This is truly a bittersweet story which I thoroughly enjoyed. I've read a few of Sky Purington's books and now I want to read even more. Love the way this author writes her stories.
Tavish and Nessa are from enemy clans but that doesn't stop them from falling in love and meeting a couple times a year in secret. After a few years, Tavish realizes their arrangement is not fair for Nessa and he lets her go by lying about his love for her. Now they are meeting once again but this time it's for him to escort her to her betrothed. My heart absolutely ached for them!! I loved the meaning of the rings on Tavish's sword, it's so much a part of their story.
This is a well written novella which grabbed my interest all the way through. A bit of a twist at then end had me smiling from ear to ear:)

This is my first read of Sky Purington's and it was delightful. It's a beautiful tale of stolen moments and forbidden love. It's also full of humour and lightness. I found the description of Nessa decorating with boughs of holly, and the reasons for Tavish's rings on his sword hilt, completely charming details.
Tavish and Nessa are so very deeply in love but their clans are enemies so they must keep their love a secret. Realising that he is denying Nessa a true life with a husband and a family, Tavish ends their love affair leaving Nessa believing he no longer loves her.
A few months later Nessa is betrothed to another man and Tavish must see Nessa to the safety of her new life. Tavish's heart may be breaking and their clans reconciled but he will not ask Nessa to break her vow.
Despite still being love with Tavish, Nessa would never break off her betrothal it is her duty and must come before everything, including true love.
As they journey together it becomes harder for them to deny their true feelings but neither will put their own happiness above clan duty. Overall it's a strong, bittersweet read.

This was part of the TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN THE HIGHLANDER'S ARMS.
Such an emotional journey this author took me on. I'm familiar with her stories and always enjoy them. This had so much twists and turns I didn't know what to aspect as the story moved along.
Both the H/h kept certain things to themselves. I'm not a fan of secrets, but in this you understand why they each did it. They are both honorable to a fault and that caused more heartache for each.
The secondary character's added to the story too.
Lovemaking described within marriage - heat level barely 4 out of 5. They made love outside marriage, but off page. You will feel a connection to this couple, so filled with love.
No cheating, HEA, romance you felt and some steam. (ljb)

Four years go past whilst they meet in secret, only for Tavish to break things off brutally. Now that their clans are reunited in peace, but he and Nessa are as far a part as ever because she is betrothed to another man. What happens next...
