This is a great book for Key Stage 1 and the beginning of Key Stage 2. A number of really entertaining and amusing poems which will keep them entertained and could be a really great introduction to just how fun poetry can be.
The Ellyworth cry for instance contains a rather long poem for this age group of a girl who cries so much that she floods her entire town which seems dreadful until she stops and the town realises the tourism they are about to lose from not being flooded by tears anymore. Many of the poems will build up to some form of punchline for a joke one or two of which are a little bit dark but all are completely child friendly and will have younger children laughing out loud at many of them.
The book is relatively short but contains many good poems that you could use for all sorts of different lesson themes as the themes of the poems range from more outlandish themes like the Ellyworth cry to a humorous look at things like spiders and monsters like the poem On reflection which has a monster sad because he is convinced he cannot scare anybody, only to look at himself in the mirror and proceed to scare himself to death because he looks so frightening. It has a good message of believing in yourself (somewhat) as well as just being a very amusing concept in it's own right. There is a lot of things you could do with this book indeed.
