From USA Today bestselling author A. M. Madden comes a second-chance, surrogate stand-alone romance that tests love through an unexpected detour.
Helping people is what I do best. I’ve made a career around it and dedicated my adult life to it. So, when my two best friends decided to start a family but weren’t able to conceive, it made total sense for me to become their surrogate.
Once I pleaded my case, and they finally agreed, I moved from New Jersey to Florida, excited for a much-needed change. But no one could’ve predicted crossing paths with the love of my life, the one who’d left years earlier, the one man I never got over.
Ryder Carter.
Despite how much we’d loved one another, life happened and circumstances pulled us apart. But he was back now, in Florida, single and still as gorgeous as ever. Even better, he wanted to pick up where we had left off. He wanted me.
Ryder appearing when he did couldn’t have come at a worse time. Because, even as just a surrogate, I had to wonder: Would he still want me when he learned I was pregnant with another man’s baby? Would he wait out the nine months to be with me? And even more important, how could I ask him to?
Not Turning Back is book 4 in the Breaking the Rules Series and meant for a mature reading audience.

A.M. Madden is an author who knows just how to pull on your heartstrings which she does so impeccably with book 4 in her Breaking the Rules series. While this is a complete standalone, I really enjoyed the previous book, Upside Down, which gives a great backstory on the love and friendships between some of the characters here in No Turning Back.
Riana has has been trying to mend her broken heart for years after the love of her life slipped away and never returned to her. Other men tried and failed to win her heart but in the end, only one still remains as a true friend. When 'he' became a 'they' with another man, she cheered them on, happy they had found a new life and forever love in each other.
Now she's made them an offer they couldn't refuse- to carry a baby for them when all other options have failed. Risky, yes, but she's doing this for her best friend and a new life elsewhere is just the change she needs. Decision made and process begun, but in walks a temptation from her past and he's standing right in front of her- Ryder, her long lost love.
Shocked, excited, scared, nervous- every one of these emotions becomes like an out of control freight train barreling straight towards them. I couldn't help but feel all the love and longing Ariana and Ryder were experiencing, all the angst of years apart, wondering who they were with and if their lives had moved on without each other in it. Tissues...... PLEASE!!!
She wants him, he obviously feels the same but one important thing is holding Ariana back from jumping his bones- she's made a solemn promise and is going to see it through...how could she expect Ryder to understand?? Talk about a wild chain of events! It seemed like a reunion with nowhere to go to me. WTH was going to happen???
Leave it to this talented author to spin a tale so sweet, sexy and mind blowing that I could hardly put this book down. Witty, heartwarming, tender and touching as Ryder becomes the man of any girl's fantasy and Ariana shows how huge a heart can truly be as she risks it all for friendship and love.
How this all plays out and everything leading up to it is up to you to discover and savor! Let me tell you, it's not something I've read in the past..new, different, shattering, intensely emotional but beautiful too. Make sure to read No Turning Back, because sometimes, you just can't change what fate has in store for you!
I was given a copy of this book to honestly review.
(audiobook) It’s okay, I didn’t need my heart. At least, there was also a lot of good feelings, romance and friendship. But with such a premise, I expected some angst, and I got it.
Right at the beginning, in the prologue, my heart broke for them. I loved that this part wasn’t just a flashback to explain why they weren’t together anymore, but that it also hinted at the problems they would be facing later on. Thankfully, the first few chapters were more positive, introducing Riana’s ‘after Ryder’ life and the people around her.
That’s also when the surrogacy is introduced. The idea of motherhood is a theme in the book, from the surrogate not-mother to the mother who sacrifices everything for her child. Fatherhood, through the soon-to-be fathers in the gay couple and Ryder’s resistance, is also a recurrent element. It felt like a lot of aspects of both were treated, making parenthood the main theme of the story.
The romance, though a bit fast for my taste, was sexy and cute. Ryder’s guilt-ridden devotion and the changes he makes in his life to nurse his relationship with Riana may have been too much at times, but were nice to read nonetheless–so far from the alpha males so often seen in romance.
The narration was good, though I wasn’t a fan of the narrator’s male voice. Sometimes, it lacked a bit of energy that I felt was needed. But it still a pleasant listen, and a good story.
Quickie
- Series: Breaking the rules #4 (can be read as a standalone) - Hashtags: #second chance romance #gay best friend #surrogate mother #pregnancy - Triggers: problematic pregnancy, mention of death, grief and substance abuse - Main couple: Riana Carter & Ryder Carter (not related) - Hotness: 4/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + the surrogacy for a gay couple was an interesting subject and treated with respect - – I felt they moved a little fast
No Turning Back is the next book in the Breaking the rules Series by A.M. Madden. I discovered this series last year when I ha the opportunity to read Upside Down which followed Ricky and Cooper's journey. I "met" Riana in their book, and was so excited for her story. As Cooper's best friend she wants nothing more than to make his dreams come true. Cooper and his husband, Ricky, are searching for a surrogate to carry their child. Riana makes them an offer they can't refuse.
Riana relocates from New Jersey to Fort Lauderdale (Novel Confessions stomping grounds for the win!) to become the surrogate for her friends, but also to start fresh after she is laid off work. Once in South Florida she reconnects with the love of her life. Things didn't quite work out for Riana and Ryder previously. Their love was strong, but their lives were in two different places back then. Now they must decide if they can work now with Riana as a surrogate.
I really enjoyed Riana and Ryder's journey. There was humor, heart and heat. These are a few of my favorite things. Although, I feel like I needed a bit more from them. A few parts almost got me there emotionally, but I still felt like I wanted more. All in all No Turning Back was a quick, enjoyable read. I rate it a solid 3.5/5 stars.
Helping others is what Riana gets a kick out of and when her bestfriend and his husband is looking for a Surrogate to carry their child...Riana offers herself as a surrogate...( love how selfless she was!!.) And when us doing this good deed..the fate decides to reward her (or punish her😜.) When her past comes standing in front of her... Will she be able to move on from the past tragedies and in the arms of the man she has always loved or is there still separation written for them? Gosh!! I freaking loved this story....the drama was oozing out of the story and the writing of the author is so flawless that it gets you feeling all the emotions... Riana was a selfless good and an amazing protagonist...her choices were so realistic that connecting to her was really easy.. Ryder was in for a very surprising turn of events...and when the truth comes out...he couldn't have been more shock....I love the history they have and a sweet second chance romance that took place between them...
4.25 stars—NO TURNING BACK is the fourth instalment in AM Madden’s contemporary, adult BREAKING THE RULES erotic, romance series. This is sports and entertainment agent Ryder Carter, and fund raiser Riana Carter’s (no relation) story line. NO TURNING BACK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Riana was first introduced in book three UPSIDE DOWN.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Riana and Ryder) NO TURNING BACK follows the rekindling romance between sports and entertainment agent Ryder Carter, and fund raiser Riana Carter. Three years earlier New Jersey native Ryder Carter was offered the opportunity to work in California, and left his heart broken girl friend Riana behind. Fast forward to present day wherein Riana is about to lose her job but an offer of a different kind pulls Riana to Florida where she will become the surrogate for her ex boyfriend’s baby but to Riana’s surprise Ryder has been transferred to Florida, and wants a second chance with our story line heroine. What ensues is the quick rebuilding romance and relationship between Ryder and Riana as Riana discovers she is carrying another man’s baby.
Riana was devastated in the wake of Ryder’s surprise move to California. Having had only one serious relationship in the aftermath Riana remained close friends with Cooper Stanton, a man who fell in love with Ricky Burrows. Wanting to help out her friend, Riana offered to be a surrogate, never expecting to reconnect with the man she has never stopped loving. Ryder Carter knew he made a mistake when he left Riana in search of something more. Reconnecting with the woman he has always loved, Ryder quickly asked for a second chance, a second chance that came with more than he could have ever imagined.
The relationship between Ryder and Riana is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people destroyed by one man’s need to move on with his life. A welcome to Florida get together brought Ryder back into Riana’s life, and Ryder quickly wanted to pick up where everything left off. Within a matter of hours, Ryder and Riana have scheduled a date, and there is no looking back for our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the us of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to Riana’s ex-boyfriend Cooper Stanton and his new love Ricky Burrows (Upside Down#3 ): Cooper’s sister Rebecca and her husband and cruise line owner Marco Puglia (Love on the Horizon #1): and Riana’s former co-worker Janie.
NO TURNING BACK is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a rekindling romance and second chances. The premise is heart warming and engaging; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are energetic and charismatic.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Riana has been plagued for years at the loss of her first true love. Ryder had been transferred across the county and their relationship has to end. Now they are back in the same city and when they see each other it is like things have never changed. But, now Riana is a surrogate to her best friends. Will he be able to accept this so that they can pick back up right where they left off? I really liked it. It was a different story line than I have ever read before. You guys don't want to miss this book.
What an unexpected second chance love story which yanked on all my heart strings. This book was a nice change from the simple boy girl meet and things progress as there bumps and circumstances which let me entranced and rooting for them to get together.
A.M. Madden has done it again. Heart Warming, Insightful and One to be Treasured for years to come. This story of Cooper's (Upside Down) best friend and originally his girlfriend at one point, Riana Carter. She has been plagued for years at the loss of her first true love, Ryder Carter when he was transferred across the country for his career just as her career was taking off. Although she tried to forget him, start over, move on something was always missing in her heart. When Cooper found his husband Ricky, Riana became a part of their circle of family/friends. And when the non-profit organization had to let Riana go, it was Cooper and Ricky that helped her move to Florida. It was Riana's love for Cooper and Ricky that led her to decide to give them the ultimate gift. She was to be their surrogate so that they might experience a family of their own. While out celebrating in Miami this incomprehensible decision and gift, Riana runs into the love she longed for from her past. When Ryder sees Riana all the feelings from the past flood his soul and he must reconnect with her. These two can not deny all that is in their hearts but the real challenge now is will their paths continue together or will life throw them another curve ball. And most importantly will Ryder accept Riana as a surrogate for her friends. Communication is always the key for any relationship and it is what these two must work on to make it as a couple. I love these two and was so excited to read another story from the Breaking The Rules series. It's also so wonderful to see glimpses of past characters. A.M.Madden has built a truly beautiful world that I have enjoyed getting lost in along with my daughter. We too have made it a family affair to read.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we get Riana Carter's story and are introduced to Ryder Carter. We originally met Riana in "Upside Down". As you will find out Riana was Cooper's girlfriend at the time even though both of them knew their was something missing. Well Cooper and Ricky are looking for a surrogate and in this book we find that Riana wants to be that woman for them. At first they both reject her offer to do this for them. Then when she explains everything they give in with conditions of course. One's she knows they will all follow less the wrath of Ricki's money. So when her job ends she packs up her life and moves to Florida to be not only closer to the guys but to get a fresh start. When she gets there she meets up with the one man she never thought she would see again the true love of her life Ryder. Ryder can't believe he walked away from Riana she was the one woman he can't ever seem to forget. When he sees her while at a restaurant one night neither knows the other's status but they both hope the other is single. Ryder is determined not to let his second chance with his first love slip through his fingers again. Can these two have that HEA or will the unexpected pregnancy and the job he has make that impossible?
This author is amazing. After reading this story you will be looking for all her books. These characters grab you from the first word and won't let go till the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Loved every page of Ryder and Riana's story. This 2nd chance love story has all the feels. Riana is so selfless on her decision to help Cooper. Their story was beautifully written and heartfelt.
I love this author and have read many of her books but this one was different in that it explores a subject that not many of us would think about - being a surrogate mother. Involved in the story are many characters from previous books including Cooper and Ricky and Cooper's ex girlfriend, now best friend Riana. Riana knows that it is time for big changes in her life. She lost the man she truly loved when he moved away for his job and she has no romance on the horizon, her job is coming to an end and her best friend Cooper has moved to be with his man.
How far will friendships really go for each other? Well when Cooper and Ricky decide that they would like to be parents, Riana decides to help them out by becoming their surrogate. This means starting a new life by moving to Florida and being spoiled and pampered by the about to be father's. What she was not expecting was to run into the man who broke her heart and wants her back.
I quickly became lost in this story but I was glad that it wasn't me dealing with the problems, worries and complications that were Riana's life especially when Ryder reappears. I had to wonder if she would be able to lose him a second time if he could not accept the situation that she was in. It would be so sad for her to lose her future happiness while doing such a good thing for her friends.
This story is really intense, though not a rollercoaster it flows along with ups and downs that you would expect in such a strange situation. Our heroine Riana is amazingly strong and seems to take everything in her stride. Cooper and Ricky are flapping about like two mother hens in the background even though they mean well some of their ideas are a bit outlandish. Ryder seems to be walking through a fog brought on by a past traumatic experience in his life. Even so A.M. Madden shows us how versatile a writer she is by pulling all the parts together and leaving us with a truly memorable story.
I've been a fan of A.M. Madden's for a long time, read most of her books and there was something so charming about No Turning Back that I couldn't help but root for Ryder and Riana.
I liked both of the main characters. They were strong willed and kind. Had big dreams and even bigger hearts. Hearts that ached for the what could've been if time had been on their side. But now that they were, unexpectedly in the same place, they knew this was their chance to get it right. All it would take was finally communicating and working through Riana's current situation and all the feelings it stirred in Ryder.
There was that moment when everything hung in the balance that had me reading as fast as possible. I was holding my breath right along with Ryder and the rest of the Ft. Lauderdale crew waiting for the news. From start to finish Riana and Ryder's low-angst, second-chance romance was high on heat and heart. And that ending, it was a long time coming and so worth the wait.
A stunningly beautiful second chance romance with a selflessness and acceptance that will leave you with that all consuming and loved up feeling inside. A chance meeting after years apart, a spark that has been buried deep that comes back to life like a force of nature, and a gift so precious it will bring tears to your eyes but have you in awe of the person with a heart of gold. Riana and Ryder’s story will pull at your heart strings and leave you with a feeling of completeness. A.M.Madden has left me with a heart full of love and hope because this story has all of that and is exactly what I needed. It’s a very emotional journey with all the love and happiness, and also a very real fear and the unknown. This is a book that will have you turning the pages, loving the words this author is renowned for and will stay with you for all time.
This book can be read as a complete standalone however i do recommend reading the others first.
Riana has been evaluating her life since she found out her job was coming to an end, her closest friend Cooper has moved from Jersey to Florida to be with his man, she has nothing really to keep her in Jersey but she does have a proposal for Cooper and his husband Ricky. She knows she'll have a fight on her hands but it's come a the right time for her and if she can convince Cooper and Ricky to accept she'll be starting a new life in Florida closer to her friends.
Ryder is a Sport Agent who left the love of his life behind in Jersey for a promotion in California with the hopes that she would one day join him but never actually mentioned that's what he wanted. Upon his return he found she'd moved on so he returned back to California alone and once again accepted another promotion that had him moving to Miami.
Is it fate or just coincidence that has both Ryder and Riana in the same bar on her first night in Florida, her friends threw a surprise party and that's where their paths crossed. The moment they sore each other was like life had sparked into them. They agreed to meet for old times to catch up but both knew they wanted more but would the reason Riana moved to Florida stop them from starting again, would fears hold them back, would communication be better or would it all go up in flames.
Well that's for you all to go find out, this book is total heart warming, witty and a few tears along the way. 5 stars all the way.
I absolutely loved this book by A.M. Madden, Ryder, and Rianna's story. They were once lovers and seems they were always in love even when Ryder broke Rianna's heart by moving away for business and altruistically not asking her to go with him. Now seven years later a chance meeting gives them just that. A second chance, abate at the worst possible time. Rianna had just moved to Florida to be a surrogate for her best friend Cooper and his husband Ricky. The story follows her love for Ryder, her pregnancy, and everything in between. This well-written story grabbed me from the beginning and held me there through the end. Smart characters, smart writing, smart story. I highly recommend this book. All her other books too.
Second Chance romance at the most inconvenient time! I love it when a story isn't so simple. The complications that arise in this book are unconventional and really interesting. I love the tension I felt between many of the characters and thank goodness Ryder and Riana were given a second chance because they compliment one another and give us a "They are so meant to be" romance. Reading this story brought out a lot of different emotions for me, I was elated, resentful, hopeful, and at times hesitant on how I wanted the story to continue. It was really good. No turning Back is intriguing and captivating and left me smiling when I finished.
Book 4 in the Breaking the Rules series. Please note, I did not read any of the previous books and did not feel left out. This book was sooo good! Riana has agreed to carry a baby for her best friend and his husband. Just when things get started in walk the “One that got away”! Ryder is the one, he is a sports agent who always knew that Riana was it for him. When these to run into each other it’s turned them upside down. Can it work this time? How will he feel about me carrying someone else’s baby? This was definitely a quick enjoyable read. I laughed Out loud and shed a few tears. I truly enjoyed reading this book.
This was such a different take on second chance romance. There was no crazy person out to get them, no cheating, no misunderstanding. Just two people who wanted the best for each other when they came to a fork in their relationship.
I also loved that the topic of surrogacy was brought into this book. The reasoning why was so heartfelt and her support system was amazing.
The love between Riana & Ryder was never questioned.
I sat down to read this & ended up staying up to finish it out. I didn’t want to put it down.
AM Madden, you simply are brilliant, and a true Angel on Earth. Second chance at love, second chance at a new life, and giving a couple a chance at having a baby. I spent most of my time reading this beautifully written book with my heart on my sleeve, and tears in my eyes. Ryder and Riana part because of his work, and are apart for a few years, then a lifestyle change and big move to help out her friends to have a baby, and then a chance meeting Ryder and Riana are together again. This time out the couple decide to be honest and up front, so that they don't fall into bad habits like before. If you have read previous books from AM Madden, you will be delighted with previous characters, but you can certainly read this as a stand alone too. This book has all the feels and then some. Have some tissues handy (you'll need them)
I’ve never read this author before but I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I couldn’t put it down once I started. A second chance romance with a ton of emotions, surprising twists, & best of all a happily ever after.
I loved the relationship between Ryder & Raina. You could tell they both loved each other more than words could say. Even if their communication sometimes wasn’t the best I really liked how hard they worked at their relationship.
I did like Cooper & Ricky at first but slowly I became less of a fan of Cooper. All in all it was a great enjoyable read that I’d read again.
This is such an amazing story, so full of strength, giving of heart and soul. You don’t find friends so selfless to give such a gift to their best friends.❤️ Loved how she brought in real life gift, medical issue, into this story. What understanding the love of your life is willing to share, for this to happen, don’t want to give anything away, other than this is a beautifully written story, full of emotion. Loved it❤️
A.M. Madden has touched my heart! No Turning Back was a heartwarming story of sacrifice and second chances! Such a wonderful gift to be given! So much love and understanding! Five heartwarming stars!!
Oh how I fell in love with Riana and Ryder. Their story of a Chance Meeting / Second Chances at Love and also the special gift Riana had for Cooper and Ricky. I love the way this Author writes she takes you on a journey with her characters. I want more. Love, Love.
A.M. Madden has written a beautiful second chance story with a difference an I loved it. The book starts with two broken hearts you understand why but it's still sad. When Ryder and Riana meet up again things are complicated but I liked that the reader could feel the longing and love between them. I liked that the author wrote about a couple who yes had insane chemistry but also two people who actually communicated liked adults. Like the characters the reader goes through many emotions and I loved the way the subject was tackled.
For me this book is a beautiful journey between friends thats highlighted by the second chance love story of Riana and Ryder. The feelings in this book are intense, and I loved every minute of it. 💕
I really wasn't sure how this second-chance romance was going to work, but I really enjoyed it! This book is Riana's story, and she was Cooper's girlfriend in Upside Down. Obviously, there are lots of appearances by Cooper and Ricky since Ree is acting as their surrogate, but No Turning Back is a standalone and it's not necessary to have read the other books in this series.
The fact that Riana runs into Ryder -- the one who got away, the guy who didn't fight for her -- just as her life is about to change in the biggest of ways was bittersweet. Does she put off a potential romantic reunion because she's about to undergo IVF as a surrogate for someone else? Does she miss out on the opportunity to try again with the guy she never got over? There are alot of big decisions that Ree has to make, and she doesn't take them lightly. And Ryder has many choices to make as well once he's filled in. Can he be with Riana as she carries another man's baby? Will his own painful family history with childbirth be too much and prevent him from supporting the woman he's still loved all this time? And what happens when Ree and Ryder -- neither of whom wanted children to begin with -- change their mind about becoming parents but are afraid to tell the other?
I thought that this story was so well-written. Ree and Ryder's communication issues is what blew up their relationship the first time around, and they really do try to not make those same mistakes. The tension in their rekindled relationship comes from them wanting to protect the other, and not because of the baby she's carrying, which I appreciated. I wouldn't have liked this story if Ryder couldn't get on board with what Ree was doing for Cooper and Ricky. But making their issues be the same issues that caused trouble the first time around -- and how they handle that now, years later -- showed great growth for both characters.
No Turning Back is sweet and sexy, full of swoony moments, sizzling chemistry and about a couple that is meant to be forever.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I absolutely loved these two!!! Riana and Ryder love story was straight out of a movie. They met at the dentist office waiting room where he couldn’t take his eyes off the stunning brunette and surprisingly had the same last name when the nurse called them. Even the nurse thought it was cute. Ryder stalked her afterwards and made his move and the rest was history. But then their jobs were demanding and separated them leaving them both shattered. Fast forward 3 years they’ve both relocated surprisingly again to the same State and close to each other. They ran into each other and at first there was some confusion about their current relationship status. When Ryder clarified that he was single and realized that so was she it was game on. He was upfront and told her how he really felt and wanted to pick up from where they left off. Riana was a bit hesitant because her beautiful heart was in the process of being surrogate for her friends. When she explained to Ryder he was very supportive and the rest was history. Ryder number one priority was her health and that nothing happens to her during childbirth since he was traumatized about a tragic event that happened to a family member. These two were solid and Ryder’s family absolutely adored her and were so happy that they got back together. When things almost turned tragic Ryder was a force to be reckoned with and at that time I really didn’t like Cooper who was her best friend and father to the surrogate baby. He overstepped during the story and Ryder had reached his breaking point. Ricky the other father and Cooper’s husband was the total opposite and amazing. Things finally got better and these two got their well deserved HEA with a little surprise that was amazing.
