Andrea Carter and the Dangerous Decision

Rate this book
In this sequel to "Andrea Carter and the Long Ride Home," Andi nearly tramples her new teacher in a reckless, impromptu horse race down the main street of Fresno--not a good way to begin the school term. Then between the teacher's irritating daughter and an escaped convict that rushes into the schoolroom, Andi shows her true character--and discovers the true meaning for the Golden Rule.

Andrea Carter and the Dangerous Decision by Susan K. Marlow is the second book in the Circle C Adventures series.

I definitely enjoyed this book more than the first one! The plot was exciting and fast-paced. It definitely held my attention. I remember when I was younger and I read this book for the first time I COULD NOT put it down.

I liked seeing more of Andi's brother Justin (although Mitch is my personal favorite brother).
I actually did find myself siding with Mr. Foster a lot of the time, though . . . I could actually see why he would hold a grudge against Andi for almost killing him. And her behavior WAS reckless. I do not think the punishments were unfair.
Virginia was a brat, though, except for at the end. I wish we could see more of Virginia in the later books of this series.

Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. 4.5 stars out of 5.

This is one of my favourite books in the Andrea Carter series! I love the climaxes (Mrs. Marlow combines many of them, so you never have a dull moment!)!!!! From dealing with an irritated teacher, to being abducted from school, to having to "re-meet" her family, as well as facing her fears, Andrea Carter will endear herself to your heart!
These are books that I hope to share with toddlers that I know (when they get a little older!), and have recommended and shared with some friends! They have a special place on my "horsey" bookshelf in my room, and will remain there a good while yet!
Read this book, and find out why I love it so much!

Audiobook: I enjoyed the second book as much as the first book in the series. I felt for Andrea as her initial meeting with the new schoolteacher did not go well. I was amused by some of the events which caused more strife between Andrea and her teacher, in spite of Andi's good intentions. I waited with bated breath to find out what would happen when the fugitive took over the schoolroom. I was amazed by Andi's courage and fortitude. I appreciated the theme which underscored this story. I thought listening to Annette Romano's narration was enjoyable. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

A very breezy read, Dangerous Decision frustrated older me much more than younger me, but still managed to be a good, solid read. Now that I think about it, honestly most of my lower-than-expected ratings on these books has to do with the fact that the series, as it goes on, becomes quite repetitive (especially when Beginnings, Steppingstones, and Milestones are factored in) in that Andi is perpetually stupid and regularly kidnapped. If you can get past that, these books are quite good.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Circle C Adventures but in my opinion, this one was even better. I loved the strong character traits Andi portrays throughout the book. I was always eager to read on to find out what was going to happen next and the ending didn’t disappoint. Can’t wait to continue on with the series!

Number of pages: 139

Genre: Historical Fiction

Series: Circle C. Adventures #2

Age recommendation: 10-13 years

Summary: Almost running over the new teacher, Mr. Foster, was not how Andi was planning to start her school year. Things just went downhill from there. Pet snakes in her desk, playing ball with the boys and taking his daughter for a ride on Pal doesn’t do anything to change Mr. Foster’s opinion of her. But when a convicted criminal escapes from jail and comes to the schoolhouse, can Andi make the difficult choice and change her teacher’s bad impression of her once and for all?

My thoughts: This is my favourite Andi book of all time. Jed is the best bad guy (and one of my favourite characters). I also really like Chad in this book, especially when he saves Andi from getting a thrashing. That’s what older brothers are supposed to do.
I admire Andi’s courage in this book to help Virginia even when she was nasty to Andi. I really don’t like Virginia. She is the definition of an obnoxious, self-centered, demanding child.
Content warning:
There’s not a whole lot of Christian content, but Andi does pray a few times and is encouraged to turn to God with her troubles. Overall, it is a pretty short read, but a really good book for preteens.

My personal rating: 4.5/5 stars.

Well, I'm jealous! I wish Susan Marlow had written about Andi Carter and her palomino Taffy a lot sooner. ANDREA CARTER AND THE DANGEROUS DECISION takes us back to the heyday of children's books. The setting lets you take an authentic look at frontier California in the 1880's. Andi lives on the Circle C ranch, and there are plenty of horses (even wild ones) to hold the reader's attention. The promise of more Circle C Adventures to come in this series takes me back to when I could hardly wait to see what happened to my book friends in the next installment.

Many series have come down the pike since I was a kid. Marlow's mixes all the elements that I found so enticing, but thank goodness ANDREA CARTER doesn't stop there. There are genuine plot twists, and Andi and her friends are so real that you can see them talking. The bonus is that Andi knows the Lord and depends on Him when she volunteers to go with an escaped convict as a hostage. No easy answers mar the story. Andi is a real girl with real problems, one that readers will welcome as a friend. And yes, I'm looking forward to the next book! Hurry, Andi!

Other Circle C Adventures you will enjoy:

Andrea Carter and the Long Ride Home (Circle C Adventures #1)

Andrea Carter and the Family Secret (Circle C Adventures #3)

Andrea Carter and the San Francisco Smugglers (Circle C Adventures #4)

Susan K. Marlow is an absolutely genius writer! There are few authors I find as engaging in their writings. Most books you have to patiently get through the boring parts to get to the good stuff. In her Circle C Adventures there is no such part. Every single part is interesting and quick paced. She writes so much adventure in such a small book yet makes it followable. I have always been impressed with her work in the Circle C Adventures. I started reading this series around 2018 and I have never gotten tired of it. Wait a few years and reread the series again. Never gets old!

I loved this book. I was very involved in the content of this book, and there was a lot of intensity to it. I hope the next four books are just the same.
