Her father is responsible for my father’s death. I’m not supposed to love her. But the alpha wolf shifter in me is obsessed.
Marissa is an entitled little brat. But she’s my brat. Her reputation precedes her, and everyone knows that she’s never up to any good. How could she be? She was raised by an evil father who happens to also be my neighbor. I’ve tried to get her out of my head. There are more pressing issues that I have to deal with.
Issues like finding a mate so I can inherit the ranch that’s supposed to be mine.
Just like always, Marissa has trouble cooking up inside her head. She’s planning something. And more importantly, she’s in trouble. It’s my responsibility to protect her. She may not be mine… yet… but she has my heart. And I’ll go to any length to save her from her father.
Each book in this sexy-as-sin series can each be read as standalones, and has no cliffhangers, but are best read in order.
So the whole let’s take a pregnancy test the next day thing completely made me hate this book. It’s not humanly possible to know in such a short amount of time. Two weeks is the basic timeline for early testing. So either everyone in the book is dumb or the author needs to do some fact checking before writing.
Loved this. After everything that happened to Marissa she wasn’t prepared for the way her life looked like now. The house she stayed in with the servants and father was now closed up the servants gone as they hadn’t been paid so now she was going to the Monterrey ranch. Marissa overheard Zac and his need to get a mate and have a child so he could get the ranch. Zac and his brothers raced into town to see the scene of their brother had been shot but their father killed and by Marissa and Carrie’s father. Zac and his brothers where surprised by the clause on the Monterrey ranch it didn’t go to the eldest it went to the first who was married and had a child. Zac was needing a mate and soon as he wanted to get the ranch and then sell it he was tired of the ranch and always having to look over his shoulder in case of more trouble. Zac wasn’t prepared for the reaction to Marissa even though he tried to stay away from her it wasn’t working and it ended up with him spending the night with her the bond between them now started plus she was now pregnant. The first day of her being pregnant and Zac walked into her being a brat to the staff ordering them about and saying things would be changing since she now would be head of the household. After removing Marissa from the kitchen and took her to her room he went into the study to find his brother in there who came up with an idea. Marissa walked into the cabin she couldn’t believe Zac had brought her up here and they where staying through the summer looking after the colts. The cabin was dirty needed scrubbing and Zac told her she would have to do it he had the barn to sort out. Marissa had just burnt another dinner she was tired and couldn’t seem to do anything right but Zac took her in his arms and all was right. The storm came quick Marissa never was scared of storms but this one did scare her when they thought it was over they realised that the barn was on fire they needed to get the horses out Zac gets caught and she realises how she loves him and can’t be without him. Marissa and Zac make there way back to the ranch as Marissa needs to see the doctor as the baby has started to move but when out shopping with her sister Carrie their father turned up wanting them back luckily Zac was there but her father saw Marissa pregnant and was mad. Marissa and Zac went back up to the cabin both of them agreeing they liked it there but a phone call has them worrying. Marissa’s father was seen coming to the cabin with his guards planning to kill Zac and Marissa as she was carrying Zac’s child a shifter. Luckily the Monterrey boys all turned up in time and dealt with threat to their loved ones and Marissa never making it to the hospital for delivery but having their little one in the cabin that they called home.
Marissa wakes up in the hospital after beaten nearly to death by her father. Her half sister Carrie is there with her. Of course she blames everything on Carrie. When she is finally released from the hospital Carrie and her mate Russ come to take her home. Marissa is shocked when they take her to Russ’s ranch. Carrie tells her the bank foreclosed on their father’s ranch and there is no other place to take her. Marissa tries to pull her spoiled brat tricks, but Carrie is having none of it. If she is going to stay there, she is going to work! Of course she tries every trick in the book to get out of doing anything.
Zac is the oldest of the 6 brothers. He hates Carrie and Marissa’s father and doesn’t want Marissa there, but his father insists it is fine. She has nowhere else to go. Shortly after she arrives, their father goes into town to run errands and is gunned down and killed by someone hired by Marissa and Carrie’s father. Zac is devastated and decides to sell the ranch and leave, but his father pulls a fast one on all of them. The first to mate and produce an heir will inherit the ranch. Since Russ has a head start, Zac turns to a matchmaking agency to find him a wife. He doesn’t care if they are mates or not. The first three candidates that show up are a total bust. However, Marissa gets wind of his plans and decides she will seduce Zac and get pregnant. Then she can get off of the stupid ranch and be a spoiled princess again. She finally succeeds with her plan, only to have Zac furious when he figures out he has been made a fool of. Unfortunately, not only does she get pregnant, but she is Zacs mate. He can’t stand her the way she is, but occasionally he catches a glimpse past the façade she shows to the world and see’s a vulnerable but strong person. As a last resort, he takes her up to a run down cabin in the hills for the summer while he trains the young colts. Will he be able to break through to her and get a mate and mother to his child or will she be too spoiled to ever learn how to be a loving wife and mother? Maybe Zac will learn a thing or two about himself in the process!
Book 2 in Serena Meadows Rancher Wolves, Rancher Wolf's Sassy Mate, was an easy to read, entertaining romp through Montana and the world of horse ranching. Yet, it was not as well written as some of Serena's other works. In Rancher Wolf's Sassy Mate, the characters were not as well -developed as I would have liked. I loved her main character Zac but kept wondering what his motivation was for many of the things he was doing throughout the book. And her female protagonist, Marrissa showed an extreme change in her personality , though believable, I inferred what was causing the change, only because I have experienced this in my own family dynamics. Once again, it was like a short ride on a roller coaster that had only one deep dip and no twists and turns. I think I enjoyed it because of my own talent for being able to escape into a story and become one with the characters, not because of Serena Meadows superb wordsmith skills. I am surprised as I have not had problems with her character development in the past. I also feel the fated mate connection ,if emphasized more, would have helped to make the characters to seem more believable. Again, it may be my understanding of this bond, that made me see what was not written into the story. Zac's shifter connection would have allowed him to see Marrisa's cracked soul and allowed him to see what was needed for her to grow. I think knowing and believing in soul-mates, made it easy for me to understand the transformation in both characters. I am not sure other readers will see it as well. However, it was a lovely interlude, an escape from my day to day routine of housekeeping tasks. I am on my way to catch up on some of that before diving into book 3. See you in Montana on the Monterey Ranch!
I ended up liking the book by the end But the beginning really confused me and unfortunately I think I was reading to the end just to write a bad review… After Zac’s father died he HATED Carrie and Marissa’s father and hated them by extension. Prior to the will being read he was ready to walk into the meeting and announce to his brother’s he was selling the farm and they’d all go their separate ways… so when the will was read and they found out about the legacy clause it mean Zac was off the hook for becoming alpha… WHY DIDNT HE JUST LEAVE?!? I found it real hard to get past this… who thinks we’ll now I have to hurry and have a kid so I officially become Alpha and can sell the family land? Then another hard sell is the fact you decide to have a kid with you enemy’s daughter, someone you proclaimed to hate (I mean I’ve read enough shifters stories to understand the whole you don’t choose your mate thing, so this was easier for me to overlook) There was also flaws in the pregnancy test scene, you don’t go to the drug store hours after having sex and then expect for the test to come back positive… again shifter book, so maybe in this fantasy world shifters can tell pregnancy at an accelerated rate… I enjoyed watching Marissa grow as a person and their time spent In the cabin so I ended up giving the book 3 stars But it was real hard for me to understand why Zac did t just leave the ranch after his father died
Serena Meadows has done it again! This is a great story with some great characters who see in each other what no one else can see.
This is the story of Zac and Marissa. Zac is the eldest brother of 6. Zac is not really feeling like he wants to stay on the ranch any longer and has been restless. Marissa is Carrie’s sister. She is 100% a spoiled brat – this is not by any fault of her own, but because of the way she was raised. She is only out for herself. After her father had abused her to get back at Carrie, Marissa went to live with Zac’s family (Russ is married to her sister). No one was happy about Marissa being there, least of all Zac – but when he saw her, he was immediately drawn to her. Of course, Marissa saw this as a chance to get what she wanted. Zac and Marissa seem to have this love/hate relationship going on. When Marissa ends up pregnant and starts ordering the household around, Zac has to step up and figure out what can be done to show Marissa she is better than what she is portraying.
This story is filled with tragedy, betrayal, chemistry, passion, loyalty, suspense and finding out what it means to be a part of a family is all about. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series to see what happens with Alex and Gwen.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy through Booksprout ARC’s for an honest review.
This is the second book in the series. They should be read in order. This book picks up not long after the first one ends. Carrie (from book #1) feels for her sister Marissa. Marissa has nowhere to go. Their family ranch has been foreclosed on. Their father is in trouble with the law. Marissa and Carrie couldn’t be more different. Marissa’s has been turned upside down. She hasn’t ever had to work or do anything. She uses her body to get what she wants. Now she must find a way to deal with her new life. Will she fall back on old ways or will she discover who she really is and what she is capable of? Zac thinks they need to sell the family ranch and move on. He has been tired of ranching for awhile but never takes a break and thinks he knows best. Then they all get a surprise when the family will is read. He needs to come up with a new plan. Then there is the way Marissa has been making him feel. He doesn’t want to like her but the wolf has other ideas. Marissa and Zac find themselves in an interesting situation. Did Marissa just use Zac? Is the side of Marissa Zac saw real? This was a great read. I am loving this series. The brother’s shifter side is rarely mentioned in the series unlike other shifter books. I can’t wait to read about the other brother’s finding their one. They are fairly short reads. I have the boxset with the whole series. Great job Serena.
Once again we are with the six brothers that own the family ranch or should I say their father owns We met Carrie and Russ in the first book in the series and now we get Zac who is Russ's brother and Marissa who is Cassie's sister She wakes up in hospital to discover her sister and her mate are their she cannot return home as her father has lost the family ranch so she can no longer be the princess she wants to be. Cassie and Russ take her back to the ranch where she instantly clashes with Zac as he thinks she is a spilt brat. Then the brother learn something their father's will states whichever son produces the first child will inherit the farm With Cassie and Russ already mated they have a distinct advantage so Zac knows he will have to do something drastic Soon he is trying dating sites but nothing is working Marisa sees her opportunity and seduces Zack thinking if she gives him a child then she will get to be the ranch princess again. Zac isn't happy when he realises her plan especially as his wolf has decided she is his mate Can he get her to be the woman that he catches an occasional glimpse of and can they have a future You will have to read to see
Zack is the oldest of 6 and he was destined to own the ranch when his dad passed. He wasn't looking for love and when Marissa, Carrie's sister was injured in the last book, they took her in. Zack was warned that she was a player and well a selfish brat. She took it to new heights, not wanting to be tied to the town where she grew up especially after learning her father was broke and they lost the ranch.
Marissa and Carrie's dad had Zack's dad killed. When the will is read stating that the first son to have an heir will own the ranch, Zack hatches a plan. One that will split the family apart. Marissa overhears his plan and sets out to be the woman he impregnates in order to get her out of town.
The story was an easy read but I have read other sifter stories before and they all have transformed back to their birthday suits. It seems when these men shift, they are fully clothed again. I didn't like Marissa at first, she was young and immature but she grew on me. She became the woman she was meant to be.
I liked the stories and the characters enough to continue on in the series.
Marissa wakes up in a hospital after her father has beaten her. She has no place to go but with her sister but she isn't being under any illusions no one wants her around. Zach is drawn to Marrisa despite everything he had heard about her. When his father is killed and he learns that the family ranch is being left to the first grandchild he starts looking for someone to have one with. Its not long before he turns to Marissa. When Marissa's spoiled tendencies rear their head Zach takes her to hand back packing them up to go to the family cabin to stay. Soon Marissa was loving it which surprised even her. However her father wasn't done causing trouble so they had to take preparations to be on the lookout for him when he got out of jail temporary. Will they take her father down safely? Will Marissa finally get her happy ending?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written andvery entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Zac runs the Prairie View ranch with his father and brothers. Carrie is married to Russ Zac brother. When Carrie’s sister is beaten up by her father and ends up in hospital Carrie decides that Marissa has to go stay with them to recover. Then Thomas Marissa’s father is arrested and jailed. He gets some of his men to kill Zac’s father in a drive by shooting. Then Zac can’t stop thinking about Marissa though he thinks he is too old for her., he also thinks she can be changed from the way she is. They have one night together and she ends up pregnant. To try and change her attitude he takes her up to the mountain cabin. When she opens the door the place is filthy as no one has been there in a while. He leaves her to clean the cabin while he gets on with jobs and is surprised to discover how good a job she did. This then goes on to tell there story which you have to laugh at her attitude to start with then she how loving she is later
There is much going on in this story. Marissa comes from a neighboring pack. She is a spoiled, obnoxious brat, and her father was an evil, cruel tyrant. Zac and his brothers help their dad run the ranch, but Zac is getting tired of the battle with the neighbor and the ranch life in general.
When Zac’s father goes into town by himself, he ends up killed. The son who inherits the ranch will be the one who has a child first. Zac starts to look for a mate, but isn’t having much luck. But when spoiled Marissa finds out, she decides to seduce him. Her plan works and she ends up pregnant. She also turns out to be Zac’s true mate! But he hates the way she acts. Will he be able to convince her that she doesn’t need to act the way she does? Can he teach her what it would mean to act decently without the negative drama?
The second book in the series - The story starts immediately after "Rancher Wolf's Next Door Mate". The first book ended with Carry being rescued and her sister Marissa in hospital, due to the beatings their father gave her. With the father in prison, the house foreclosed and no money of her own, Marissa is taken to the Monterey Ranch. On the same day her father had Monterey Senior killed, and one brother injured. Hearing the will the children find out that it is not necessarily the oldest who will get the ranch, but the first to produce a child.... Zac, the oldest, starts fighting for his right and is trying to find a wife real quick.... An interesting beginning, especially as he is attracted to Marissa, despite of who she is, and despite his knowledge of her past. Entertaining and fun to read. a spoilt and petty female and an angry restless male ( a match made in heaven ?)
Part of a series but easily read as a stand alone ( no cliff hangers but there is a hint of who has a story next at the end ) A spoilt and demanding human with some major problems and a terrible home life . A wolf shifter who is at the end of his patience. A surprise in a will . and a race to produce a baby with no thought to the consequences ... a recipe for disaster or a very different shifter romance story that will keep you interested till the last page ( could easily have been stretched out a bit longer with some more details in parts but a great story )

I have to say that Marrisa and Zac make a great couple. There is an age gap. Zac is a hard man but Marrisa is a spoiled brat that thinks she is entitled to everything. That isn't her fault she was raised to be like this. Zac can see potential in her after he realizes that she is the one. There is a ton of drama within this book. It is great as the next installment of the series. Zac is the eldest son. He doesn't want love as he feels it will make him weak. Marrisa just wants everyone to do what she tells them and to be boss and get what she can. Zac just needs an heir. Will Marrisa and Zac become the couple they are meant to be? Or do other forces come between them?

We really get a chance to follow more of Marissa's journey in this story. What happened with her father before she helped him get her half-sister, Carrie? What happened after the failed attempt to marry Carrie off? What vow does she make to Carrie? WHo and where is Zac? What do we learn about him? Marissa with her scheming ways made my blood boil. What happened one day that Gabe and Zac made a plan that Marissa did not appreciate? What happened when Thomas saw Marissa and Carrie in town? What ultimately happened in the story had me gasping and then cheering at the end.
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Marissa and Zac have everything working against them and very little working for them. They are from packs with bad blood between them and it is piling up as the pages turn. She is a spoiled young woman who needs someone to be strong enough to get thru to her. He does not want her to be his mate, he despises her. When she leaves Zac with no choices, he makes a last ditch effort to salvage it all and packs her up. Soon they are both learning more about who the other is and some new things even about themselves. They can have a happy future together as a family if they can get past all the obstacles in their way.

I purchased this bundle written by the author, called RANCHER WOLVES.
Not much to like in this story. From awful heroine who is a spoiled brat, to the H who is only thinking of himself, selfish doesn't describe him. These two deserved each other!
There is tragedy from a character I liked in the first book who is killed. No-one mourned him at all, nor even barely talked about him.
Lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 3 out of 5 and since I didn't feel a connection to them, was just sex.
Another abrupt ending where the outcome is not even told or how it was resolved. The ending was okay. I don't feel this is a standalone story. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, no romance and sex. (ljb)
Marissa's father was pure evil. He's been after his neighbors ranch for a while. When he's beaten her pretty bad and ends up in the hospital, things go from bad to worse. Zac and his brothers help his dad run the ranch, but Zac is beginning to hate the war with his neighbor and the ranch life. But something bad happens when his father goes to town by himself. Too make matters worse, the oldest doesn't inherit the ranch, the first son to have a child does. There's action, and Marissa is a spoiled brat, but things happen for a reason. HEA. No matter what your lifestyle, its not always perfect. We have a story of Marissa, who is a girl who has had what ever she wants, until one night and everything changes. Zac is struggling with his life and wants a change, but can he tell his family and do it? Then Marissa shows up and he can't stand the spoiled brat. Marissa is overhears things and starts to scheme. Zac doesn't understand this feeling he is having around Marissa, he needs her gone. What will he do when things change? What will he do when he finds out what she is doing?

I can't even start. Some parts of the story (paranormal or not) just don't make any sense (like the pregnancy test hours after they had sex for the first time). Marissa... I didn't like her. At certain point I almost could empathize with her past, but then she 'open her mouth' and I just couldn't anymore. Her 'redeeming' arc is barely existent and even if you don't blink you miss it. Zac... Just a big baby with a power (if you can call it that) rush. His I-am-gonna-sell-the-ranch-because-I-know-better-than-my-brothers-what-his-best-for-THEM got on my nerves quite a lot.
At the end of the day, they do deserve each other because they're quite alike.

RANCHER WOLF’S SASSY MATE This is the second tale in the “Rancher Wolves” series and it does not disappoint. This installment is as sad as it is funny. The main Characters Marissa and Zac have a tumultuous love/hate relationship. These characters are authentic and realistic with a chemistry that is intense as well as destructive. Their interaction sizzles across the pages and keeps you glued to this tale, and definitely makes this worth the read. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review
We are again pulled into the lives of the Prairie View Ranch residents. Zac is the eldest brother and is not sure he wants to stay on the ranch, things change when his father is gunned down in cold blood and the contents of his will are brought to light. Marissa has been spoiled for her entire life and must now figure out what she wants out of life. The story keeps you involved in the lives of the characters and does not let go.

It was good to see the transformation in Marissa and how they came together. It has a decent storyline but the end kind of just dropped off. She’s in the snow, and he’s telling her he’s not going to let dad live because he’s going to go help the brothers and the next thing she’s having a baby with no transition into what happened before the baby came. Editing was a bit problematic for me too. But all in all, a good read and fit in well with the previous book. I am looking forward to reading the next story.
Zac could not wait to get away from the ranch, his brothers and always watching out for trouble. Then tragedy, his father was killed by his sister in laws father. Marisa was forced to stay with her sister and the family she had married into. She needed away to escape, get back to the life she had. Surprises are a shock as the will doesn't give the ranch to Zac, but to the first son that had a child. Read how Marrisa and Zac plot ways to escape and how dangerous her father still is.
Marrissa is a spoiled brat due to her upbringing and then being abused by her father she goes to live with Zacs family and he is not happy about it until he meets her. Zac thinks he is too old for her and also knows she is better than she is portraying.
This one has a hate love going on, drama. Loved the characters.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Rancher Wolf's Sassy Mate by Serena Meadows is the second book in the Rancher Wolves series. This is a fast paced story that has an interesting pairing. Despite all the chemistry between Marissa and Zach, even I wanted to smack her upside the head at first! I love the way the characters grow and the drama is tinged with some humor. A great read that keeps your attention.

Melissa Smithfield is beaten unconscious by her father, and ends up in hospital. Her sister visits, and is accused by Melissa that this was Carrie's fault because she wasn't there when their father started beating her, Melissa. Melissa ends up at her brother-in-law's ranch where she learns that her entitled attitude doesn't win her any favors or respect. Her battle to understanding her new world is tough on her, but things do become clearer to her.
Marissa got out of the hospital and being herself causing problems for everyone. Her father had Zac’s father killed, She seduced Zac was going to use him for things she wanted and her father was causing problems too. But they finally worked things out between them and took care of her father too. Great book!

Marissa overheats a conversation not meant for her ears and plots to use this knowledge to get out of town. She decides to seduce him but instead falls in love. Will Marissa get her HEA or will her conniving father destroy everything and everyone she loves?
