This book's target reader because of its level of insight/sophistication: a fourth grader. Thus, the one-star marker. I had thought maybe with NLP mentioned in the title it might contain some new info. to update my long-ago studies of those techniques used in my detective days pre=trial interviews/interrogations. Not-be-had, rather simplified basic interpersonal communications overview amounting to common sense mostly. Read in less than one hour this book flunks its heady title's offering.
Now, this morning's CBS Sunday Morning tv show which I watch religiously, had a segment with Jane Pauly & Oprah casually discussing "things" - ya know, life and love of life's complicated simplicities; how "things" came to be. Point being: if you want a superb lesson in interpersonal relating/body language emitting & deciphering Watch it. They were BOTH masterful in every way!
Sidebar: I met Oprah [once] when she was a local unheard-of morning tv host for Chicago A.M. - she was the featured speaker at a charity event luncheon my firm was supporting. I had never seen her show, didn't know her from Adam or Eve but she impressed the hell out of me and afterwards I went up to her and told her so. I also made her a bold prediction: that she had great "things" in her future. Ha hah .. would that I had become a commodities trader instead like I had wished .. pork bellies up bet on it!
How to Read People Like a Book explores how communication and body language can be used to better understand and connect with others. While the topic is interesting and the book offers some useful insights, it was a fairly short read and, overall, just okay for me. It might be a good introduction for those new to the subject, but I found it lacking in depth.
