Parker Whitley wasn’t the golden boy everyone thought he was.

I played the part of good son, exceptional student and led the football team to victory year after year. The prodigal son and Ashen Springs golden boy. The town worshiped the ground I walked on and my parents praised me. But at night I watched her. The beautifully weird girl I saw in the school yard.

Lana Crawford was my kryptonite. I wanted her so bad my body ached every time I saw her. All my mother would’ve seen was the color of her skin. So, I stayed away. Decided to spare my tempting siren the wrath of Lillianna Whitley. Until that night.

Now there was no going back. Fuck what everyone else said, it was time to take what was mine. Sweet little Lana thought she could fight me. Keep me away. There was one thing she didn’t know…
Every Whitley had a demented side.

Parker Whitley was the boy I dreamed about. I watched girls fawn over the football star and wished he’d look at me like he did them. I was stupid. One beautiful night destroyed my naïve teenage vision of him. The only thing Parker Whitley cared about, was Parker Whitley.

But I couldn’t escape him.

He left me with something. A piece of him I couldn’t bring myself to give up. Because despite how he acted, I couldn’t shake that night from my mind. He showed me something that he didn’t show anyone else. His true self. The version of him I dreamed about.

I just didn’t know that he boy of my dreams, would also be the man of my nightmares.

STORY:
Three books in, I like this author’s work. However, she gives me anxiety because I know she will do something that makes me cringe more in a shocking way because she doesn’t do disclaimers. It’s things that I’ve read in other books, but it just catches you off guard a bit.

With that being said, I had mix feelings but overall; I enjoyed the storyline. You’ve met the majority of the characters in book one and book two. Hearing the rumors about Parker, I was curious to see how his and Lana’s story would play out. So for me, the start point of the story was ok. It felt as though it started in the middle onwards. But if you’ve read book two, Logan’s and Shelby’s story, there is a particular scene that Parker’s and Lana’s story picks up from months later.

Why the beginning was just ok for me? Lana’s and Parker’s scenes were limited together for the first 28%. Their individual scenes were still interesting but didn’t need it to take so long. Also in the beginning, to me, Parker didn’t seem as intense as Micha and Logan. He is his own person; I know, but because of his background with Lana I was expecting intense obsess. His demeanor in the beginning didn’t appeal to me at first. It wasn’t until the light bulb went off in his head to take what he wanted that I started becoming more interested. I personally feel if it wasn’t for the other characters Parker’s story would just be ok all around. Lana, I wouldn’t say she is weak but she did what she could to appear strong. I wanted to see more pull and tug between her and Parker and not give in so easily.

Once the plot unfolds the storyline became more appealing as the story progresses. I also want to see more activity with the order as we know they are involve with a lot of things. These boys have killed and done things so want to see what they actually do for the order.

CHEMISTRY:
**Massaging my temple before writing this**. So there was a MM scene and a MMF scene. This is the anxiety part I mention earlier because the MMF scene was more with a who thing for me. Nevertheless, I would have loved a heads-up with the MM/MMF scenes, but again no disclaimer. It’s ok I rolled with it because I know expect the unexpected with the author. My deeper issue is, I did not fully enjoy Parker’s and Lana’s physical chemistry together. In the present, I believe they had one sex scene together by themselves. The story is about them, so I personally wanted more of them with everything else that follows because it really felt like it was all about Parker in my opinion.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
The other characters made this story what it was and I feel brought it to life.

Lillianna- Parker’s mother. Cancel.

Micha and Riley - Love seeing them. Micha is still dark as ever while Riley, wow, more aggressive as ever. All for good reasons.

Logan and Shelby - A pleasure seeing them.

Preston - Deadly asf.

Silas - Still don’t know much about him but love the scene that introduces his possible love interest. This should be interesting.

Mason - Micha’s brother. He needs a prayer he is cruel and mean. Way worst than book one. I am dying to read his and Harper’s story. The teasers through the books are killing me.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story as the plot unfolds and saw what was revealed in the end. Some things were ok while others excite me. After book 3, I am still very much invested in this series.

**Triggers: racial content, kidnapping, bullying etc...

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Absolutely stunned!

Just when I thought this series could not get better, I am proven wrong with each book in The Order of Ravens and Wolves series. Book 3 covers the relationship between Lana and Parker but with a twist. Besotted from childhood Lana and Parker, whose story was hinted at in Scartissue, start their initially bumpy love affair, but who are they kidding, they were meant to be.

Lana, demure, cute, sometimes quirky but with a bite, loves Parker; Parker, a jock with a hidden dark side, also carries a torch for Lana but withholds from her after their one love encounter to protect her from his family -- until a special delivery upends his plans -- and hers. This is a love story encompassing family relationships, secrets, and acceptance. It includes themes on race and sexuality and explores the sweet love Parker has for Lana along with some thrilling romantic suspense. Don't let Parker's star athletic status fool you. He is just as alpha, just as possessive as the rest of the characters in this story and because he's a Whitley, he has a touch of crazy. Lana is his perfect match as ever accepting and embracing their individual differences. Despite her sometimes conflicted thoughts, her often (hilariously) blurted out spoken words reflect her true feelings.

Dark themes and dark humor, this author has a talent for dark storytelling imbued with stomach-clenching humor. Characters -- and there are many to keep track of -- are individual, unique, realistic; and their voices, their thoughts speak to you from the pages of the book. I was excited by appearances from former books, seen from a difference perspective within the Lana-Parker world. I also gained some depth into characters such as Preston, Parker's brother; Ava, Parker's sister; Nan, Lana's grandmother; Mason and Harper; Finn; as well as Lana's and Parker's other family members.

The pace of the story was perfect, slightly faster than a medium burn and perhaps a bit faster than previous books in this series. And as always we are hit with some shocking discoveries along with a happy for now ending. Micha and Shelby's brother. Logan's baby sibling.

TL Hodel rules in the steam department with sexy times incinerating my Kindle. The two have held an unspoken flame for each other since childhood. Expect heat and variety in this story; Parker does not discriminate either racially or sexually, and Lana is all the happier for his openness and skill.

Some racial themes, this story is culturally aware, lovingly and sensitively depicting and embracing differences, and in fact making this interracial romance come to beautiful fruition. Classic, engaging style of TL Hodel, a storyline combining alpha males and their love interest with dark romance and dark humor. So much love, steam, mystery and suspense, added to the cadre of characters, Happenstance was a very captivating, thrilling, and romantic read. Every girl needs a Parker in her life. I can't wait for the next book to discover more about this world.

I struggled with this one, it was boring and completely confusing. I literally had the impression that I was reading a book about nothing.

This book on its own plunged me back into a reading depression. I never really understand what was going on and the characters felt and were incredibly flat.

This book had so many shortcomings that I can't even begin to get them out of my head. I thought the book was about two individuals in particular, Parker and Lana. However, it feels like it's about the other characters.

As for the plot, there was nothing going on in this book, and I had no connection with Lana or Parker, which made it difficult for me to indulge in their romance. It has no steam. Hence, the interaction or absence of romance between the main characters did not propel the story forward.

The plot feels like an afterthought posted at the last minute. Parker and Lana had no chemistry, as far as I was concerned. Although they ended being together after all that unnecessary heartache it still felt underwhelming.

As I read, I also felt like I was missing elements of their interactions. I also felt that Lana's hatred of him was somewhat exaggerated, just like Parker's sudden forms of control. I also felt like each character was a cardboard piece.

Parker was a super-sexist, incompetent, alpha aspirant; His Mother was outrageously racist and I never quite figured out why. Lana and Parker's friends are uncomfortable and annoying.

I just couldn't connect with any of the characters because they felt fake. I actually had trouble understanding Lana's motives. Lana explodes when Parker first avoids the drama, which is meaningless because it is a narration of an event that is not really carefully structured in the story.

There are moments when Lana appears inexplicably mad at Parker for absolutely no reason and sometimes you wonder if she might need anger management therapy.

The small romance we have in the book is quite mediocre as well. Instead, I think this book is more of a tale of two characters who tell us everything about everyone but themselves.

It was so hard to finish reading it and I would postpone it because it did not interest me or attract my attention at all.

Generally speaking, this book was a no for me. There's nothing worse than a dull love story that doesn't even have a redemptive character.

As we delve deeper into the Order of Ravens & Wolves, we are getting Parker and Lana's story in Happenstance.

In love since they were children, they have issues to overcome before we see their happily ever after. Not the least of which are the numerous secrets and Parker's possessive and slightly cray behavior. The quirky and sweet-natured Lana is his perfect match, loving him without judgment of his flaws.

This series keeps drawing me in because just when you think you've learned all the Order's twisted secrets, you're wrong and there are new surprises.

Disappointing

I was really looking forward to this book I enjoyed the last two and I was excited to see what was going to happen between Lana and Parker unfortunately it wasn’t worth the wait. Honestly would’ve preferred Preston or Mason story but it is what it is

I severely disliked Lana’s grandmother Nan I don’t think it is charming cute to depict the woman of color as a violent person who can’t seem to use her words they’re definitely could’ve been a better way to go about developing her character. She was extremely annoying and I dreaded every scene that she was in especially the scene where she’s hitting everyone I don’t understand it at all.

The story felt incomplete the end caught me off guard because I didn’t understand how we got to such an abrupt ending. There were things that were not resolved especially what Lana went through.
That includes her parents,Sean,, her Memories, mainly her memories that was a really big deal to me and I felt no resolve on that regardless of how she felt about it I needed more because it truly made no sense. Even Parkers mother I thought there was more that could’ve been done and again it was skated through and abruptly dealt with

I found it odd that there were no warnings or heads up on the M/M,MMF since I would’ve preferred to have known before hand but I was able to just roll with it. However I do find it a bit annoying to have him lusting after another man when he’s in a committed relationship and I’m not even referring to the threesome. And the lack of protection really bugs me considering they’re married and he’s having unprotected sex with another person, twice. Didn’t need the threesome especially since Parker and Lana‘s relationship hadn’t really been developed the way it should’ve been I wish the focus is more on them together. IDK W/E

It’s sad because I actually liked Lana but it just wasn’t worth the read I wish I would’ve skipped it.
Unlike other reviewers i did think She had a backbone but Parker didn’t do anything that she needed to use it for.

They hinted to Parker having a darker side maybe being a Sociopath but I felt like it wasn’t developed enough everything was kind of skated through including their connection and their love story. Because it was from such a young age there should've been more intensity between them but there really wasn’t.

It’s telling when the side characters are more interesting than the actual two characters that are supposed to be the center of this book. I was more interested in what was going on with Harper I found Riley to be a bit more aggressive than necessary Shelby was a joy.

I just felt like a lot of loose ends were not tied up and that was annoying I would not read this book again but if there are more books I think it’s important to read because you want to see what happens with the other characters.

it said book three of three so I’m wondering if the other characters won’t get their own because both Preston and Mason would’ve been better.

Star Rating : 4/5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : none

Hero : Parker

Heroine : Lana

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Triggers Involved : Past Trauma , Kidnapping and Abuse (not by the H)

Plot Summary :
Lana never had an easy life. With her parents being dead, the only family member she has is her grandmother. She was a child when she first met Parker. He was the boy with a scowling face who beat anyone who tried to hurt her. He was her knight. That Is until he showed his true colors. One weak moment and now her whole life has changed. She was pregnant with Parker's baby and permanently tied to him forever.

Parker has always had a certain type of obsession with the girl who used to entrance them when they were kids. She had this smile that she gave to everyone and it made him so angry. No one deserved her smile. Certainly not him. He was the dark prince who wanted her and knew that he would only destroy her. Him and his whole family was toxic. There was no happy ending for them , so he stayed away. But now things were different. She was going to have his child and there would be no one who would stop him from claiming her.

Overall Opinion :
Ever since the ending of Logan's book , I knew Parker and Lana were going to be absolutely amazing! They had this crazy chemistry and now they were tied up forever.

The whole Story was great and I loved seeing the other characters and their women. T. L. Hodel has done an amazing job of sucking me in this series and now I am totally hooked! I need to know more about every Character and how their story turns out. The wait is simply too much!

I highly recommend this series to all the Dark romance lovers out there! This book of this series was a bit tamer than the others since it did not have any DubCon or NonCon scene, it was more on the contemporary side. But it was still so amazing!

preg/sharing/skipped a lot

I really Enjoyed the first two books but he’s been a while since I’ve read them and I remembered this one finally released and I wanted to go read it. I knew it was going to be a pregnancy with a IR couple with a racist momma. It just lacked depth for me and it had multiple sharing or with OP and I skipped the shit.

-h I thought was black but she’s mixed… I think after the ending…
-H is kinda alpha but not like Logan and micha for the other books. He’s very sweet to Lana and loving. Supportive which was nice
-h is preg from the beginning. We don’t get much but we get a flashback to their one time together.
-like the others- the girl gets taken and we have a terrible thing happen while she’s taken ((SPOILER: possible trigger- she’s beaten on her stomach specially to try and force the babies out so they can kill the babies, she can’t protect herself much))
-this lacked depth over all… like the whole time she’s thinking she’s remembering being Rp’d but we don’t get much about that until the VERY END. She’s taken and hurt and BOOM- wakes up in the hospital so- like what happened after she passed out? How did she get saved! NONE OF THAT IS TOLD. Their is not any details- we got the meat but not side dishes, no sauce, hell we didn’t even get the GD free dinner rolls.
-OM :: the H is Bi. He is propositioned in the shower after practice and the h happens to come along and hears. H asks if she wants OM to suck him off, she nods- he lets dude, then pushes him against the wall and f**ks his ass for her to see. THEN- a assistant coach I think whose been kinda bonding as friend with the h, randomly shows up at their HOUSE, with a house warming gift and flirts a little and then tells her he wants to F them both, H walks into the house and hears… then puts h between them and they get naked, OM kisses all over h while H is behind getting them they move to a diff room, once h finishes- OM removes h, sits on H, puts h on his (OM) D and they all then come together. When OM gets on H, we’re in the H head like “my eye roll back bc he feels so good”, then it’s mentioned they make it a thing….
1) I don’t really like this type of thing BUT, I can get with sharing (like in book 1 it happens and it fit with the characters and I was fine). This I didn’t like. It didn’t feel like h was special. We see multiple “thoughts” of, I wouldn’t mind bending him over and etc…
2) our h was preg with his babies which he was all about and your letting OM fk her?… I can’t y’all… I’m sorry- judge me if you want. If you know me, or read any of my reviews or see what I read… I am in it mostly for a JP H, the more OTT obsessive and possessive the better for me. Not every H is and that’s ok bc I’m some stories it just works and i get all the feels. This was like he was suppose to be alpha but he wasn’t- this was not possessive to me and it just felt shallow.
-HEA
-Not standalone… each book is a diff couple but you gotta read them all.
-overall this book felt Super shallow. It was set up to be so much more but just fell soooo flat for me.
-not really steamy either.
***spoiler***
I have to put this bc it made NO SENSE… out of NO WHERE, we find out the h is a Russian mafia princess… WTF 😳 this did not fit AT ALL- idk if she’s trying to set up for a spin off series or what. And then Preston is possibly involved in the Bratva? If the cold, crazy psycho brother I’m hoping has an amazing story turns into a BS mafia book I’ll be crushed.

Soooo, the question is did I like this book or not?

Isn't that what we all want to know when reviews are written, whether to not the review liked the book. I can definitely say I absolutely loved this book.

I am going to be quite honest with you and say at the beginning I wasn't sure if I was feeling it, but it got past the 30% mark and it came to the point that I couldn't put this book down. This book was unputdownable and I was just living and breathing for these characters.

We first hint at something special in Scartissue and that of course bleeds off the pages in this book, although all is not what it seems. It's not all sunshine and roses and smooth sailings. Lana and Parker have such a complicated yet bumpy love story that is centred around twists that test these two individually and together.

This is a love story that centres around family drama, secrets and finally learning to accept. There is a huge splash of emotion, twists, action and so much steam in this book. You not only fall for these characters and their story but you fall harder for the secondary characters who play such important roles in each others lives that little snippets are shared of their lives that you just crave for their books.

Do yourself a favour and pick up this book as you won't regret it.

Loving this series! It’s giving me real Penelope Douglas Devil’s Night & B.B. Reid Broken Love vibes, if you enjoyed those you will absolutely enjoy this. So original, intriguing, dark, so much alpha, so many intriguing characters & I can’t wait for everyone’s story, especially Mason & Preston.

As soon as I was on the Last page of Logan's book...I knew Reading Parker and Lana's book and falling for their couple is inevitable in my future...and that's exactly what happened...
Although I would have liked to have more of Dub con scenes just like from the previous books...I felt like this was tame...but don't take Parker lightly..his book still will give you some triggers...so walk in this book with care.

Parker's obsession with Lana started from their childhood...his desire to see her smile his way turn into a dark obsession to possess her...
I love the most about author Hodel's book is there is so many side characters yet every character is detailed so perfectly...Like they are their own person...

All I need now is Chase's Book and of course Preston's book...these two are the one who have me crazy for them...

I really wanted to like this story a lot more than I did. It had my favourite tropes and a potentially great plot, so where did it go wrong? First, this story couldn't decide if it was a bully plot or a "regular" romance.
Lana has been in love with Parker since their childhood and vice versa. But for one reason, Parker didn't make the moves on Lana....but then goes ahead and lives out his polyamorous lifestyle despite this same reasoning. Didn't make sense. I knew about Parker's proclivity for this and wasn't shocked that there is MM and FMM in the story. However, I had a lot of issues with said polyamorous lifestyle....not as a lifestyle choice but as a character trait of the love interest for Lana. I think Lana deserved a partner that was 100% committed to her, not one with a wandering eye. At the same time, I think Parker deserved a partner that could cater to all his needs and not someone as naive as Lana. Therefore, this relationship didn't make a whole lot of sense. Throw in multiple partners while they haven't even established a committed relationship and it just all fell apart for me. I feel like Lana was not and is not built for the lifestyle choices that Parker makes and will eventually be unhappy and feel pressured to keep him happy. I just don't see this relationship working out in the long run. Add to that twin babies with one that is blind. It's just too far-fetched, but thankfully it's a story and everything should come out smelling like roses.

Also, we are saved from wondering about their reality because that epilogue was a joke. I honestly don't know why there was an "epilogue"....should have just said See next story for more. There was no glimpse into the future for these two. But hopefully we'll get a little more in the next story as this author likes to incorporate a lot of her characters into each others' stories. Can't wait to find out more about Mason and Harper! I really loved Mason and Mrs. Grier. LOL. I was also disappointed in having so many loose ends such as what happens to Parker's mom, Harper's dad, Lana's dad and mom, Luke. So again, hopefully we'll get answers in the next stories.

I was so invested in this story I’m not even sure where to start. The world has been built by now as this is book three in the series, but there is still so much going on, and so many secrets to uncover.

Parker was surprising. He has been the golden boy for so long, you don’t suspect what’s lying underneath. Lana is so soft and yet so fierce at the same time! And don’t get me started on Nan.

There is a lot of emotion, twists, action and steam in this book. I had a hard time doing anything but reading it. Highly recommend each book in this series.

oh ffs mason was my favourite character and even though this book wasn't about him, i really don't like him anymore. UGH. but i'm still looking forward to his book. anyways this story was THANKFULLY different to the other two, and i love love love parker. however, there was no action. it was kinda monotonous and then even the climax at the end went so quick. like they didn't even show it was resolved, which kinda ruined it a bit. all the connections seem kinda forced and could be developed a lot better. and some of the plots and concepts are vague and just brushed over without any depth. i just need some action.

Out of all the order of raven members I’ve got to say Parker is my favorite. Yes he pushed Lana away but it’s for her own good. He’s rather make her hate him than for her to have to deal with his racist mother. It isn’t until it’s revealed that she’s pregnant that his joy at the thought of being a father wins over any doubts he had of whether or not she should be next to him.

Lana hates Parker for what he did after their night together but it isn’t until she overhears his conversation with his mother that she realizes that all he’s ever done is try to protect her and keep her away from his mothers foul and racist words.

Secrets slowly start to reveal and one’s hatred almost leads to the death of loved ones. Will the Order get there in time or will it be too late?

UGHHHHHH y’all! This series keeps getting better and better and I already want more! Every book drags me back in and leaves me with so many more questions! I am obsessed and I haven't even made it to my most anticipated couple yet! While the others books had me on the edge of my seat this book was giving me ALLLLL the feels as I was reading it! Happenstance is a surprise baby romance with a swoony hero who won’t take no for an answer and a heroine who is one of the most compassionate characters I’ve read.

Parker, parker, PARKER! Dang if this boy didn’t swoop in and completely knock my socks off! I didn’t quite expect the group playboy to turn out to be such a sweetheart at times. His love for Lana and their baby showed so clearly throughout the book and my ovaries were exploding! Also, the man is HOT and I mean HOT! He wasn’t afraid to be open about his sexuality and that was such a turn-on. When he knew what he wanted he went for it and I loved that about him!

Lana was one of my favorite heroes in this series thus far! She is such a sweet character and her heart is so big! Almost everything she did was for the well-being of others because she cared that much! At times I swear I wanted to shake the girl a bit because there were some moments I couldn’t help but want to scream at her to put herself first. I seriously loved this character like a best friend and I can’t wait to see more of her throughout the rest of the series. Something tells me she’s gonna be super important in future books.

Parker and Lana worked so well together! TL couldn’t have paired them better! While it was a bit rocky in the beginning, their story worked out so well and I just couldn’t get enough of them! They are explosive when they are together and they leave you with absolutely no doubt of how they created their sweet baby!

TL has very quickly become one of my one-click authors because I am blown away by her work! Each story leaves me begging for more and wondering how she will spin the next couple's story. I love getting to see previous couples along with the current couple. The dynamic between this group of characters is like no other! If you haven’t one-clicked this series yet, you absolutely should! Just be warned it’s super dark and super delicious!

I definitely recommend reading this series from the beginning to get the full effect of The Order of Ravens and Wolves!

I’ll start by saying I’m not someone who has triggers . I think the book had too much going on. Bringing back “the piper” then not finishing the storyline. The prejudice/ racism and the character, Lana never standing up for herself or her Nan or others like them. If anything Preston who is supposed to be a sociopath has more of a caring tendency than anyone else in the book. Racism, sexual abuse, rape, bullying, Kidnapping, sexuality, teen pregnancy, death, stalking, then boom the mafia. It was too much and the storyline suffered because of it. I found myself having to dissect every word and innuendo in the story.
There were so many things that made me say wtf. But not because they’re dark but because they didn’t make sense or add up. Parker is community penis and I don’t think a man who is bisexual would feel he was done justice instead of being made to look like a California man hoe. There was a throuple moment and I was so confused for a man who is “alpha and possessive” to want to share his wife who is a pregnant teen mom with twins and a minor. With a grown man who he didn’t trust and assumed was a stalker. Then he has unprotected sex with several men in the story then proceeded to have sex with Lana, this was a WTF moment, totally irresponsible and didn’t show his love or having respect for her his wife or their babies. Infections, diseases were never a thought Parker was everywhere. And even more confusing he fu@#ed his friends in the order. Who are supposed to be brothers, his best friends, and straight men in relationships. It was just confusing and I feel like all the sharing is unrealistic and out of character for characters who are supposed to be possessive and alpha. I think The child sexual abuse angle was supposed to be the reason for the characters issues which is another thing I don’t understand for their parents, who they all have good relationships with except Logan, to allow that. Disturbing. Then you throw in THE BRATVA, which made no sense as readers we never knew Lana was mixed although I guess “ caramel tone” should have given that away. Then we like Lana were told her parents died, but really it’s what a mom and a stepdad… idk

Series: The Order of Ravens and Wolves
Book 3: Happenstance

OMG! Parker!

Book 3 is Parker and Lana's story - and I'll be real for a moment. I had zero interest in Parker when he was introduced to us in Book 1, and no building interest after reading Book 2 - even with the cliffhanger revolving around him.

All of our leading men in this series are a bit (that's putting it mildly) unhinged in some way or another and that's a big part of the draw to them. Parker just seemed so normal. I liked him just fine - but I wasn't intrigued by him.

Well - Let me tell you, he is not what he seems. He definitely has a bit of Preston hiding under the surface, he's just way better at blending in.

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite in the series so far.
I loved Parker with Lana. Rather than possessive, he was just really protective!
He was so concerned with making sure she felt loved and protected.
And there was no fighting it on Lana's part - She loved him and she knew it.

Their relationship and circumstance take front an center in this book (more so than any of the others), however there are still mysterious events occurring in the background regarding The Order. Quite a few events do not get wrapped up in this book, so I know it's building toward more in the subsequent books to come.

I don't want to go into a detailed story-line because it will just give way too much away and spoil the fun. If you haven't started this series yet, What are you waiting for?

Next up: Accident-Prone (Silas) - Can't wait!

Mmm 2.9 estrellas.

Less bully, more forced proximity

Parts of this series has gotten a bad rap. Kinda like Scartissue, Happenstance isn't really a bully book. (There is some detailed bullying between two side characters though.) It's much more of a forced marriage/forced proximity story. Don't get me wrong - that does NOT take away from this book. Just be aware of what you're getting into when you first open it. This is a well written story with more twists and turns than a Southern mountain back road, and like I've said before, these guys are absolutely addictive.

I love the opportunity to see a heroine who is pregnant throughout the book and not just in the epilogue. And the fact that the pregnancy isn't the measure of her happiness is something that I treasure. So many books rely on pregnancy for the happy ever after. Here it is actually more of a deterrent. Either way, watching Parker with Lana is heartwarming. The care and respect he shows her, even in a sometimes unconventional manner, is undeniable. He may not be the over possessive prick that some of the other guys are (but he does have his moments!) but he is decidedly one to keep an eye on. His sweetness is disarming. Like Lana, you'll never see him coming.

3 1/2 ⭐️ / 5 ⭐️

I have been waiting for Parker’s book since Aftereffect came out. I don’t know why but from moment 1 I was drawn to Parker as a character and became even more interested when his and Lana’s dynamic started to bloom in Scartissue. I didn’t know how T.Hodel was going to be able to create a book that measured up to the first two in the series — but she (somewhat) did!

A new character we meet (I won’t spoil who, but you’ll find out) had me laughing hysterically and crying! And Lana and Parkers relationship was new and interesting to see, as you don’t find a lot of characters like Parker written (We learn he’s bisexual right at the start of the first book in the series) where they are open and honest about their sexual experiences and desires. And believe me, there’s some steam!

The only think I will say that I didn’t like about this book was the ending. It felt almost like it was unfinished or rushed, which is such a shame because the first 80% is soooo captivating. But I just felt that there could’ve been so much more context and so much more done with the plot at that point then what was done. It just had to many bits that felt so completely random (almost written for the sake of having an ending) but also predictable and rushed.

I love the characters in this series and T. hodel doesn’t disappoint on that front. So I’m excited and hopeful for the next books in the series!

2.5🔥

I can’t believe how long it took me to get back to this series. As soon as I read the first page I was hooked again. Parker and his angel 🫠

Parker and Lana grew up together. Parker has been obsessed with Lana forever but has always kept his distance because his mother is racist and wanted to protect Lana from her. Parker is a member of the order of Ravens and Wolves, he is sort of a quieter member not really getting in on a lot of the action in the other two books. He’s done this on purpose to keep his inner demons at bay. While he’s not as reactive and crazy as the others he has no problem showing his true colors to protect Lana and his friends.

When Lana gets pregnant after one night with Parker he is ecstatic. Could literally not be happier. This means he gets to keep Lana forever. Lana is understandably terrified. We find out she’s pregnant in scar-tissue, book 2.

Both of these characters were great to read about. The book is super fast paced I couldn’t put it down. I’m so happy I don’t have to wait for the next to release and I can’t jump right in!

Tropes:

🐺secret society
😇 forced proximity

I actually liked the two main characters. I did not like all the random things happening in passing… oh the baby is blind… oh you’re a mafia princess… oh sure a threesome. It was like the author had two amazing characters to work with but did not focus on them, instead she chose to pack in friends and other couples and random events, instead of just focusing on the two main characters. The problem with series that has different intertwining characters is that bad writers try to jam all the characters into each book, making the book convoluted and unfocused. I do not need to know what the eight other characters and couples are doing from the last six books, I need to know what THIS couple in THIS book is doing.

Could have been a really good book because the two main characters were different and original, but sadly the author was not interested in telling their story. The author wanted to tell the story of Preston, Mase, Micah, Silas, Luke, Sean, Harper, Riliey, Shelby, Noah and everyone one else in that town. I would have very much liked a book about Parker and Lana, but instead I got a book about Parker and Lana and everyone else the author ever wrote about.

Love the entire series!

4.6/5 on this one from me. I absolutely love and am obsessed with this series!!! I have nothing negative to say, it just didn’t feel as intense as the first two books. I think that has more to do with these particular characters though, and that’s okay. I did wish there was a little bit more expansion around Luke’s character. I suspected who he was while reading, it’s revealed who he is, and then he’s gone. I’m hoping we see him again because I def enjoyed his scenes (wink, wink); I just wish there had been a little more meat to that whole reveal. The suspense ending confused me a bit; I may have to go do a re-read (for like the 5th time). The bonus scene was great! One thing that makes these books so fun to read is the dialogue. So hilarious. There isn’t a single character in this series that I don’t want to have their very own book. I can’t wait for more, and with the way TL Hodel is developing these characters, there’s so much potential content and I am SO here for it. Love, love, love!!!!
