First off, I just want to say this book does not happen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yes, lockdown does shove your mind in that direction, but that's not the case.

Aubrey has been in love with her boss, billionaire Damon, for years now. Despite her seemingly lax surfer girl personality, she works hard as Damon's assistant and he wouldn't be able to survive without her. To celebrate her fifth anniversary working as Damon's assistant, he takes her to dinner at a fancy restaurant where it's pretty obvious she doesn't fit in. Aubrey plans to finally reveal her love for Damon at the dinner since it's just the two of them, but finally saying it out loud and potentially ruining the friendship they have pushes Aubrey to drink. A lot. Tipsy but determined, Aubrey tries to tell Damon her feelings, but a kiss from Damon leads them both back to his place. After a one-night stand, Damon promptly tells Aubrey that it never should have happened and that they could just forget about it. Thus began a series of unfortunate events that pushes Aubrey to accept a new position with Damon's direct competitor halfway around the world, just to get away from Damon. But when said competitor tells Damon that he's signed a deal with one of Damon's major clients, Damon pulls Aubrey back in to travel to Saipan to convince them to backout of the deal. Now Aubrey's stuck in a foreign country with the man she loves who's pretty much rejected her after sleeping with her. One thing leads to another and they sleep together again, and are pretty quickly falling in love. Yay, great! Only Damon is pretty messed up by the concept of love and doesn't really think she has feelings for him. Except she does and now she's pregnant with his baby. But finally, they talk through everything, get their client back, and happily ever after.
So, I've read some of Holly's previous works, and like always, the romance between the two characters was pretty cute when they weren't fighting. But Damon was annoying to me. Yeah, he's got some pretty deep psychological wounds from his parents' failed relationship that pretty much ruined romance for him, but that doesn't mean he needs to be a jerk to Aubrey. I mean, Aubrey was kinda annoying too, but significantly less than Damon because she didn't have the trauma to work through. Most of the problems between them, honestly, could have been solved if they just sat down and talked everything through, but no, they have to make assumptions and overthink everything and hide away their thoughts and feelings. The entire lockdown situation in Saipan felt very forced and almost unexpected, but maybe that's because I barely know anything about the place. It definitely just seemed like a way to force the characters together to work out their issues and end up together. The unexpected baby plot element was a bit unexpected too, but then again, the first time they sleep together, it was basically a fade-to-black until Aubrey wakes up - alone - in Damon's bed. I'm just really glad Damon and Aubrey were able to work through their issues and get their happily ever after. The epilogue with the wedding with their baby girl, Coral, was absolutely adorable and actually felt like a good way to end the book.
So if you enjoy romances between bosses and their employees, billionaire heroes, and unexpected love babies, you'll probably enjoy this book. It was pretty good; not the absolute best but not the worst either. Pretty simple and easy to read, and you won't want to hit yourself in the head because of all the drama.
