Maurice had no formal art training, but achieves the realism and detail in his beautiful artwork by spending hours in the field, observing, sketching, and studying his subjects in their natural environment and is an internationally acclaimed artist known for his realistic and detailed illustrations of animals and wildlife. Maurice Pledger first published at age 17, and has since had his illustrations featured on greeting cards, prints, gifts, and books. He has created several successful series, including 'Sounds of the Wild', 'Peek-and-Find', 'Nature Trails', and 'Pledger Sticker Books'. He exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from 29 Fore Street, Ipswich in 1979, two paintings 'Teal' and 'Shellduck' and in 1992 was the recipient of the 1992 Francis Williams Illustration Award for the Best Descriptive Illustration, which honour is given only once every 5 years by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He married at Broxbourne, Hertfordshire in 1978, Pietra Provenzano and lives at Hoddeston, Hertfordshire.
A beautiful touch-and-feel book with very fine illustrations and realistic textures, i.e., fluffy wolf tail and soft mouse tummy. The large format and sturdy pages are suitable for babies. Much more durable and better-designed than the other commercial touch-and-feel books, such as the "That's Not My..." series. The text incorporates more advanced vocabulary and counting concepts. The book can be re-read and enjoyed by toddlers.
