It's no coincidence this collection of sermons is entitled Christ Crucified. Professor Bird teaches and preaches a hermeneutic which finds Christ-and His shed blood-in every line of Scripture. This is particularly gratifying when hearing sermons on the Old Testament, Bird's academic discipline. Again, it's no coincidence that this volume is subtitled Lutheran Sermons, for this discovery of Christ in every word of the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms is a Lutheran hermeneutic indeed. He who quenched the thirst of His people through the water flooding from the stricken rock has come to quench every thirst, every desire, every need you have, not by water alone, but by water commingled with blood, cascading from His stricken side. First to last, with every page in between, Christ crucified.
