This is a Christmas/Halloween Cozy Mystery, and this is the second book in the Mrs. Claus series. I have not read the first book in this series. I love that this book as both Christmas and Halloween in it. I have to say I really love the characters in this book, and I think this book is so cute. I did not see the twist before it was revealed, and I also think the mystery parts where super good. I love the reindeer cookie part of this book, and I think it is so funny. Mrs. Claus is trying to get use to being Mrs. Claus and being in North Pole, and she gets put into some trouble through out this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington Publishing Corporation) or author (Liz Ireland) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide by Liz Ireland is the second book in the cozy Mrs. Claus series. As with most cozy mystery series each book in the Mrs. Claus series features it’s own mystery that will be fully solved with that book so they can each be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so. There will be some character development that carries over from book to book though for those that follow the series from the beginning.
April Claus was just a regular woman living in the United States when she met Nick, the man she just knew she’d be spending the rest of her life with. What April didn’t know or suspect at the time was that the wonderful Nick she was going to marry was none other than THE Santa Claus. After marrying Nick April found herself moving to Christmastown in Santaland at the North Pole and living among elves with Christmas celebrated year round.
Christmastown has always been a one holiday town but April is glad to see the residents accepting that this year they will also be celebrating Halloween. Well, most of the residents have accepted the new celebration, not all the elves are happy. No one was expecting the series of random mischief though, especially not April who ended up involved in a funicular accident. As April begins to investigate the accident though Tiny Sparkletoe is found dead so April again finds herself teamed up with Jake Frost trying to catch a killer.
My first time around reading the Mrs. Claus series I was expecting the lead to be more like the image of a merry Mrs. Claus so it took a while to connect to the “regular” person lead. This time already knowing April and Christmastown I was able to dive right in to the Christmassy fun… er Halloween fun? It was a cute idea to bring another holiday to the small town and I love how everything Christmas or wintery gets incorporated into the story. This one is definitely for those that love a cozy mystery with a quirky and humorous side to them which is what I seek to find and love in them. I will definitely be back for a book three if there will be one in the future.

I wish to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for this delightful cozy mystery in return for an honest review. The author, Liz Ireland, has created a vivid, colourful, fully realized fantasy world. The descriptions of dwellings, clothing, names of places and imaginative names of the quirky characters all contribute to building the setting and engages the reader in its joyous festive spirit. This works as a standalone, but I now want to read the previous book to learn more about its unusual characters.
April Claus is a regular woman from Oregon who married Nick Claus, unaware that he was the real Santa. She moved with him to the quaint, picturesque town of Christmastown located in snowy Santaland at the North Pole. The community dwellers are employed in making and delivering toys to the world's children. A joyous Christmas spirit prevails and is celebrated 365 days a year. Characters include the Claus family, whimsical elves, snowmen, talking reindeer, and a psychotic boyfriend.
Remembering traditions from her home state, Mrs. Claus wants to add Halloween to festivities in Santaland. She teaches the community about carving Jack O'Lanterns, trick or treating, designing costumes, and watching scary movies. Some of the elves are delighted, enthusiastically crafting Halloween decorations, whereas others are opposed to any changes. The first sign of trouble is noted in the village greenhouse, where pumpkins were grown to replace turnips. The place was vandalized, and the pumpkins smashed to bits. Police Constable Crinkles has been called in to deal with the destruction but is unwilling or unable to investigate the crime attributed to the Pumpkin Slayer. Ms. Claus feels she is a better sleuth and more able to solve the vandalism than the police officer. Santa Claus recruits Jack Frost to help his wife with the mystery. There are threats and Mrs. Claus fears that her life and the lives of others may be endangered. This is confirmed when Tiny Sparkletoe, a prominent protester against the introduction of Halloween, is found crushed to death under a giant footprint.
Now, Mrs. Claus must wonder if the trouble and dissent are caused by the Pumpkin Slayer or what is now called the Abominable Snow Monster. Despite the fantastic element, the investigation is well-plotted with twists to keep the reader engaged and guessing. Recommended for those that want to escape our troubled times into an enjoyable mystery set in magical Santaland.

April Claus is beginning her second year as the North Pole’s new Mrs. Claus, and she’s decided it would be fun to introduce Halloween to the residents of Santaland. Unfortunately, not everyone is on board, as evidenced by the threatening messages someone is leaving and the attack on the pumpkins one of the elves is growing. However, when things escalate to murder, April takes matters into her own hands to try to figure out what is going on. Can she keep the holiday from being ruined for everyone?
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so I was anxious to return to the world that author Liz Ireland is creating. This book was fabulous as well. The murder takes place a little later in the story, but there is plenty going on to keep us entertained, and it only gets stronger as it goes along. The climax is wonderful. I did think there was a timeline issue at one point, but I think the fault is just a scene that is written unclearly. The little details of the world are guaranteed to make you smile; I just love them! While not all the characters are human, they are all completely real and we come to care for them quickly, which is key to getting us to believe in this world. If you are looking for a cozy mystery with a dash of fantasy, you’ll love this book.

The reader soon meets the star of the show, April Claus, who runs a B&B in Oregon. In this novel, it's the first-ever celebration in Christmastown of Halloween. Recently married to Nick, April discovers that not everyone is happy about the festivities as someone wrecks the pumpkin patch. Then an elf, Tiny Sparkletoe, is found dead...
I thought this was a highly entertaining, really solid continuation of the series. I reconfirmed my enjoyment of Liz Ireland's admirable characterisation of April who's rather scatterbrained. April stepped in to do some investigating herself, aiding Detective Jake Frost. She was also kept busy trying to keep up with her other duties as Mrs Claus.
Suspects and clues were in plentiful supply and I was totally engaged in this magical tale for its entirety. With no let-up in the fast-paced plot, the author masterfully interwove intoxicating descriptions of the setting. This was so expertly done that I could readily imagine and sense all that protagonist April did, completely bringing the setting to life. There was Christmas cheer, as well as Halloween shenanigans all with oodles of humour, puns and wit. Liz Ireland's writing captured my complete attention and I didn't put this one down. The book was such a fun read and I was on a merry-go-round of doubt as I puzzled over the mystery.
All in all, Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide is a top-notch novel. I will certainly be returning to see what April is getting herself into next! Very highly recommended.

If you are in the mood for a book that can keep a smile on your face this one does it!!
When April Claus decides to Bring Halloween to Stantaland, she was not prepared for what is going to take place. psychotic boyfriends, pumpkin slayers and even the Elves that are supposed to be merry are being very naughty.
This book was a wonderful read and enjoyable till the end. Liz Ireland knows how to weave great characters and bring you a story that you don’t want to put down!!

It takes a fantastic writer to be able to combine genres, but Liz Ireland, once again, shows that she is that writer. Not only did she combine the genres of a cozy mystery and fantasy, but she also combined the holidays of Christmas and Halloween… now that takes real talent!
In Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide, the second in the Mrs. Claus Mysteries, Ireland brings back the well developed characters from book one and gives us even more in book two. The reader also gets more details of Santa’s Village combined with the fun and festive Halloween decorations and new traditions. There are humorous moments found throughout the book because of the combining of genres and holidays, and I thought the way Ireland imagined how the elves would celebrate Halloween was perfect. Only an elf would take a suggestion made in passing many months previously and learn how to grow numerous different types of pumpkins!
The mystery itself had lots of suspects and I really enjoyed the final outcome of whodunnit, since it was a nice change. I’m already looking forward to book three and can’t wait to see if April’s friend from the states comes for a visit and how she’ll take finding out that not only is Santa real, but her friend is married to him.

This was a good mystery. Where this lost points for me is that it’s overly cutesy, but it has to be because the Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and all the elves & reindeer are involved. The world building is well done and I could picture the adorable Santa’s Village, Christmastown, with Halloween decorations thrown over it. The mystery kept me guessing but I just couldn’t get into it. It’s just not my thing.

When I read the first book in the “A Mrs. Claus Mystery” series, I had issues with it, and I was skeptical about reading book two, Mrs. Claus and The Halloween Homicide. However, I have to say that I enjoyed this new addition much more than I thought I would. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Halloween is my favorite holiday, and there was plenty of drama with the elves and spooky decorations to smile about, but also, the mystery itself was very intriguing and held my attention.
April is an interesting character. She certainly isn’t anyone’s idea of a traditional Mrs. Claus. She has her own ideas about Christmas and celebrating holidays; she is never on time, can’t keep out of trouble, and isn’t the jolly, happy Mrs. Santa Claus we have all come to think of. But she does have her good points, and they shine in this story. Other characters have a lot to offer, and the friendships that have begun to develop, even with April’s in-laws, are becoming quite fascinating. I would like to see more of April’s family and friends involved in this series, and from what I read in this installment, it looks like that will happen soon.

In what appears to be a snow monster attack, a somewhat contentious elf, Tiny Sparkletoe, is killed, but the evidence isn’t adding up for April. Suspects range from business competitors to relatives to people within the Claus household. Tiny was not what he seemed. After an accident, while investigating, it becomes obvious that April might be the killer’s next victim. As Halloween approaches, April moves in on the killer and finds herself in danger of ruining not only Halloween but Christmas. With help from friends and family, Mrs. Claus unravels the clues and reveals a killer, and another side of Santaland no one knew existed.
Mrs. Claus and The Halloween Homicide is a heartwarming story with a twisted sense of holiday cheer, fun for all. The action is great, the location couldn’t be better, and the characters are developing into comfortable friends. It isn’t every day readers get to spend a holiday with angry elves, drunk reindeer, crazed snow monsters, and a family that has just as many problems as anyone else. This is a must-read for fans of holiday cozies and Halloween stories.

"Mrs. clause and the Halloween Homicide (A Mrs. Clause Mystery #2)" by Liz Ireland is a cozy mystery take on if Santa's world in the North Pole did Halloween for the first time plus add in a couple of cozy mysteries. There were a few things going on in this book, crime wise. Also, we got more of the townspeople and elves than the Clause family in this one.
First off, we have someone trying to ruin the first celebration of Halloween at the North Pole. Then the suspect for that vandalism is found squished in an abominable's footprint. Seems a big convenient. All while April is trying to save her friendship with Juniper over April's mistrust of Juniper's boyfriend.

Mrs Claus brings Halloween to Christmastown and not everyone is happy about it. But is someone so unhappy they’d try to kill Mrs Claus? Just when April thinks she has figured out who has it I for her and Halloween the elf is found dead and it looks like an abominable snow monster did it.
Now Christmastown is preparing for a battle with the monsters, celebrating Halloween, and trying to solve a murder all while preparing for Christmas. Can Mrs Claus solve the murder and Halloween, or will she be carved up like a pumpkin and left to rot?

This is the second book in the series but my first one. When I saw the title I didn’t know what to expect but I was intrigued. April is definitely not your typical Mrs. Claus but she is definitely an interesting protagonist. My story was entertaining and well-written. The mystery is full of twists and turns and surprises. I am definitely going to read more in the series.

A fun book with a pretty good mystery. This is a type of book that defies the normal conventions of what genre it is so that might be a present surprise to some and other may be disappointed. It can’t be called a conventional cozy because we are dealing with Mrs. Claus here—as in Santa’s wife—and the North Pole populated with elves, smart reindeer and a thriving community are based on producing and delivery toys to kids on Christmas morning. At the same time it isn’t a conventional paranormal cozy either. Magic isn’t used by characters and it isn’t involved with the crime either. The only magic is in the existence of…everything in the North Pole.
So, Mrs. Claus, a native of Oregon, has decided to bring Halloween to town. Not everyone is thrilled with that and some destruction follows. But the real problem is when one of the main opposition against Halloween is found dead…stepped on by a snow monster. Is it murder? There are plenty of suspects because the man was not liked. Or is there an uncontrollable snow monster out there? Mrs. Claus needs to find out before fear and chaos ruin Christmas.
There are some definite funny moments. Reindeers and cookies have hilarious results. While some characters we know from stories, movies, tv, etc. the writer has given them her own unique spin and new characters are more than just thin outlines. At times, April was a little annoying, particularly when she just blurted out her newest suspect without any real proof, just circumstantial evidence. With no surprise, things turn ugly when April accuses her best friend’s boyfriend.
An enjoyable read and a nice break from the sweltering hot summer to imagine life in the North Pole. I enjoyed it enough to immediately go out and read the first one (you don’t need to the first one to understand this one).

So, Mrs. Claus, a native of Oregon, has decided to bring Halloween to town. Not everyone is thrilled with that and some destruction follows. But the real problem is when one of the main opposition against Halloween is found dead…stepped on by a snow monster. Is it murder? There are plenty of suspects because the man was not liked. Or is there an uncontrollable snow monster out there? Mrs. Claus needs to find out before fear and chaos ruin Christmas.
There are some definite funny moments. Reindeers and cookies have hilarious results. While some characters we know from stories, movies, tv, etc. the writer has given them her own unique spin and new characters are more than just thin outlines. At times, April was a little annoying, particularly when she just blurted out her newest suspect without any real proof, just circumstantial evidence. With no surprise, things turn ugly when April accuses her best friend’s boyfriend.
An enjoyable read and a nice break from the sweltering hot summer to imagine life in the North Pole. I enjoyed it enough to immediately go out and read the first one (you don’t need to the first one to understand this one).

Mood/Seasonal Reading: the best months of the year, October into Christmas
This was just as cute as the first! I absolutely rounded this rating up due to just how wildly creative and adorable I find this series.
While I have some reservations on our Mrs. Claus and her relationship with Santa (in my opinion I think she would be better off with Jake Frost), I still flew through this book. I find the concept very intriguing around this time of year and the small plot points and characters all come together for a really fun time.
I enjoy it so much it is one of the only books I will read on my phone (a practice I really don’t enjoy).
I will absolutely continue this series.

Mrs. Claus, April Claus, just can't stay out of trouble. April introduces Halloween to Christmastown, but there are some town folk who don't get into the Halloween spirit. Pumpkins are smashed, threats are made and April survives the funicular fail. April is new to being Mrs. Claus. The current Santa Claus, Nick, is just filling in for his young nephew until Chris turns twenty-one and assumes the mantle of Santa Claus himself.
There are some really fun characters in this book besides April and Nick. There's the inept Constable Crinkles and his nephew-deputy Ollie. They are more concerned about selling raffle tickets to make enough money to get new wallpaper in the local holding "cell" (Green wreath pattern or French hens?) than solving a murder. Jake Frost returns in this book and he is investigating the murder and has a second secret job in Christmastown. The murder victim, Tiny Sparkletoes owns Sparkletoes Bootery. Not many in Christmastown have a good word to say about him. Makes for lots of suspects. His death is attributed to a snow monster. A giant footprint surrounds his smooshed body. The town goes into panic mode. But is a snow monster really the killer?

MRS. CLAUSE AND THE HALLOWEEN HOMICIDE is the second book in the Mrs. Clause Mysteries by Liz Ireland. I loved the first book in the series and this newest one has made me a dedicated fan! Filled with fantasy including fantastical world building (Santa’s North Pole!), quirky characters (surveillance snowmen, comical elves, and the like), and hilarious laugh-out-loud moments (boozy reindeer cookies anyone?) I couldn’t put the book down. Not many people would attempt to combine Christmas and Halloween themes into one book, but Ms. Ireland makes it seem effortless.
Despite all the entertaining fun the book has to offer, the author still manages to include a murder and a well-plotted investigation. It’s conducted by none other than Mrs. April Clause, Santa’s wife, transplanted from Oregon. I was too busy enjoying every word in this enchanting read to figure out who the culprit was. But once I finished the last page, it was clear that the clues are there for the armchair detective to follow. The only downside that I could see, is that the book doesn’t come with a plate of cookies and a mug of hot cocoa. April Claus has introduced the idea of Hallowe’en to the very Christmasy minded North Pole inhabitants. Some, especially the kids who like to dress up and eat candy, are delighted. So are many of the elves, but there are some who are against it. Someone is causing mischief, smashing the pumpkins Salty is growing, sending threatening notes, and getting a petition against Hallowe’en. The most vocal elf against Hallowe’en is found dead in the snow, presumably killed by a snow monster. And April herself is nearly killed as well! It’s going to take a lot of sleuthing to find who is responsible. Luckily, April has Jake Frost helping the local constabulary. Quasar the reindeer and Pocket the snowman also figure in the search. This book was pure Christmas magic and delight, a place where reindeer talk and snowmen live. The imaginative world inhabited by the Clauses and the elves seems so wonderful, even if it is rather cold. The characters are well developed and true to their personalities. They may not all be likable, but they are all quite interesting. The mystery is a good one, and well written. It’s just too bad we have to wait another year for the next installment!

Mrs Claus is still a newlywed and has moved to live in Christmastown/Santaland at the North Pole. She misses some of the other holidays she is used to and has introduce Halloween to the town, but someone REALLY doesn't like that and has broken into the greenhouse, smashed the pumpkins, and the turnips. Constable Crinkles is on the case, but Mrs C is more familiar with sleuthing than the good constable. It's a short, fun whodunit with lots of characters who definitely are. Great fun!

I didn’t like this quite as much as the first book. Although there were some humorous parts the middle of the book dragged a bit. Also, April Claus seemed a bit lost in this book - she felt more decisive in the first book. I hope that Jake Frost and his apprentice and even Claire play bigger roles in the next book. I find them more interesting than Nick’s family.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read an ARC of this fantastic book. This book is a huge success, and I honestly think it’s one of the best cozy mysteries I’ve read this year.
Here are some of things I loved about this book:
-The humor! This book is so funny. The first book in the series had humor too, but this book has several truly clever laugh-out-loud moments.
-Just like in the first book, the author’s creativity really shines with names, places, and other ideas about Santaland and its inhabitants. The world she creates is so vivid and colorful. I am completely transported to a world of Santa and elves and talking reindeer.
-The pace was fantastic. One quibble I had with the first book’s plot was that not much happened. Not so with this book! The shenanigans are essentially nonstop, with all sorts of excitement.
-Liz Ireland really kept me guessing! With so many mysterious goings on and suspicious characters, I was kept wondering and theorizing the whole book.
Honestly, my only dislike is that I’m not completely in love with April, the main character. One issue I had with the first book was how she was constantly lying to her husband (and everyone), but luckily in this book the lying doesn’t last long. Her hubby knows she wants to investigate and he even brings in Jake Frost so they can investigate together. I also don’t like how April blurts out suspicions without real proof. But I also know that’s a common thing that heroines do in cozy mysteries.
I think this book will be irresistible to cozy mystery lovers. It put me in a Halloween AND Christmas mood! I wanted to eat cookies the entire time I was reading. The experience was cozy, happy, entertaining, and a little silly; in other words, it was a perfect cozy mystery experience.

In fact there are so many funny scenes from raffle ticket selling police, debating cell wallpaper, and those reindeer cookies-I still can't get over the cookies. But there is depth behind the humor too. Friendship is at the core of the second Mrs. Claus mystery; speaking the truth and looking out for your friends, even if it risks ruining the friendship.

I generally stay away from holiday-themed books, but I read the first book in this series and loved it, so I got this one. I love cozies and fantasy, and the author does a great job of combining them in this one. Not only is the writing fantastic, but all of the characters are just so much fun to read about. Add in an interesting mystery, a little bit of slapdash humor, an interesting Christmas universe at the North Pole, an MC who wants to bring Halloween to Christmastown, and a bunch of all kinds of things in between, and you have a great book to spend some time with. There is one particular small plot about reindeer cookies that literally had me crying from laughing. Absolutely a great time. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

As I said for the first book in this series, these books have the most original premise of any cozy mystery series I've read. The wife of Santa Claus, at the North Pole, with elves, and abominable snowmen, and a detective who is the cousin of Jack Frost... there's so much fun stuff going on! Unlike the first book, which was squarely of the Christmas holiday theme, this one is a bit more... spooky. Mrs. Claus has convinced the town to have its first Halloween celebration, but its bringing more mischief and mayhem than she anticipated!
This book was even more fun than the first! It also set up a book three perfectly, with an anticipated visit from Mrs. Claus' best friend back in the United States in the next Christmas season. Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide is the second installment of the Mrs. Claus series by Liz Ireland, which takes you back to Santaland. The protagonist is Mrs. Claus who introduces Halloween to the town and most of the elves enthusiastically participate in preparing for the big day. However, there are a few elves who are not so keen on this new spooky holiday being adopted into Santaland and they go on a pumpkin smashing mission. On top of it all, the most protesting elf is killed in a peculiar manner and April can’t help herself but get involved with the investigation.
This story has so many adorable and interesting characters in it. With talking and drunken reindeer with faulty blinking noses, to a distant cousin of Jack Frost as the main detective to get to the bottom of the Pumpkin Slayer, to the many different elves of Santaland all make up for a hilarious cozy that had me laughing throughout the book.
I also love that this has a unique spin on already established fictional characters who you always picture as jolly beings, trying to get by and who have struggles of their own similar to people in real life.
April’s character is amazing and I’m a huge fan of hers. She is imperfect and is a big person trying to fit in a world made for much shorter people, all because she fell in love with Nick Claus. Her quirky characteristics and her relationships with those she was helping solve the mystery with were fun. The world building was amazing and the author transported me to a world that I would love to hang out in.
If you haven’t guessed it by now, I really recommend this novel and I look forward to many more in this series.

Holy cow! I can’t believe I read the first Mrs. Claus book FOUR years ago 😳 I didn’t even know there were more until I saw a Thanksgiving one on a library display. Unfortunately, that is the 4th book in the series and I have trouble reading a series out of order… But the good news is that my library had this book AND book 3 on the shelves, so I’m digging in and reading all three 😂
I like this setting. The characters are fine; there isn’t a lot to them. I did get a little fed up with April - and others - jumping to conclusions all over the place. But, it’s just harmless fun.
The best part might have been the whole bit with the cookies 🙂
