Kelsoe Shaheera Smith is a seventeen year old pirate, and a damned good one. Her rebellious nature has gotten her into trouble more than once, and this time it’s no different; although the stakes are much higher now as she stumbles on a threat to every man woman and child in the entire galaxy. She can act the role of Primus, the head of the Smith clan, or she can rebel and attempt to save not only the Smith clan, but the very Empire that has put a stupendous bounty on her head. Her headlong rush leads her to another galaxy, with new problems, new questions regarding what she might be turning into, and few answers.
Not a lot of originality in the core (prototype ship with powerful AI defeats everything). However, the characters show definite growth through their adventures. The most intriguing element is how the unexplained virus changes each character... including the AI?! I would be very interested in a sequel where the origins and goals of the virus are more completely developed.
A few elements distracted me. The idea that 10mph running is outside human norms. The loss of Kelsoe’s hip implanted AI and corneal implants from the first book. Finally, how and why did the Empire turn so violently on the Smith family
Rebellion is a great sequel. I read Wrecker's Moon when it was first published and did not realize a sequel had been published. I bought Wrecker's Moon to reread and got Rebellion on KU. The worldbuilding is fantastic, the characters are fascinating, and the story is thrilling. I hope there will be a book 3, since Kelsoe seems to have more adventures planned.
This installment was as much fun as the first book. While some of the tech is more magic than sci-fi, the storyline remains engaging and entertaining. Decent character development and good supporting cast, plus a positive ending which leaves open the potential for another book.
Why does Amazon require you to write 20 words with each rating. It is annoying and I would rate more books if I did not have to do that. I bet there are others like me. Please rate Amazon’s rating system and tell them to take the 20 word requirement out.
