I had no idea…

One may ask, if I’ve already read the actual novel, why would I need to read a “Summary and Study Guide”. Well, as I’m hosting my book club discussion of this wonderful story, I felt that a summary and review of its contents could only help me make the best of the discussion I will be leading.
Until reading this story, I had no idea about the “Blue People”. Reading this story simply reinforces in my mind how much prejudice can destroy lives and communities. Cussy Mary is our protagonist, as well as her mule “Junia” are the starts of this story. There are many antagonists, including Charlie Frazier (who we know Cussy Mary marries at her father’s insistence), his brother Vester Frazier, and certainly the attitudes and prejudices of the townspeople.
Though the townspeople shun Cussy Mary, her book patrons appreciate her and build a community among theirselves.
Good storyline, excellent example of how prejudices affect all of us.
