If there was ever a book character that resonated with me and had me guessing - did this author use me as an inspiration for this character, it was Erinkan.

Beautiful lady, interesting personality, and whirlwind romance.

So as an INFP, I can totally relate to looking for a partner like going through a shopping list.

I think I came up with my first list in SS3, and it's been revised and updated and reviewed. Sadly, that list ain't going anywhere.

So, imagine how I felt when I picked up a book with a character who got it, a character who had a list and was not going to settle for less.

I was like Erinkan, you my homegirl.

And imagine how I felt when she met Karibi who was checking off boxes on her list like he had expo. Omo, fictional characters turned to my prayerpoint.

Father, like you did it for Erin, do it for me too.

Everything turned sour when Erin lost his number.

Like really, babe, your village people are hardworking.

Long story short, Erin turns to prince charming who looks for Cinderella, not with a shoe, but with the lousiest set of descriptions.

As an aside, I would have asked for his full name, birthday and horoscope sign.

While the search goes on, Erin meets Emeka who did not meet the cut off mark in the least but you know how the heart works. It decides to forget that madam has a list.

I will go no further and let you go and read this book by The Fertile Chick.

Moral Lesson from The One

We all want to find Da One. That bone of your bone and flesh of your flesh that ticks off every box on the list. Sometimes, he/she may not meet the cut off mark, but they'll excel at the course of loving you and making you the best version of yourself.

When you find love, be in it for the long haul. Don't jump ship at the first sight of inconvenience. You just might lose that love

And like every romance novel and movie teaches us, grand romantic gestures can always save the day😁😁

It was my 2nd read of the year and I'm so happy that I chose an amazing book and its easily a 5 star read🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I had an amazing experience i enjoyed this book so much the characters ❤️.I was trying my possible best not to scream at 1am when Erinkan finally came to her senses and broke things off with kabiri.
Emeka was a considerate man and I Love love Love considerate guys like that and he has easily entered mylist of book boyfriends .I was smiling all through out the book. But to be honest I feel like Erin shouldn't have done what she did to emeka,I was hurt on behalf on emeka, I love the way she was fighting hard not to fall for the guy but she was already deeply in love with him. And if any one is good at giving a twist in a story is has to be just .when I thought Kay chapter had ended he came back and he was giving possessive and controlling vibes 😣😣 this book really had me on chokehold. And I Hope kabiri gets the ending that he deserves. But Erin should be lucky that she is just a character if not I would have beating the living hell out of her when she called My Emeka a colleague. But overall it was an amazing experience. And I would totally recommend this easily to anyone 💜. And thank you @the_biblicalsinner for gifting me this amazing book 💜 . And though the ending was a bit rushed I hope I'll get more of Erin and Emeka in the Ginika bridesmaids series 💜.

The chokehold this book had on me! I can't believe I avoided the Ginikan Bridesmaids series by Adesuwa O'man Nwokedi for so long, especially knowing her books never disappoint. Buckle up, because you’re not ready for this review.

Ginikan is a confident, girl-boss woman frustrated that she’s still single in her mid-thirties, unable to find a man who ticks every box on her list. That list served as a good reminder to never settle for less. She finally meets her dream guy, Karibi, on an airplane, but just as quickly as he appears, he vanishes. Determined to find her "Cinderella man," she embarks on a mission to track him down using some very creative methods. Then there’s Emeka. He checks almost every box except being wealthy, which makes him the complete opposite of what Ginikan is looking for. He’s the guy she wrote off entirely, but as they say, the heart wants what it wants.

Emeka was thoughtful and considerate, always mindful of her feelings and needs. His small gestures spoke volumes. I admired his integrity—it never came across as stubbornness. He had his own money, wasn’t flashy, and didn’t try to impress people for no reason. Major respect for that.

Usually, characters like Ginikan would bother me, but she wasn’t snobby. The class difference between her and Emeka wasn’t a big deal. She was just being herself, and I couldn’t fault her for that. However, I hated how she treated Emeka. He was a great guy, and she took him for granted. I don’t blame Ginikan entirely, but it was so messed up that she didn’t want him around her circle of friends while also claiming to be an introvert who doesn’t even hang out with those people much. Like, really? You're going to care more about random opinions than the relationship that matters? Weird behavior.

Despite everything, the story was so focused on that forbidden love aspect that I didn’t even care about their differences. It made me believe in love. It also opened my eyes to the inter-tribal tensions between Yoruba and Igbo relationships, which played a key role in the story and made me want to learn more. I feel like the book focused so much on why they shouldn’t be together that it skimmed over why they should. What do they even have in common? The one thing that stood out was that Emeka changed her taste in music—that’s what they bonded over the most. But honestly, that didn’t matter to me because their chemistry was undeniable.

Ginikan truly made a mess when she left Emeka the second Karibi reappeared. As frustrating as her actions were, they were a little justified. She wasn’t doing more than many women in her age group do—just trying to make the right choice in love. I felt hurt on Emeka’s behalf, though. She fought so hard not to fall for him but was already deeply in love. Ginikan knew her heart wasn’t in it with Karibi and was forcing something that wasn’t there. Yes, she messed up, and she fumbled Emeka so bad.

And Karibi? So delusional. He needs to stop forcing things. He has his own book as the love interest and i'm intrigued to see how that's going to play out. Plus, what he did to Emeka was beyond snakey. But props to the author for seamlessly connecting every little detail in the story.

As with every romance novel, grand romantic gestures saved the day. I’ll admit, if this played out in real life, I doubt it would’ve ended so perfectly. But that picture-perfect ending? Totally worth it. I was smiling for days after finishing this book.

Sometimes, the person you least anticipate might not fit all your expectations, but they can be exceptional at loving you and helping you grow into your best self. When you discover love, hold on tight—don’t jump ship at the first hint of trouble, or you risk losing something truly special.

I loved their love story, but let’s be honest, Ginikan didn’t deserve Emeka. That said, she did have her redemption arc, so I’ll let her enjoy her happily ever after with The One!

This story highlights the themes of love, self-discovery, and starting over again. I loved Emeka and from the author's description, he is a hottie and a hopeless romantic, a finished man!🥹 Complete package - sweet, kind, romantic, thoughtful, name it!😍 At a point, I wanted him to change for once. I mean, how can a GUY be this perfect? Yo!😂 Erinkan, hmm! I just don't understand that lady. Should I say she's insecure? The way she makes it obvious to Emeka that they're not of the same status made me dislike her. Thank God Emeka is not hot-headed.

But wait! Kay - Karibi! Ewoooo!!🙆‍♀️😅 I have no words except, "Right person, wrong time."

I love this story. Ms. Adesuwa's writing is engaging and it makes me eager to know what is going to happen next. The characters were on point and I learned a few lessons. I love how the story ended. What an interesting story to usher us into the Ginika's Bridesmaids Series. I can't wait to read all the books in the series. I highly recommend this story to lovers of romance. Enjoy!❤️

A pleasant and intense surprise!

The novel explores the realities of who is "The One" versus who isn't.

It's having your dream coming true in two different ways.

How and what basis do you choose?

I didn't mention Erinkan (the heroine), because when I read a story, I read it inwards - in more ways than one.

That way I don't just read a story, I read a book - and maybe myself in the process.

"The One" is every woman's story that didn't get told; the "what-if" hidden the hearts of many women - until this novel. It's that real.

It won the highest votes for fiction to be read for the month in the book club I'm in, and we were all glued to it from the romantics to the least romantic in the group.

Riveting and interesting. Touching on career, family, status, social influence, sibling influence and how it's all played the part on who Erinkan decided was "The One".

I look forward to reading more from the Author.

Erin: Her behavior was very annoying, she constantly looked down on Emeka cause of his profession. This made me however like the book because it displayed the true mindset of the average Nigerian towards artistic (non superstars) and artisan professionals. She however came to her senses and it made it the perfect romance to me and not a weird fairytale.

Emeka: haaaaa my lover boy, the ultimate lover boy. A very likeable character that was true to himself till the end. I was so sad when Erin left him for Kabiri (I hated this guy from his own book and this worsened it). He went through the same subtle broke-shaming by a woman he loved, but he still gave love a chance, the ultimate lover boy.

Book: I loved it read it in 3 hours and couldn't stop till I got to the end, I hope Nigerian romance becomes more mainstream

Let me start by saying, Erin is the most annoying female lead I have ever read about, Emeka deserved better!! She was constantly looking down on this man, worried about what people will think as if she was not an adult!! At her age, I really don’t think I’d care what people think about my man. “Two different worlds” I’m sorry is this Disney?? God, She pissed me off so much!. Trying to create issues where they were no issues, acting like a child. And why the hell would you abandon your so called love of your life at night on the bridge because “you were scared”…. This Erin girl🤦🏾‍♀️. Anyway I would loved to know Emeka’s Mom’s reaction after they got back together.
Love the book tho. Adesuwa is definitely one of my favorite Authors now.

I now get the Adesuwa hype. This was a well written book, apart from some grammatical mistakes. I loved this book and I had a great experience reading it. Erin was very annoying and I wanted to smack her so many times. I hate how she treated Emeka, he was a great guy and she took him for granted. She made such a mess of the situation.

I would have loved if this was written in dual pov because I really wanted to know what Emeka was going through. The grand gestures were really cute and I found myself rooting for Erin again even though she didn’t deserve it.
Overall I enjoyed the book and I hope I get to see more of herself and Emeka in the Ginika’s bridesmaid

At some point, the book became too hard to read. I kept stopping and coming back to it. I understand the author tried to give us a happily-ever-after by making Emeka 700,000 euros richer, but in reality, that’s rarely the case.

I had an “Emeka” once, but I chose “Karibi” and married him. Do I regret it? In the beginning, yes, I did... but now, I hardly think about my “Emeka,” and he’s married to his “Chilee”—his type...

So, 3✨ because I’m team Karibi—not because he’s the best for her, but because he’s who I chose. But I’m glad in the end (book 2) Karibi found Isioma, and they lived happily ever after.

This whole series stole an entire week of my life but I absolutely loved it! Apart from the book being well written and the author paying explicit attention to even the most minute details connecting the whole story seamlessly, Erinkan’s story was my favourite! She was frustrating most of the time but she wasn’t doing more than most women in her age group are doing today in order to make sure we make the right decisions with regards to choosing a spouse. While I do believe that if this same scenario played out in real life it wouldn’t have ended as happily as the book did, that picture perfect ending was so worth it and it had me cheesing for days… Amazing read!

This book was such a sweet, sweet story. If there’s one thing Adesua excels at, it’s writing beautiful love stories. Although Erin frustrated me to no end—oh my gosh, I was livid—I’m glad she got a second chance. I loved how the book explored the theme of second chances while delving into the complexities of intertribal relationships and social strata.

This was such a feel-good read! If you’re in the mood for a captivating romance and a heartfelt love story, this book is definitely for you. I enjoyed every moment of it, from the first page to the last—I couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend it.

He laughed. “Erinkan, you are one bag of surprises.
You would give up everything to be a nomad with me?”
“Wherever you go, I go.
Wherever you live, I live.
Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God,”
I answered, quoting one of my favourite Bible passages.
He kissed me, and we both knew that nothing would be able to tear us apart ever again.

Wait, let me go and finish the book 1 Ara. My heart is doing boom boom boomer. I did not see book 1 coming 😐 😒 😕.......

I love love ❤️ 😍 💖......

An overall good book although I found myself frustrated with the main character Erinkan more than 80% of the time. A lot of her actions did not make sense to me. I still feel Erinkan did not deserve Emeka at all even at the end

I really enjoyed the familiarity I felt while reading the book because it was predominantly set in Lagos

I fell head over heels with this story!
It honestly captivated me and I couldn't put it down. At the beginning, I wanted her to find her "Airplane Guy". I was even dismissing Emeka. Until I read deeper and I just hoped any chances of her meeting Airplane Guy will be botched.

Fantastic, light read.

I was so pissed at Erinkan the whole time!! Make up your mind already!
I honestly almost wished she didn't end up with Emeka but she did anyway and okay I came to like her a bit at the end after she made amends( a bit though)
Regardless it was a good read
Can't wait to start Ara's story and with how much I loved her character in this book, I pray she doesn't also piss me off in her story 😅
