The second Harry Potter Book from Hermione’s point of view.
Behind every "boy who lives" is a "girl who reads." Everyone knows the story of Harry Potter, the boy who lived, but what they don't know is that Hermione Granger is the only reason he continued to live past his 11th year. During their second year at Hogwarts, Hermione Granger is being hunted by a monster so terrifying, no one knows what it is... Hermione is smart enough to figure it out, but are her friends smart enough to realize what she holds in her hands?
Absolutely phenomenal! This book was stellar and improved upon the first book (Hermione Granger and the Philosophers Stone) in almost every way.
In the previous books I had complaints that Hermione didn't get enough focus even though the book was supposed to be about her. However, this book is drastically different than the original because Hermione is a petrified student and she's the one who eventually solves the clues.
We get to see firsthand Hermione's genius as she fits together the clues and goes above and beyond every other witch or wizard. I love how she creates a list of pureblood wizards and crosses them out systematically. I thought that was a great addition and a very Hermione-like thing to do.
I also loved how a good portion of the book is about her internal struggle with being a muggle-born witch and how she's at more of a danger than other students.
Another good aspect was seeing the mystery from a different side. In Harry's perspective we see the disembodied voice and are as confused as him. But Hermione is a regular student who sees Harry talking to snakes and isn't hearing voices in the wall, so it's like you're seeing it from a different side.
Aside from that, the book had a few minor editing issues. An example is how the author spelled "Creevey" as "Creevery" for Colin's character. The real name in the book is Creevey but I guess the author thought there was an extra R at the end. It's not a big deal but it's a little weird and you can tell which parts she copied from the books and which parts she wrote herself based on whether the R is present in his last name.
Another briljant Hermoine Granger book! I loved SaraSmile416's Hermoine Granger and the Philosopher's Stone and this rendition of Hermoine Granger and the Chamber of Secrets did not disappoint. I was very curious how the petrified chapters would be handled. All I can say is, I enjoyed the creativity in them. I will definitely keep reading the Hermoine Granger books SaraSmile416 writes.
another fun re-telling! i enjoyed how the author “recapped” situations where hermione wasn’t present during the “action” of the book. i’m looking forward to starting the new one.
I'm happy I gave this whole thing another chance. It was loads better than the first book. A lot more than just Harry's big scenarios from Hermione's view...she had a lot happening on her own. There were still some things off and parts where it was kinda boring but I see it getting better so I'm here for the next book as well!
I really enjoyed this - definitely an improvement from the first. I love the HP books and Hermione is definitely an interesting enough character to have her own viewpoint portrayed on paper. I was thinking about which other character might have their own book and couldn't decide on one. I hope HP is retold in some way or form over the years.
It’s fanfic retelling the HP books plot-aligned but from Hermione’s perspective. I wouldn’t actually recommend it, but oof if a bit of cosiness didn’t hit the spot for me this weekend. Thank you Sara for following up on a drunken dare 🤣
These books are so good! Sara Baines-Miller does such an amazing job writing them. It is extremely cleaver and I can’t wait to start Hermione Granger and the Prisoner of Azkaban!
