Knight and Day
Theodore Knight has a curious nature. Ever since he was a child, he’s loved books that are full of danger and adventure. In real life, he’s a simple bookstore owner. But in his imagination, he’s a hero who goes on great quests to save the princess, or in his case, the prince, from evil dragons.
Until one day, real life starts to look a lot like his imaginary world. . . and the fate of an entire kingdom rests on his shoulders. The world is more magical than he ever thought, and he will have to learn to accept the impossible as possible, if he and Samuel are to succeed.
Samuel Day had never journeyed to the human realm, and he sure didn't mean to get stuck there. That said, he’s found it all incredibly fascinating. Especially Theodore, the adorable human who holds a piece of the puzzle necessary to stop an evil immortal and save the magic realm known as Evorea. His loyalty is to his king, but it doesn’t take long for Theodore to become equally important.

An MC who looks like The Witcher?

Okay, so this is part of a big fantasy series written by different authors for each book. The thing that shows up in each book is a Magic Emporium that gives the customer just what they will need at the right time. In this case a human gets a magical chicken foot.

His chicken foot is important, but he keeps trying to throw it away. Only for it to come back again and again.

2.5 Hearts
This is the first book of the Magic Emporium series - complete stand alone stories who share the common presence of a mysterious shop that shows up in times of need across universes and dimensions.
To be honest, the blurb really embellishes what this story is about. In reality, it’s a super duper simple romance as Theodore and Samuel fall in love while trying to find a way back to the magical realm Evorea, in order to destroy a potentially sinister dagger. They learn about each other and the differences and similarities of their worlds with quite the quick progression to love in a matter of days. This touches lightly on fate and destiny and of course, ends with a nice and neat HEA that was quite anticlimactic.
I’m practically the lone person that didn’t love this story hard so take my unimportant opinion with a grain of salt. Having read many many urban fantasy paranormal stories over the years, this was admittedly easy breezy with very little to complain about but on the other hand, brought nothing new to really espouse upon either.
Overall, a decent introduction to this intriguing premise of a series.

I don't normally rate DNFs but at 87% it was just over for me. It's boring & grating at the same time. It seems like it's supposed to be epic but it's just 2 guys talking to a few "people" who are actually fantasy creatures, a shopping scene, a terrible, sort of fight scene that was over in like a page and then the guy's best friend turns out to be a dragon and is like hop on. The insta-lust/love was whatever but it really just not great at all.
It's too bad it had such a gorgeous cover that could have been used on a truly epic story.

A solid introduction to this series
This was a nicely paced introduction to the shared world of the magical emporium.
I liked the idea of having two pieces of a dangerous object kept separate until the right time to destroy it.
However, I was a little bit disappointed by the lack of any actual danger in the actual narrative 😁
Apart from a very brief interlude with an easily defeated coven of witches, the big bad never materialised.
Having said that though, it didn't stop this from being a cute paranormal romance. I liked the Witcher-esque character of Samuel and bookshop owner Theodore was also a sweetie.
I did guess who the dragons would be almost as soon as they were mentioned but it again doesn't spoil the fun.
PS: Epic cover is epic! Love it.

Loved this story!
Really enjoyed reading this modern day fairytale! The author did a great job of establishing her world even though most of the action takes place in our world. Interesting and fun story, would love to read more from this world.

This was a huge let down. I'm really glad I read Must Love Demons first. Because of that book, I decided to read more from the Magic Emporium series, and decided to read them in the order they were published. If I'd started with this, I don't know that I would have read any others.
Very simple writing, a lot of tell and no show, very unbelievable and too quick of a wrap-up. "Unbelievable," I say? Of course with magic! However, I mean how quickly Theodore and his father, Michael, fall in step. This random stranger comes along with your son with a wild story that, as far as Michael is aware, should sound crazy and impossible. But nah, it's all good.
The bits with the baddies...? Too quick and disappointing.
I did really enjoy seeing more of the magical creatures and how they all behaved/got along in the human realm. That was fun. And it did have some funny parts.

This is terrific book that I could not put down. The author quickly captivated my attention with the intriguing characters, and a fantastical storyline. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this book from magic, romance, and a bit of mystery. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Short and interesting
This book was a great short read with an interesting premise and characters. The characters were really great I especially liked Theo and Samuel they hit it off pretty quickly with one learning about a new place while the other learns about something he never even thought possible. The plot was interesting it started with Theo finding a store that should of not been there bringing home something he tries to throw away after that Samuel shows up looking for that thing it is given to him but it goes back to Theo so they set out to find a way to separate it from him and fall in love along the way it was a really well written story.

Set in a world where different realms exist alongside the human one, this story is pure and unadulterated fantasy and must be approached as such. If you are looking for a lot of world building or background, this is not a story where you will find it. Instead, the reader is thrust into this magical place and expected to suspend all disbelief, which means accepting that Theodore very quickly, almost instantaneously, goes along with the idea that there are a whole host of creatures and places he never knew existed right outside his door.

2.5 stars. A very lighthearted fairytale with insta love. A multi author series focusing around a magic shop. It felt more like a beginner's quest. I couldn't get into the characters and although I liked the supernatural revelations, especially the troll, the only part of this book that drew my attention was the talking to the cat. Short, sweet but not for me.

It was interesting, and the premise had me curious, but when the stakes were getting higher I feel like it went flat. The ending was cute, if a bit anticlimactic. It was nice, but there are books I like better within Jackie's backlist.

I feel like this had potential but nothing really happened. There is a villain but we never meet him, the one scene fighting a group of witches was completely anticlimactic, there was no angst, everything was just even-keeled.

This was the cutest start to this series. I’m not even kidding. And I got to proofread one so I know a little more that’s coming and I think you guys are going to be in for some fun and good times with these stories. There’s a little mystery and danger involved in this story, with a bit of romance, some sexy men, a shop that loves to appear out of nowhere and a mission to solve.
Having proofread the other, which I’m not saying which one, I kind of got a bit of how things were going to work in some ways and I have to say I was thrilled. So getting to read this one, the start of it all, had me happy. It’s characters are fun, sassy, and so incredibly brave considering they don’t fall to pieces or go insane at the thought of what enters into their lives.
For Theodore, he sees the Magic Emporium between two shops on his streets and although his gut was saying stay away, his curiosity made him go. And what a shock he got when he walked in the door. It’s called magic for a reason. Between the magical beings, the magical objects and the fact it appeared out of nowhere….well, it’s definitely shaken Theodore’s world. But none so much as a storm appearing out of nowhere with a light at the end and a giant of a gorgeous man coming from it. And I had to laugh there. I really did. I have a vivid imagination and just seeing the look on Theodore’s face when Samuel came from that storm/portal, made me laugh so hard. I mean really. Huge powerful storm ends in sexy as can be man standing at your feet and you’re the one he wants to talk to. I would have probably run screaming myself. Or fainted. Who knows.
But Samuel is so great. I adore him. He so lives up to his title. He’s a guardian for a reason and has no problem taking care of Theodore. And there are surprises at every corner for Theodore. He is literally thrust into something he never knew of and when the secrets start spilling out, the hugest secret of all leaves him stunned. And huge is putting it mildly. But I love those secrets, because it shows how much Theodore really is cared for and watched over. It shows that people will go to any lengths to keep him safe and feeling safe and secure. And Samuel just made it all that much better.
It’s a great start to this series. I really enjoy the depth of characters and the ones in the Emporium especially. Those guys know how to throw down with the sarcasm and that cracks me up so so much. I can’t wait to see who’s next.

Theodore was absolutely adorable, and I loved his reactions to being thrown headfirst into a fantasy world where amulets, magical shops and portals to other realms appear and disappear out of nowhere, and dashing guardians are real. Samuel was just perfect for him and I loved that they found a way to make things work between them.
This was such a great read! Fast-paced, sweet, fun, and hot, Ms. James piqued my interest and I really can't wait to see what else these authors have in store for us. Very recommendable!

“Theodore, there is magic everywhere, in every realm.” Can I just say how much I want to visit the Magic Emporium, Evorea and how hard I fell in love with this story? It’s freaking amazing and fantastic as are Theodore and Samuel. I adore them, their zest for life, their bravery and their all-around joy. They made me smile, but not just them, I love all the characters we meet and I need more of this world, more of them and more magic. Also, more sweatpants and pocket change, please. A magical, enchanting adventure that will have you searching for the extraordinary in an ordinary world.

A delightful introduction (for me, I don't know which book is slotted to release first), to a new shared universe featuring a magical shop that shows up when you need something, even if you don't know you need it! This was a very sweet, practically zero angst introduction into the world. I liked both Theodore and Samuel quite a bit, and thought they worked well together. The magical world of both an alternate universe and the unseen in the world we know was interesting and so well done. I was definitely hooked the entire time. My only issue was it was a little too angst free for me. Most of the book is the two MC's just walking around town together, or sitting on the couch watching tv, and I really wanted them to get into more action. It was still cute seeing Samuel learn about the human world, and Theodore get his eyes opened to a world he thought only existed in his fantasy books, and I'm looking forward to seeing how other authors spin their tales with this well crafted concept.

I loved this story. It had so many of the paranormal tropes I love – fish out of water, magic, different realms, a geek, and dragons. I’m looking forward to reading more in the shared world.
I loved Theodore. He’s so wonderfully geeky, and I had fun recognising all of the pop culture references, and even more fun in that Samuel had no clue what Theodore was talking about, and fell for him so hard and fast. These two are very sweet together, and I liked that Samuel was cautious and wanted to confirm Theodore liked men before making a move. The way his suspicions were confirmed was brilliant. I liked how Samuel is delighted by our world, exploring every new bit of it. And sweatpants! My favourite moment is when he’s mistaken for a cosplayer.
Marden’s is such a cool idea! I loved how it appeared in both realms and that it charges for the magical item as “it’s not a charity shop.” The world building is fabulous, and not just the shop. One of my favourite fantasy tropes is the mix of high fantasy and contemporary, and this hit all of that perfectly. I loved Theodore’s reaction to Evorea too, and his learning that his world isn’t as ordinary as he thinks it is. The dragons were wonderful, as was the reveal as to who they are. I just love the premises of this series. A magical shop that shows up when and where you'd least expect it and, once you step in, your life as you knew it would be changed forever... which was exactly what happened to Theodore in Knight and Day. After visiting Marsden's Magical Emporium he found himself linked to an object that resembled a chicken foot and a man dressed as a sexy cosplayer claimed the future of his kingdom depended on the two of them safely returning a dagger to the king of Evorea.
This was a fun adventure because, unable to leave the human realm, Theodore and Samuel scoured the streets of New York searching for someone capable of taking them to Evorea. The search revealed to Theodore a wonderful reality hidden to the human eyes, with Samuel just as amazed by each new discovery of Theodore's world. The time they spent together also allowed them to really know each other and build on the connection both felt as soon as they've met. Feelings between them grew in a way that felt steady and unrushed, despite the events of the book taking place within the span of just a few days.
I liked the surprises along the way and the truths revealed about Theodore. My only niggle would be that, although the whole story was built on the huge danger an immortal posed to Evorea, aside from an encounter with some dark witches, nothing dangerous actually happened, at least not connected to the what seemed the pivotal point of the plotline.
As a whole this book was a sweet, magical, angst free and light romance, with two endearing protagonists and interesting secondary characters. Yes, I wish the initial urgency would have continued during the the rest of the storyline and that the threat would have ended with a less uneventful, simple resolution, but the story kept a smile on my face from beginning to the end. Theodore and Samuel are definitely worth knowing, that's why I feel like Knight and Day is a book not to be missed.
This was a fun adventure because, unable to leave the human realm, Theodore and Samuel scoured the streets of New York searching for someone capable of taking them to Evorea. The search revealed to Theodore a wonderful reality hidden to the human eyes, with Samuel just as amazed by each new discovery of Theodore's world. The time they spent together also allowed them to really know each other and build on the connection both felt as soon as they've met. Feelings between them grew in a way that felt steady and unrushed, despite the events of the book taking place within the span of just a few days.
I liked the surprises along the way and the truths revealed about Theodore. My only niggle would be that, although the whole story was built on the huge danger an immortal posed to Evorea, aside from an encounter with some dark witches, nothing dangerous actually happened, at least not connected to the what seemed the pivotal point of the plotline.
As a whole this book was a sweet, magical, angst free and light romance, with two endearing protagonists and interesting secondary characters. Theodore and Samuel's adventure was equal parts thrilling and romantic. I was expecting there to be a bit more danger involved in their quest to get the dagger safely back to the king, but I'll admit that it was nice to see these characters spend quality time getting to know each other instead of running around all over the place. The softer, sweeter moments made me buy into their rapidly growing love much more than I would have if they were hyper-focused on the quest. Between the supernatural beings, adorable bonding moments, and steamy encounters, Theodore and Samuel kept me invested in their journey from start to finish. I can't say that this was my favorite couple or that this paranormal quest was particularly outstanding, but I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to reading the rest of this multi-author series.

I will admit that the reason I chose to read this above my other tbr's was the cover. I just recently watched the witches series! I saw it and immediately thought "Witcher is that you?"
This book has a plot that is every fantasy book lovers dream. "A Knight from another world finding you. Asking for your help, their on a quest and you, are the missing key. They need you to go with them to their world. To save their king!
Learning that magic is real. And going on an Adventure!! Is a dream we all have. I would go in a second. But...... This book fell alittle flat for me. Everything was a little too easy. Their Quest, turned a little bland. I wish there was more obstacles, more danger, more action. There just was not quite enough... Passion

This book is part of the Magic Emporium multi author series and it is a very sweet, low angst romance.
Theodore and Samuel are the two wonderful main characters. Theodore is an adorable, imaginative bookstore owner and Samuel is a Guardian from another realm on a quest to save his King. The fate of a Kingdom lies on their shoulders but that doesn’t stop the chemistry between them from igniting.
This is a well crafted and engaging novella that flows along nicely. There’s all manner of magical creatures and a world that Theodore never knew existed.
A delightful way to spend a few hours.

If you were expecting a high quality fantasy story with a bit of romance you wouldn't like this book.
But if you were like me and expecting a romance with all of its fluff and fantasy just exist there you would love this one.
