Another book randomly pulled from my library's cozy shelf and another hit.
I love meeting Parker, Reid, Sage and even Liam. I was sad to see who was the murder victim and even sadder to see who the murderer was. Now to go back to volume 1.

Parker Valentine and her boyfriend Reid are planning a romantic Valentine’s weekend trip to a ski resort. Parker is hoping to take a few minutes to sell the resort on her mulled wine, and is star struck when the owner, Olympic gold medalist Annmarie Bauer, sits in on the meeting. But the next morning, Parker is nearby when Annmarie has a deadly skiing accident. Parker saw some things that make her question whether it was an accident or not, and as she begins poking around, strange things happen to her. Can she figure out what is really going on?

Having enjoyed the first two books in this series, I was looking forward to checking in with Parker again. I did feel that Parker’s motive for looking into this as much as she did was weak until late in the book and the plot relied a bit too much on events over investigation, but overall, this was a good mystery that kept me guessing until the end. Parker and Reid are joined by another couple, Parker’s brother Liam and her best friend Sage, who have recently started dating. These four characters are the core of the series to me, and I loved seeing how they developed here. As always, the books are written in first person present tense. I love how the author works in tidbits about wine making as metaphors for what Parker is going through. We get three delicious sounding recipes and suggested wine pairings at the end. Fans of the series will have fun with the newest in this series.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book.

There was a lot of gorgeous scenery described in the description of the luxury ski lodge and resort, accompanied by a snowy mountain backdrop in Mulled to Death, It sounded amazing. This series is really great. It's a good story with well-developed characters, especially Parker, the protagonist. The book has cast of characters with suspect motives, and a romance that will keep readers turning pages late into the night. And the wine tastes delicious too.

Thank you Berkley Books and Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was a honest review.

Another enjoyable book in the series. I have to admit I am usually not as happy with a book in a series that takes a road trip. We usually like the setting, secondary characters in a series and those are missing on the road. Even with Liam and Sage along it's not quite the same, and the death is a particularly hard one, made even harder by who did it in the end. Worth reading but not my favorite in the series.

Mulled to Death is book three in Kate Lansing's Colorado Wine Mystery series. It features Parker Valentine, who owns a premier winery in Boulder. Parker is taking a break and holidaying in the Colorado mountains on a skiing trip with her boyfriend Reid, her brother Liam and bezzie Sage. It will be a busman's holiday for Parker as she is promoting her Snowy Day Syrah mulled wine. But when Annmarie Bauer, the resort's owner has an accident on the ski slopes and dies, Parker begins her own investigation...

I found this a great read even though I haven't yet read the first books in the series. Parker is quick and resourceful and I found her to be a good protagonist, even if she's a little bit impetuous. The mystery was well done, packed as it was with action, turns, concealments and lashings of drama. I was confounded by the killer until the end which was a stonker! An intriguing tale with some fabulous characterisation.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Berkley via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Reading Mulled to Death brought back wonderful memories of my younger days when I used to ski, mostly in New England. The descriptions of the Silver Creek ski resort in Colorado were so beautiful and vivid. There were also a lot of descriptions of food (one of the main characters is a chef, so that’s not too surprising). The main character, Parker Valentine, is a winemaker and the author weaves in a lot of wine-related knowledge along the way. As far as the story goes, I thought Parker’s involvement was a bit far-fetched; she really should have left it to the local sheriff, but then it wouldn’t be a typical cozy mystery. Also, I got bored with the endless repetition of how handsome her boyfriend Reid is. It was a reasonably good story but I probably won’t be picking up any further books in this series.

Mulled To Death is the third book in the Colorado Wine Mystery series but the first one I’ve read. I think it was just fine to read without having read the other two books, although I’m sure the backstories of the main characters would have had even more depth.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

"Mulled to Death” by Kate Lansing the 3rd instalment in the “Colorado Wine Mystery” series. I really enjoy this series.
A Valentine's Day getaway is on the rocks when a young winemaker discovers a body at an alpine resort in this delightful cozy mystery.

I found myself engrossed in the story and reading it in a few days. It was entertaining, full of twists and turns as well as a few surprises.

I loved the characters which are well developed, especially Parker she makes a good protagonist. The secondary characters Reid, Sage, and Liam were likeable as well. I can’t wait to see what happens next, as the characters are really growing on me.

I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Berkeley Publishing and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the third book in the Colorado wine series. Parker and her brother go on a weekend vacation with their significant others for Valentines Day. While on their ski vacation, Parker tries to sell her mulled wine to the resort's owner. However, shortly after meeting with the resort owner, the owner is found murdered. Parker gets involved in the case and is determined to find out who the killer is. I really enjoy this series. The characters are interesting and enjoyable to read about. I liked the growth we saw with Parker's character in this book. I am looking forward to reading more.

Another great book in the series!! This was (and is) the perfect book for winter. The heavenly scenery of the cozy ski lodge, all the winter vibes & the romantic setting over Valentine’s Day weekend. I mean, I’d go skiing with Parker & Reid any day! The mystery was great, kept me on my toes and guessing what was going to happen all throughout. It was nice seeing Parker help solve the case with the local law enforcement. Even though I really enjoyed the mystery aspect, I did love the romance that was happening as well. Reid + Parker FOREVER.

Mulled to Death is the third book in the Colorado Wine Mystery series by author Kate Lansing. When I read the first book in the series I was instantly hooked, so when the publisher reached out to me with a widget on NetGalley to read this third book, I jumped at the chance. This was a very enjoyable read. It has a wonderful plot that moves along at a great pace. Parker Valentine is on a romantic Valentine's getaway with her boyfriend, her best friend, and her brother (who is dating the BF). The only problem - Valentine's Day is a sad day for Parker since the death of her aunt Laura, who used to make the day extraordinary for the women in her life. At least Parker thought that was the only problem. She just can't seem to get away from dead bodies, and this trip is no different.

I really enjoy the characters in this book and love the growth that Ms. Lansing has shown over the last three books. These are characters that are relatable and the reader will root for their success, both professionally and with their sleuthing. I like Parker as an amateur sleuth because she is very observant and intuitive. She also is not pushy when she gives help to the police. That said, she does have a strong sense of justice and doesn't always let things go easily, even when it's in her best interest or will keep her safe.

The mystery kept me guessing throughout the entire book and I will admit that the identity of the killer was a total surprise for me. The author provides her reader with clues that are dropped throughout the story and with each new clue it seems Parker finds herself in more trouble. However, in the end, justice and Parker prevail and the killer is caught.

As I said, I really enjoy this series and will continue to read new installments. I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy, provided to me by the publisher, Berkley, through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Mulled To Death is the third in the Colorado Wine Mystery series. I read and enjoyed the first two and was eager to read this one. Mulled To Death has the characters taking a little vacation mixed with business to a ski resort. Things turn grim when the owner of the resort is found dead on the slopes.

I did not enjoy this as much as the first two books. The setting was interesting and well described. I really got a sense of snow and cold. However as I've never been skiing I was not able to imagine the scenes describing the runs and where/how the victim was found.

The mystery itself wasn't all that interesting. Parker didn't have as much of a hand in investigating and it wasn't realistic when she did try. I was suspicious of several characters but their motivations or the root of their behavior wasn't quite believable. This includes how broken up Parker was. I also didn't find that the reader had much of a chance to guess the killer.

I did enjoy that Parker and even Reid were in danger at times although the scene with Parker in peril alone in her room was a little baffling in how she reacted and the aftermath.

I still love the characters and would have liked even more of her friend and brother. Most of the focus in the book was on Parker and Reid's relationship but I would have liked a little less. Hopefully in the next book when they return to Boulder and Vino Valentine the story can return to a more satisfying tale.

If you’re looking for a mystery with a snowy mountain setting, this is your book. I really enjoyed the first two books in the series, but it’s always fun to me when the characters from a series visit a new location. That was the case in Mulled to Death! There was so much gorgeous description of the upscale ski lodge and resort. The whole time I was reading it, I was wishing I could go there.

The mystery in this one was also good, however Parker takes it upon herself to launch a full investigate into the murder. I myself prefer a little more natural sleuthing. Especially when the main character does not have a strong connection to the deceased. But the ending was good and I really enjoyed the book! Cozy mysteries make s great escape!

MULLED TO DEATH is the third book in the Colorado Wine Mysteries by Kate Lansing. What could be better than a romantic mountain ski resort getaway with lots of mulled wine and delicious food? Not much… but the death of the resort owner puts a damper on the Valentine’s weekend celebration for the protagonist, winery owner Parker Valentine, and her boyfriend, Reid. The author’s strong descriptive voice pulled me in so that I felt the biting chill of the snow, the warmth of the roaring fire, and heard the chattering guests as they enjoyed the delectable dishes from the resort’s chef. Ms. Lansing also weaves in Parker’s winemaking skills and her reflections on wine without detracting from the plot. I enjoyed how she relates the tasting notes of individual wines to what’s happening in the story and how Parker feels about it. It’s obvious the author has done her research on wine and wine making and it adds to the enjoyment of the book. I also enjoyed that Parker’s brother, who is dating Parker’s best friend, are both included in the getaway. I loved the dynamics between the two couples.

The mystery is well-plotted and even though Parker might not have a strong reason for getting involved in the investigation, she manages to find out clues. The action is fast-paced, which kept me turning pages, wondering what would happen next. When Parker’s life is threatened—twice, it only adds to the tension and inspires Parker to pry into the lives of those who surrounded the victim and dig up the secrets they’d been hiding. The reveal came as a complete surprise to me, which adds to the entertainment value! While this is the first in the series I’ve read, it was easily read as a standalone and easy to get to know the characters. I’ll be picking up the other books to catch up with this delightful series.

The Colorado Wine Mysteries by Kate Lansing keep getting better. Grab a glass of your favorite wine (I prefer a crisp Sauvignon Blanc… although since this is a Valentine themed book, you may prefer a juicy, red Dornfelder…) and get to reading!

In this series what really shines for me is how well Lansing incorporates wine making and history into the story. Some cozies use the food or hobby as more of a gimmick to get readers to pick up their book, but you can tell Lansing really enjoys her subject matter.

Along with the fabulous wine and delicious food accompaniments (thanks to Parker’s love interest) we also get an insider’s view into Colorado’s cities and countryside. My husband and I love to vacation in Colorado, but if I had never been there before, Lansing’s books would definitely make me want to plan a trip.

Besides all the above mentioned wonderfulness, the reader also gets to enjoy well developed and complex characters… no one dimensional people here. And in Mulled to Death there were a couple of incidents that read more like a thriller than a cozy, which was a fun change of pace and really had my heart racing.

The Colorado Wine Mysteries is a cozy series I highly recommend!

Parker and Reid and Sage and Liam thought a Valentine ski trip would be just the thing to cheer up Parker and Liam after the death of their aunt AND that it might be a good opportunity to market her wine. That's before, once again, they find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation! Annemarie Bauer, a champion skier who owned the resort, is the victim but why? Cozy readers know that there's always more than one suspect and that there's more than one face to the victim. This group of four millennials (or are they Gen Z?) is very up to date on social media but also quite canny about how to nose out the bad guy. I liked that they were in a new setting. Fans of the series will be pleased that the resort has a cat but those who haven't read it will be fine- there's good back story. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a fun read and I'm eager to know what this group of pals will get up to next.

This was another fun book in Kate Lansing's Colorado Wine Mystery series. This time, we went on a road trip with Parker Valentine and friends to a Colorado ski resort, where a former Olympic skier and resort owner is found dead on a ski trail. At first, it seems like a tragic accident, but Parker soon discovers the resort owner was murdered. There are plenty of suspects and red herrings to keep things interesting. But my favorite part is how well Kate weaves in information about the winemaking process so seamlessly into the story. Cozy readers will love this series!

How does a nice glass of wine sound? How about mulled wine, sweetened with honey and seasoned with the perfect blend of winter spices? Maybe a change of scenery? How about drinking this delicious mulled wine at a fancy ski lodge in a cozy little village tucked away in the mountains of Colorado? Oh, and let's get snowed in while we're there!

I LOVE mysteries where the main character travels and this was basically the perfect little vacation destination. Unfortunately the idyllic Valentine's Day getaway that Parker and Reid had planned, along with her best friend Sage and brother Liam, was marred by murder. No worries, Parker is on the case! After hearing the fatal incident and suspecting foul play, Parker uses her and Reid's connections to interview witnesses and track down clues. There are as many suspects as chairs on a ski lift and they move around almost as much!

Throughout the course of this book we see Parker's relationship with Reid continue to develop and we see Parker finally making her way down the mountain of grief she's been experiencing since the death of her beloved Aunt Laura. I think Aunt Laura would be proud of her progress. As a lover of wine and cozy mysteries I've enjoyed this series immensely and look forward to seeing Parker back at Vino Valentine.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

I always enjoy the setting on these mysteries and this was no exception but instead of being in Parker's cute wine shop in Denver we got to visit a ski resort owned by a former Olympian. Kate Lansing has an amazing way of always bringing in wine facts and tying them into what's happening in the story and I always feel like I'm learning more about the wine making process. The mystery was well written but a little annoying because there was no reason that Parker should have been involved, asking questions, or why people should be answering them. Still, it was nice to see Parker and Reid's relationship progress as well as Sage and Liam's. Looking forward to the next.

Another spine-tingling installment in the Colorado Wine Mystery Series!

Set at a scenic ski chalet, Mulled to Death is the definition of a cozy mystery. The isolated, snowy setting, suspicious cast of characters, and swoony romance will have readers flipping the pages late into the night.

Parker and her boyfriend Reid take a romantic getaway to a local ski resort, which Parker's trying to convince to carry her wine. But when the resort's owner turns up dead, not only does Parker find her business once again on thin ice, but she might be in danger of losing her own life.

A cute cozy that takes place in a ski resort in Colorado. I really liked the ski resort atmosphere and how it took a break from the wine making that was heavily focused on in the first 2 novels.

Didn't love how vague the details were. It was hard to picture the murder taking place on a different ski run and some of the details were unbelievable (main character was keeping the same ski pace as an Olympic skier going down the mountain).

Mulled to Death, the third book in the Colorado Wine Mystery Series, takes readers away from its established Boulder setting to a luxurious ski resort where murder and misadventure threaten to ruin Valentine’s Day Weekend. Author Kate Lansing delivers an action packed, intriguing cozy tale.

Winemaker Parker and her chef boyfriend Reid, along with her brother and best friend, get away for the weekend at the Silver Creek Ski Resort. Its pristine snowy setting is beautiful, but Parker is having a hard time since the Valentine holiday makes her miss her deceased aunt even more than unusual. At least she has the opportunity to pitch her mulled wine to the wine director of the resort Akira while she is there. Things look promising until the resort’s owner, Olympic champion Annamarie Bauer dies in an apparent skiing accident. But, Parker thinks it was more than a mere accident and investigates. She must be on the right track because the “accidents” she is having are getting more and more dangerous.

I enjoy the premise of this series, and there is just the right amount of wine tidbits sprinkled throughout to make the winemaking theme compelling but not so many that a non-drinker would lose interest. Parker is an interesting protagonist, observant and a good problem solver but quite relatable with insecurities that most of us experience as we go about life. Reid, Liam, and Sage are all fun to hang out with, and their relationships with Parker are the heart of the book.

The variety of characters central to the murder mystery is entertaining, even the often unpleasant one like resort manager Paisley. Reid worked at the resort at one time, and his familiarity with several of the employees helps readers get to know the new characters quickly. I hope that Akira appears in future books in the series. Even though Annamarie dies early in the story, readers learn a lot about her from Parker’s chats with her suspects. There are plenty of clues sprinkled throughout the story, but I did not figure out the killer’s identity before the very Hercule Poirot style reveal.

As always with this series, my only quibble is that it is written in present tense. It is not my favorite, but I seemed to acclimate better here than in previous books in the series. Mulled to Death is a fun, engaging read sure to please any cozy mystery fan.

I love Mulled to Death as it was like being on a vacation in the Colorado mountains in winter at a luxury hotel, aside from murder, of course. Winter Park, Vail, Steamboat Springs, Breckinridge, Copper Mountain……..they’re all so extraordinary!

Mountain snow is just beautiful (even if though I don’t ski or snowboard) because there are many other outdoor activities which are covered creatively. Indoors, there are scenes with rustic pine yet opulent decor, soft, warm clothes, comforting food, tasty wine, and a hunky boyfriend to bring the heat. I definitely want to try some “jammy” wine, rosemary roasted nuts, and mull some wine.

I imagined Lindsay Vonn as the Olympic skier which was not a stretch, of course. I also remember when the environmentalists protested years ago.

I liked that Colorado-based musical acts were mentioned, and I would add, The Sweet Lillies—2 women and a guy—Wonderfully energetic, fun Bluegrass string players who I have seen a few times in Steamboat and Denver. They tour a lot around Colorado and beyond. Check them out.

Oh, and by the way, IMHO, Tom Baker was the BEST Doctor Who. My husband is a fan from the original 70’s PBS-airing series and we watched many an episode on the little black and white tv in my parents’ rec room. No offense to the brilliant David Tennant or Matt Smith (who will always be young Prince Philip to me). Jodie Whittaker is just great too. I just love all British performers.

What do you do when you go on a Valentine's Day weekend getaway and the owner of the ski lodge ends up dead? Parker Valentine goes on a Valentine's Day weekend with her boyfriend, brother and best friend. What was supposed to be a fun weekend getaway turns into tragedy when the owner of the ski lodge winds up dead. Being the sleuth she is, Parker starts to dig trying to find out what really happened but finds herself becoming the next target. Can she find out who's behind it all before it's too late?
Thank you Netgalley, Kate Lansing and Berkley Publishing Group for the opportunity to read and review this book. This is a part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. Though this was the first book I've read in the series, I really enjoyed it. I liked the characters though I'm sure if I had read the first two books in the series I would have gotten a better sense of character development. The writing seemed to flow with a good storyline. This was an easy to read entertaining book. If you enjoy cozy mystery, try giving this series a whirl. I'm rating this ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book 3 in the Colorado Wine Mystery series takes us on a snowy adventure. Parker is pitching her mulled wine to a new possible customer at a nearby ski resort. Reid, Sage and Liam decide to tag along and turn this trip into a fun Valentine’s getaway. I loved this change of scenery and all of the descriptions made me very nostalgic. While I’ve never been skiing in Colorado, we use to always go on Winter getaways to various resorts across New Mexico. I could easily imagine the anticipation of studying the trail map, selecting your run, hearing the clip of your boot into the equipment, the crunch of fresh snow and the excitement of going on the chair lift.

After witnessing a fatal incident on the slopes, Parker can’t help but get involve in yet another case. This mystery was so good. It kept me guessing and being highly suspicious of all of the resort’s employees. The culprit tried to scare Parker off several times with some pretty suspenseful moments. I enjoyed all of the extra actions!! There’s a cute side story about items being swiped from guest’s rooms too. I definitely smiled when that was resolved.

This book provided some great character growth for Parker. She not only overcame some grief, but progressed her relationship with Reid. They seriously are a cute couple. Fingers crossed we hear about book 4 soon. Maybe it will be a story about the rockstar Liam just booked!!

Several recipes are included.

Series Background: This is book 3 in the Colorado Wine Mysteries featuring Parker, owner of the wine shop Vino Valentine I’m Boulder, CO.

In short: Parker and crew head to a resort for a Valentine getaway, pitch for a contract to carry Parker’s wine, find a dead body on the ski slopes and investigate the murder.

My thoughts: A strong addition to this series! I liked that they left the normal setting for a getaway. The descriptions of the resort, the mountains and ski hill made me feel like I was there. Mix in a Murder mystery with many clues and twists, this was an enjoyable read.

One thing I love about cozy mysteries is that you often care more about the people and their relationships than the actual murder mystery. Mulled to Death loved up to that, especially the evolving relationship with Parker and Reid.

Author Kate Lansing is the reason I fell in love with cozy mysteries–– and she doesn’t disappoint in this third installment of the Colorado Wine Mysteries. Parker and Reid are such lovable characters, the descriptions of the ski resort take you right to the mountains, and the mystery keeps you guessing. I highly suggest curling up next to the fireplace–this book in one hand, and a glass of mulled one in the another! A perfect (and fun) winter escape.

Thanks to the publisher, via Netgalley, for an advance e-galley for honest review.

In book 3 of this series, we venture outside of Boulder to a ski resort, and while I sometimes get nervous when a cozy series take us outside the community we've grown to love, this adventure was worth the journey. Because we weren't accompanying Parker as she made wine or led tastings (except for the titular mulled wine), this one gave room for character development and a still interesting mystery. This continues to be a fun series, and I'm looking forward to more.
