Layla has dreamed of becoming a professional jockey for as long as she can remember. And seriously, how hard can it be? Ambitious Layla has left behind her successful corporate career in the City to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a jockey. While she has enthusiasm – and naivety – in abundance, she has not sat on a horse since the school holidays spent roaming the countryside on her childhood pony. She quickly learns the hard way that galloping fully-fit racehorses is not anywhere near as easy as how the professionals make it look. Dismissed from her new job on her very first day, can Layla ever stand a chance at earning it back, and earning the respect of her colleagues and peers? But most importantly to Layla, can she mellow the heart of her cold and mysterious, too-tall-to-be-a-jockey mentor, Kurt? It’ll be a steep learning curve, least of all the events that throw the future of the whole yard into jeopardy. But with unbridled determination, can Layla’s wild dream ever become a reality?
It’s so refreshing to read a story set in the world of horse racing where the girl with aspirations to become a jockey isn’t a great natural talent who experiences instant success. The cute romance makes for a fun but heart-felt read.
