He hunts serial killers, she saves lives. When their worlds collide, he must use all his skills to save her from becoming a killer’s prey.
Clay ‘Condor’ East was ready for a change and heading up a new serial killer task force, Ryoshi Delta, was just the challenge he needed. Meeting and falling for nurse Hattie Pollard wasn’t on his agenda, but he knows the second he does that she’s the one for him. When his first case comes in, he realises all eyes are on him and his team as this latest killer is targeting first responders and his need to protect Hattie becomes even more important.
Hattie Pollard loves her job as an emergency department nurse. When a handsome FBI agent brings in a child and refuses to leave the injured boy alone, she finds herself falling for his caring nature and sexy looks. When her life takes a turn she didn’t expect, and her family call upon her for answers, she needs the one man who really sees her to have her back.
Hattie and Clay are thrown together but soon realise the connection they share is rare and precious. But when the killer Clay is hunting turns his attention to Hattie, Clay will do anything to keep the woman who has captured his heart safe—even if costs him the job he loves.
Phew! This had me enthralled from the first page to the last, it's full of tense excitement and action. Suspense and some edgy moments, there is also the worry and love, concern for a parent with declining health. One I can understand only to well, it's handelled with sensebility and sympathy. There is a twist to the plot which wasn't quite what I thought it would be but completely made sense. Fabulous characters that I fell in love with, it is a fast paced read with a lot going on but easy to follow. Loved the use of characters from another author as well as some from Maddie's other series books as well, great job and a story I loved. Started 3/2/21 finished 4/2/21
I’ve read this author’s other books with India Kells, who isn’t in on this series. The absence is glaringly obvious. From style, plot development, character development, pacing, authenticity, to dialogue…. This book is completely foreign to what I read in the Alliance Agency series.
Edgy? Sure, like useless sentence brain shrapnel. Suspenseful? Sure, like Scooby with a squeak toy. Romantic? Sure, if “I like you” on repeat gets you hot. Page Turner? Sure, after you spend an hour removing the molasses off each page.
Eeeeeeggggadsofguac… these are some horrid names:
Harriet Pollard Sammy Roach Clay (AKA Condor) Drake (Lyric) Dean Thomas ‘Hawk’ Reardon TJ and Milena, Quint and Corrie, Calder and Hope, Scott ‘Sandstorm’ Silverman Aiden ‘Omega’ Jackson
^ That’s just to name a few.
He’d even seen his friend’s photo hidden in his younger sister’s bedroom and thanked God that Callie had never met Reid. Callie lived with his dad and her mother and didn’t come out this way, but even when she was younger, she had loved Reid. Her six-year-old self following the teen who indulged her with sappy eyes. Yeah, he was glad Callie and Reid didn’t mix.
^^^ Huh? His sister, Callie, has a hidden pic of Reid, but she’s never met him… yet, she loved Reid as a six-year-old and followed Reid everywhere, but they don’t mix. Confused? I know I am. It was a bad sign of things to come.
We fast forward six months just a few pages later… and the sister and Reed are living together now. I’m not really sure WTF that matters, but now ya know~
Anyway….
So, the MMC is leading a new “serial killer task force.” Note “SERIAL KILLER.” The team’s first call is a dead nurse. No indication of a connection to any other dead peeps, no serial killer note… absolutely nothing to suggest this is anything but some random murder. So, why is his FBI team called to a random homicide?
The answer is purely author’ intent since the MMC just happened to meet the FMC, who is a nurse. I HATE when storylines so obviously use SAF plot devices to link the characters. It’s only AFTER the MMC’s team starts working the case that they make some possible serial killer connection. That’s not the way “special task forces” work, and FBI doesn’t just go off to investigate random murder scenes. Strike one in plot authenticity.
Moving on….
Not edited well. Too many random thoughts. Too hard to tell who the “he” and “she” pronouns are because the story is JAMED with side characters. Name-drops here, there, and everywhere from what I assume are previous books. Too much info in too short a span. Add that to too many extra words, and you have a reading nightmare.
“He offered to drive her home, and but she had her car, and Hattie almost laughed when he offered to follow her home to make sure she got there safely.”
“His friend, Henry, had actually been Reid’s friend first, but when he’d moved to San Antonio after falling in love, they had become friends too.”
^ I’m just not digging this writing style at all. IDGAF how the MMC knows some horse farm dude hosting his date. IDGAF that his sister’s boyfriend was friends with the horse dude first. IDGAF to be reminded that his friend no longer lives there because he is in love with the MMC’s sister and living elsewhere.
The MCs….
If I read “proper date” on more time, I may have a proper meltdown. If they say how much they “like” each other one more time, I may need to start shopping for a new Kindle.
I really couldn’t tell you about the MCs other than a job description and friend spreadsheet, and I’m at 19% in the book. That’s just piss poor character development. When we finally get a glimpse at something personal, I’m just over it…
“He smiled when he saw her pull up, the pink fluffy dice hanging from her rearview mirror..”
Yeah, that was my cue to leave this book in the rearview. DNF at 22%.
F’me. I need a margarita and a colon cleanse to push reset and move on to my next read.
Condor's Vow is an excellent start to a new series by Ms Wade with her trademark focus on family, loyalty, and devotion. It's these qualities that keep me coming back to her books time and time again.
Clay is new to Texas and heading up a serial killer task force. A chance meeting with a nurse has him thinking he'd like to get to know her more but life gets in the way. Little does he know that life and fate have a way of throwing together two people who are meant to be. I love Clay's combination of protectiveness and gentleness. He wants to go all alpha protective over Hattie but he recognises that she's a smart, competent woman who can hold her own in most situations. I love seeing him try to find the balance between being a dominant alpha male and letting his woman be the independent woman that she is. The thing about Clay too is he's not afraid of his feelings. He's upfront about how he feels and he's open about what he wants from a relationship. Love a man who's not afraid to show that he's falling in love with the woman of his dreams.
Hattie is great. At first, I thought of her as rather brusque and no nonsense in her role as an emergency room nurse, but underneath all that competence is a caring, loving daughter, a supportive sister, and a wonderful woman. It's no wonder Clay fell so hard and fast for her.
I loved the mention of the men from Susan Stoker's world from the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series with Dax and Mackie, and Cruz and Mickie. I need to read those books soon too so I know who I'm reading about. It was also wonderful to reconnect with Henry because I adored him from Finding English. And it was a delight to visit with Reid and Callie again with the Eidolon connection. I love how Ms Wade peppers her books with cameos from beloved characters from other books without the reader feeling lost reading about them since she gives us just enough information to feel comfortable getting to know them and maybe hooking the bait with us wanting to read their books in the future.
I'm looking forward to more stories from the men of Ryoshi Delta.
Clay ‘Condor’ East is starting as the SAC of a new team (Ryoshi Delta). At a get together with the rest of the team he is reacquainted with nurse Hattie Pollard. Hattie is struggling with her father’s health issues and Clay shows her what it can be like to have someone there to support you. But soon things start heating up as Hattie draws the attention of the serial killer that Clay is after. Will he be able to keep her safe?
This was a very good read and it was nice to to have the reappearance of some old favorites like Cruz, Squirrel and the guys from Station 7 and Dax. Would recommend you read this book, and I look forward to the series.
Months after initially meeting, Clay, the head of a serial killer task force, is reacquainted with Hattie, an E.R. nurse. A killer is focusing on first responders, and Clay worries Hattie will be a target.
I really enjoyed Clay and Hattie's story. Maybe an overuse of the word 'gorgeous', but otherwise I liked it! Their relationship was sweet, and he did everything he could to try to keep her safe. I also enjoy how Maddie's stories always reference characters from her other books.
This was a great suspenseful read, with some romance.
I really enjoyed this book. It is the first one in the new Ryoshi Delta Series. It also is part of Susan Stoker’s Police and Fire: Operation Alpha Fan-Fiction World. We get visits from Maddie Wade’s Eidolon Series as well. This book features Clay “Condor” East a SAC for the FBI and Team Leader of the new Ryoshi Delta Team, and Harriet “Hattie” Pollard, a spunky ER nurse. These two meet when he accompanies a small injured child to the ER. They both make an impression on each other but life gets in the way. They reconnect at a cookout and Clay starts to court Hattie properly. He then has to try to keep her safe as she becomes a target of a serial killer he’s hunting down. This book is action packed and had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who the killer was and if Hattie would make it. There is even a sweet protective dog and some really hot steamy scenes. I’m excited about this series and look forward to reading more.
An entertaining read right from the start it grabs hold and doesn'tlet go. I like that Clay gets his own team and also meets the love of his life. Hattie is perfect for him. She completes him in every way. She's caring and good at her job. Now Clay just needs to find and stop a serial killer that is targeting first responders before Hattie becomes his next victim. I thought I had figured the killer out, but nope I was wrong. This book was received as an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Condor’s Vow is the first book in a new series by Maddie Wade called Ryoshi Delta. Condor’s Vow is in the Fan Fiction World of Susan Stoker’s Police and Fire: Operation Alpha. This book ticked all the boxes for me. Found out who were the members of the group, five full-time members. A little bit about them but not too much. Romantic interest - Nurse Hattie Pollard for SAC Clay East. Good relationship dialogue, definitely swoonworthy, imo. Lots of false clues with a twist at the end, that I don’t see how anyone guessed, very Agatha Christie-ish. All in all, one very good read with at least 4 more books to come in the series. Enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Recommended.
I am in love with this new series by Maddie Wade. She has created a group of great characters, and I loved seeing the police and fire guys from Susan Stoker’s world. Reid from Eidolon also helps out to solve the case. Hattie is a strong, smart nurse. Maddie Wade wrote a sexy, suspenseful story that I could not put down. Clay is an alpha protector. His serial killer case that his new team is working gets close to home. Of course he saves his woman, and they get their happily ever after. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series!
A new series by Maddie Wade wrote connected to Susan Stokers world of books. A great read and it was fab to have one of the characters from Eidolan team appear in the story. This tells the story of Clay and FBI agent and how meeting the one can sometimes be fate. I love the banter between the members of Clays team and also the importance of family whether it’s the family you choose or the family your born with.
I loved this book! I am crazy about Madie Wade and Susan Stoker and getting a book where two worlds from these authors are joined was absolutely brilliant. Clay is the kind of man most women dream about. Thoughtful, sexy, loving and a protector. Hattie is a carer. She is strong, caring and intelligent. They meet while Clay accompanies a small boy to the ER where Hattie is a nurse. What follows is a story filled with romance and suspense. This is a story about friendship and love. A really enjoyable read with some of my favorite characters from other books.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I was hoping that Hattie and Clay would get together. The book had some surprising and unexpected twists. I look forward to reading more.
Enjoyed this book immensely. Hattie is a sweetheart with a caring and compassionate nature. Clay a man with a strict code. The twist and turns were great. Well worth the read.
Excellent Book I loved this book so glad it is part of a series Maddie you are a new author to me and I will start to read your other books I recommend this book to everyone Dorothy Schaefer
Hattie (Harriet) and Clay (Condor), this is the first book in a new series (Ryoshi delta series ) and I loved it. It is loving, suspenseful, humorous and full of friends and families. It is written is a fast paste and very vividly. Clay and Hattie meet when Clay is bringing a 6 year old boy to the emergency where Hattie is a nurse. It is love from the beginning but they don’t know that yet. I also love that old friends are visiting. I can hardly wait for the next book.
Condor’s Vow by Maddie Wade is part of the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha series and also an opening chapter to her Ryoshi Delta series. When she finished her Fortis Security series I was asking myself, what do we read now? I know we had still Eidalon Black Ops series left but if you love Maddie’s writing like I do, you know that it is never enough so when she announced that she is had started writing a new series and the first book was coming out in January 2021, I was delighted so I put the date down in my Google calendar and … Condor’s Vow, what can I say! It is pure Maddie! Down to our hero Clay “condor’ East who is heading up a new serial killer task force and our Hattie Pollard, a nurse with a heart and a woman that knows what she wants and so far she has not met that one who she could put up with and see future and babies with so enter Clay … obviously it cannot be as simple as that a boy meets a girl and happily ever after, we are talking about Maddie Wade story here so we get nail biting moments that leave us breathless … we meet other alpha males that will temp you deeper into the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha universe AND I absolutely love how Maddie brings in some of our beloved alphas from the Fortis Security and Eidalon Black Ops series AND I am sure you will recognise Clay if you have read Eidalon stories so be prepared for one heck of a ride! You will not be disappointed and I cannot wait for another instalment in Ryoshi Delta universe!
Clay and Hattie met at the hospital when he accompanied a young gunshot victim with no family there. It was an instant attraction and he had asked her out for coffee but they didn't get to see each other after that first night. Since then he was given command of the Ryoshi Delta team that is tasked with catching serial killers. He goes to a BBQ at his friends' house where he meets up with Hattie again. A second chance to get things right but first he and his team will have to stop a serial killer that has his sights set on killing medical personal and that includes Hattie.
Ms. Wade brings in some of Ms. Stoker's characters that will be familiar to you if you have read Ms. Stoker's stories. She also brings in characters from her Eidolon series. Admittedly I have not read that series but it didn't take away from the story itself.
I immediately liked Hattie as she is an ER nurse who works hard and takes care of her father. But she needs support because her brothers are refuse to admit or see how bad things have gotten until her dad had an accident. Clay is there to support her as no one else has before. With danger lurking in the background this story was not short of action. There were a few twists and turns that kept me riveted to the pages. I can't wait for the rest of the Roshi Delta team to get their stories.
The storyline was brilliant but the rest of it was a bit boring and in parts unbelievable. Hattie is a nurse who meets an F.B.I man when he comes in with a young injured boy. He looks at her and thinks wow, and after seeing her in the hospital a few times he didn’t stop thinking about her for months! Hmm. So why didn’t he ask her out then? He says he wanted to but everything went to ‘shit’ that’s never explained why. He’s running a new team set up to catch serial killers. This is where the writing goes downhill. They’re called out to a nurse who has been murdered, why? He’s running a serial killer team, why are they there? Then he has a “feeling” that the murderer has done it before. Oh ok.... The killer starts targeting her and after seeing her for a couple of weeks, she moves in with him as he’s madly in love with her and has been from their first date! Oooookay! He thinks an awful lot of romantic, gooey thoughts about her as well. The sex scenes felt really awkward as well. He touches her and tells her to come for him, so she does. On the plus side which kept me reading it, he sounds lovely and a genuinely nice man. She sounds really nice as well. The baddie is perfect and there’s enough of a scary side to him that it kept it interesting. Worth a read but I won’t be reading any of the the other series.
I always look forward to reading a new series and knew Maddie was going to bring to life a small character from the Eidolon series, Callie’s brother Clay. What I did not expect was him to have his own team and then be part of the Susan Stoker world. Now there’s a bonus 😊 Clay exhibits the now familiar alpha traits which we all love and crave and does not disappoint in his swoon worthiness and sex appeal and that is not lost on our girl, Hattie. Maddie approaches this story with all the skill we have come to expect, gathering her talent for creating a great mystery, loading it with action and weaving through a head over heels love story. She brings back a couple of much-loved characters from her own series to sit effortlessly within Susan’s world building. As a result, I’m going to read the rest of the books released as I look forward to seeing how these stories work together. I never tell the story in my reviews but lets just say it moves along at a fast but effective pace, and the plot is believable and relatable. Now…..what story to read next as I learn abut this new world of Alphas and their ladies?
First book in this new series but it's linked to many we meet clay in the series with his sister and his best friend Reid is in so this series runs at the same time this series starts not long after callie got together with Reid (so read Reid if you want their love story and first meet with clay) Also author susan stoker wrote a series operation alphas and with her permission and a chat about direction some of the characters in her book who are not her main characters gets series of there own with different authors getting to making lots of new series very complex and it mean characters talked about or small cameos could show up anyway. For me it made me feel like I have read this so can bug you but I do like some of the other authors more.Would be nice if there was a index.
This book was good but why did we not get a update on the damage if any to her liver? Also Martin is army couldn't be have over powered plus wouldn't he have put up a fight she was in car out of the way? That felt written wrong
I am a big fan of both Maddie Wade and Susan Stoker, so getting to read Condor's Vow, a book written for Susan's Police and Fire Operation Alpha series was like icing on the best cake ever!
This book is about the new Delta series, its new leader Clay' Condor" East and ER nurse Hattie Pollard. Clay meets the spunky nurse on his job, but she gets called away. They meet up again 6 months later as Clay and his team get their first job, a serial killer targeting first responders. They end up having a rare connection. But there's a serial killer out there, and Hattie just might be his next victim.
This was an exciting, Suspenseful read filled with lots of great scenes that would fog up your reading glasses. A definite page turner from start to finish. I definitely need to go back and buy her Eidolon series. This book had characters from lots of places, and was a fantabulous read!
Having "met" Clay East while reading Reid from Maddie Wade's Eidolon series I was excited when I found he had his own story, Condor's Vow. What made it even better, prior to reading the Eidolon series I had binge read Susan Stoker's Texas Heroes series. So when those familiar characters showed up in Condor's Vow, I was elated. Clay and Hattie are perfect for each other and just so darn likeable. They both know what they want, especially in each other, and grab it with both hands. With their high pressure jobs they know the time they have to spend together is precious. Finding a serial killer isn't easy and once Clay figures out Hattie may be at risk he'll stop at nothing to protect her.
There's some great suspense and intrigue in Condor's Vow along with the right mix of high drama and action. Oh and don't forget lots of sexy steaminess. I also enjoyed both Clay and Hattie's family dynamics and interactions. Great all around reading.
Condor’s Vow, the first in Maddie Wade’s Ryoshi Delta series is superb. Clay “Condor” East is on a mission in his new role as task force leader to hunt down a serial killer that is targeting first responders. Hattie Pollard finds herself in the sights of the serial killer as an ER nurse and as they grow closer Clay vows to keep her safe. I really enjoyed the plot of this book, it has a very unexpected twist and the characters are as usual extremely well written. The chemistry between Clay and Hattie really ignites and I love that they are a believable couple. We also see a few familiar faces from Maddie’s world and it’s nice to catch up with them. I highly recommend you read all of Maddie Wade’s books but this can be read as a standalone. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Draws from a deep well of characters and emotions<
Hattie, an ER nurse, keeps Clay, an FBI agent, from a trauma room when he comes in with a child after a hard call and doesn’t see him again until a backyard BBQ with mutual friends. As the story progresses a change of responsibility occurs, danger strikes close to home, and realizing being supported does not make you weak could be the thing to save them both. Maddie Wade’s first book in her Ryoshi Delta series draws from a deep well of characters and emotions, showcasing great supporting roles from her world and Susan Stoker’s Police and Fire: Operation Alpha world. I look forward to reading about the other team members and wouldn’t mind if Martin made another appearance at a later date.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Wahoo! I am so glad Clay finally got his book and in an amazing new series too...we met him in the Eidolon series (also by Maddie Wade), Reid's book and he made us swoon then, here he just sweeps you straight off your feet! Hattie and Clay are so perfect for each other, both rescuers, protectors and pretty amazing people. Hattie is friends with Mickie and Mack, say no more! We get so many of Susan Stoker's awesome characters popping in to assist the Ryoshi Delta Team that we are truly spoilt. Please, please, please tell me we are going to get more books in this series and we get to see the sexy hunks of the team lose their hearts to feisty women! I read this on Kindle Unlimited, I loved every page and read it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down once I started it!
Clay 'Condor' East is the new SAC of a team specifically geared towards Serial Killers. He initially meets Hattie briefly because of work, but then sees her again and that initial spark of interest between them flares up. She and her family have some health issues to deal with for her dad and Clay becomes more and more supportive of Hattie's worries. However Hattie comes to the attention of the killer due to her role as nurse and thereafter the story builds with you wondering if she will be safe and if not, will he be able to save her? I've read quite a few of Maddie Wade's books and love that some of the characters from previous stories are drawn in for a variety of reasons. This is book 1 of a new series, so I'll look forward with interest to reading more soon. Thoroughly enjoyed learning about this new team and want to find out how it will evolve in the follow up stories.
It wasn't a bad book, it just didn't grab my interest and hang on like I would have preferred. It was easy to put down and pick back up later. I felt a little disconnected from the suspense part and the romance part didn't feel genuine to me. It was by turns too innocent and then a little dirty thrown in which didn't seem to jive. I liked the main characters well enough, Hattie was independent but not obnoxious and pigheaded about it, she knew when to give and take. That being said I never really felt like I knew either of them that well. In addition this book could have really used a proofreader, there were many mistakes/typos that a proofreader could easily have fixed. I also got the impression that the author is probably British, there were numerous instances of british English rather than American.
A great series - hunting down a serial killer & finding the one to love - perfect!
Special Agent in Charge (SAC) has a team to hunt down & end serial killers - gotta love that mission! Hattie an ER Nurse seems the good & bad in humanity. This has a stressful twist in who is the serial killer & why then capture. It is a great military service to civilian life. If you like the brotherhood Series with Susan Stoked then you will love this spin off by Madrid Wade Operation Alpha Series. Contemporary romance V3S2 great series.
