Gabrielle Astley is quite used to being an afterthought, a burden, a nuisance. As the only child - and a useless female one at that - to a Baron, she was both spoiled materially and neglected emotionally. After her father's death, his third wife and her stepmother is remarried, to the stern and cold Marquess of Dunbury. Since the new Baron wants nothing to do with Gabrielle, the Marquess is her new guardian and Gabrielle finds herself in London, receiving her debut. Despite this turn of events, she can't quite shake her spite of her stepmother, and her attitude lands her into hot water and her first spanking at the hand of her guardian.
The Marquess seems eager to marry her off, and Gabrielle has no objection to that goal. London has everything she ever wanted - glamor, excitement, and, for some reason, quite a few people actually seem to like and take an interest in her. When the Marquess' best friend, the rakish Felix Hood becomes one of those people, Gabrielle finds herself hoping for more than just a standard ton marriage... until she begins to realize that he's not interested in her for herself, and his interest may actually be in someone close to her.
Felix Hood had no thoughts of settling down in marriage - as the youngest of three brothers, he should be the last to wed. However, when he meets his best friend Philip's new ward and is tasked with the duty of helping guard her against any unsavory suitors (as well as guarding Philip's new wife from Miss Astley's waspish tongue), he can't help but be entranced by her. She's not the usual milk and water miss that is served up to the gentlemen of the tongue; she's prickly, funny, and has a touch of sadness in her eyes that he longs to discover the cause of so that he may vanquish it. But he's not convinced he's ready for marriage, and his hesitation over formally courting her leads Miss Astley to turn to her other suitors, making him wonder if she's really worth the chase.
This novella was written at the request of readers who wanted to know what was happening between Felix and Gabrielle during Book 1 of the Bridal Discipline series, however it is not necessary to read Philip's Rules in order to enjoy this novella, nor is it necessary to read this novella in order to enjoy the upcoming Gabrielle's Discipline. It's just a bonus novella for enjoyment and to fulfill reader's curiosity.
Undisciplined is approximately 30k words and contains hot alpha males and domestic discipline.
Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
This was a nice addition to the series. As a prequel, it was great to get more insight into Gabrielle's character since she was not entirely likeable in Phillip and Cordelia's book. But most of the scenes we already seen in book 1 so it was also not really necessary. But a lovely and quick read anyway!
This quick peek into Gabrielle’s inner thoughts as well as Felix’ fascination with her, gave me the background i wanted for Gabrielle’s story. Behind those thick walls hides a sweet girl in desperate need of someone to love her. And Felix is just the man to give her exactly that! Now i’m going to find out what happens after their marriage, straight away!
Undisciplined in my mind is very much a bridging book between Philip's Rules and Gabrielle's Discipline or a prequella to the latter story. This contains scenes from Philip's Rules, but from Gabrielle and Felix's point of views, rather than Cordelia and Philip's.
I loved the truths it revealed about this couple and their struggles. It cleverly alters your perspective of Gabrielle, who previously appeared quite cruel and selfish at times. By the end of this I'd gone from disliking the girl to being her biggest supporter. It's a really engaging and well written novella that provides the perfect set up for Gabrielle and Felix's story in book #2 of the Bridal Discipline series.
DNF when I got to the part where the nineteen year old female lead's step-mother's new husband spanked her twenty-five times because she overspent and her step-mother just stood there and watched and then tried to defend such gross behavior and pretend like she cared about the female lead while taking no responsibility for putting her step-daughter in this situation by marrying such a despicable man and then abdicating her responsibility to keep her step-daughter safe from him.
And that was after some strange male the new husband had set to watch over the female lead, and knew nothing about the dynamics at play, had threatened the same to her after he kept going on and on about about how wonderful her step-mother was when he only just met the woman briefly and the female lead dared to speak truths about the situation.
But I think the worse part was the idea that spanking someone was not hitting or beating them. Ummm... yes, spanking someone is hitting them and hitting them twenty-five times is certainly beating them.
I normally enjoy this author but this was just disgusting. Wish I could give it zero stars.
Undisciplined explains the enigma that is Gabrielle. Behind the bad behavior lies a world of anger and hurt. She craves the love of a good man, but fears being rejected. Felix is all her hopes and dreams rolled into one. Will their insecurities ruin a chance for love? From chaotic to hypnotic Undisciplined is an enamoring tale.
2.5 Stars After reading the first book, I wasn't too excited about this one. The heroine is a brat (and not the good kind) throughout, and doesn't redeem herself in my eyes. She has moments, where I think maybe she'll turn out okay, but we don't really see it on page. And while the H and h end up together, there isn't a connection between them. She literally hates him the whole book, then they are forced together, with no romance or chemistry. Then the book ends. The story needs to be longer and more developed for me to have really enjoyed it.
I liked this short novella. It was fast-paced and gripping. Fun to see the events that we read from, in the first book in this series, play out through the eyes of previous side characters. It makes me excited to continue this book series.
Plus .. what's not to like about some erotica romance set in the Victorian era.
Wow this book really highlights the fact that we all view people with our own perspective clouding our judgement.
When I saw that Gabrielle's book was next I was nervous my hatred for her behaviour in book 1 would over take my enjoyment of her book. Now after reading this I can't wait to read her story. I realise that I was clouded by seeing her through Cornelia's eyes, but now I feel her pain and understand all her behaviour. A must read for all individuals but esspecially for those who like me were clouded by others views
This is a Novella with the main characters being from Philip’s Rules and taking place during the events of Philip’s Rules, and the story is told from Gabrielle’s and Felix’s point of view. After Gabrielle and Felix meet each other, they both think that the other is very attractive. Gabrielle was misbehaving in company and in order to get her to behave Felix threatens to spank her. However Gabrielle becomes somewhat afraid and she thinks of how her father hit her in the face. Later Felix visits the Dunbury House and tries to make conversation with Gabrielle, but Gabrielle thinks he is mocking her, when in fact he was not. A couple of days later Gabrielle observes Philip and Cordelia having some rather hot sex and is very turned on and then later when she is masturbating by herself she visualizes Felix and he is the one that is having sex with her. We get to read more of their story in Gabrielle’s Dicipline.
Conclusions: I enjoyed reading this story because I enjoyed finding out what Gabrielle and Felix were thinking.

This book is not like your usual renaissance book. It is very well developed and well written. This book was very exciting. Enjoy a great read!
Undisciplined: Bridal Discipline Book 1.5 was exciting. I generally don't read historical novels, but after reading the summary on this novella I thought I'll give it a try.
This novella was very well written by Golden Angel. I loved the chase. I loved the ruly, rebellious womanly tantrums. The firm hand that was being put down by the strong alpha men. And, even the occasional bare bottom spanking.(Enforcement of discipline) I'm fully charged to get to the next book to see how this story continues.
I just believe it will be a memorable ending, with the HEA I always look for.
Of course, we don't want to forget the narrator Rebecca McKernan. She had done an extraordinary job with all the characters. I definitely recommend this novella to others. It's a strong 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Felix and Gabrielle! I read 'Undisciplined' and 'Gabrielle's Discipline' one after the other and they follow each other well. It was interesting to see how the very indulged and spoilt Gabrielle slowly realised that it was her attitude and disrespect for her elders which was causing her trouble and that this is what she needed to change in order to be happy. (I need to say something here and this is my personal opinion - I still don't approve of the discipline used in this series, however, I do enjoy the style of writing and the stories being told. If this makes me a hypocrite, so be it.) I loved the attraction between Felix and Gabrielle and it was just wonderful watching them fall in love with each other.
Book 2, this novella is parallel in time with the first book of the series, but from the viewpoints of Gabrielle and Felix. While it could be read alone and comes to a conclusion of sorts, their story really continues in the next book, so I recommend at least planning on reading book 3 after this one.
I typically love this author's characters and this book is no exception. Even already knowing what was going to happy, I highly enjoyed getting this take on events from Gabrielle and Felix. Funny, romantic and touching, this was a great setup for book 3--I'm so glad it's out already so I don't have to wait! 5 stars
Undisciplined? Yes, but once you find out more about Gabrielle's upbringing, you can understand that she only wants attention. And if she cannot get positive attention, she provokes and takes the negative kind and feeds her conviction that nobody wants her, loves her. Mired in her belief she completely misreads her stepmothers and her new husbands efforts to bring her out into society. On top of that, there is a gentleman that seems interested in her. But he couldn't be, could he? Unfamiliar with the feelings he provokes in her, she almost commits societal suicide with her erratic behavior. This is a tasty teaser of things to come in the next book!
This book should be read before Gabrielle's Discipline. It gives some back history of Gabrielle and Felix and their relationship. After I read Philip's Rules I didn't like Gabrielle. Undisciplined gave me reason to like her and want to root for her. I like reading the different POV's during the book. It is really important in this book. This book tells Philip's Rule through the eyes of Felix and Gabrielle.
I read Gabrielle's Discipline a while back but I must say I liked this deeper look into her and Felix's start. This brings it home even more that she just wants someone to see her and care about her as a person. She's more than the dreaded girl only child or a dowry bearer. She's a young woman who wants to be loved. Never having had the tender affections of her parents, she pushes people away rather than let them close. Easier to not be hurt that way. Felix sees beneath her snarky veneer and likes her but steps up after disaster strikes. A rocky start to their HEA...but what a run ride it will be.
Easy novella written in the third person telling the story in "Philip's Rules" from Felix and Gabrielle's point of view.
This book is written much better than the rough work in "Philip's Rules" and is made significantly more pleasurable with the narration by Rebecca McKernan.
Goodreads has tags, Erotica and BDSM. Don't expect that; it's not in this novella. If you've read "Philip's Rules" you've already had plenty of pages of explicit sex. You can skip this novella and move on to the next book in the series, "Gabrielle's Discipline." This is where the story really continues. There's nothing in this novella that adds more than marginal value to the series.
I'd just gotten off my high from reading the first book of this series and went ahead and purchased this next book. But this was disappointing. Instead of feeling as if I've read another book; I feel as if I've read the first one all over again. This takes us through the story through the eyes of Felix and Gabrielle. Even though we get a bit of insight into both these characters, unfortunately much of the dialogue is repeated and it ended at the very same place as book one. Disappointed is all I can say.
Golden Angel always writes with steam, discipline and a lot of spunk. Undisciplined is a great incite to Gabrielle. Gabrielle is a spoiled brat. When things change, and her mother wants to marry her off, the story steams up. A lot of fun spunk from Gabrielle, and strong alpha male discipline creates an interesting story that is hard to put down.
Rebecca McKernan narrated this story well. She has an easy to listen to voice. Rebecca kept the character's voices separate and distinct. I liked the speed at which Rebecca read at. I enjoyed the narration of this story.
A good novella following the min character, Gabrielle Astley, through her debutante period. Her struggles with getting to grips with the death of her father. The re-marriage of her stepmother and having to submit to the rules and regulations of her new guardian, Phillip, the Marquess of Dunbury.
I found the book interesting and just right in its length (I get bored easily). About to read the follow-up to this book, Gabrielle's Discipline. Hopefully it will tell if she ever did get married and how she navigates her life thereafter.
This is pretty much the first book in the series, retold from Gabrielle and Felix's perspectives. But it's half the length because there aren't any horizontal negotiations (well, there is one but it doesn't go in detail).
It is nice. I do not think you need to read it to read the 2nd book in the series (which is about Gabrielle and Felix), but it's a nice novella that reveals more about Gabby and her internal turmoil and reasoning.
That being said, I did find it to be way too copy-paste from the first book to properly enjoy it.
Book two in series. Told in dual POV . Not really a stand-alone but covers the events of book one with secondary characters POV setting up book three with these characters. I enjoyed it because I also enjoyed book one and this gives us the motivation and thoughts of Gabrielle and Felix. I didn't like Gabrielle in book one and I did not see why Felix would be interested in her, but after reading I am looking forward to the next book that picks up where this ends.
This novella is just a small taste of the romance that is brewing between Gabriella and Felix during the events that take place concurrently with book one of the Bridal Discipline series. It features a strong willed, but emotionally vulnerable heroine and the strong man that has feelings he never expected for her but is resistant to the idea of marriage. With drama, deeply simmering passion, tense emotions, and domestic discipline. A very entertaining short.
This short story is a continuation and the POV of Gabrielle and Felix of the events concerning them in Philip’s Rules, book 1. I was completely engaged in Angel’s writing. The depth of her characters is spot on. I love the dynamics between Gabrielle and Felix. The set up of these two characters in this book just compels me to read the next book in this series! I loved the details! Now I can’t wait to read the next book!
This story gives is extra insight into what was going through Felix & Gabrielle's minds before and right after Philip & Cordelia's marriage. Felix & Gabrielle are both so stubborn that their book will no doubt be intense, aggravating but captivating as well. Felix, Philip & Cordelia seem to be the only ones that are Gabrielle for who she truly is and not just who she portrays herself to be.
This book was full of emotions and was very interesting. I can't wait to read or hear Gabrielle's story with Felix. Since this was somewhat like a prequel to a full story about Gabrielle's Discipline I can forgive how it made me felt about the ending of the story. It honestly made me want to not stop listening until I finish Gabrielle's story to write a review.
The narration by Rebecca McKernan was also superb.
