Claire Jennings was just a child when her voice and her innocence were brutally stolen. And now she's forced to live her life in silence. She wishes that she could scream, cry or call out the name of the boy who'd always kept her safe. But crying and screams were just a part of her happily ever before. And now that she's eighteen, she's been kicked out of her foster home only to fall into the ruthless grip of the local gang, the Vex. A gang that only wants one thing, to ruin her. But how can they destroy someone who's already broken?
Nate Brooks comes with a mean fight in the cage. His undefeated title rings true, except for one match from his past he just couldn't win. The girl he couldn't protect. Until an injured, terrified woman breaks into his gym and stirs up the beasts from his childhood. When they fit their broken pieces together, they discover their jagged edges might be just enough to take the Vex down. Together they seek to find the voice she'd lost so long ago. And maybe, just maybe it will be enough to finally fight the quiet.
I'm a hopeful romantic and unrecovering chocoholic, who believes in the power of destiny and undeniable coincidence. Writing, art, calligraphy, color guard, good stories, random acts of kindness, and the grace of a new day make my heart beat a little faster.
I live in Missouri with my drop-dead gorgeous husband and hilarious son. I graduated from Lindenwood University with a B.A. in Spanish and a M.A. in Education with the full intention of teaching high school Spanish. I got all the way through the program until it was time to student-teach. I quickly realized that it was not going to be for me. Knowing what you want out of life, and how you can use your gifts in the right places is harder than it looks.
After a terrifying near-death experience, and an unmistakably powerful vision, I started to write. Writing was something I always did as a child, and even into my adulthood. I composed my teaching philosophy in the format of a poem of all things. But this time it felt like I had finally figured out where my energy should have been going all along. I wrote for me, but I loved the story so much...I thought I just might share it.

I picked up this book out of love for the author without really knowing what I was getting myself into, and boy was I in for a ride! I enjoyed the drama and the creative scene flow- as well as the constant theme of resilience and love. Different from the stories I normally read, but enjoyable still. I couldn’t put it down, start to finish took less than 4 hours!
The last chapter about gave me a friggin heart attack. Thanks Dana. lol
Let's me tell you Chapter 1 had me Ready for the Tissue box but I didn't need so many tissues (yes I cried for the pain Maddie and Jason went thru) by The Following Chapters I was OK because we find out what happen to those sweet kids. Claire afters years in the Foster system ages out and her Foster Moms kicks her out (did I want to get violent with the lady yes I did). After leaving her Home The Vex Find her & man I was holding my breath. We then meet Nate who is protecting his Kingdom of a Gym. Nate is ready to Attack Claire cause our Strong Girl finds the Gym. I won't go into more details cause let's not spoil the story. Overall this book was very quick, gave a voice to our Heroine, and made us want to get violent with the Bad guys.
Fighting Quiet by Dana Hoff is a bruised and beautiful story about survival, silence, and the healing power of love that refuses to give up. It’s not just a romance it’s a reckoning.
At its heart is Claire Jennings, a young woman whose voice was stolen long before the world stopped listening. Forced into silence after unimaginable trauma, she’s learned to exist in the quiet until survival pushes her into the path of Nate Brooks, a fighter whose own past is scarred by failure, fury, and regret. When she stumbles back into his life, the boy who couldn’t protect her becomes the man determined to stand between her and the darkness that hunts her.
Hoff writes with unflinching honesty and cinematic sensitivity, capturing both the brutality of trauma and the tenderness that comes after. Every page hums with tension physical, emotional, moral as Claire and Nate rebuild what was broken, not through words, but through action, trust, and the slow rediscovery of hope.
What makes Fighting Quiet unforgettable is its authenticity. Hoff doesn’t romanticize pain she illuminates it, showing how love, in its most patient form, can become a way back to self. It’s gritty, gut-wrenching, and impossibly moving a story for readers who crave emotional depth and hard-earned redemption.
For fans of Brittainy Cherry, Mia Sheridan, and Colleen Hoover, this novel hits like a heartbeat painful, healing, and profoundly human.
The story was a sad one. It captured my attention at the very start. Maddie and Jason are orphans in an abusive home. Frank their foster parent would get drunk and beat them both. Tragically, the abuse sent them both to the hospital and they was told each separately that each was dead. Their name changed and lived separate lives not knowing they both survived. Maddie new name turned to Clair and not much changed for her. Her life stayed tragically sad. Where Jason now Nate life turned to the better. While Clair was kicked out of her last foster home with no money and no voice. She takes off and runs until she ends up on the wrong side of the tracks and gets attacked again. This is were it turns again in her short life. She breaks free from her attacker and runs into a gym. Guess who's gym? Nate (Jason). The story becomes this second chance love/ trauma abuse/ gang violence/ no voice/ fighting to survive/ to forgiveness. Sounds like it would be a great story... It was not. I almost didn't finish it. But I was thinking it might get better. Nope! The end.
