This was a great little book. Expectations are mostly a set up for disappointment, anger, and frustration. This was a good study on how to decrease expectations. My biggest complaint is that I wish there were scholarly references. I bought this for a research project for my work with domestic violence and intimate harm.
Short book but very to the point I understand where the author is coming from. I’m going to read the book a second time but I am 100% on board to understand. We just need to move forward and not dillydally with a lot of things and just focus on ourselves.
The idea is intriguing and caught my intention. I find it difficult to think changing one word in a sentence can change my expectations. The 7 steps are generic and not something I think k many will apply to life and see big changes.
Dare I say it? First of all, the book was, well . . . better than expected!
The author’s argument about dismissing the need for expectations raises questions about the psychology of the human mind, which cannot be answered within the space of the book’s 50 pages. That said, The Power of Zero Expectations is well thought out and (as advertised) organized step by step. The book’s philosophy recalls certain Buddhist tenets, even if the vocabulary differs a bit. Replace “expectations” with ”human desires” or “attachments to this world,” nd you have something close to the Buddhist formula for achieving enlightenment – that is, ridding yourself of that which keeps you glued, emotionally and otherwise, to the world we live in. Satisfaction (almost) guaranteed.
