Everyone's definition of success is unique to their own experiences. This makes it difficult to define. When it comes to being a firefighter, we understand that success comes in many forms as well; putting fires out, helping those trapped in vehicles, helping someone up off of the floor, and occasionally pulling a cat from a tree.
With such a wide array of what success looks like when it comes to firefighting, it can be intimidating to think about. Captain Jim Moss makes things simpler in his book FIREFIGHTER SUCCESS: 20 C'S TO FIREFIGHTER EXCELLENCE. In it, he breaks down easy identifiers for what success looks like as a firefighter. Not only that, he provides perspective as well as action steps we can take toward becoming successful in each C he mentions!
Jim has been a steady contributor to the fire service in the books he's co-authored and his stand-alone book FIREFIGHTER SUCCESS proves that he's here to stay! This book will quickly become a standard when it comes to helping firefighters (new and old) become successful in their roles!
Jim Moss does a fantastic job of bringing a lot of important information about being a successful firefighter to the forefront of our minds. This book is a simple read but talks about a lot of important topics. The only downside I see about this book is it left me wanting more as it felt more like a conversation than one way communication of reading a book.
Great book and very good lessons for the fire department, the reason I gave it 4 stars is because at some chapters it always said “strength, courage, perseverance etc. where all unique to someone” but then in other chapters it talked about these things (strength, courage and perseverance) and wrote it like there was only one way you should think about it, or one way to go about it, nothing completely wrong with it but just a bit twisting sometimes. Other then that great read especially when it applies to you as a rookie or any level of the fire service.
