Working With Scrooge

Jeremiah Dawson is the owner and operator of Dawson Worldwide Shipping.

Jeremiah wants to celebrate the opening of his newest office in Dockside Florida. What better way to meet potential new clients but by having a Christmas party and invite business owners, local politicians, movers and shakers in the community. The community is important to the city and Jeremiah was determined to use that to his advantage.

Charlotte Paisley is the music teacher at Dockside Elementary School.

Each December she organizes the annual Christmas concert. An event she loved and looked forward to -- until this year. The School Board - after receiving a generous donation - has agreed her musical would be performed at a local businessman's Christmas party. This party was taking away the joy and meaning in Charlotte’s favorite holiday.

Jeremiah is determined to have the best party the city has ever seen. Charlotte wants nothing to do with the uppity businessman. She just wants a good performance for her students and life to go back to normal.

Can this Christmas be saved?

Jennifer Wedmore is a native of Florida, a wife, mom of three and now an author. Her journey in writing started with a bit of good-natured peer pressure. Growing up her goal was to be known as eccentric and she hopes that is evident in her stories. Why choose one genre when she can play in several?

WORKING WITH SCROOGE was originally published in the Holiday Chords anthology and is now available as a stand-alone short story.

It was never the ghosts who convinced Scrooge of the error of his ways. It was always Tiny Tim who melted his heart. For Jeremiah Dawson, he doesn’t meet any ghosts. Instead, he meets ten kindergarteners and 1st graders, some older students, a teacher’s aide, and Charlotte Paisley.

Such a sweet Christmas story with a Christmas Carol vibe. I was sorry to see it end, but happy to see Jeremiah’s change of heart.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

What could be simpler? A businessman needs to promote his new business and what better way than to set up a Christmas party, inviting the local elite and business professions. Move the local elementary Christmas music program to his party to ensure more of the elite come to his party. Promote, promote, promote. The music teacher, appalled with the business intent, pushes back. In the process the reader are treated to interaction between many parties and personalities. No ghosts in this tale but the Christmas spirit is found and shines. A tale for all ages, a gentle romance and more. :)

A really good short Christmas story that kept me turning pages. Jeremiah Dawson is all about his company and wanting to use the school's annual Christmas concert to do so. When he meets Charlotte Paisley Dockside Elementary's music teacher, she tells him off. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how he changes. A very enjoyable festive themed read. Intriguing characters pushed together to develop a Christmas pageant, each harbouring differing ideas on the Festive Season and their own agenda for the orchestrated event. Miscommunication is evident, yet can the spirit of the festive season save the day?
