The Yoga Cycle summarizes the principles of Artzi-Padan’s approach and presents the reader with fascinating and eloquent chapters about the philosophy of yoga alongside chapters with practices, written in simplistic language that allows easy execution.
Israeli author Mira Artzi-Padan is the Founder of Yoga Nashit (Yoga For Women’s Health) and in that capacity she is yoga master and teaches/coaches yoga to a very large population of women and instructors. Her tutelage tasks include her service as a prenatal course instructor and lactation consultant. THE YOGA CYCLE is her first solo publication and is translated from the Hebrew by Dana Translators.
The door to this valuable health book opens with a sensitive personal moment – ‘I am a woman. I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, professional, career woman, student, tourist, practitioner, entrepreneur, who sometimes loves and sometimes really doesn’t, who tries, despairs, overcomes, folds endless laundry, cooks, hosts, is a guest, sends packages to soldiers, does homework, volunteers, runs to parent-teacher conferences, and who is sometimes also tired, sick and wants to run away. Without yoga, I would never cope.’ Within that spectrum are positions with which every woman can identify.
Within this guide for ‘keeping the ever changing female body health and fit,’ Mira offers a history of yoga, explaining how Yoga Nashit developed, and provides instruction on the various yoga positions (accompanied by excellent photographic demonstrations) and then provides a series of exercises for every part of the female body,
In addition to the facile yoga coaching, Mira discusses the menstrual cycle, the premenstrual syndrome, fertility, and menopause, adding how yoga can be incorporated into the aid of these syndromes. Her medical expertise is on topics such as endometriosis, migraines, polycystic ovaries, vaginismus, and vestibulitis is sound and well stated.
Clearly this is a book for women, and is a valuable contribution to physical, mental and spiritual health as a learned guide for a healthier life.
Yoga Nashit: Woman’s Health Through Yoga (AKA: The Yoga Cycle: Keeping The Ever Changing Female Body Healthy & Fit) — Mira Arts-Padan / Scientific Editing: Dr. Efrat Harari (Foreword + 15 titled chapters) Dec. 16-18, 2021
This book was not at all what I thought it would be about and that is A-OK. The book is about yoga for women and it covers the menstruation cycle. The historical facts are short and condensed and then it leads into how female bones, especially the pelvis is different than males, and why aches occur and how certain yoga positions help those area that cause the aches.
I always wondered why parts of my pelvis hurt and this did a very good job explaining the muscles involved in those hurts. I still needed to get a separate pelvic and muscle diagram to further understand it (there are diagrams of the pelvic bones in the book,) but the gist for condensed time is enough for most readers.
I throughly enjoyed that part of the book, but since I am post-menopause, I skimmed through the chapters and poses for menstruation cycles, fertility and miscarriage.
Also, there are some great poses in here for immediate relief for anxiety attacks, reducing stress, and strengthening the pelvic floor.
Also, it gets a little woo-woo which will turn some women off. The author admits this a few times, so perhaps not a good read for some.
There were two different titles for the same book. Also, some spelling/punctuation errors in my version (The Yoga Cycle….) An example: "There is no need for a very long practice Twenty minutes during a break at wok or ten minutes before bed…."
I wish I could have had the benefit of this book when I was younger and learning to accept my body and my power of being a woman. I have bought it for my daughter to help her navigate the ups and downs of womanhood. Excellent read
