Hello everyone! I’d like to thank Mr. Benson for providing me with an audiobook copy of Tolagon: The Queen Protocol, in exchange for an honest review.
Author: Gregory Benson
Narrator: Gabriel Michael
Length: 9 Hours, 46 minutes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jumping right where we left off in book one, Ghost Protocol starts with a bang and maintains this pacing throughout. All of the world building and set up in the first novel comes into fruition here, and allows the character development and action to take centre stage. Crix, Kerriah and Krath are as enjoyable to follow as they were in the first novel, and our host of side characters are memorable and enhance the narrative. Zearic remains an intimidating and interesting villain, who keeps our heroes on their toes, while also providing tense moments as a reader/listener. I often had no idea how Crix and his co would escape from their situations, and this kept me engaged and listening. The stakes are higher in this one, with sacrifices being made, allies being lost, and some extremely close calls.
Seeing more of Crix exploring the orb and it’s powers, was fun and once again reminded me of the Green Lanterns! We also get see the other power orbs come in to play, and find out what unique tricks and abilities they provide. The battles featuring the orb(s) were exhilarating and would look so cool in a movie or animated adaptation.
As with the first novel, Gabriel Michael provides unique characterizations for our heroes, and kept me engrossed in the events being played out.
If you’re a fan of sci fi or the cosmic side of the DC/Marvel universes, then Tolagon is right up your alley.
