This book was a joy to read.
I will admit to being a lifelong dolphin fan, so I am biased, but it is so rare to see fiction stories about dolphins and whales, let alone as heroes of their story. These beautiful creatures come alive in Stranded.
While it is a fantasy, it weaves in the story chock-full of information so children reading this will be learning while they cheer on the dolphins and whales. The appendix with descriptions and photos of the animals featured in the story is a great touch!

It's an interesting story. Dolphins and whales are escaping their place to save themselves from a deadly virus. The journey is thrilling and you start feeling for them.

Apart from the story, what I loved most was the information provided at the end of the book about marine life, types of dolphins, and whales. Would love to see more illustrations in the next one.

Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles Volume 1 by Feather Chelle is a great little read. This beautiful tale is also educating us about ocean life, whales and in particular my love Dolphins. It is fiction but based with facts and made it all the more interesting. The information at the back of the book is a great bonus. The story is aimed at Tweens which I think is just the right age for them to respect the message of the story.

Lovely marine fantasy adventure and plenty of information about marine life

The book starts with Cherish, whose 'pod' is having an emergency in the form of another dolphin - Lady, who is about to give birth and Lady is also very sick! As the other members of the pod are trying to handle Lady, they come to know that some sharks are attacking their pod. After calling for help, the dolphins - the cows and the bulls are all driven to shallow waters which makes it very bad for them.

Through the birds, the message for help finally reached the Isle of Cetacea and there come the heroes of the story. Each one of them has special powers and how they save the dolphins form the story. At the end of the story there is a glossary explaining the words used there and the the goes on to explain about many beautiful marine animals like Spinner Dolphins, Killer Shark, the coral reef and so much more.

I am very sure, the information in the book added on top of the fantasy element is a must read for children and adults, just to know the beauty of the ocean and how our oceans needs to be protected.

Excellent read and thoroughly enjoyable.

Family, fraternity, fantasy, and facts

I picked up this book from KU, to see if it would be appropriate for my grandchildren. I was surprised to find that it incorporates a never-never land type of forever youth, a magical island with an enchanted castle, heroic kids, an abundance of real science teaching ala Octonauts, and adventure on the high seas which for some reason reminded me a bit of Moana. The back half of the book is a glossary of marine biology terms and facts about exotic species, which I know my 9 yr old and 10 yr old will devour. The front half is a magical high stakes adventure tale which draws children into the family life of a pod of pilot whales, and the diverse world of under water eco systems. I was pleased, and will be buying a physical copy for my grandchildren to enjoy.

Stranded whisks readers away to a fantastical underwater realm that is rich in adventure and environmental awareness. The story is centered around a group of immortal Dolphin Riders and their aquatic steeds. The narrative deftly intertwines magic, youthful heroism, and a deep respect for marine ecosystems. As the Riders confront 'The Great Sickness of Old,' threatening sea life across the Atlantic, the book skillfully balances thrilling escapades with educational insights.

Feather Chelle's writing shines in its ability to weave complex environmental themes into an accessible and engaging narrative for middle-grade readers. The author's vivid descriptions of various underwater ecosystems, from kelp forests to coral reefs, serve as a backdrop for the adventure and educate and inspire curiosity about marine life. The characters, particularly the Dolphin Riders, are crafted with care, each bringing unique abilities and personalities to the story. The inclusion of a pod of Short-Finned Pilot Whales, especially Lady and her calf Miracle, adds emotional depth and reinforces the theme of interconnectedness in the natural world.

The book showcases a remarkable range of settings and various characters, reflecting a deep well of creativity and imagination. This expansive universe might require a bit of extra attention to fully appreciate the intricacies of the primary plot, but this also adds to the richness of the experience. While the dialogue is mainly engaging and skillfully written, there are moments where it provides necessary exposition to deepen understanding.

Stranded is as entertaining as it is enlightening. This children's marine adventure book is an engaging read because it mixes ecological education with fantasy in a way that is both enjoyable and thought-provoking. The book's blend of adventure, environmentalism, and fantasy will particularly appeal to young readers, especially those interested in marine biology and environmental conservation. It would also be a valuable resource for educators seeking to introduce these themes in an inviting and imaginative context.

This is such a wonderful and informative children's book. I read it within a day (698 pages on my kindle), but I think it would take my 9 year old about week to read. The author builds on characters and scenery so well throughout the entire book. I can envision the island and all it's sights around it. I can't wait to have my daughter read this so we can talk about it and learn more about the animals in the book. The last 50 pages (reading from my kindle app on my phone so this could be different depending on how you are reading this) are a glossary and an appendix that is filled with so much information on the animals, plants, and other ocean information talked about throughout the book. You get all your facts, but you also get a little magic and adventure in this book at the same time. Will Cherish and her family of whales survive the virus and all the dangers around them? Will the Dolphin Riders be able to help those with symptoms?! I would recommend this book to dolphin lovers (of any age!); children doing any marine studies/book reports on dolphins, sharks, whales, or the morbillivirus; and just children who love animals and the ocean. I can't wait until a second book comes out, so I can see how the adventure continues for the group of dolphins and their pals.

I picked this book up, as I have always had a strong interest in the oceans and sea life, animals in general, but mainly animals that live in the water. I was very much interested in reading this wonderful novel, for all the education it gave upon my reading, and the strong urge to know what would happen as well!

I enjoyed reading about animals of the ocean especially of the dolphins and wales. I found this book can really be an eye opener with wanting and needing to protect the sea life and for all that it is worth. I found the book was educating in more than one way. If I was a teacher, I would be showing the book to my class and the photos it contained as well. I believe this is a wonderful book that a lot of age groups or really anyone with interest at heart of sea life, would dive right into , and really enjoy reading!

The book was a very insightful and fun read. I was very much interested in what would come to the sea life animals, so I kept on reading easily. I very much enjoyed it by the end of the novel, and I think to a lot of people with children this would be an amazing book to recommend to have them read to their kids!

Cherish is a Pilot Whale and she lives with her family in the Atlantic Ocean, it is a large group made up young and old, males and females and mothers to be, they are close knit and keep each other safe from harm, that is until they find out that a mysterious disease has been seen infecting dolphins and whales in their vicinity and despite their best efforts to avoid it, some of them have become sick.

As they travel to find somewhere safe for the sick to recover, danger surrounds them and in their efforts to escape, they find themselves in danger of a different kind, they send an SOS message for help in any shape or form, but will anyone answer?

The Dolphin Riders are preparing for another day on their island home when they receive a distress signal from far away, so they speed to the rescue as quickly as they can, but will these saviours arrive in time? This is a beautifully written story for all ages and is full of interesting facts and anyone who reads it will be enchanted by both the characters and the information contained within it as you are brought along the current of the adventures within.

5 stars!

As an adult I really enjoyed this children’s book. The story of the whales in distress and the other sea animals signaling for help and working together was heartwarming. It was sweet that every whale had their own name. Then end is nice for both children and adults, it breaks down what each term means, and then give a brief description of that term. I didn’t know what a Fluke was, now I do and although it seems like something I may never use, it is nice knowledge to have, it is something I won’t forget. Then the book goes into describing the different sea animals and other sea terms such as the coral reef, mangroves, Whitetip shark etc. It is nice to see that some countries are trying to do their part in keeping things like mangroves alive and thriving. It is also sad to learn of the Virus that effects marine mammals, and honestly I had no idea it even existed. Overall would recommend for any family to read together, this book has a wealth of knowledge and is very easy and fun to read.

What an amazingly fun tale! My children are grown but I would have loved to be able to read this story to them when they were little. Stories that have facts and Magic are always a favorite of mine but I always prefer reading stories that combine a little realism with my fantasy. The amazing pods you will meet in this story will capture yours and your children’s interest. It had the standard good verses evil in the form of dolphins verses sharks (although I love sharks lol) and told the tale of helping your fellow kind whenever you can. I also think with the very unique situation our kids are facing with the covid pandemic that this book brings light at the end of that dark tunnel of disease. I absolutely recommend this book for anyone who reads to there children or even teachers who would like to read to their class. The facts at the end about all the ocean life discussed in this book would make it appropriate for a teacher looking to add a little marine biology to their science lesson!

This is such a cute story for young readers and their parents to enjoy reading together or separately. I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures included along with the descriptions of the marine animals and their environment. There is a lot of knowledgeable information included in the story. So not only is this a wonderfully written story, but it’s like a little encyclopedia of information as well. Even as an adult I thought that this was a learning story. I learned quite a bit of information about our ocean inhabitants that I was not aware of. It made me think about how important the ecosystem is to our world. I highly recommend purchasing this book for children. I think this would make a wonderful gift to any school classroom or library in addition to homes of our kids. Even more so if they are into mammals, oceans, and biology.

Stranded is the first book in the Cetacea Chronicles by Feather Chelle. This was a really sweet fantasy woven with lots of interesting and educational facts about dolphins and other marine life.
The story was well woven, with enough intriguing developments to keep you flipping the pages. I especially loved the interesting facts that were incorporated into the story. This would make a wonderful teaching aid for children’s marine studies in the classroom, or at home.
The photographs and information at the back of the book were particularly interesting. The only thing that I felt would improve this book, and take it to a whole new level, would be the addition of (more) illustrations to accompany the story. This would bring the story to ‘life’ more and help to fix the story (and facts) into the children’s mind.

Thank you, Feather Chelle!

Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles Volume 1 by Feather Chelle was wonderful. I read this to my kids (ages 3 and 6), and they loved it. It was educational and fun for them, and it led to more conversations about the ocean and animals that live there. As a parent reading to my kids, I enjoyed that the vocabulary words were in bold print, so that the kids and I could look them up together to learn more. I felt like this would be a quick read for adults, but since I read it out loud with/to my kids we took our time and looked up other facts as we went along. I enjoyed reading it, and I believe Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles would be a great book for adults and children. There was so much to learn here. My kids asked for me to read it to them again right after we finished. I hope to see many more books written by this author, my kids would love it!

Stranded by Feather Chelle is the first volume of the Cetacea Chronicles. It is a book that teaches while sharing an underwater adventure about the creatures within the story. It is an enjoyable book for young readers. The writing is descriptive to give the reader a good visual of what each creature looks like as well as the location they are at. Cherish and her Pilot Whale family suffer from both a mysterious illness and shark attack. When it seems like there is no escape the Dolphin Riders save the day? I could not stop reading once I started. After reading this story I wish magical island of Cetacea was real and that I could visit it!

Feather did a wonderful job of writing a fictional work that also teaches along the way. I would definitely recommend this book to young readers as well as parents and teachers.

This remarkable book combines fiction and nonfiction in an interesting style. As a former educator/author, I was pleased to see that Feather Chelle begins the book with a sketch of the anatomy of a dolphin which is followed by a more detailed classification. The reader's interest is peaked from the very first chapter. Not only is there a serious illness, The Great Sickness, beleaguering pods of whales and dolphins but one of their own, Lady, was also due to give birth. Their fear is handled appropriately. It's a fast paced book with some exciting moments but nothing too scary for younger children. The plot is clearly identified and there is a pleasing resolution at the end. Included in the book are a glossary and an appendix. The glossary defines and explains the terms used in the book. The appendix provides colorful photographs which add to understanding.

Set aside some time to enjoy this first book in Feather Chelle's "Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles Volume 1." Chelle takes readers on an adventure to explore the ocean to meet the inhabitants who call this world home. There is enough detail to keep young readers interested and to find it educational without being too burdensome with new information. Suited for middle grade students, teachers could also read this to younger students as part of whole group reading. Students who are more independent readers could also enjoy this book in younger years as well. The book pairs wonderful photos to the text which make it even more amazing. This book is a great addition to both a personal and classroom library!

This is the first book I have read from this author and she now has a new fan. This book is for kids but I really enjoyed it as well. My son and I took turns reading it. We fell in love with the characters in the first chapter and we could not stop reading it until the end. We loved the story so much we read it in only a couple of days. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

Cherish loves dolphins so much that her family takes care of them. She wants to be just like her parents. Cherish is scared when a virus starts to infect the ocean life she knows. She doesn’t know what to do and her family steps in to help. Will the virus spread into the whole ocean or will they be able to stop the virus before it spreads?

Stranded (Cetacea Chronicles Book 1) by Feather Chelle

Stranded( Cetacea Chronicles Book 1 ) by Feather Chelle is a wonderfully written Children’s book that once I started reading I couldn’t stop till I finished. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect going in as this is a new Author but she didn’t disappoint that’s for sure. Although this is a children’s book adults can enjoy reading as well. I truly enjoyed reading this educational book packed with incredible information on marine life. I might have even learned a thing or two. I’m a huge Dolphin fan and I highly recommend reading this book and I look forward to reading more from this Author. My neices and nephews are very excited about reading this book too.

In Stranded, Feather Chelle takes readers on an adventure with a whale family. Fear of a serious illness scares the whales away from other whale families, and into harm's way. The family calls upon the Dolphin Riders, a group of enchanted children and dolphins, to rescue them. Chelle does an excellent job describing detail in this story. She defines vocabulary for readers who may not be familiar with marine science. The whales, dolphins, dolphin riders, and their habitats are described in great detail, allowing the readers to envision the characters and their surroundings. Even though this story is written for children, I enjoyed it as an adult. I was disappointed with the ending, however. It seemed rushed and abrupt, and left me wanting more stories of this whale family.

Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles Book 1 was a great early reader book! As an adult, I really enjoyed the writing style of this book and the storyline and even learned a thing or two while I read!
I enjoyed that the author, Feather Chelle, included educational aspects within the book that would help children/early readers, and even adults too, learn about the dolphins and whales while reading an adorable, beginner fantasy story with lots of adventure and great description. It really had me cheering on the dolphins and whales as a read-along on their journey!
I highly recommend this book to marine-loving early readers, and I hope that Feather releases the second book soon as I look forward to reading it in the future and to someday share them with my child.

Stranded (Cetacea Chronicles Book 1) by Feather Chelle was a very intriguing read. I originally picked up this book because the cover is absolutely beautiful and I love all things to do with the ocean. It was great to see such beautiful creators depicted in a fantasy book that is also full of details, and lots of information to not only keep children interested but they also learn a lot of things while reading. I absolutely loved the details and descriptions of the whales and the dolphins, it really brought the creatures to life in my mind. The appendix with all of its information and the pictures were really a nice touch and my daughter loved looking at it with me.

A children’s story of a pod of whales. Some of the whales are suffering from sickness, and as they are traveling to a new feeding area, they are attacked by a mob of sharks. The sharks push them into the shallows, where one by one, the whales beach themselves. Word of the beached pod of whales reaches the secret Isle of Cetacea. Here live the immortal children that had each been lost and rescued at sea by a special dolphin. The children all had their very own special powers and had the task of caring for the creatures of the sea. This book is filled with factual information interspersed with the story. I highly recommend this book for children.

Stranded (Cetacea Chronicles Book 1) by Feather Chelle. This is the best little book about a little family of dolphins. It helps to teach kids about family values, how to work together and about love! The family of dolphins get stuck on an island so they have to work together and figure out how to get back home. They realize that they are all equally important in figuring out how to work together. This book is so sweet and so educational. You really learn a lot about the Ocean and Dolphins in this book as well. I really fell like adults along with kids can learn from this book. Its a really great read!

This is a book that will definitely appeal to the imagination of 5-12 year olds, but with real information about whales that they need to know. A little magic, an ocean wonderland for whales and dolphins, and the bond between humans and these intelligent creatures.

I love that the story is told from the whale’s point of view. They describe their fears, their joys, and dangers they face every day. Add a life-threatening virus and they began a journey to save their pod, but that journey also left them vulnerable to sharks. Their very survival depends on magical kids and their dolphins.

I recommend this book to 5-12 year olds, especially if they love animal fantasies.

An incredibly educational fictional book!

What I loved the most about this book is that it did so much to educate the readers about marine life but was presented in a fantastic fictional story. Then there is a thorough explanation of every animal and environment in the back of the book, so you can dive in to learn more. The most important thing we can do to save these marine environments is to get people educated and passionate about them, and this book does a great job of doing just that!

This is the first volume in the Cetacea Chronicles and is 198 pages in length. I loved the visual picture of the dolphin showing the different parts of it and also the classification of what a Dolphin actually is. Very informative! This was such a riveting tale and so full of information – my kids loved this story! We loved reading about the different animals and habitats. It was such an enlightening story that my kids are looking forward to more of these. I especially loved that although it is a fictional story it was also full of great information.

This book was adorable! I read it thinking it would just be fun, and was pleasantly surprised that I couldn’t put it down, ultimately reading it in one sitting. The characters were masterfully created and made me wish I could be like them. This book brought me back to reading the Animorphs series as a kid and I loved the nostalgia it induced while still being something new. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds! I also really enjoyed the fact that I was able to learn something new, because I live by the motto of, “you learn something new every day,” and this book made that easy for me.

While reading this book, my teacher brain was coming up with so many ideas on how to utilize this book in my classroom. I loved that the story was fictional, but that the author also included some many truthful and accurate learning opportunities with marine life. I loved the definitions and pictures that were listed at the end. I usually only leave reviews for the books that I read personally for myself, but when I came across this book I just had to read it! I will be recommending this book to my teacher friends, and hopefully soon will be reading it with my students.
