Oh dear this is bad, really bad. The only reason I actually finished this book is because it is so short and a buddy read and I didn’t want to let the others down. Otherwise this would have been DNF after about page 5.

The writing seemed childish to me, the structure of the writing odd, the obvious was stated unnecessarily, typos scattered about. The whole thing was really amateurish.

This was not really horror, there was a little bit of gore on the last couple of pages if that counts, but it wasn’t very good. Nor is this erotic, nor a very good version of a fairy tale. This is absolute rubbish, there is no imagination to be found here and no writing skill. I can’t remember the last time I read such a truly awful book.

I would like to give this zero stars, why there are so many 5 star reviews is beyond me!

This was... not as advertised? It was fine if you like fairytales seemingly written for a younger audience. I was expecting more detail, more nightmarish stuff. I did enjoy the twist on Cinderella's personality and overall fate, but the writing and lack of horror let it down.

Twisted and brilliant

Absolutely loved Emerys take on this classic fairy tale. There was everything I expect and love about Emerys writing. There's no fluffy poor girl that wants to live happily ever after with Prince Charming no this is about a scorned daughter that wants her revenge and the silver fox that makes her tingle.Fantastic!!!

Contains: A fairytale retelling, a questionable twist, and violence.

Genre(s): Retelling

Summery: After the death of her father Cinderella finds herself being the servant to her horrid step-mother and step-sisters (pretty standard). In this retelling of the fairytale, Cinderella's step-family are truly violent and Cinderella herself fights back.

What I enjoyed: I've certainly never read a retelling quite like this one before. I certainly enjoyed the twist on the usual tale, but it was all so sudden.

What I didn't enjoy: It was written as though for a younger audience despite the theme of violence, and I couldn't get past that.

Official rating: 2.5

Reason for reading: Book club book

Brilliant and Surprising Twists

Retelling a fairy tale is tough. I commend the author for surprising me several times throughout the story. The story is exactly what you think and at the same time, not at all.

Loved it!

Winning

Wow, this is a great read. Definitely a twist to the old fairytale. Emery really brings some gruesome aspects to this story. You definitely can't put it down. It is so creepy good. Snap it up.

Dark retelling of a childhood classic

If you ever need the darkest, most depraved retelling of a childhood classic, then look no further.

Only Emery could make this work the way it did.

A super short and dark retelling of Cinderella. It had some elements of the common tale but did have new unique elements with a darker twist. As far as the darkness is concerned, I thought it was rather tame.

Deviant Cinderella

Such a deviant and twisted take on a timeless classic. I prefer this darker and more violent Cinderella to the meek littke servant girl.

Finally the step family gets what they deserve

Short and to the point, this spin off of Cinderella is twisted and ends with revenge. Thats my kind of fairytale.

Best Fairytale EVER!

I wasn’t expecting much from a story based on a fairy tale. But, this! This is so much more! I can only hope the author rewrites many classic tales!

Short and not so sweet

I really enjoyed this version. It was a short, quick read and gave meaning to the title. I never imagined I would see Cinderella in this light.
