Updated Review [3⭐]:

"Hope always begins as an island."

This is a new version of the book I've read that was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review!

It was very interesting to see the changes made to DELOS. The overall plot of course stayed the same, but many more different places were explored as the world expanded (e.g. Skelcrion aka the Skeleton Trees) and the many dangers increased for the characters.

Some of the things I complained about before were different this time around. The writing definitely improved a lot and I found that Kaden and Cynthia actually acted more mature than how they were previously. I still find Alex really annoying though. I actually liked all the characters in the beginning but as I read on, I just... stopped caring about them? I don't know😭 The things that happened and what each of them experienced wasn't enough for me to actually care, although I did find some moments sad. Still, the bond between Kaden and Cynthia is as strong and beautiful as ever <3

Also even with these improvements, I still find one of the biggest issues with this book is that a lot of it felt dragged out. The size of the book definitely decreased but it still felt really long and I got bored a lot of times. But also this might just be me since I have that problem with a lot of books.

Overall, I'd say DELOS: The White Tree is a pretty decent book. There's no doubt the world-building is thoroughly explained and there's many layers to it, but personally, I just needed to find more to be engaged with.

________

Original Review (Old version of book):

DELOS: The White Tree follows twins Cynthia and Kaden who have had a pretty normal life... until the night before their 16th birthday when a call for help comes from a mysterious oak tree. This strange pull and need to aid brings the two siblings into going through a doorway that leads to an unknown world.

Arriving in a place called the Lurker Woods, Kaden and Cynthia get pulled into conflict between two clans of the same race. With friendships formed, truths revealed, and danger everywhere around them, will they be able to survive this strange world all while completing their mission?

I truly loved the bond Cynthia and Kaden had. Both would be there for the other and ready to take on anyone who tried hurting them. Alec was the additional person added to the group and he was pretty cool. His humor would always lift up the spirits of the others, especially during dark times.

The world is very unique and I can definitely see how much work was put into building it. However, a problem I had with this book was the pacing in the beginning and how some parts would drag out for me, so I struggled a bit getting past all that. The info-dumping was a little too much with long paragraphs of explanation. I think that maybe if it was more spread out, it would've been easier to get through, but I definitely enjoyed learning about the world.

Once I got past the first half though, things got really interesting and I enjoyed the journey Cynthia, Kaden, and Alec went through.

There was also the dialogue... at times it felt a bit awkward, but that could just be me. I think that maybe I was bit too old for the target audience hence why I felt like some things weren't fleshed out and the two main characters felt a little too juvenile -- but again, that could just be me.

Overall I did enjoy this and the ending was quite surprising. I definitely didn't expect that epilogue happening. If you're looking for a story full of adventure, friendship, betrayals (we all do love some betrayals ), and a distinctive world, then you have your book right here😌

Many thanks to the author for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I was provided an e-copy of the book in exchange of an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

✅ World-building
✅ Characters and bonds
✅ Plot
✅ Betrayals
✅🆗 Pace
🆗 Dialogues
🆗 Little bit of an info-dump

This story follows Cynthia and Kaden, twins with an average normal life until they hear a call for help coming from a tree on the night just before their 16th birthday. Unable to resist the mysterious call and the magnetic pull of the tree, Cynthia and Kaden pass through a doorway that brings them into an unknown world, where they are thrown into a conflict between two clans.

The world-building is very well done, and complete. It is intriguing and complex enough to keep us interested in the story. The characters are also interesting, and I especially liked the bond between Cynthia and Kaden. I used to wish that I had a twin brother when I was younger and they reminded me exactly why. They are so cute and adorable together, it warmed my heart to read about them. Their duo becomes a trio when Alec joins their group, and I liked him too. He added a nice touch of humor and was always there to make the others smile, and lift their spirits when they needed it.

What I struggled with more in this book is the pace, and sometimes the dialogues that felt awkward and a little immature maybe? Sometimes it felt as if the main characters were younger than 16 years old. Now, back to the pace… This is a long book, and the beginning felt long. There was a little bit of an info dump, and even after the first few chapters, when the story started to pick up, there were still some parts that felt long and bored me a little. The plot is interesting though, once you manage to get into the story.

All in all, this is an enjoyable book, but it is a little too long (I think some parts could have been condensed). Still, I would recommend it if you are not afraid of long books and if you’re looking for an adventure with nice word-building and characters, cute friendship and family bonds, and even some betrayals!

I received a free copy of this book from the author Blake Miller .Thank you so much for reaching out to me.I am looking forward to reading more books from you.
This book had everything you want in a mystery adventure book-
• Big revelation
• Mythical monsters
• A quest
• A guardian figure
• Amazing main characters
I enjoyed the book but I had some problems starting the book. The first few pages were turn off for me but the story went on smoothly.
The things I wish I could see in this book were-
• An eye-catching cover(I know that one shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but I can get bizarre sometimes)
• Lesser pages-Some pages felt a bit unreasonable to me
In a nutshell, if you love the mystery genre, you can read this book.It is very entertaining.

Well, this might be the longest book I've read. It took me a while to finish it and it was not because it was boring or any of that sort. It was due to the length. I had no problem engaging with the story and the world built within it. The siblings were adorable (I thought they were around 12 or so, would have liked it that way but that's just my preference) and I liked the addition of Alec to their team. The first part was a bit confusing for me and some dialogues were a bit awkward, however it was a good journey in totality. I think it just needs to be condensed more, it's a bit too long for my liking. Others might not have a problem with this though.

Typically not the target audience for high fantasy books but I must say this one was fairly good and I enjoyed reading it.

The book was longer than most and imo could probably have been trimmed down a couple of pages here and there but the pacing and the flow was manageable even for a fantasy newbie like myself.

I liked how the author prioritized inclusivity in his characterization. Would totally recommend to any one interested in YA/High fantasy.

The best I can describe this book is The Chronicles of Narnia mixed with an Angsty YA novel. The basic story was interesting but the characters were inconsistent and the writing was very repetitive and clunky at times. Also, the story could've used some editing and have been shortened by about 100 pages. Critiques aside I enjoyed most of the book and am interesting in reading the next book when it comes out.

Genre: Fantasy

The distance between Cynthia Summers and Kaden Krossway has no bearing on the unbreakable connection that binds their spirits. A strange call on their sixteenth birthday brings them together, weaving their destinies into the fabric of Delos, a hidden realm concealed from mortal eyes. This call brings them together despite having grown up under different skies. How can two people be twins, with one white and the other black?

Shadows and Lurkur Witches, who are known for their cunning, can be found hiding among the skeletal forests and whispering treetops. An enduring conflict between light and darkness has cast a long shadow, and the buzz of secrets within it fills the air. As Cynthia and Kaden are thrown into this remarkable reality, they realize that they have been protected for a specific reason and that their futures are intricately intertwined in this conflict they have not witnessed.

Another boy called Alec joins them, and their adventure becomes a search for survival, a frantic race to uncover the truths buried deep within, and a self-discovery. This high fantasy is a lot about these teenagers trying to figure out what is happening around them and also figuring out their true identities. The beginning of the novel picks up quite quickly, but several sequences feel like they go on for a very long time in the middle. Regardless, I believe that the author has done a very good job of handling both the backdrop and the development of the characters.

This is a high fantasy, so it does need both time and focus at all times, like any high fantasy novel. If you have the right mindset, then go for it because you might enjoy this unique concept. I’m very thankful to the author, who kindly gave me an ARC for this. However, since it was available on Kindle Unlimited, I went on and borrowed it so that the book would be counted among my Kindle achievements.

I’m a fan of magical fantasy worlds but the first impression of Delos - The White tree was that its cover doesn’t seen like that of a fantasy novel. As I read the book, I came to the conclusion that it doesn’t really match up to the standards. And while, don’t judge a book by its cover stands true, as amazing as this book’s story is, the cover could be more attractive to attract more readers.
Now, aesthetic rant aside, let’s talk about the book. It is an immersive tale of two impossible twins who find themselves in a magical forest. The writing is so compelling that I found myself believing the existence of these magical creatures. That’s the mark of a good fantasy book, making you feel as if you’re living in the made-up world. The plot is engaging enough to have me turning pages but what I liked most was the fact that at no point, the action and adventure overpowered the characters and their realistic side. They still had their vulnerabilities and complexities which was woven into the story so wonderfully that it took the reader on both a physical and an emotional journey together with Cynthia, Alec and Kaden.
But most important thing is that the book was entertaining. I didn’t get bored. I didn’t feel like stopping after a while. I read it cover to cover because it was THAT interesting.

(Thank you for that!)

Just so you know.. I don't write reviews like others.. Lotta people like to tell you bits and pieces of what the story was about...Telling you the same thing over and over in every review...etc.

I consider that you want my opinion on if i liked the story or not. Not what the story itself is about. So on that note.. Here we go..

A pretty decent book. :) It kept my interest and was well written.
Little things here and there to nitpick about but not really worth any real mention.

Worth the Read.. And like always when i like a book..I am left wanting for more.

Good world building, character development, and action scenes for this teen/young adult fantasy novel. I would almost classify the book as a beach read too as it isn't too demanding plus the chapters are short enough to fit bits of reading into a busy schedule. Contains elements of a heroes journey with a definite quest and theme of good versus evil. My interest was maintained enough to quickly move through the story even though it is 670 pages. Sometimes the references to contemporary things of our world was jarring in that I forgot that the book did not start in the fantasy world.

Hi! My name is Ash and I'm writing from my moms account.

I love this book! In this amazing tale, two twins that you would never imagine go on an adventure that seems like a dream come to life. I deeply suggest reading this amazing story. When you start the book you are placed in a universe promising to keep your attention. You'll never want to put it down. It has so many beautiful scenes and descriptions, by the time you're finished reading you'll be begging for a sequel!

Blake is an amazing writer, and this story is great evidence of that. Even the most minor scenes are full of detail and emotion. The world is so uniquely created and everything ties together perfectly. Each character, no matter how minor, is perfectly created and always entertaining.

And the way the story is written! Unlike any book I've seen yet, Blake is using third person omniscient. This is a major part of the story, because it helps you understand everything, and everyone. Yet he is still able to make large reveals shocking and attention-grabbing. The story never moves so slow that you lose interest, but never goes so fast that you can't tell what's happening. Everything is perfectly paced and perfectly balanced.

I highly recommend this to any young adults in need of a good book. It is full of magic, wonder, love, and loss. You won't be bored with this book even after it's finished. It has such an amazing story that all kinds of people will love!

The White Tree is an immersive and imaginative adventure that met and exceeded all my expectations. Full of edge-of-your-seat action, thought-provoking imagery, and character development that had me misty-eyed at each heart-wrenching moment they experience through out their journey.

My number one takeaway was that I was left wanting more - not because anything felt like it was missing - but because I’ve only just finished, and I’m already ready to start on the next adventure with the trio of heroes, Cynthia, Kaden, and Alec. Fans of this type of fantasy (a la Lord of the Rings, Golden Compass, Harry Potter, etc…) I would strongly encourage you not to overlook The White Tree… and any other installments that may follow. Special thanks to the author, Blake Miller, who provided me with a free e-book in exchange for my honest review.

I will start out by saying I have not read a fantasy novel for years and this book might have just brought me back to it! The world created by Blake Miller is full of twists and surprises that was engaging and enjoyable. The bond of friendship being a continuous theme through the book is refreshing and hopeful. I will say many of the made-up names tend to get confusing and some of the conversations feel awkward but since they are supposed to be younger this could be why! Overall its an easy read and great for it target audience, it took me back to books and worlds I thoroughly enjoyed in my younger years. I can see it being popular!

DELOS sets up the story for the sequels and you can clearly see it from the way it’s written. Cynthia and Kaden are launched rather quickly into their adventure, uncovering all types fun along the way. This is nothing short of your typical fantasy book: it requires effort to keep up with characters, back-stories, new ideas, and all things magical. Having said this, with determination, it's well-worth the effort.

Coming from someone who hasn't read a fantasy book since "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," this was a fun lil descent into a world I had forgotten about. Lurkur woods provides all the drama: witches, romance (Team Alec), fast-paced chases, and scornful enemies. It's no wonder the "twins" left their mundane, human life to be a part of something more remarkable.

Loved it! I'm a fan of fantasy book and this one did not disappoint, it was funny, emotional, entertaining and kept me on my toes! It hooks you up from the start and I love the diversity and gender equality the author put into it, female power at it's fullest which I believe should be put more into other books, characters are not perfect which makes them more human and therefore more relatable, this also makes you feel more and deeper emotions as the story develops.

I will definately be waiting for the next book, this has left me wanting more!

For someone that's not a fun of reading i actually got to love the book. The tittle itself caught my attention as i wanted to know what's really up with the white tree.
The creativity in this is crazy as every chapter brings forth suprises.I really thought i'd see Cynthia and Alec fall madly in love after their "adventure " to the extent of going back to the real world together only for it to be otherwise. As a reader,i love the fact that with this book you don't know what to expect. As for terms,i learnt a lot of terms that i'll be using in my day to day conversations.
Kudos to the writer 👏

Even though I think the book could lose 100 pages, in it’s core DELOS: The White Tree is a fast paced and imaginative story. There’s a lot of made-up terms (typical in high fantasy genre) that are a little confusing in the beginning, but eventually you understand them easily. This is the kind of book I would’ve loved to read with my friends in 5th grade. It would be a really good book-club pick. I would recommend it to fans of James Cameron’s Avatar.

As someone who never goes out of their way to read fantasy novels, this book may’ve just dramatically changed my preference in genres. I finished reading all 670 pages a few days ago, and I feel the need to share just how invigorating this entire experience was for me.

I want to start off by saying that I did not enjoy the first few pages. The introduction was less than exciting and failed to do the rest of the book justice. However, I managed to stick it out till the end of chapter one, at which point, my whole experience took a radical shift at a single line…”There was a dazzling, silvery white ripple in the air all around them as they stepped, side by side, over the door’s threshold and passed into some great unknown, not having any idea where they were going…or what dangers might lie beyond.”

I still can’t explain why this line resonated so strongly with me, but I think it’s because it holds such a strong aura of mystery surrounding what is to come. It left me curious enough to keep going, and by chapters three and four, I was hooked.

Throughout the book, the course of the plot remains the same. The three main protagonists have similar end goals, and work towards those end goals. However, this book has so much depth— whether it be the incredible world building, the diverse characters, or the strong relationships formed throughout, something interesting was always going on.

I think my absolute two favorite characters end up being Alec and the Battle Raven. Alec is introduced at the very beginning as this funny, care-free character. I find his sense of humor to be hilarious— it balances out the other characters. As for the Battle Raven, I really admire her strength and confidence, and I’m sure any future readers will as well.

I could go on and on about the great things this book offers, but I want to focus on a few main things. First of all, I love the plot twists. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are some really tragic deaths and several very unforeseen (and somewhat disappointing) changes. These plot twists will keep you on your feet. The second thing I really admire about this novel is how it feels as though the author is ten steps ahead. All the characters, ideas, and places introduced are always followed up on. At one point, I got really annoyed at the introduction of two seemingly unnecessary characters. Yet, it turned out that those characters do serve an important purpose. Finally, I really have to emphasize how great the world-building is within this novel. There are visuals, detailed descriptions, and so on. These descriptions and maps always add up to make perfect sense within the grand scheme of things. Everything is so incredibly detailed and clear, and I find the fact that the author was able to maintain that level of conformity within his work to be so impressive.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone. I think what seems to be swaying most people’s opinions concerning the novel is its length, but ultimately that great length just goes to show how much effort the author put into publishing such a terrific book!

What does a reader look for in a book? A storyline that pulls them in. Characters they can relate too. Backgrounds and locations that make them feel like they have left their realm and been transported somewhere else. They want a story that they can't put down. That will keep them up at night, eager to get from one page to the next. A story that you can't wait to start and are sad when it is over. A book that leaves you wanting more. With Delos The White Tree By: Blake Miller you get exactly that. A perfect story.

The book Is 43 chapters in length, plus an epilogue. That is a total of 2638 pages, and well worth it. It's a YA/Fantasy novel that is chock full of adventure. I recently had the pleasure of reading it and I'm blown away by the level of writing and storytelling that this author can produce. There are so many great qualities about this novel. Too start, I'd have to say that the characters are the first thing you notice.

I'm not going to spoil such a great book, but, I can tell you that you are in for a world of surprises. You are immediately introduced to the two main character and are then plunged into a fantasy world right along with them. It's written in such a way that you feel as of you are accompanying them on this journey. You meet a multitude of additional characters in this other realm. You will find yourself equally attached and invested in them as well. The villains are easy to hate.

Going beyond the characters, you find beautifully depicted backgrounds and landscapes. Emotional situations that suck you right into the page. Elements like magic, swordfights, epic bottles fought between mystical beings and terrifying creatures. This story has it all, even romance and heartbreak. I don't know if you really can classify it as action because there is just so much involved.

You don't just notice these tangible aspects of the story. The author has taken the story and offers is beautiful metaphors about life and death. We learn of balance and the coexistence between light and dark. Everything is just one endless cycle that needs the other to survive. I just can't get over what an amazing story this is. I saw several instances that could lead to future sequels down the line. I sincerely hope that the author has this planned because I sincerely would love to read more. Such an imaginative storyline. That is important because a great imagination is what makes this genre so great. This story certainly stands out amongst all the rest for that very reason. It truly is a great book and once you start reading you definitely won't be able to put it down. I certainly didn't want to. There are so many great elements to this book.

I would describe it as an action filled emotional roller coaster that rivals lord of the rings. There was not one boring part in the entire book. From start to finish you are invested in this story and connected to these characters. You want to follow along with them and share in all their experiences. A good book makes you forget about reality. That is exactly what Mr. Miller has done with The White Tree. I highly recommend it to everyone and am so glad that I was able to read this story.

As an enthusiast for YA fantasies, I must say I was very much impressed by this book.

The idea of twins that aren't alike visually is truly fascinating, but since I love trivias - FUN FACT: There are REAL twins like this! Haha! Anyways, I loved the humour in this book, it's definitely my kind of humour. This book had surely explored a ton of ideas, and it was a bit, I mean, really confusing sometimes, but I was able to understand later on. There were a lot of emotions going on, and it was to be expected from this book. So if you live YA fantasies, specifically, high fantasies ones, you would love this book!

But I have to say.....

This book was incredibly LONG! Normally, I'd read one novel in two days or less, but this took me weeks. It could use some editing in my opinion because there was a BUNCH of unnecessary details, especially in the first parts of the book which was hard for me to keep being engaged.

Overall...

This book was very entertaining, and I would highly recommend this to young adults aged around, I'd say about 10-17? I would not recommend this to people with very little attention span like only 15-second attention spans, haha! In any case, this book is going to be on my re-read shelf!

Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of the e-book version which anyone (yes, including you!) can get for free on Amazon in exchange for a completely honest review!

DELOS: The White Tree is hands down the best book I’ve read by a new author so far.
It’s actually pretty well written and I recommend it if like me, you need a palate cleanser from romance. Though it has some romance, it’s not the main relationship in the book. That, refreshingly, is a sibling relationship.
Cynthia and Kaden are twins but nobody believes them because Cynthia is a black girl, and Kaden a white boy. It never made them doubt the fact that they are actually twins though, and it’s nice to step into a book where the characters are confident from the start.
The Twins get transported into a new world, but one they’re obviously deeply connected to, and that really grabbed and held my attention from start to finish.
The world building is nicely done and side characters have depth to them, which I liked.
The writing is very descriptive, and action packed at the same time, so that did interfere with the pacing for me. It sometimes felt like a lot was happening but not much was progressing. The pacing does pick up though so it doesn’t drag.
All in all, a great first book and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Sometimes, in the same way that one twin receives more nutrients than the other in the womb, there’s the idea that one half of a sibling pair is simply more blessed. This explanation is no more fantastic than any other as the reason behind the unlikely but likable twins who are the main characters of The White Tree, Blake Miller’s new novel.

From its first pages, Kaden, a white boy, and Cynthia, a black girl, describe themselves as twins despite not only the racial disparity but the fact than an entire ocean separated their upbringing. Yet in fantasy novels all things are possible. This is demonstrated by the oak tree portal which like Lewis’s wardrobe transports them to an unfamiliar land, a place with a dying king and silver-haired warriors who closely resemble Cynthia and her own unique mane.

This is a quest story, a tradition thousands of years old but updated here with teens who at least resemble the real-life variety. How they go from their mundane positions at a restaurant to warriors is just one of the many storylines populating the novel. Miller’s world building is adept and lovers of high fantasy will be pulled into the complex but never overly complicated plot. It’s the perfect summer read, offering an immersive escape for anyone who has already finished their Tolkien and wants a new adventure.

A well orchestrated and entertaining book that transports you to a magical and super adventurous fictional story with great characters that spruce up your imagination.

Every chapter makes you want to read more. The suspense wouldn't allow you put the book aside.

The teenage trio of Cynthia,Alec and Kaden who are the main characters also turned out to be my favourite. I found myself taking side with all who helped or supported the trio.

This is a book I'd definitely love to see it on screen as a series or movie.

Some chapters are quite long but it's all well articulated to make the storyline even more captivating. Though there are alot of forishean words which you'll get to read and acquaint yourself with through out the entire story.

I highly recommend this book. And urge Blake to keep writing, I'll be delighted to read more from him.

It was a great read! Exciting, adventurous and also with relieving good humor at times.

One single holy tree, needs help from a trio of teenagers. They are extraordinary, and ready to do anything to save it. They have great souls to fight with them, and black souls to fight against- to save the White tree, to save the lurkur wood. I love the fantastic ideas of treetop villages, magnificent “Potnia”, simulac weapon, wonderful “Panthira”, and of course the “ Oaken Door”.
It was their one supernatural fight, but was not the last fight. They have sanctuary of lives to save, on earth, and some places beyond the Earth. Can’t wait to read their next adventure!

Although some of the chapters seemed very lengthy, some descriptions/elaborations I had found not necessary, and there were frequent use of some words- but yet, it was a very good read indeed!

This book is a fun read.

I have fun finding out more and more about the world that the author build. It feels alive and intricate. The trio of main characters are also a blast. I enjoy their interaction and seeing them grow.

Anyway, the book feels bloated at times. There's quite a lot of info dump and reexplaining what we already know. Well, the world itself is fun so I don't mind more info about the world. But, it can definitely be trimmed down.

I hope that the author will keep growing and the next book will be an even more entertaining read because I'm quite excited to find out what will happen next.
