Gaige Ward, acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security, obtains things for the team.

As far as your mind can take you is how far he can go.

If it exists, he can get his hands on it.

If he can’t, he’ll find someone who can.

He never fails.

As with all things when growing in popularity, Blackbridge is also taking on scrutiny.

His boss, in an attempt to counter being called misogynistic and discriminatory against women, needs a female with the ability to handle the same tasks his guys can.

Leighton Redmond fits the bill perfectly.

Only, according to her she isn’t for sale, for employment or otherwise.

Gaige loves a challenge but has NEVER had to fight so hard to procure something for his boss.

Maybe next time he’ll think twice before having a one-night stand the day before a very important business meeting…

Blackbridge Security is one of those series that I hope never ends. Marie James gives us not only great couples to fall in love with but amazing story lines as well. SLEIGHT OF HAND is Gaige and Leighton's story.

Gaige Ward is the in house lawyer and acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security and is always up for a challenge in obtaining things for the company but when it comes to Leighton Redmond this may just be the hardest task he's ever had.

Leighton's world has just tumbled and she's not sure what to do about it but she will go to her scheduled meeting with Deacon Black and figure things out after, only she never thought she'd come face-to-face with her ONS from the previous night at the office....just add another tumble to her already crumbling world.

The chemistry between Leighton and Gaige can be felt when their eyes connect for the first time at a crowded bar. The sparks they give off will singe anyone if they get to close. I loved them together, both in and out of the bedroom.

If you haven't read any of this series before you can jump in at anytime because each book focuses on one couple so they can each be read as a standalone. I will worn you though once you meet the men of Blackbridge Security you're going to want to read each of their stories.

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Steamy Contemporary Romance, Office Romances, or Romantic Suspense.

Happy Reading!!!

Didn't like the premise, the principle of this book nor the leads.. The hero lies to the heroine that he is married after having a one night stand with her in fear that she will get clingy.. And he doesn't even apologize to her about that humongous lie he made... He confessed it to her way too late... And before knowing the truth, she sleeps with him again without knowing the truth that he is unmarried.. That's when I had to stop.. Doesn't matter if he was single.. But the female lead didn't know about it and yet she still went ahead and slept with him... The hero is a fucking, mean coward... And she is also messed up in her head... I can't stand such books.. It just ruined everything..

One of my favorite books in this series. I absolutely love it when a man who is sworn to bachelorhood falls off the wagon! No one loves any deeper than these men. Lots of HOT sex included!

M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Gaige loves his job. He loves the people he works with and respects the heck out of his boss. But, he's always shied away from relationships. He likes all types of women and doesn't want to be held down to one. Life is too short for that.

Leighton is amazing at her job. Her family life, however, is somewhat of a mess. Looking to find some relief, she heads to the bar for the night. She knows the score and isn't looking for forever. After all, men suck. She knows she'll never have to see him again, so why not let loose a little?

Despite their passion, Gaige knows a clingy woman's eyes and he quickly puts the kibosh on Leighton's thinking that they will have another night. However, he does so in a manner that truly makes Leighton irate.

When Leighton heads to her new job, she doesn't expect to see Gaige again and turns around and leaves when she sees who's working at Blackridge.

Knowing that he screwed up, Gaige tells his boss that he'll talk with Leighton and get her onboard again.

Leighton is dealing with a lot right now and this just piles on top. However, she wants to be the professional she is. So, she slaps on some lipstick, pulls up her big girl panties and gets to work.

Despite their connection, they try to deny it for as long as they can. Their banter is fun, sexy and gives the story a lightheartedness that the others didn't have.

This book is by far the least dangerous of the Blackridge Security romances. I actually thought it was rather ho-hum in that department. I wanted more from the conflict for sure. So, while I enjoyed the story, it was definitely a romance only story with almost no fast paced aspects that I've come to expect from James' books. It's still a good romance though, so I look forward to what's next.

We really enjoyed this current story in this ongoing series. Loved the characters as well as this series. The story was hot and flirty and hot and heavy at times, and was filled with a touch of emotion.

We love all the little moments that this couple experienced on their journey of falling in love. There were so many of those little moments that we absolutely loved, but, the ones with Gaige's grandmother were the most precious ones.

We love characters like Gaige where he is one of those hit-and-miss it types but, it only takes one slip of a girl and a hot romp between the sheets to bring the man to his knees, too bad he will never see her again.

Overall, the story had tons of chemistry, a bit of emotion tons of hot and sexy scenes, one hot and sexy lawyer who meets his match in Leighton who will the only acquisition he might not acquire for his boss. Loved Leighton she was just one of those characters so easy to fall in love with. We have to admit, we teared up a time or to. Mr. Blake, you melted our heart with your latest to addition Blackbridge Security and next up that that tight lip Irishman, and we have a feeling we are in for one heck of a ride considering how the story end we can't wait for the next adventure.

4.5 Star review of Sleight of Hands (Blackbridge Security #7) by Marie James
I enjoy romantic suspense stories and Sleight of Hands drew me in and kept me invested. It was a well written, entertaining story that ticked the boxes for me and is Gaige Ward, acquisition expert for the Blackbridge Security team and Leighton Redmond’s story.
Gaige has finally met his match in Leighton, she gives as good as she gets and had no hesitation in standing up to him, which I loved. Gaige has been tasked with convincing Leighton to join Blackbridge Security but she is not interested. Can Gaige convince her to change her mind?
There were some twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat and the story was well balanced with suspense, steam and witty banter. It was an emotional roller coaster of a read and was entertaining to watch Gaige fall and then scramble to fix his mistakes.

I was excited to see this book on my kindle, I love the group at Blackbridge Security. Although this story has a little different feel to it, it is more focused on the couple than on the team. But it is still great.
Gaige Ward is the acquisitions expert at Blackbridge Security, when his boss tells him they need women on the team and he wants to see about adding a few Gaige isn't sure what to say. He goes about his normal life. When he meets a woman at the bar one night, that is all he thinks it is, a one-night stand. What a surprise the next morning he gets at work.
Leighton Redmond was hand-picked by Deacon Black to be the woman to help get more women to work for BBS. What she didn't expect after her night with "John" was to see him at the place she might be working.
Gaige and Leighton are perfect for each other, their chemistry is off the charts. Working well together is an added bonus. When he takes her to a family function, he realizes that there is more to his feelings than just a great time together.
Can they work things out and make a relationship work? Will she go back to New York? Can Gaige move on if she doesn't stay?
As I said, I love this series and this story is a little different, more focused on the couple. But the guys are still there at times and that bird is there too. I can not wait for Finnegan's story.

Gaige's hot one night stand has now come back to bite him in the ass. But how was he to know the woman he had the best night of his life with, then promptly put pain in her eyes by leading her to believe he was married, would be the woman his boss was trying to hire? Now she stands in front of him and his boss, and it's obvious his lie is going to put a crimp in his boss's plan to get her on board at their company as its executive recruiter. Yeah...

Leighton had the most amazing night of her life. Then the guy she had it with turned around and broke her right after. Now he stands in front of her trying to help convince her to come work at his company?!? Not on her life. She's already had her heart broken by a cheating man, thanks Dad, she's not about to work with one and expose herself to the pain another cheater could bring her. But what about when she finds out she has nothing to fall back on, and needs to accept the job? Can she really work with "John" without wanting to smack him, or even worse, or jump back into his arms?

I liked this story, but did not love it. Why? One word - Gaige. He came across as a misogynistic douchebag for most of the story. I wanted to smack him quite frankly, and thought Leighton could have done so much better. That being said, he sorta redeemed himself by the end, and there were definitely things about him that spoke to good, like his family, especially his Lala, and his relationship with them, and his relationship with the guys at Blackbridge. There is little to no suspense here, which was a surprise given this is a private security series, so the relationship is the entire story. I'm not sure that was the best choice considering what a jerk Gaige was for the most part. Still, I really like Leighton, and the story itself, and cannot wait for Finnegan's story, Controlled Burn.

I love this BlackBridge Security series.
In this story we meet Gaige, head of acquisitions at the firm. His life is exactly how he wants it, no ties, no commitments, just free and easy. He picks up the pleasure he wants on a one night only basis and has no repeats….the perfect bachelor lifestyle.
Leighton is hard working and dedicated to her family firm. She is extremely good at her job and can find the right person for any role.
When she is hired by BBS to headhunt for a new all female sector of the firm she’s excited for the challenge but isn’t expecting to have company while she does her job…..
I loved this pair, off the scale hot, the push and pull between them was really entertaining, but the sad truth of Leighton’s somewhat lonely life was really poignant, I felt for this woman with a tough exterior and such a gentle heart.

Another winner from Ms James and next we get to meet the cheeky Irishman! :-)

OMG! I absolutely loved the story of Gaige and Leighton... It is quite simply amazing!

It's not a lie that I've loved every addition to the Blackbridge Security series but this is my favourite by far.

Leighton is a fabulous example of a kick a** female that has learned to meet problems head on.

Gaige is the ultimate player but he definitely epitomises the phrase 'the bigger they are, the harder they fall'!

You cannot miss this new addition and it has to be put on your TBR, immediately!

Another fine addition to this series by this author. I've read her books for years, and I have to say that she gets better and better. Not just at the actual story or character creation but with the smexy times. Good Lord were those scenes hot in this book.

I look forward to what is coming next.

Gaige and Leighton had a one night stand with fake names and lies. The next day they realize who each other was when Leighton went in for a job interview.

Lots of misunderstandings between the two of them. Both characters are flawed and have their issues. I was also not expecting that cliffhanger.

The book started off great, but as you reach the 40% mark, you begin to see how weak the FLC is.

She had a one-night stand and discovers afterwards that he is married. He's disrespectful to her post-coitus and is rather crude about their interaction (and not in a sexy way, more of a sleazy cheater way).

They are then forced to work with each other, and, believing he is married, watches him shamelessly flirt with other women and somehow is still attracted to him? Really? People who are ugly on the inside negate any beauty on the outside, so how is she attracted to someone she funds repulsive as a human?

AND, why then does she decide to get drunk with him simply becuase they struck out that day, not recruiting ONE person who is easily replaced by another?

She is ridiculously weak and kind of pathetic, no matter how hard the author tries to make her this amazing business woman.

To top it off, she up and leaves a family business because she found out her father fell in love with another woman, even though her mother is the devil incarnate? You're such a bad-ass business woman, you just up and leave a job you've been at for 14 years, and are slotted to take over the reigns when your father retires?

She sits in a bar, drinking with a vile man she believes is a habitual cheater, having fun and laughing, still wanting him, but won't even talk to her own father who fell in love 15 years ago with someone else?

Gross.

I didn't like the two main characters at all. He is a liar and she is a cheater. Neither one of them had any remorse for the things that they did.
The book was well written, as always. I just can't forgive these characters for their pitiful actions. At least I can say that they are for sure made for each other. They deserve each other! 4 stars

4.25 stars--SLEIGHT OF HAND is the seventh instalment in Marie James’ contemporary, adult BLACKBRIDGE SECURITY erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the team at Blackbridge Security. This is thirty-three year old acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security Gaige Ward, and thirty year old, executive recruiter Leighton Redmond’s story line. SLEIGHT OF HAND can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Some of the events of SLEIGHT OF HAND cross over with, and run parallel to the events of HEROIC MEASURES #6

Told from dual third person perspectives (Leighton and Gaige) SLEIGHT OF HAND follows the acrimonious relationship between is thirty-three year old attorney and acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security Gaige Ward, and thirty year old, executive recruiter Leighton Redmond. In town for a job interview, Leighton Redmond quickly discovers her one-night stand is a married man, her potential new co-worker at Blackbridge Security. Recently burned by betrayal, Leighton refuses to work for a company that willingly accepts the actions of its employees. Enter one-night stand Gaige Ward, and the man with whom Leighton will fall in love. What ensues is the back and forth, tempestuous relationship between Leighton and Gaige, and the potential fall-out as their time together comes to a close.
Gaige Ward knew he screwed up, and his boss, Deacon Black is forcing our hero to straighten things out. In an effort to convince Leighton to work with Blackbridge Security, Deacon sends Gaige and Leighton on a series of interviews, working together aimed at ‘headhunting’ potential new employees for the team but Gaige is determined to seduce our story line heroine, unable to forget about their one night stand, a seduction where the truth will have to be revealed.

The relationship between Gaige and Leighton begins as a one-night stand but quickly spirals out of control. Gaige is a man who refuses to be caged by the women he beds, and in this, his ruse as a married man is about to backfire in both his personal and professional career. Leighton Ward wants nothing to do with a cheating spouse, having seen the fall-out first hand with her own parents’ marriage but her attraction to Gaige cannot be denied, and after each encounter, our heroine swears it will always be the last. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Deacon Black and his wife Anna: Wren Nelson and his fouled mouthed bird Puff Daddy, Jude and Parker (Heroic Measures), Quinten and Hayden (Calculated Risk), as well as Leighton’s sister Chelsea, and several potential new recruits for Blackbridge Securitiy.

SLEIGHT OF HAND is a story of betrayal, dysfunctional family values, heart break and pain, lies and truth. The fast paced and character driven premise is engaging, and emotional but the suspense aspect is vitrually non-existent ; the characters are animated and wounded; the sexual chemistry is palpable and hot; the romance is edgy and tumultuous.

Not as good as the others and has no crime to solve - read on KU

This books walks you into the sauna in the first chapter. It was hot. The chemistry between Gaige and Leighton was undeniable. Unfortunately, so was the lack of communication. I absolutely do not recommend this as a standalone.

All of the other books in this series have included some sort of mission to complete involving a bad guy of some sort. The only mission here is our MCs travel around the US to try to hire female staff members. There is a criminal in the book but BBS (Blackbridge Security) isn't involved. We just get a paragraph or two twice in the book about it. I did miss that element of the book, but, at the same time, it at least keeps the series from becoming formulaic.

Gaige really was a jerk for a good chunk of the book. I was also disappointed in Leighton for one action. Not only was I disappointed, I was surprised she made the decision to do so without giving it any thought. Quite honestly, when it happened, I went back a couple of paragraphs and then jumped forward a page to see if it was a dream because it was so out of character. So often, I get frustrated from having too much time spent on characters obsessing over a decision or something that has happened in the past. No worries of that in this situation. She doesn't debate up front and gives it little thought afterwards. It bugs me more that it was out of character for her and the lack of build up to it than what actually happened.

We didn't see much of Puff Daddy in this book and I don't think his behavior was explained to Leighton the only time she was around him. And, as has become typical, Puff Daddy came out with conversation that no bird would ever be intelligent enough to say. It is usually funny but so very far into suspension of disbelief.

Gaige takes Leighton to his grandmother's 90th birthday party. His family just sucks her in. That is a huge turning point for them.

My last disappointment in the book was lack of communication was used as a plot device. I really hate that.

When I downloaded the book, Amazon stated it would take over 5 hours to read. I can't remember the exact time. I read the book in less than 3. I might have skimmed a few paragraphs on maybe 5 pages through the whole book, if that. No complaints here, just reporting.

I think this is the first book in weeks where I haven't highlighted at least one grammatical error. That's refreshing. It does seem like I might have noticed a few missing commas that I didn't highlight but none that impacted the meaning of sentences.

I really debated 3 or 4 🌟. It definitely rounds up to a 4. And really, it is the time with Gaige's family and the last 30-40% of the book that saves it. And the well done steamy scenes. Bottom line, I did enjoy it and can't wait u til Finnegan's book.

All wonderful, ...

However, I do believe that Gaige's story was the most moving! You made me cry, Ms. James!
Gaige is such a brat, immature, secure in his his way or no way, and when that doesn't work, he is truly a terrific Manipulator. But, you gave us glimpses into the real Gaige throughout this series, and in this novel we truly see a man his grandmother is so very proud of and loves.
Leighton, (well, Southern but, Bless her heart) so lost. She's an adult who is stuck in being Daddy's girl, yet an amazing business woman who even helps an Admistrative Assistant find a job with another client she was trying to recruit. Glimpses, throughout this entire novel we see them.
Glimpses of the man Gaige is,just add family and a grandmother whom he truly adores. Of Leighton, helping a AA in tears get away from a horrible boss, a woman who cried seeing Gaige's family full of love and laughter, who cried in his grandmother's arms, but seemed to be the female equivalent of Gaige, yet both are not who they seem to be. Together these two individuals are combustion, two things one wouldn't believe worked, yet mix and you get something new.
This novel brings these two together, Deacon seemed to know who to send with Leighton when her vindictive, uncaring Mother pulls the company her father built ( with her mother's money as start up) out from under Leighton and literally hundreds of people. Leighton who has never really known love is accepting, hugging, forgiving, and of course, something families and lovers have for each other and demonstrate.
It's quite the road these two encounter, yet Deacon has his reasons. Yet, Gaige's ability to be a complete axxole in the beginning sets the tone for quite sometime.
Suddenly, queue in Manipulator extreme, Leighton's mother, add tragedy and we truly learn who these two characters are...
While, this novel did not have all the omgosh moments many of BBS had, it is completely special. This is story of individuals who are on two different ends of the emotional spectrum except for one thing.
The settings, the travel, mean something, but really aren't important. This novel is truly about people, specifically, Gaige and Leighton. ( Not to forget a little Wren chirping)
Frankly the most moving of the entire series! Yet, not to dismiss any other thus far, because this is a stellar series I absolutely love.
Now, I wait for Finn the crazy woman finder's... As with each novel, regardless of how good the previous, of current one I just read, I seem to wish my life away waiting for whatever Ms. James' mind can bring next.
Sooooooo, since I truly said all I can say ...
NEXT ... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, I love how Ms. James gives readers a little peek into the relationship dynamics in the book previous in the series. I know not everyone does, but it really leaves me wanting more! Let’s just say this book starts off with a bang. WOW! I had really not formed a huge opinion on Gaige in previous books, but there was a point in this book that I put it down and walked away because I was so mad at Gaige. Yes, I know he is a fictional character, but I needed a break from him. This man was seriously going to have to redeem himself in my eyes….and in Leightons. The man that we meet initially in this book is not the true Gaige. The Gaige that meets Leighton is smooth and after one thing….but something about this girl has him nervous. The Gaige that his friends at Blackbridge know is kind, loves his extended family and is always willing to help. But he doesn't like commitments and plans on being a perpetual bachelor….and we know how much fun it is to watch these bachelors fall so hard and fast!
Leighton is feisty on the outside, but really self conscious on the inside. The woman she portrays to the world isn’t the woman she sees herself as. She has the life that everyone thinks that they want. Her family is wealthy, she is smart, and makes good money….but deep down something is missing. Her family is dysfunctional at best. She has no time for commitments or relationships.
I love how these two end up spending so much time together and how Leighton makes him work hard for her attention. And how much the guys Blackbridge interfere in each other's lives….it is all done out of love, but it never fails to make me laugh. From the start these two have some seriously hot chemistry...I was concerned my Kindle was going to melt. Not that I mind because wow. Not only is their chemistry hot in the bedroom but the way that they work together as a team. Gaige seems to know when to back off and let Leighton shine. And boy does she ever….this woman needs a cheerleader and Gaige is up for the task! I would also be remiss if I did not mention Lala and Gaige’s family. They are absolute gems. Gems. They are exactly the type of family that you want to have and create! If you have not read any of the Blackbridge Security books or Marie James I would highly recommend them….they are not too mission driven and you get a really a feel for the team and found family!

Hot, funny, and mixed with tension. BBS continues to amaze me with the mix of characters and great love stories.

This new couple sizzles chemistry, smoking hot fire, but between them neither of them have any experience in the relationship department, not that either of them are looking for anything beyond the sheets. However, the more time they spend together, the more the idea doesn't lose appeal.

Gaige Ward and Leighton Redmond meet in a bar the night before Leighton is set to meet with Deacon Black for a job interview with Blackbridge Security. Neither Gaige nor Leighton know who the other person is, their interlude is purely for pleasure where they actually give each other false names too. A one night stand that shouldn't have gone past that night, but the next day sheds a new light to a hot evening, with poor choices.

While Gaige and Leighton burn right off the pages, they both have problems with intimacy. Their back and forth, especially how Gaige initially treated Leighton was unexpected, but I loved the idea of how he originally handled his life and the growth he had throughout the story was excellent.

Leighton held back more throughout as the story went along, but she doesn't believe in relationships, at all. Unlike Gaige who grew up with loving parents, Leighton grew up in a toxic environment and believes that all men aren't able to commit. While she loves that Gaige is excellent at providing multiple O's she doesn't see beyond the bedroom for a future.

I love how each book in the Blackbridge world is different, but the entire team is brought together under one roof to work cohesively for one company. I never know what to expect when jumping into a BBS book and it truly makes reading this series exciting. I love returning, if for nothing else, to catch up with Wren and Puff Daddy, they make me giggle every single time.

When you pick up this book, go into it know that you are going to want to punch Gaige multiple times throughout the book. If you have read the start of this series then you know Gaige is the resident playboy who doesn’t do relationships, only because he really doesn’t want one. Then he meets Leighton. And what follows is a screw-up of epic proportions on his part and you aren’t quite sure how Marie James is going to be able to bring him back from the ultimate idiotic moves that he makes. But as the story unfolds, you get just that. You see Gaige as he fights his feelings for Leighton, and the downward spiral that he creates for himself.

You see him give in to the ideas and feelings that he has and the unknown as to whether or not Leighton feels the same. Leighton has a hard time trusting Gaige because of the emotional ringer not only he has put her through, but her parents as well. I adore Leighton, yes, she has been given a crap hand by life and it just seems to kick her while she is down. However, she doesn’t allow that to bring her down. She pulls herself up and moves forward. She pulls herself towards what she wants and needs. Gaige is just a bonus when he finally shows his true self to her. Lala, Gaige’s grandmother was just perfect. The entire family scene with her and the way that it played out was a huge moment in this story. I really enjoy this entire series of gossipy men who are truly a family of their own creation. You do not need to read the previous books in this series to know what is going on because while you get smatterings of the other men in the company, their significant others do not play a role. But you do get a little snippet into the next book, and it is going to be a doozy. And as always you have to love the dirty talking parrot Puff Daddy.

Gaige is used to getting his hands on everything he wants as the acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security. So when he sees the beautiful woman at the bar, he sets his sights and goes in for the kill. After a round of fun, he’s worried she may be clingy and quickly makes a break for it knowing he’ll never see this one night stand again . . .

Leighton is in town for a contract position with Black Bridge Security. Looking for a night of no strings attached fun, she picks up a gorgeous stranger in her hotel’s bar. But, just when she is getting ready to ask if he would like to go for round two, the man pulls a ring out of his pocket to put on his left hand. At least Leighton knows she’ll never have to see that no good cheater again . . .

Marie James sets up quite the entertaining story between Gaige and Leighton. Forced to work together after a night that was both incredible and awkward, they’ll need to fight their attraction to one another as well as their own fear of commitment.

From the start, Gaige and Leighton had amazing banter and chemistry. I adored just how hard Gaige had to work to get her to give him the time of day after his rotten behavior the first night they met. They are so wrapped up in their own fears about relationships and rejection that they can’t see what is happening right before their eyes which leads to some great moments of frustration, humor for those around them and genuine heartbreak.

There were some additional gems in this story, including seeing Deacon as a first time father, watching Gaige with his family, especially his grandmother, and Wren helping to play matchmaker yet again. The Blackbridge Security Series just keeps getting better and better with every release! 5 stars!

This is the next installment of the Blackbridge Security Series but you find the same actions of protection and who done it because we are focused on Gaige the legal mastermind of the business.

Gaige loves his work for Blackbridge Security and it keeps him very busy. He is not a relationship guy, as their are many beautiful women to entertain. Don't take his lack of want for a relationship to mean he doesn't believe in love, family and all that. He had a wonderful family as a guide, he just chooses to leave that alone.

Leighton is the best in her business, that explains why Deacon wants her to join the team. Her world as she new it, including her family has quickly crumbled to the ground. Starting with her finding her father cheating on her mother. The spiral affect that just keeps dropping bricks is almost too much to handle. In a need for some stress relief before starting her new job, she ventures out for a quick hook up. Boy did she get more than a hook up.

John and Ginger had a chemistry that was bouncing off the pages from the first paragraph. But Gaige and Leighton held that chemistry in a wonderful push and pull game. There I times I wanted to slap them both and tell them to just talk to each others, sometimes words are needed. It was fun to watch their realizations that maybe there might be something more worth having in their lives.

I did miss the mystery and suspense from the series that we have come to love. This was a good romance book.

Book 7 in this Blackbridge Security series, and this book focuses on Gaige, the in house lawyer, he's used to acquiring things for the team, but hits a bit of a stumbling block when his boss asks him to acquire a woman, Leighton, for the team..... turns out it was the woman he had a ONS with last night..... did the dirty on her, pretended he was married and walked out!!

Leighton's life has taken a turn for the worse, her parents splitting up and the company she worked for closing down. But even after this she didn't expect to run into her ONS guy at her meeting with Blackbridge this morning!!

This story is all about this couple, not much in the way of action or drama, but plenty of action in the bedroom!! Their chemistry is super hot, the attraction undeniable..... in the beginning they were both interested in just one thing, getting it on..... neither were the type for relationships, but as they got to know one another this started to change, yet neither came clean with that info to each other.....

Fun and flirty banter in this one as we watch both Gaige and Leighton fall for each other, without letting the other know, until of course it's too late and mistakes are made that make it hard to patch up. A bit of interaction with the other team members along with way, a little from Puff Daddy in this one but not a lot. I loved Gaige's relationship with his family, especially his Gran, emotional in parts, Gaige's vulnerability was endearing. A good addition to this series, just a shame there wasn't more action/drama.

Talk about an engrossing story. This was all of that and so much more for me. From the very beginning I was drawn in. I loved the way Gaige and Leighton first met and the immediate chemistry. I may not have loved Gaige’s move he pulled after their first encounter, but it was such an excellent setup for everything to come. And even when Leighton had a questionable moment, I felt like it all just added to these well developed and flawed characters appeal. There was so much more to them then just their questionable moments. Like the way Gaige was with his family, his grandmother in particular. And the way Leighton stood on her own two feet or stood her ground even against her own family. I just loved the overall story so much. I especially loved just being back in the BBS world. I’m sad that we’re over halfway through the series but it’s been excellent so far and I can’t wait to see what’s left for the last few men standing.

And the narration was just as fantastic as the writing. I love Jacob Morgan and Callie Dalton. They have two of those voices that I could listen to all the time. They have given voice to so many of my favorite stories and this is another of their great performances. I love how Jacob Morgan gave so much life to Gaige. He really made him likeable. He gave humor, kindness, and love all when it was needed. Callie Dalton gave energy, sass, and perfectly placed emotion where needed. It was just a great performance, and they remain on my favorite narrators list.

Talk about starting a book with a bang! The opening of Sleight of Hand was steamy and set the tone for how things would be between Leighton and Gaige the whole way through. Plus getting to catch up with the rest of the crew, especially Deacon as a dad is always a treat.

I won't lie, I wasn't a fan of Gaige until about 60% into the book. Simply put he was a jerk. The way he treated Leighton, lied to her and shamelessly flirted this way through their meetings wasn't that enjoyable. But I loved how Leighton held her own. How she didn't let his childlike behavior deter her from the task at hand and she laid down the 'rules' of how things were going to be with them.

It was when Gaige showed her the side of him that wasn't the playboy lawyer that things took a turn. She was forced to face her feelings. So was he. And did they ever make a mess of things.

To me, this book didn't quite have the same feel as the others in the BBS series. There wasn't really a danger element and there was A LOT of drama. Granted, most of it was of their own making, and lack of communication, but it was also just enough to keep me hanging on for them to get out of their own way.

But be still my heart...that ending...my eyes were misty as things played out in the final few chapters. And the way Marie James set up the next book in the series has me excited to hang with these guys again because Finn!!!

Sleight of Hand is the seventh book of Marie James’ Blackbridge Security series. All of the books can be read as standalone titles, but as someone who’s enjoyed them all, I highly recommend starting from the beginning if you like binging a series. And if you don’t, you could pick any one of them to read out of order. However, if you’re looking for a romantic suspense book, this was not quite that kind of read. It’s more of a bully/enemies-to-lovers romance than anything.

I honestly wasn’t sure I was going to like this book after the first two chapters. I absolutely hated Gage at that point and was 100% team Leighton. But as the story progressed and we saw more of who the real Gage is, he won me over. It took a while to get there, though. I think I finally came over to rooting for him with her when he took her to his grandmother’s birthday party. Leighton stole the show, though. She’s a go-getter badass and held her own throughout all of the ups and downs despite her mother’s obvious emotional and verbal abuse all of her life. (Hated her, too, by the way.)

All in all, I enjoyed the book, but if you’re looking for romantic suspense, you might be a bit disappointed not to really find it here. However, I’m a characters girl and super invested in the series, so it didn’t matter so much to me that it was missing that element. I just want to know all of their stories, suspense or none.
