Talia will stop at nothing to find Melony alive, even if she must employ her personal brand of justice to make it happen.

This was an emotional read for me because I didn’t expect to ever read another book featuring my favorite Talented characters. When I heard that the Sophie’s were giving us this gift, I knew I’d have to savor it, make it last as long as I can. There was one really heartbreaking moment in the Talented series that I had somehow blocked from my mind, and when it was discussed in the beginning of this book, I cried...a ton. So much that I had to put the kindle down and just let it all out. It sounds silly that I am so attached to these characters and any losses feel real, but that’s how well written these books are.

Anyways, no spoilers here. If you loved the Talented series, you’re going to love this as well. If you haven’t read the Talented series yet, you don’t have to in order to enjoy this one, but I highly recommend buying this one as well as the Talented series and then binging away. There are spoilers in this, and I think you should read from the beginning and let your emotions take a beating like I did.

“What you call ‘recklessness’ is what I add to the table. You get me as is or not at all”

Spending time in Talia’s head again was so much fun. Her attitude never fails to make me smile.

“I swore I saw admiration cross his face. ‘You really are—‘“
“‘Crazy?’ I supplied”
“I was going to say magnificent.”

OMG this scene was so good. It was fun trying to guess who our next super villain is going to be. This book was the perfect appetizer for what I feel is to come. I’m dying for more, and I have two requests; please let Ian be okay because I have a big crush on him, and I’d love for Ian to get his own book :-)

I received a copy and volunteered to review it.

“DELTA” is the first installment in the brand-new dystopian “Talented: Variants” series by Sophie Davis, which is set in the same world as her previous “Talented” series. Both series share a common verse, nevertheless “Talented: Variants” can be read as a stand alone or in conjunction with any given book in the previous “Talented” series.

Talia and Erik are bringing their adopted son Alex to his first school day at the Crane Academy, a private school for talented children (Alex talent is ‘remote viewing’, despite being blind). As they arrive at the Academy Talia is call into service again to find Melony (sister of her best friend), who is missing. Talia never wanted to use her powers again (she is a ‘mental manipulator’), but friends and family come first.

Sophie Davis’s dystopian story is fast-paced, action-rich, filled with unexpected twist and a fully entertaining from start to end. The plot is captivating from the very first page, as Talia ‘visits’ her departed friends and family in the private cemetery and manages to give the reader a full overview of the world and the starting point of the action. The story is well-written and has a good middle pace that allows the reader to follow the action easily. The characters are interesting, well depicted and relatable, the locations (i.e Interlaken) well chosen and a fresh alternative to the usually US-related locations in the genre. A good start into the series, which will appeal equally to previous fans of the verse and newcomers looking for new gifted-dystopian reading material.

I read the first few books in the original Talented series just over 8 years ago, so when I saw a new series was coming out I was excited and jumped at the chance to read an advanced copy.

This was just as compelling and action-packed as I remember the original series being and I can't wait for book 2 in this new Talented: Variants series. It was easy to pick up the thread even if you haven't read the original series, it was so long ago I couldn't have told you what had happened or who everyone was, but Sophie Davis puts enough backstory in there that I didn't feel at all lost, it just made me want to revisit and finish the first series.

There is plenty going on, old talents and new talents are emerging. There are those who are against the Talented being allowed to live amongst the 'normal' people, the biggest group being the Son's of After, who hunt down those who have Talents. Talia is their number one most wanted, which makes her agreeing to help find a missing girl that much more dangerous. There are plenty of secrets, even amongst those who Talia considers her friends. I love the relationship between Talia, Erik, and their adopted son Alex, even when they are disagreeing or in Alex's case, not doing what he is told.

I am really looking forward to seeing where Talia's investigations lead her in the next book and hope Erik doesn't know more than he is saying.

I really enjoyed the Talented series and so when I discovered there was a spin-off series, “Delta,” I figured I would give it a try.

This time Talia and Erik are living together on an island where they are raising Donavan son, Alek. They love him unconditionally and will do anything to protect him. So, when it’s time for him to go off to school for talented kids they are nervous. Although Alek is blind he is able to see in him mind and he can also see others in their world.

As Talia and Erik drop Alek off to their good friend, Henri the head master, they know he will be in good hands. Besides they will get to take Alek home on the weekends. What they didn’t expect was that Henri’s sister, Melany is missing. Her boyfriend, Connor who is a norm is seeking help in finding her.

As Talia and Erik leave the safety of their island they had no idea how much the world has changed and just how dangerous it is. This world is actively seeking talented and Talia is number one of their hit list.

While I enjoyed portions of this read Overall I found it flat. There was limited action and the only character I truly enjoyed was little Alek. Too bad he wasn’t in more of this book. I don’t that I will be going on to future installments. It just wasn’t for me.

You don't need to be familiar with the Talented world to read this!

I will start with I've read EVERY single Talented book multiple times. I love them. I love Talia & her growth. I love reading about her and Eric.

That said, you don't need to have read those books to read this one. Sophie Davis gives plenty of back ground info thru the book to help you understand what's going on. The world building is amazing as always.

This takes place 5 years (I'm pretty positive) after the events of the last talented book. Those with natural born talents (or powers) aren't well liked in most places in the world. People view talented people with suspicion. There are a few safe havens out there tho and that's where most flock. In this book, they are searching for a missing talented girl. You get to see Talia back in action. You'll see old friends (if you read the Talented series) and meet some new ones.

I couldn't put this book down! It's that good. Trust me. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next in this world!

So, I knew I wanted to read Delta because I missed Talia and the rest of the Talented crew. I expected the story to be just a one-off plot in the same world. What I didn’t guess is how engrossed I would become immediately nor that Sophie Davis would have dreamed up a story that was reminiscent and new at the same time!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes story about those with powers. For anyone who read the Talented Saga, it will feel like putting on an old comfortable shirt with many returning characters and a familiar world. For anyone new to Talented, jump right in; you won’t be sorry.

The story gripped me right from the first couple pages and kept me riveted to the end. The basic story was wrapped up so no major cliffhangers. Yet there were enough unanswered questions to have me dying for the next Variants story!

I received an Advanced Reader copy of this book. The opinions are my own unbiased review.

Review for Delta by Sophie Davis
This is not the first book by this author I have read. I have read all of the Timewaves series, it is excellent. This is a new series for me and I loved the characters and action in this first book. Not wanting to give spoilers, the writing is excellent with great plot and lots of action. Some of these characters have been in previous books but for me they were new so the author did allow a new reader to catchup a bit on what had been happening in their lives as well as learning aspects of their characters and motivations. The setting for the action had various locations. The Luxus location was really fascinating as was the entrance into Seattle. These descriptions really added to the story as did the wonderful dialogue between the main characters of Talia, Erik and Crane. I look forward to reading the next book but will also go back and read the Talented series. I have a subscription to Kindle and these books are all there.

Delta (Talented: Variants #1), my first (short) read from author Sophie Davis. December seemed to be my month for new authors and January is to continuing the trend. Aa well written, interesting read, with intriguing, well-developed characters. The book started slowly but picked up quickly. It was full of twists & turns that leave you guessing. The characters each had their own differing personalities and reminded me of Marvel’s X-Men * Professor Xavier’s school or Inhumans, with a bit of S.H.I.E.L.D. thrown in. The entire book left you wanting to know so much more, but also left so many unanswered questions. I look forward to more from this author and in this series, I need book 2 ASAP!!! "I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

The same, but different. I've waited for a comeback from Talia and Eric for a long time and they haven't disappointed. Talia may seem more reserved on the outside, but she's still the fiesty firecracker itching to go off on the inside. This is just the beginning of Talia's new mission, whether it's approved or not never stopped her in the past, and certainly won't stop her now. There's only one little someone who might keep her somewhat on the safer track, but somehow I think she may need constant reminding of what/who her actions could potentially harm.
The only problem with receiving arcs from amazing authors is waiting for the next instalment to be written! Can't wait to continue this new series!

I received this book for free as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Sophie Davis wrote a long awaited story that takes place 5 years after a great dystopian series, The Talented Saga. I didn’t realize how much I missed the great main characters, Talia & Erik along with others. The storyline is very good, there’s not a lot of action but, no matter, the charisma and suspense are still present along with the great writing. I loved the saga and still love these characters. Looking forward to the next book which will undoubtedly have a new enemy trying and failing, to hurt Talia.

The Talented Saga is one of my all time favorite series and this spin off series did not disappoint - it is a fast paced, suspense filled, magical page turner. There is enough back story given that the reader does not have to read Talented to enjoy this series. I really enjoyed getting to know the new characters and catching up with the old. I love that the characters Talents are not the normal ones you find in every other book and although parts of this book take place at a school it is nothing like all of those Academy books popping up everywhere. I had a hard time putting the book down because I needed to know what would happen next and I cannot wait for the next book.

Talia and Erik go undercover for a friend to look for his missing sister who’s latent talent has gone out of control. Even though Erik works for UNITED still and she doesn’t because of the restrictions that it wants to put on her and the price she now has on her head since she is the most powerful Talent. But now their exciting and interesting mission has turned up more intriguing, unanswered and unusual findings about Talents and their abuse than what they originally began with as they along with others go through leads. Fun read

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Sophie! I am so excited about this new series! This first book was absolutely amazing! I love Talia and Erik do it was great reading them again! I forgot that Henri had a sister until this book! I am happy that they found Melony and she is doing somewhat ok. Now that Talia found out there are duplicates of Melony, she seems determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. FANTASTIC job Sophie! I would highly recommend this book! I cannot wait for the next book!

So happy to revisit The Talented!

I was so excited when I saw a new book expanding the Talented series (which I love)! Reading it did not disappoint.

This story takes place about five years after the original series ends. Talia and Erik are called upon to use their skills to find a missing woman, the sister of their friend. As they search the situation gets more intriguing- an exclusive island, undercover work, lookalikes, lies, and truth.

My only complaint is the cliffhanger ending setting up the next book which isn’t available yet! So hard to wait!

I LOVE these characters!

I don't even have words for how happy I am that Talia & Erik are back! I absolutely love Talia and her attitude and how she just doesn't take crap from anyone. I only wish the rest of this series was out so I could read them now! But I will be patiently awaiting the next book. It was really awesome to get to know Alex a little more as an older child and how great the three of them are doing as a family. Whether you have read The Talented Saga or not, you will love this book which has suspense, mysteries, romance and superpowers!

Sophie Davis has quickly become one of my favorite authors, and they continue to amaze me with every book published!
Not only have I missed the Talented world, but I’ve yearned to see what happened next to our fearless protagonist in the original series, and thanks to this series- I finally can.
With thrilling events, epic drama, and characters you can relate to- you’re going to absolutely LOVE this book!

It's great to see Talia back in action. There were quite a few uncomfortable and unpredictable events throughout the story. I recognized several names from earlier stories. I am curious as to where the series will lead.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

The first book in the new Variant series and the hunt for Melony keeps you riveted. This book obviously uses characters and makes references to another series that I hadn't yet read. However, though I think I would have gotten more out of this book if I had read the other series first, I don't feel that it was necessary as the references were done in such a way to fill any gaps. Really interesting read and characters .... looking forward to the next in the series.

If you've read the Talented series then you'll love this new story, if you haven't then start there...
I've read them all and then once again in lockdown and now this one.
It's really good, the plot follows Talia and Eric and little Alex with a mystery that at the end asks lots of questions... So now I'm waiting for the next book please Sophie!

Not enough

I have revert Talented book so couldn't wait to read this. Plot and characters were as engaging as always! However, 1. Many typos, 2. Lackluster resolution, 3. Too short (related to #2), and 4. Cliffhanger ending - really? How long do I have to wait for the next? Unfair!

I really enjoyed reading this. Having not read the previous series I felt a little lost at first, but as the story picked up, I felt myself getting sucked in. This one was presented as a mystery, and the entire mystery element made the book even better. I am looking forward to seeing how the series continues, and checking out the previous series too.

I loved this book! The only bad part was trying to stop reading it when my lunch break was over so I could get back to work. HAHA. I cannot wait to read the next book. This book left me with lots of questions (like who this group of people are, the twins story, etc etc -don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read the book yet), that I just cannot wait for the next one.

I love that the authors have returned to the talented world. I especially love going back to Talia’s story. I missed her and Erik. This was a good start to a new spinoff series. I love the new concept and all the intrigue. There is so much potential for how the plot will unfold in future installments. Can’t wait for the next book! Five glittery stars!
