a scheme of vengeance that he can’t escape.
I have been waiting to read this book for several years - since I finished the first book, The Wraith and the Wielder. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, but this one was harder to digest. One of my favorite characters was changed and behaved like a monster, I had trouble separating the characters in my mind as many of the names are similar, and another favorite character seemed to be almost absent from the book. I may try to read this one again in the future (now that I have both books and don't need to wait for one to be published!) and read it directly after Book 1, especially because Book 1 deserves a re-read.
I would not read this as a stand-alone book. The plot is too thick and too intertwined with Book 1. I am glad it is finally in print and available!
