After surviving Brian’s attack, Megan struggles with the change happening inside her. Wanting to maintain as normal life as possible, she strives to hide her secret from everyone while also dealing with her growing desire for David, prom, graduation, and concealing her engagement. But one person sees through it all and knows something’s not right. Will their insistence on saving Megan end up costing both of them their lives?
Linette Kasper an avid writer of young adult supernatural fantasy, though she likes to dabble in horror. She is currently working on the sequels to her debut novel, Daimon. She enjoys traveling (though she doesn't get to do it often or very far), long walks in old cemeteries, and trying to stop time frame by frame.
I was sad to see this series come to a close. I feel like the author did a great job making us care about the characters that when you finally get to the end of the story you kind of wish it didn't have to end. I thought the premise of this story was super fascinating. Seeing the FMC dealing with the fall out of what happened in the previous book. What I like about this author and I've said this in the other book reviews is the attention to detail and the lore building of these supernatural characters is some of the most creative writing I've had the pleasure of reading. The only reason I give this book a four star is that i felt like this book went on just a little bit too long and that in turn threw the pacing off. Wit that said, It is a fantastic series and I look forward to the next set of stories the author comes up with!
I loved the other two books in this series and adored the characters. Megan and David were among my favorite bookish couples. But this was nothing like the other two books. I kept holding out for something to happen, staying loyal only because of how much I adored the other two books, but Phoenix doesn’t hold a candle to the other books in the Daimon series.
Nothing happens! That was the most frustrating part. Everything is laid out and follows the expected projection over 650 pages!!! There were no unexpected twists and it only got good 30 pages before the end. By the time I’d slogged through that much, I cried for how short a time I was granted the nail-biting adrenaline rush I loved so much from the previous books.
Add to that, that Megan could do no wrong, and I’m utterly disappointed. Where Kasper broke away from the Twilight tropes in the first two books and actually had something really intriguing with her vampire society and culture, the fact Megan is so perfect detracts from it all in the end. Since Megan doesn’t make a single mistake, she’s held up as an impossible standard and ceases to be believable or relatable.
Lastly, there were way too many racy kissing scenes. Now, I love a good kissy scene that gets you all the feels. Add a bit of steam, okay by me. But have this is every single chapter? It cheapens the effect. By the time we got to the wedding night scene, I was so over it all. It did absolutely nothing for me. The number of racy scenes in this book makes it seem gratuitous.
