This is my first time reading a book written by Ally Brooke. My copy is signed by the Author.
"Finding Your Harmony" is a celebrity Memoir, following along the life of Singer Ally Brooke... from her start on The X-Factor, to her days performing with Fifth Harmony, to dancing on DWTS and eventually to starting her own Solo career. The story should have ended on a high note, with Ally performing on her first Solo tour... but the Epilogue revealed that in 2020, her shows were cancelled, and she was unable to finish her tour.
The Singer shares her personal struggles... from the health complications of being a premature baby to being misrepresented on national TV, her mom's health issues with scoliosis, dealing with Internet haters, the deaths of family members, the challenges of being in the public eye and the dizziness of experiencing rapid success. Ally talks about the pressures from the label, the time in her life she considers as "the great sadness" and ultimately the stress of going out on her own as a solo artist.
Ally talks about all the things she loves... like her hometown, family gatherings, her favorite Tex-Mex dishes, her spiritual mentors and her musical inspirations. She regales about meeting celebrities, performing at the white House, her time on DWTS and celebrating the milestones in her career.
My favorite chapters were when Ally talks about her time on DTWS which is my favorite show. I do remember her season back in 2019, so it was fun to hear her personal experiences and her thoughts on the dancers and her times backstage. I also loved that Ally is so open with her Christian faith. "God has carried me through my entire life. He has shown up in ways that left me awe-inspired and forever changed; in ways that I never even thought were possible" (from the Introduction)
Ally shares photos in the book... of her family, her guest appearances, her backstage pics at award shows, snapshots from her tours, international venues, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, DWTS memories and of course, images from her first headlining solo tour.
"We live out our best lives when we live out the best version of what God made us to be" (pg. 49)
