I’m not a fan of physiotherapist (or nurse or doctor) romances with a patient because – hello – ethics/vulnerability/exploitation – but I was won over because the H/h were both such strong personalities.
Hero is French, the owner of a chateau and family vineyards and a wine-making business. A drunk driver hit his car and he injured his back when dragging the OW to safety. He’s home now and needs a physiotherapist to help him walk again.
Heroine is English but speaks French fluently. She has devoted herself to her career after she was jilted one day before her wedding. Her ex is a wine merchant and he will, of course, appear later in the story as an unwelcome OM.
Hero is cranky. Heroine is crankier back to him and actually slaps him when he has insulted her too many times. She writes out a letter of resignation, but hero won’t accept it. After this they settle into a better routine with the OW being bitchy to keep the heroine on her toes.
Hero has started walking with crutches when the OM shows up. Heroine realizes she doesn’t love the OM anymore and maybe she can move on with her life. OM wants heroine back and tries to rape her after a party. Luckily the hero, pulls him off and sends him on his way.
The heroine then leaves because she realizes she loves the hero and he is “engaged” to the OW. There is a cute airport scene where the hero blurts out that he loves the h, but it’s too late, heroine is on her way, swallowed by the crowd.
Heroine thinks it over and returns to the France before the hero can follow her for an HEA.
The H/h argue constantly, so if that bothers you in a romance, then you won’t enjoy this couple. Hero was obviously smitten from the beginning, which explains his cranky behavior. He wasn't particularly nice to the OW, either. All that engagement talk was in her own OW mind. Heroine really did have a backbone, which was nice to read. I think they will be the bickering couple who enjoy make up sex.
