This was going to be a disaster, but she felt like a moth and he was the flame. No matter how many signs she saw to stay away, she was intrigued by his undeniable charm. His mouth was reckless, and his behavior was unruly yet that wasn't enough to make her shy away. Against her better judgement, Bambi flew into the flame.
Dysfunctional and entertaining as hell is how I’d describe this book. These characters are some of the most toxic individuals that will have you looking at them upside their heads for the shyt they say and do but, you will absolutely fall in love with them. The Carter Family has got to be one of the most functional dysfunctional families I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. The house is led by Spade Carter, who happens to be a pimp, and his menagerie of women (Saedy, Peach, and Kimmy). Spade is not your average pimp. I guess you could say he’s a pimp with a heart. He doesn’t run his house with an iron fist. As long as they have his money, he allows his ladies to come and go as they please, but they must abide by his rules. No exceptions. King is Spade’s biological grandson. Because of the woman who broke his heart and the circumstances surrounding the death of his son, Spade raises King to be a cold, calculating, and disrespectful menace towards women. Tristan is brought up similarly but different because, his mama is present to soften some of Spade's hard knock life teachings. His motto is, “We don’t love these heauxs.” King takes this to heart and he, indeed, does not love these heauxs until he meets her. Enter Ms. Bambi Jones. She turns King’s world upside down and, for the first time in his life, he questions if he’s truly capable of committing to just one woman. This book is a roller coaster of emotions. It gives you nostalgic Hustle & Flow vibes with plot twists, witty characters, and a couple of bad boy book baes you’ll hate to love but will still root for. From the drama to the dysfunctional family dynamics, these characters will have you ready to fight, laughing your azz off at their antics, and utterly shocked by some the things that comes out of their mouths. If you’re looking for a good time, this book is definitely for you.
This is my second read by Ladii Nesha and I must say I’m fascinated. The Carter family was a whole dysfunctional mess. Even the old heads were acting up and had a healthy sense of humor. King and Tristen have been taught from a very young age “we don’t love them hoes”. When I say King’s grandfather lived by this motto, this man really took it to the extreme. Because it’s been beaten and ingrained into King, he out here just hitting and quitting everybody until he meets Bambi. She has him turning in his players card. This book is literally laugh out loud funny. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
When I tell you this crazy story will take you on a crazy ride…that’s exactly what I mean. That Carter Family was absolutely crazy…Ironically, I love them…this is so unusual because I ordinarily only listen to contemporary romance…but, I accidentally read out of order and read Holiday with the Carters and I knew I Had To Go Back….This has to be the best urban/street lit book I’ve ever read…the humor, the witty clap back and the dysfunctional love will pull you in. I can’t wait to read book 2.
I don’t think I’ve laughed this much from reading a book ever!! This Carter family was cut from a different cloth…. DIFFERENT!! They had no chill!
Spade Carter was the head of this family that consisted of him, the pimp, his heaux’s Saedy, Kimmy and Peach, Spade’s grandson King and Peach’s son Tristian. Spade was not your average pimp. He wasn’t abusive and allowed his girls to be comfortable with what they did and didn’t want to do. He only had 5 rules and as long as they followed those rules everything ran smoothly. King and Tristian…so much can be said about these two! They’ve been wreckless since birth. A good amount of their wreckless behavior stems from Spade’s “We do love these heaux’s” rule. His heart was broken in the worst way and he feels like the only way to protect his boys is by ensuring that love is the furthest thing from their minds. Everything is going just as Spade planned until an unsuspecting young woman named Bambi comes through and gives his grandson a run for his money!
This was a rollercoaster 🎢 ride in the best way possible!! The drama, the laughs, the twists, the turns was all very entertaining! This is not your average family but they will definitely remind you of a few folks you may be related to😩🤧!
The movie theater scene and the wedding vows took me tf out! 🤣😭🤣😭 I can’t wait to see what more this family has to offer because I know they are about to take me through it… *runs to refill 🍷 and 🍿*
this book was different than what im used to reading from ladii nesha but baby it was GOOD! from the hoe/pimp relationships, to the drama from being raised by a pimp.. king & bambi made it! im excited to read the reat of the series.
I’m not gonna lie I wanted Spade to like jump off a cliff cause all cause YOU got your heart broken and YOU practically got your son killed you teaching your grandson to be the same heartless loser like you? PLEASE!! Love Tristian down. Love King down.. he just gotta get it together and unlearn his sociopathic ways he was taught. Love Bambi, she a real ride or die.. couldn’t be me LOL but at least it’s someone. Shayla is literally me, love that. Just amazing!! Also who the hell let Check and Kimmy write they vows 😹😹 I’m excited for the 2nd one!!

4.5 Stars The Carter family is hella wild and dysfunctional! I died laughing the majority of this book. I can say I've never read a love story quite like this one. King Carter had been brash, rowdy, and cocky his entire life because his grandfather Spaed raised him to be ruthless. He thought if he made him unlovable and kept him from trusting these hoe$ then that would keep him safe from the pitfalls love caused. It instead left him unable to handle his feelings when he finally found a woman he loved. Bambi happened to be his one. She was the first chick that wasn't in awe at the fine as$ rude man he was. Bambi was still trying to get over a relationship that left her burned literally and emotionally. She was focused on getting money and kicking it with her cousin Shayla. Little did she know she wasn't going to be able to shake the connection she had with King. King was beyond messy. He was single during the day, but caking in the evening. He had Bambi accepting all types of bs she didn't deserve. Sis was better than me, because I might have caught a case dealing with him. It was literally too much. Shayla was my type of friend/cousin, talk about a real rider. I loved how she rode for Tree too. She was consistently loyal! Tree was a little grimy too, but he wasn't afraid to chase her and let it be known he wanted her even when she cut him off.
Whew the old as$ adults. They were a mess and I definitely called that plot twist with Lena. With all the craziness and chaos it made sense that the youngins had a lot to work through. That Sunday dinner, the way they described ole girls lace front, Check's trick self kept me thoroughly entertained. Lastly, I wish the cover was better. They needed a thicker woman with some box braids. Definitely an opportunity to be more authentic to the characters.
Wow this was a rollercoaster. I felt like it was a crazy cycle. The humor and the dysfunction I learned to love. I’m glad King and Bambi relationship happened the way it did. Because I wanna see the growth in the next book. The wedding 🤣🤣 I shouldn’t even be shocked because that’s just how the Carter family is.
I loooooved this book. LOVED it. King and Tristen are my babies … like I love them both. I figured out early on the Lena was King’s mom but that didn’t ease the anticipation of everyone else finding out. This is my first read from this author but now I’m fitna stalk her. Her writing style is subperb. On to book 2.

The coincidence of Lena being Kings birth mom threw me off but it was still a good story and I love the way Ladii Nesha brings personality to her characters. Also, I would love a book dedicated to Tristan and and Shayla.

I was entertained- that’s for sure. I laughed so much- the jokes were killing me lol. I’m interested to see how King does in an actual relationship. I wish that there was extra spacing in the text between scenes.
it’s not a 3 but it’s not a 4⭐️ because dassittt???dysfunctional… but entertaining … that’s all i got chileeee. will i read the second book? yes. yes i am.
This series is a top fav for hilarity and family for me. Although Emotionally Scarred can be read as a standalone I’m adding it to this series review because it’s a family affair. Ladii Nesha provides pure comedy and realistic love in this romance series. Honestly, I loved every character, including Henry Sr/Carl by the end of this series. And she was cooking with crack to have me liking Spade at all.
SHAYLA. Hands down a fav FMC for me. Her and her taser. I was rooting so hard for Tristan and Shayla to get it together, but at one point I thought they would be better off without each other. Tristan may have gotten off a little too easy for me, but she loved that man.
Henny and Jessica was pure drama. Heck, this story had my heart in my throat then my stomach. I didn’t know if I was gonna make it, but this story was my favorite because we got to see Henny make it back from a huge mistake. The writing was so good that I was anxious for him, but grandma Reese came at the right time with the right words.
Shout out to Bianca and Aubrey. The definition of sisters from different misters.
Damn! This was some of the most dysfunctional ish, I have ever read! But, it was entertaining as hell! Spade really got on my nerves! I truly could not understand his reasoning for raising the boys the way that he did! He took no responsibility for any of his actions, and it was either his way or out on your ass! King! Whew! He was a lot to take in. Straight ratchet mouth and reckless, but was always upfront about his intentions. You felt for him, because he had been force fed bs about women his entire life. He knew nothing else. Bambi, was my girl! She knew off rip that King was big trouble, but she couldn't stay away. The relationship that these two had was for the books. Bambi, taught King how to love and receive love. However, he rebuffed them at every turn. She made him feel things that scared him, and he didn't know how to deal with those feelings. They went through it! But this love would not be denied! Really enjoyed Tristen and Shayla as well. Great read! 👍👍👍
This was a really entertaining book; I was laughing for more than half the book. There was so much going on throughout that my head was on a swivel trying to keep up. The men in this story, King and Tristen, were hilarious. They were raised in less than ideal ways but they made due with what they had. King was taught to never trust or love a woman and he took that to heart. While Tristen was more than willing to try his hand at love. Bambi—the leading lady was the good girl that fell for the bad boy. Trying to get over her ex, she met King. After countless attempts at keeping King in the friend-zone, Bambi fell for him. King took my girl through it! It took a dark secret and a tragic accident for King to realize that he needed Bambi. I didn’t necessarily like Spade’s character but I feel like without him the storyline wouldn’t have made sense and even he got love in the end.. hmm. 🤣I would recommend this book if you are looking for some drama and a few laughs. ❤️
Meet the Carter Family! Twin brothers Spade and Check run two very dysfunctional households, made up of pimps, prostitutes and God help them…children. At first glance, I couldn't stop laughing at these bad kids, but after further investigation, determined that they were only acting out what they were taught at home.
Tristen and King are raised as brothers and nothing or no one can come between them. Self-appointed womanizers, neither man was prepared for that one woman that would make them give love a try. They also weren't prepared for all of the drama that came along with it.
Bambi tries to get over a broken heart by isolating at her parents home. Her cousin Shayla, convinces her to go out and she links eyes with the one guy who has previously caught her attention. But, can she get past his cold-hearted nature, as well as past?
This 💎💎💎💎💎book was my introduction to @author_nesha, and I'm looking forward to reading more. Be prepared to lose sleep and bust out in random laughs.
Laaaawd I’m so sick off y’all lying!!! 4.8 stars?! Bambi was weak af!! Also when are we gonna be done with the whole “I’m pissed but this man is so fine my body betrays me” trope? Get real! If I’m mad ain’t no hunchin until we get an understanding. Also she let this man get her pregnant, convince her to get an abortion, and then TAUNT her for getting the abortion he wanted her to have?! I’d’ve been completely done then! ALSO getting caught with another woman and he wrestled her to stay and slammed her in the wet spot he made with another woman!! Nobody else sees anything wrong with this?!

I love this author and the book had funny parts but it was too much verbal abuse and physical abuse for me. The women kept giving in too much and the men kept making promises that they never kept. Your girl in a coma and your thinking about getting head from another chick? His best friend gets shot and he's mad his girl isn't focused on sex cause she wants him to heal? I would sneeze and cough on these men to let them know I'm allergic to bullshit.
Dysfunctional and highly entertaining! This author has easily become one of my faves. She knows how to create an intriguing and crazy as hell set of characters within an unexpected storyline. It was hilarious, sad, happy, disturbing and I loved every second of it. The story flowed so well too. I love the way this author uses third person. Highly recommend this read. Now on to part 2.
