Austin 3:16: 316 Facts & Stories about Stone Cold Steve Austin

Rate this book
316 facts about WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin.

What’s “3:16 Day”? It’s a day when someone gives you a load of crap, and you give it back with a certain one-fingered gesture. “316 Day” is a day when you can open up a can of whoop-ass on anybody you want. A day when four-letter words are acceptable and the speed limit is only a suggestion.

“3:16 Day” is a day that epitomizes Stone Cold Steve Austin, the toughest S.O.B. ever to lace up a pair of boots. Austin launched WWE’s Attitude Era the moment he won the 1996 King of the Ring Tournament and quoted iconic scripture on his bible-thumping opponent: “Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!”

Austin 3:16 celebrates the WWE legend’s finest moments in the ring, on the microphone, and behind the wheel of a beer truck, a Zamboni, and a cement mixer. This book collects 316 Stone Cold facts, figures, and catchphrases that uncover little known facets about sports entertainment’s Texas Rattlesnake, including how he conceived the “Stone Cold” moniker, what he really thinks of adversaries Mr. McMahon, The Rock, and Bret “Hit Man” Hart, and why he has the WWE Universe shouting “What?” all the time.

Bottom line? Austin 3:16 says it all, ’cause Stone Cold said so!

Austin 3:16: 316 Facts & Stories about Stone Cold Steve Austin is a collection of facts and trivia about wrestling's Steve Austin, as the title indicates.

ECW Press hit me up with a review copy of this. At the time, Steve Austin wasn't my favorite wrestler but as time passes, I see he was one of the last important personalities in wrestling so I agreed to read it.

As the title indicates, this book contains 316 facts and very short stories about Steve Austin. It's mostly trivia, like Steve Austin's mom going to the same high school as Virgil "Dusty Rhodes" Runnels. Others are stats, like how many times Steve Austin won the Royal Rumble, the combined number of days he was WWE champion, and things of that nature. The longest sections were given to transcripts of some of the god awful WHAT? promo segments. Seriously, fuck the WHAT? chant.

This is a pretty breezy book with as many as three segments on a page, meaning the 316 facts and stories fit into much fewer than 316 pages. It's a fun book for the most part, like reliving the best bits of the Attitude era without being subjected to the more cringe inducing moments. My main gripe is that the segments aren't in chronological order.

Austin 3:16: 316 Facts & Stories about Stone Cold Steve Austin is more fun that getting hit with a five pound metal bed pan. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is one of the most popular wrestlers to ever perform for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He has created many popular terms among wrestling fans such as "Steveweisers" for a can of beer and "3:16 Day" when he would defeat an opponent. There are others that are not suitable for family or work, so I will leave them out of this review. I will just say that these and many other facts and stories about him are printed in this collection of snippets by Michael McAvenine.

Just about anything you can imagine wanting to ask about Stone Cold will be answered here – how did he get that moniker, what got him interested in professional wrestling, how many titles has he won – these and so many more facts are told in bite-size pieces in the book. None of the stories or articles are two pages long and while there are "chapters", there is no true organization within the book. The stories and facts are not told in any order, nor are they organized by a topic such as early years, quotes, famous matches or the like. That is probably the least pleasing aspect of the book, but because of this, a reader can read as much or as little as one wants in one sitting. If the reader puts it down and picks it back up later, there is no break in the flow.

Not only is Austin's time with WWE captured, but a reader will also learn about his early, lesser-known years with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the messy ending he had during his time with that organization. Fans of either organization's wrestling will recognize many names in the industry that were prominent in the 1990's and early 2000's. There are so many good matches – individual, tag team and battle royals – that a reader will never lack for a good story of a match involving Stone Cold.

Any fan of the legendary performer will want to grab a "Steveweiser" or two and relax with this collection of great stories and facts about their wrestling hero.

I wish to thank ECW Press for providing a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading this little "fact" based book about one of my favorite "Love to Hate & Hate to Love" wrestlers. Reading through the quotes of Austin, to the facts, to the interesting insights and behind the scenes stories got me back into wrestling. So much so, that I am currently binging WWE RAW & the concurring main events that were sited in the book.

Loved the chapters beginning with "in"Famous quotes and skits by Austin that lead into the facts for that section. Had my memory jogging about which episodes of RAW they were on. Or, trying to remembering which Main Event led into the next one. Great to have behind the scenes perspectives from the athletes - yes, they are athletic, hence athletes - and get the reasoning behind certain skits, absences from the ring or just the plain craziness & zaniness that goes on in the World of Sports Entertainment.

Found this more enjoyable than other athletes' bios/memoirs that I've read. Not a "must" for wrestling fans but a great addition for them.

"...And that's the bottom line, cuz Stone Cold said so..."
