When Agent Jace Greyson found himself assigned to the new MBLIS branch in New Orleans, he didn't foresee getting wrapped up in a case of theft. However, when the wife of a foreign national is found dead and a necklace worth millions missing, MBLIS is called in to find the necklace and the murderer.
But as the chase twists and turns and more thefts pile up, Greyson and the team step up their game before more dead bodies litter the sides of this treasure hunt.
Matt Lincoln has lived his entire life on the coast and he wouldn't have it any other way. A lifelong fan of Travis McGee, Magnum PI, and just about anyone who knows their way around a boat and a good cigar, Matt now lives where the sand meets the surf with his beautiful wife, a son who reminds him way too much of himself at that age, and an Irish Setter who he can never seem to tire out. Life is good.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous books from Matt Lincoln. However, when reading this book i had to go back to his character introduction to confirm that the lab tech was only one person. The use of plural pronouns to describe a single person is annoying and grammatically incorrect. I am not a fan of the woke movement and it really disgusts me to see it acknowledged by an author that I have previously enjoyed reading.
The story works, mostly and the characters are fun... But, the writer forgot to proofread and certainly did not use an editor.
The typos and careless misspellings became a distraction.
In the bank scene, the writer dropped the name of the thief even though she had not been named/ introduced.
The writer confused cliches: " muddling" the water rather than muddying; "stressing" the truth rather than stretching, etc.
Also used "other night" several times when more specific was needed. And more than once should have been "last night". In my opinion, sloppy writing.
The writer needed to research crime scene processing. The first scene in Marcus' mansion - even to an untrained person, it was obvious the writer did not do his homework on how to treat a crime scene.
I had read 3 of the "Fury" series and never had issues like this. So I was surprised and hope the writer will take more time with rewriting and editing going forward - your characters deserve it.
Grand Tour of New Orleans This was a brand-new MBLIS (a new Federal Team that works on cases that cross international borders) branch that Agent Jace Greyson found himself starting to work at, after having worked for the FBI. Getting to know each other as a team, since they all came from different work backgrounds, and like Jace, others were from other places, too. Their first case lands, and it is a good one. Stolen necklace worth millions. Following this team as they find their footing and learn to work together was a production that I could see as I read this story. It is a great story and a start for the MBLIS! Thank you, Matt Lincoln, for a great story. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.
OK I have read Coastal fury coastal defender Coastal rumble coastal liberty Costa Rica what happens in Vegas Crescent city crimes What I do not care for In this particular story Was the use of they their them When speaking of Cal. . It is 1 of the stupidest things this country has ever adapted it doesn't make any sense at all. Other than that I really enjoy this particular story because it was A thief Instead of the usual Crazy killers.
I almost gave up on this book because the author felt like he must honor the wishes of one of his characters and let the character "identify" as "them, they", etc. That felt like a complete waste of my time and will probably prevent me from reading anything else in this series. I rate this book 3 stars.
I really enjoyed this book with all its twists and turns. It kept me guessing. Although I was able to figure out a few things, I couldn’t figure out everything. Cal and they/ their was confusing at first until I realized it was an expression. I definitely recommend this book.
Good “Who done it”. I could have done with less descriptive content. I like to move through a book faster and excessive description slows me down. Orpheus, enjoyed the story,
I have read a lot of this author's work and this story is one of his finest. He could have left out the woke nonsense . This is a murder story overshadowed by a thievery plot.
