The only thing harder than stepping out of your comfort zone is trying to squeeze back inside it again.
Blue’s a builder. A content one, now that she’s found a town that respects her skills and it’s finally stopped raining.
Grim wasn’t expecting anyone to walk in the door of his studio, but he knows better than to ignore the clay when it starts whispering. He just wishes it had something a little less mysterious to say about the woman with dusty boots and wary eyes.
Romance isn’t what either of them are looking for. But it might sneak up on them anyhow.
I highly recommend this book. Another excellent read from Audrey Faye. A peaceful, lovable, quiet story that serves as an antidote to these crazy times.
I was already fond of Blue after meeting her in Indigo and this story fleshed her out wonderfully.
Blue was content with her life and settling into her new community. Then love found her.
Grim is a delight. And I love his relationship with clay, and Blue, and the community.
Perception Bay and its residents continue to appeal.
Violet, Indigo, Drew and a growing cast of characters increase the story's appeal.
Suspect that Violet's story will be as unique as her. Can't wait to find out.
One of my favorite authors has done it again. She's written a story about people that just sucks me into their world and makes me want to be a part of it. Indigo, Blue, and Violet have been the closest of friends since grade school. They've moved to Perception Bay and are the proud owners of a store called "Shenanigan's". This book centers on Blue. Blue is a builder and a fine finish carpenter who "loves old things and wants them to breathe". She has a failed marriage behind her and years of having to prove herself as a woman in a male dominated field. She's not looking for love and, with the exception of Indigo and Violet, tends to keep to herself . Grim is also a builder, but his medium is clay. It whispers to him, telling him what it wants to be. He sees Blue - really sees her - and likes what he sees. Can Blue shake off years of painful memories to embrace the present? Can Grim get past the defensive layers that have been protecting her heart? If you like wonderfully written characters who end up feeling like your own friends, a good story and a clean romance with a good dose of the paranormal woven throughout, this book is for you!
The second instalment in Audrey Faye’s “For the Love of Purple” series features hard-working builder Blue, and the spark that wonky cups, dirty hands and warm eyes brings to her guarded heart.
Blue isn’t looking for love, in fact she is actively avoiding it. And while in Audrey Faye fashion the tale never divulges the depths of past pain or what put it there, Audrey skilfully walks us through the steps of friendship, trust and understanding that can mend it.
This is a lighter read than Audrey usually offers, and is well in line with her stated wish to provide us readers with something brighter during these dark times. I found Blue easy to read, full of swirls and sparkly moments of joy, and underpinned by the slow, steady, warm and gentle building of a really special relationship.
A great read for any fan of Audrey’s previous work, and any reader looking for something light and fun to read!
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I have to say, I LOVED Blue. It was the book I needed at the moment. Each of the characters has their path to walk and Blue's path struck a chord with me.
Her barely budding romance with Grim is the overall premise, but more important I think, is how Blue comes to see herself and her support system that she doesn't realize she has.
Every Audrey Faye book seems to have a touch of the mystical in it, and this one is no different. Grim is constantly referring to what type of clay a person is. If this is your first or second Audrey Faye book, that can be a bit overwhelming, but the idea of understanding people on a non-typical level is part of what draws me to her story telling.
It's not necessary to read Indigo to enjoy this book, but it does explain a bit about the dogs...
This book made me so happy! I love Blue and Grim! Just like Indigo, this book left me with warm fuzzies and was such a comfortable book to read.
I am continually impressed with each new book I read by Audrey Faye as I fall in love with every single character she introduces. I honestly don't understand how she is so good at writing so many unique and relatable characters in each and every one of her books.
I already knew and loved Blue from reading Indigo's book but I wasn't sure how I felt about her getting a possible love interest. That is, until I met Grim and experienced their interactions together. I should know by now to never doubt Audrey with her characters.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a character driven story or had enjoyed any other books by Audrey Faye.
I liked this one more than the first in the series. It was very sweet and tenderhearted - that's the only word I can think of. We don't get very much information about Blue's past relationship/husband other than it ended poorly and she doesn't feel worthwhile. It also seems she has been treated "less than" as a female in a male dominated profession. Grim is presented as having a sixth sense in some ways, but that is never really explained or expanded on. I do enjoy the friends the girls are making and the town in general seems to be very open and charming. I'm interested in what Violet's story will be like.
So happy I decided to take a chance on the book cover. It was like floating in a pool on a summer day. Very enjoyable and relaxing and just what you didn't realize you needed. I'm so excited to explore other works and find the not in them. It's not a fast paced story, it's like listening to your best friend tell you a story with slow unexpected detour to get to the end. After finishing the book at 2am since I couldn't stop myself I do highly recommended the book.
I don't remember Grim much from Indigos book, however I really like him. He reads people very well. He's just what Blue needs patient. He doesn't label what kind of relationship they have. He mostly lets her come to him. He doesn't chase her. I think out of the 3 girls Blue would be the hardest to find love because she was so unlucky in love. She was the only one to marry & divorce after 10 years. I can't wait to see who Violet ends up with & get more on her backstory.
Blue has been the solid one. While she has no paranormal talent, she easily accepts it. A talented finish carpenter, she has supported her quirky friends since they met 35 years ago. Her failed marriage shook her. She is quickly finding her place in their new town. Her skills are in demand. She has even taken on an apprentice, 17 year old Trina, who she sees herself in. Grim grew up in Perception Falls. A talented potter. The clay speaks to him and he listens. He is drawn to Blue. While Blue is gun shy she gives Grim a chance. Grim doesn't disappoint. A gift of a shed and quiet and enthusiastic apprentice with a town that needs her skills, has Blue finding her place in her new town. A sweet small town paranormal romance. Not a stand alone. Needs to be read series in order.
I have read all the author has written. Her characters always make me wish that I could actually meet them. She has also written a series about Modern Witches under the name of Deborah Geary. I have all of them except the last one. I hope one day she'll release them again. I understand why she stopped but I really need at least the last one. I'm ready for the next book in the series.
So much lighter and more grounded than the last book. I really am enjoying the world building because this town is Awesome!! I like that we don't get Blue's sordid past or that the author makes her ex out to be so much of a villain! It made me like this book better. I am still chafing on not getting the how and why of these 'powers' that are present in almost everyone. But I suppose it will be revealed in the next one!
These books are absolutely stunning to read. The words ebbs and flow, wrap around you, then let you go. It’s a beautiful careful journey into two people falling in love. A look at what the world would be like if we took time to truly hear, list and connect. They are enchanting with hints of magic that doesn’t takeaway from the hard work of learning ho go grow, love and take a chance
This is my favorite kind of Audrey Faye book. Full of love, community, practical magick and whimsical, grounded joy. Every time I step into one of her worlds my heart and soul sigh in relief because her characters feel like precious family, both the kind that made you and the kind you make along the way. Ready for book three!
This book as well as the previous one Indigo speaks to my soul. Audrey writes a beautiful and touching story of each woman and her community. A story of not only love but paths and interaction subtle and not subtle with a healthy dose of the mystical. Highly recommended.
I was supposed to be working but I read Blue instead. I REALLY did not want to put this book down. The story of how Blue opens up to fun and unpredictability, the warm friendships, the natural dialogue, the intriguing quotes at the beginning of the chapters - all had me enthralled.
I’m an Audrey Faye fan, so no surprise that I enjoyed this book. It’s relatively short with no major suspense but with a lot of magic of developing trust. I adore all the metaphors of the builder and the potter. Healing balm for this time of uncertainty.
Despite fact I enjoyed it, this is a novel not fiction. Intricate characterization, glowing prose, radiant descriptions.
Blue is an inspired crafter with great friends but she has lost faith in romance. Unprepared for perceptive and gifted man, inappropriately named Grim.
This author has some of the best series of books I’ve read. I absolutely love the communities she creates. I would sell everything I own to be able to find a community like hers to live in. Lol. If you haven’t read the Ghost Mountain series…do! Right now. Awesome books! The Witch Central series is spectacular! I’m going to reread them!
I love this series, it's so timely in this space we are currently navigating through as a world. It's about opening your heart to love, being brave, and following your inner guidance. Friendship, small, magical, towns, and reaching for the stars.
It is. It’s cute and friendly and dorky and sweet, and makes me want to live in a coastal town where everyone is the kind of friends you had in childhood and bold dreams can come true.
Beautifully written tale about a carpenter and a potter, and best friends, and new friends. Plus its one of the few stand alone books from Audrey, so if you haven't read anything from her before, this is a good one.
Every time I read a new book by Audrey Faye I run out of superlatives. She has such a knack for warmth, and compassion, and community, and building families that are far more than blood. Blue's story seemed rather short and simple but left me smiling.
Wonderful book. The characters are perfect and the setting is a place I would love to visit. More than that, this book stirred my life energy and made me imagine possibilities and realities.
Wonderful story and such a calm in the storm of our lives with covid. Thank you Audrey. Wonderful kindness, joy and love. Still can not wait for you to write the next Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifters, I miss them so.
Really cute. I think these books, like the author's "Ghost Mountain" series, are really excellent feel-good books, they're just so cute and heartwarming. Blue and Grim are a cute couple. Supporting characters are great. It's a well-written, good, cute book.
One of my favourite colours...it's has been a comfortable read, that wasn't annoying. So many books or characters lately make me pull my hair out in frustration.
It's a short story full of artists and worm feelings. It made want to create something.
I feel like I have dropped into a wonderful space where I love to be. The characters are lovely and great! I haven't loved a book this since I read the witch series by Debora Geary! I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series!
