Simon Says... Hide, a brand new thriller series from USA Today best-selling author Dale Mayer.
Newly promoted detective Kate Morgan stands up for the victims in the world, never backing down or giving up. From a family of victims, Kate will not tolerate those who take advantage of others. The worst ones prey on the hopes of desperate people to line their own pockets.
And when Kate finds a connection between more than a half-dozen cold cases to a recent case--where a child's life is in jeopardy--she'll make a deal with the devil himself to protect the child.
Having the gift of Sight, Simon St. Laurant knows that once he uses it, he can never walk away. But when nightmares of his own past are triggered, Simon can’t stand back and watch child after child being abused. Determined to help, Simon vows to save these children--even if it means dealing with the cranky and critical Detective Kate Morgan.

Heart wrenching, disturbing and unfortunately takes place all over the world. Dale Mayer takes a horrific subject (pedophiles) to start this new series of newly minted detective Kate Morgan and Simon, a wealthy man with his own brutal past who has *the sight* . There is anger, horror, sorrow and hope. This is written from various characters points of view and at times I felt tangled up. As if I was Kate trying to determine who the players were, making the connections. Kate appeared very abrasive to me. As the new detective, on a solid team who lost a loved member, some of it is understandable. Just when I thought I couldn't ever like her as a person, we saw a little more give and I was hooked. The first time I met one of the characters, I knew he was going to be bad, but the ending where it is all put together with everyone was unexpected. I love a book that throws me, and this did. It also inspired me to read again, and I don't read books twice. This series has me signed up for the ride. Thank you Dale Mayer , thank you Booksprout for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
😯Reluctant psychic meets sceptical cop = one EXCITING read!!💖
What a great introduction to this new series by our beloved author! Wow!!! I was blown away by both the main characters. This isn't a typical cop/psychic book by any means 😉. We've got someone who initially doesn't even think they are psychic, and just thinks they're having constant nightmares....and one very, very cynical cop who has earned that the hard way. Both these characters we learn have gone through extremely hard things in their pasts which add many layers to this story. It will tug at your heartstrings, have you desperate for them to find answers, and want justice for the victims. I cannot wait to see what's next in this series!!! I'm hoping Kate may finally find out answers to her own family mystery in one of the upcoming books. In the meantime I'm loving the banter between Simon and Kate!!! I can't wait to see where this partnership goes 💖.
The first book in this new series deals with a horrible subject. I had a hard time warming up to both the lead characters in this book but after I did I’m looking forward to reading the next book.
Kate Morgan is determined to track down the pedophile who has abused and killed a child. When psychic Simon St.Laurant comes to the police station to tell her about the nightmare that he is having about abused children, Kate doesn't believe in psychics and considers him a charlatan. Her sergeant wants him investigated as a possible suspect. As Kate pursues answers about the wealthy psychic and the missing children, Simon gets pulled more into the investigation. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I don't usually read crime mysteries because they are usually a little grittier. I decided to try this one since I have enjoyed reading many of the author's other series. Even though this is about a tough subject, the story doesn't go into detail about the abuse of the children. The story is told by three points of view - Kate, Simon, and the pedophile. Luckily, the story doesn't go into horrific detail. This is a fast read. I wasn't sure if I liked Simon or Kate at first. As I learned more about their past and why they felt the way they did, I found them more likable. This is an interesting new crime mystery series.
Detective Kate Morgan is trying to fit in with her fellow team members since she is replacing a Detective killed in the line of duty. So being the new member of the team an low member of the team is called to take a statement from someone who stopped by.Simon St Laurent is a psychic who has been fighting his gift for years he knows once he opens that door excepting his gift he can never close that door again.Kate's team are hunting for a child killer what Simon tells Kate is that they are hunting a serial child killer. There are so many twists an turns to this story you will be riveted until the very last page an leave you riveted until the very last page an leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author pulls you into the story an her characters are captivating.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

Simon Says....Hide is a great start to a new series by Dale Mayer. This is the first book of Dale Mayer's in the suspense genre that I have read. I will admit that I was hesitant to try it out. When a writer is so successful and prolific in a different genre, I am nervous about trying a new one. I am now hooked! I will read anything that Ms. Mayer writes.
This book could be difficult to read for many people. It deals with the very uncomfortable subject of child abduction and pedophiles. Although there are no graphic scenes in the book, it was still challenging to read. It felt so real and you just wanted the evil to stop.
Simon is a psychic. He is not happy with his gift - and at times does not view it as a gift. When nightmares start keeping him awake, he shares them with newly promoted Detective Kate Morgan. Due to her past, Kate believes that psychics are charlatans. She waivers in how to deal with Simon - not sure if he is part of the evil, a kook, or someone who may actually be able to help. Their characters develop holistically. They learn how to work together to put an end to the evil that is haunting their city.
I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

TW//CW abuse, blood, brutality, child abuse, death, dead body, disturbing content, domestic abuse, kidnapping, sexual abuse, pedophiles
I really really love this new series. It starts with this first book that's creepy, disturbing, full of suspense and thriller. It starts with Pedophiles case, a child kidnapping, a bone chilling story that seriously disturbing and although sometimes it's not explicit but it really takes my imagination to that horrible place with those children, I can imagine all the terrifying traumatize things. My heart racing most of the time, I cried, cringed, and winced with this book. I can feel all the angst, the spine-chilling sensation and the desperation. It's also multiple pov from Kate, Simon and the bad guy, so yeah... the thriller takes on another level of creepiness.
Aside from this wonderful crazy creepy story, it's also following Detective Kate Morgan and Simon who has the gift of Sight, solving the case, save the children and catch the bad guy. I can't not root for these two wonderful characters, their background story so heartbreaking and I loveee their banter and chemistry.
Wonderfully creepy story with amazing characters, definitely totally highly recommended for suspense thriller fans.
My Thoughts: Wonderful start to a new-to-me series!
This is my first Dale Mayer read and I am glad that I stumbled into her! Slow start but picks up about three-quarters through. It is interesting to follow the journey of a psychic who didn't want to be one...
What's even better?!? There are a few more books in the series!!
Being book 1, the book is about introducing the readers into this world. It's not that the author did not spin a good tale, because she did. But the coming-of-age theme is salient in this book.
This is also my first Kristi Alsip listen and I like the way she reads. Fast becoming a fan! However, I have a whinge with the audiobook format... Chapter 2 comes after chapter 3... WTF! And the kindle ebook and audible audiobook is not whispersync! Darn it!! So, no! I am not happy with the audiobook!

Kate Morgan is not having an easy time in her new position as detective. Her supposed team is still missing the man she replaced who died in the line of duty. While she gets it, it means she also works solo. She's been working cold cases, reviewing files, looking for similarities any thing that might connect something. She also keeps a copy of her brother Timmy's file on her desk as a reminder why she's doing this job. She's getting some air at a park when on of her team calls they found another, this one a little boy.
Simon St. Laurant wakes from a recurring nightmare, a little boy and man that Simon recognizes the look of a predator in the man. He doesn't understand why he's having these nightmares again. He kicks himself out if it only to be thrown back into a different scene, and then another. Most of his dreams are of things past, except lately they seem to be more current and he's having visions outside of his dreams as well..
In spite of his personal feelings about the police, he knows he has to share what he's been seeing. He knows he'll face skepticism and he's not looking forward to it.
Kate's the one who's sent to interview him, and the one dream from the past the child's name is Timothy. This of course sets Kate off.
Of course his nightmares and visions relate to her current case, something she didn't expect.
Now to determine if this Simon person is involved or really just some sort of psychic.
Several interesting things happen as this book continues, another body for one, and then Simon seems to come up with some very accurate stuff when she needs it most.
Edge of your seat suspense, laughter, tears, intrigue and a touch of heat in this excellent beginning to a new series.
Detective Kate Morgan worked hard to get to that level and having come from a family of victims she stands up for the victim, abhors those that prey on them, and never backs down. So when Kate finds a connection between several cold cases to a recent case where a child's life is in jeopardy she'll make a deal with the devil if he has to in order to protect the child. Simon St. Laurent has a gift of the sight and knows that once he uses it he can never walk away. But when nightmares of his own past are triggered he just can't stand back and watch child after child being abused. So Simon vows to save the children even if it means he has to deal with critical and very cranky detective Kate Morgan.
OMG - a change from the usual subject and style of book from this author but already I am addicted and want to know what happens next both between Kate and Simon as well as what kind of case will they be jointly involved in next. I loved their relationship which had distrust on the one side and hesitancy on the other merged into a physical attraction that it was almost impossible to ignore. It was certainly a mystery that the reader was able to puzzle along at the same time as the detective Kate and Simon. I could feel and empathise with their thoughts and emotions and navigate the mystery with them both. Contains some explicit sexual content. Read this and become addicted. I wonder if Simon could give me a set of lottery numbers?

Oh my goodness Dale Mayer, this book took me to disturbing areas that I didn't even want to think about but I was hooked from the first page. Kate Morgan worked hard to get her promotion to detective but she was replacing a much loved and respected member of the team and she was going to have to fight hard to be accepted and gain their respect. This didn't bother Kate, she preferred working on her own, standing up for the victims of crime because that was an area that she knew so much about, it was personal. When Kate noticed a connection between a current hideous case that she was working on and some cold cases from the past the victims started to mount and these victims were mostly children. Wealth gambler/ property dealer Simon St. Laurant had the gift of sight, he didn't want to acknowledge the fact but his grandmothers words kept coming back to him. When Simon began texting Kate with information he immediately became top of the suspect list. Simon was quite an odd character, his wealth was self made but he gave a lot of it away, what was he hiding ? Despite this there was a strange attraction between no nonsense, straight talking Kate and Simon that they couldn't ignore but they must, he was a prime suspect. This story is gripping, powerful and disturbing with nail biting suspense, it is the first book in this series and I can't wait for the next one, this series has the makings of being one of Dale Meters best.
At first it was hard. This tiny little details, and boring looking, searching, overthinking, not sleeping. Not eating, etc. You had them down perfectly, Ms. Mayer, and while it took time to get into novel, I simply flipped back, reread, understood, and went forward. Once I began to understand Kate's mind a little better, and her dedication to policing, I suddenly seemed to make sense . Simon, ahh Simon, you certainly did not give us omnience with Simon. Yes we knew some of his thoughts and just a few of his feelings, but frankly he was locked like Fort Knox. With, Kate the omnience was often, but not always. Frankly, there were times I wondered how her mind truly worked. I understood the puzzle solver, but with so few cues and clues, you certainly made me work! Two amazing characters, both honestly fighting for the same thing even if they do not realize it! The setting of Vancouver was perfect. Beautiful city, somewhere people love to go, it's unique, but like any large city, their exists and under belly so deviant it is hard to believe! The play, or interaction between Kate and Simon was unusual, yet it worked. Not what you expect, but perfect for the beginning of what seems to be another addictive series. I absolutely loved it! Cannot wait for the next Simon book, or Kate Morgan Thriller!
The subject matter described in this story is sensitive and painful, however, as always, this author handles it with her usual expertise and grace. Kate Morgan is new to her detective position and is taking a spot once held by a highly respected 25 year veteran who was loved by his team mates and killed on the job. The team was not ready to accept a new person even though 6 weeks had passed, they were still hurting. Kate, a natural hard worker, was doing her best to fit into a role she had been looking forward to for years. Simon St. Laurant has the gift of sight but is not super excited about it, but he is too worried about what he has seen in his dreams and what it may mean to not share it with the authorities. This is where the somewhat cranky, tired, concerned Kate meets the equally cranky, tired and concerned Simon. This is a new series with very interesting, likeable, growing characters that grab your attention from the beginning. I was really uncomfortable with the subject matter but it was a great reminder about the dedicated people who are devoted to make life better. My heartfelt thanks go out to all those who fight for justice. Thank goodness we have these dedicated people to fight for us!
The way this book was wrote took a little getting used too. Admittedly Simon says... Hide is wrote from three points of view; Kate, Simon and the pedophile. Although there was no sexual references to what the pedophile did with the children I found the way he talked about them hard to read. What scares me is there is people like him in this world (Many worse) who probably think like him. I'm appreciative though that Dale (Author) did not go into details! I did feel at times though the book just felt a little disjointed, maybe it was the way the days and times were listed... I'm just unsure. I kept reading though as I liked Simon and Kate as characters and wanted to see where it would go.
I did feel at times the story was drawn out, or maybe its where I picked it up and put it down frequently as I just didn't like the subject matter. I cannot deny that this book isn't good though and can see why many have given it such high ratings. I'm going to pick up the second book soon (Simon says... Jump) and start that. I'm just hoping we won't be going on a child abuse road again. A good mystery, likeable characters and a well investigated (I think) view of pedophile rings (Not a spoiler). 3.5 stars.
Seem I have hit the proverbial jackpot this month with "new to me authors". I will be searching out more books by Dale Mayer. I didn't like Kate Morgan to begin with, but I had to admire her devotion to the victims and how determined she was to solve the many cold cases that were piling up, especially those that involved children. It's personal to her. Her younger brother was abducted while she was watching him. She was 7. While I have to wonder who in their right mind leaves a 7-year-old to watch a younger child, the events that followed has given her the drive that fuels her chosen career. She is dedicated and committed to finding victims, which of course would include her brother. Then we have Simon St. Laurant... I loved him from the start. Simon has a past of his own that he works hard to hide but his fellow cops often find convenient and useful. Simon has the sometimes unwelcome, gift of sight, so he tells Kate that he is having visions and feels compelled to give her information he hopes is helpful. The interaction between Kate and Simon was unusual, yet it worked. I loved the banter between them, and I can't wait to see where this partnership takes them. It was not what I expected at all...but perfect for the beginning of what has all the makings of an addictive series.
This is a really intense story and one some may not like. Missing kids is probably a harder subject matter then missing women in some ways, as an adult you feel you should be able to fight back or defend yourself but kids just don't stand a chance. I felt for the children and for Simon, he hadn't had a great start to life and worked hard to keep the past right there. But his nightmares gradually pull him further into a case that ends up being massive. Kate is cynical about what he tells her, but listens anyway. Thankfully there is no instant graphic detail of things as they happen, it's kept more as discussion otherwise I think I'd have found this hard to read even though I don't have any major triggers. There are some twists I really didn't see coming or at least not the way they came about, it's a powerful subject to cover but the author did a great job and it's well written. Enough intri8that you finish it wanting to dive into the next story and this is a new series for Dale and a little different to her physcic visions series. Kept my interest throughout and look forward to more. Started 21/9/21 Finished 22/9/21
Simon Says… Hide by Dale Mayer Kate Morgan Series Book One Kate Morgan made detective three months ago. Her coworkers haven’t warmed up to her. She replaced a man they all loved, but sadly died. Not her fault. She’s fine being a loner. When a child is found dead, Kate gets to digging and finds more children connected to this murder. Worse, she finds a pedophile ring. Simon St. Laurant wants to forget his past. Yet, the sight his grandmother had seemed to be aiming for him. Nightmares. Of children. His grandma’s words come back to him how he won’t be able to fight it. So…he goes to the police. Kate’s past has her still searching for a brother who was taken at a young age. Simon has a different kind of past and his intuitive dreams. I love the way the bad guy’s POVs are added in as well. This was an excellent story, and she doesn’t go into deep details, but enough to get the drift of what’s happening. It’s a disturbing topic, but I found it eye-opening. Looking forward to more in this series. **Sensual content and language https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
New series featuring recently promoted Detective Kate Morgan and psychic Simon St Laurant. Kate's promotion came about when another detective, who was loved by his team, dies. She isn't exactly welcomed with open arms so she works her cases pretty much on her own, until she notices something strange on a young child who is deceased. This leads her to finding other cases of missing/dead children.
Simon starts having nightmares and finally decides to go to the police to tell what he's been dreaming. Kate is the detective assigned to talk to him. While Simon has inherited his talent from his grandmother, but his ability becomes stronger the more he is around Kate. And even though he has no love for cops, he feels a physical attraction to Kate.
Although this is a darker thriller due to the subject matter of pedophiles, you will be kept guessing as to who is the person(s) behind the missing and deceased children. Loved the interactions between Kate and Simon, and how Kate came to see the benefit of working with a partner.
Kate Morgan was recently promoted to detective replacing someone everyone liked. When Kate starts linking a string of kidnappings and child murders together, she is determined to prove herself by solving the case. Simon has the gift of sight but doesn’t want to embrace his gift. After nights of nightmares, Simon can’t ignore the messages that he is getting and heads to the police station. There he meets Kate and much to their chagrin, a connection is formed between them. I really loved this book. I loved reading the steps Kate takes to find the killer. I loved the relationship that she has with Simon. At first she isn’t sure if he is psychic or the killer, but as Simon helps her investigation she begins to trust him. There is so much to like in this book. It has wonderful characters, an original plot, and many twists and turns along the way.

This is 1st in the series of her Simon Says books.
Detective Kate Morgan is the newest dectective on the team. There is a lot of resentment because the one she replaced was much loved and the rest of the team didn't really want anyone to replace him. Now Kate is on an ongoing case of kidnappings and murder of young children. She gets a visit from a man name, Simon St. Laurant, who comes in to the police station to tell her of his vivid nightmares about a young boy being kidnapped.
Not believing in psychics, she files the report and goes on with the case. But, Simon keeps entering her life. He knows things before she does and even have visions of things that he must pass along to her.
Kate is trying to pull together all the clues and finds that these cases may even go back to the the kidnapping of her brother 25 years ago. Is Simon involved, doesn't he know too much, or is he really having visions and wants to help save these children.
I had trouble getting through this book. I do not plan on reading anymore in the series. There was one sex scene between Simon and Kate. It seemed like it was an afterthought by the author as there was nothing leading up to it or afterward.
There are questions that, to me, were never answered. Near the end of the book, 2 little boys were found. The reader knows what happened to one, but what about the other? He was only mentioned once, when he was found. How did Samantha's mother appear? She thought her baby was dead. So how did she know that Samantha was hers? The child was maybe 5 and the mother had never seen her before therefore never knew she was missing as she thought her baby died at birth. What happened to the sister of the pedophile? Was she charged with anything? In the states, patient confidentiality does not extend to child abuse. I don't know the laws in Canada.
Heartbreaking case but was written well. Loved Kate and Simon. Can’t wait to see how that relationship develops both personally and professionally. The rest of the team was also great. Colby I liked from the get go. The rest of the team came around. Lillian and Owen I could still use a bit more from. Rodney thought I definitely liked as a partner for her.
As far as the case itself… I guess I don’t get why when he was thinking of who could have had Leonard he didn’t think of his brother? Wouldn’t that be the easy first step? Especially since you just took his previous victim and he would likely take a new one?
I was also a little confused at the end there. They found the boy in the basement and she said it wasn’t Leonard. Then York steps up with a gun and once he’s down they go looking for Leonard in a box. I’m confused… was there 2 kids? They just left and continued to search the house in that next chapter?? I am either completely missing something or it makes no sense.

WOW. What a great start to the new series. Kate who is a police detective, starting in a new team is trying to fit in but when she starts looking into cold cses with lots in common with current cases, she stirs the pot at work. Simon is having dreams, missing his grandmother and decides to speak to the police and ends up the the new girl Kate. When their pasts come into play, trust is tested and ends up being the first steps in their relationship both personal first than public due to circumstances in current cases and what Simon has survived as a child. Old questions are answered but not how they think. Learning to trust and live again is the start of a good friendship and a relationship if they are willing to take somes chances. Love the background on the other players in this series and can not wait for the next book. Love this.
The subject matter in this book was difficult to get through. The way some of the more unsavory characters referred to children was especially difficult, knowing that people like this exist in reality.
I had listened to the Kate Morgan series with the exception of books 1&2. I'm glad I listened out of order because I think it would have been a while before I read the next book if this was the first book I had experienced.
That is not to say the book didn't hold my attention. I did appreciate that the author did not go into graphic detail with regard to the children's experiences. What was inferred or implied was more than enough.
Some of the twists in the final chapters of the book were unexpected. Some things were almost jaw dropping. The narration was decent. I will be moving on to book 2 and then waiting for the next Simon Says installment.
This book is the start of a good series. Kate is a newly appointed detective, and her first case involves child abuse. Simon is starting his journey of embracing his psychic awareness.
Simon was abused as a child, and the case ties in with abused and missing children for many years, including Simon's abuser.
This story does happen worldwide. Heartbreaking, horrific, pedophiles, and kidnapping.
Simon has visions (or nightmares from his perspective) and visits the police station to tell someone (he gets Kate) about what he is experiencing. Kate doesn't believe him.
Kate and Simon collaborate in their unique way, and with all the twists and turns and truths revealed of the abuse by so many in a huge network, they are astounded that one of the abusers is connected to the police department.
Dale Mayer has shown her writing ability as excellent with the first book in this series. Kate is a newly minted detective of three months thrown into the spot of a guy killed on the job. With the combination of the team's resentment and Kate's abrasive personality there is no bonding of the team and the new girl.
Kate's little brother was taken by a paedophile while she was watching him. Kate was seven years old. Kate keeps his file on her desk.
This was a difficult book to read because of the subject matter. Tears come to my eyes just writing this review. Dale handled the subject with just enough information and enough empathy to get the reader through the story. Surprise ending.
