Foster and Stuart are cut from the same cloth, except Foster escaped the high-stress life and lives in peace and tranquility aboard his yacht. His home is in paradise.
Stuart is taking a much-needed break, doctor’s orders. He’s about to close on an important merger and come out on top. So why does he feel like he’s hit rock bottom?
If you’re expecting a lot of plot, this book might not wow you. Nothing much happens, and yet everything happens.
Stuart and Foster form a deep bond almost immediately and get on like a house on fire. Foster is determined to be professional and keep his distance, but Stuart prances around in a wet white speedo, trumping Foster’s resistance at every turn.
Foster tries to convince Stuart that as impossible as it seems, nothing is stopping him from getting off the rat-race train. But Stuart hesitates. Of course he does; power and greed are all he's ever known.
It's not until the last few chapters that Stuart proves to be the brave and resilient man Foster knows he can be. Following the quiet flow of the story (lulling, much like the softly rocking motion of a yacht at sea), this turning point proves quite exciting (harrowing, even!).
I love relationship-focused books, especially with hurt/comfort, scorching sexy times, and a sweet, sweet HEA.
Private Charter is all that plus a fairy tale rescue reminiscent of the last scene in Romancing the Stone where Michael Douglas rolls up in a yacht and sweeps Kathleen Turner off her feet. How can anyone not love an ending like that?

Paint-by-numbers; formulaic; cringeworthy.
Foster is kind and genuine. Stuart is a player and a jerk.
When Stuart worries whether Foster is even single, he never gives a thought to another inconvenient, but completely relevant, question: Is Foster even a top? Of course that magically works itself out. Us gay guys? We make great, handsome, convenient props for your love stories.
While Stuart does show that there’s more than meets the eye with him, I’m just not sure Stuart deserves Foster. The sexual banter and shameless flirting are fun at times, but Foster is a nice guy. It's not enjoyable seeing him as just another one of Stuart's conquests.
For such a buildup of alleged tension, there sure is a very obvious lack of sexual action. Though it’s not fade to black, the scenes are short and unsatisfying.
And there's no vivid sense of them bonding. We're told that they grow closer over time; we aren't shown it in any meaningful ways.
The day that they spend out together is entertaining, as is Stuart rescuing them later on.
The ending (White Knight, indeed) is sweet but sterile. Unoriginal, as is the rest of this story.
I’m clearly not part of the audience that this is intended to pander to. Yet the appropriation is still insulting.
I do like the White Speedos.

This story had me happy, hungry, horny, and in desperate need for a tropical destination getaway!
MCs Foster and Stuart were really likeable dudes. I liked who they were as people and related to their views and ideals, and their general outlooks on life and love. I sympathised and even related (to a degree) with Stuart and his personal struggle to make a necessary life altering change in his professional life. I liked how the guys found common ground in their experiences, which proved to be a great foundation for them to open up and get to know one another in a way that was previously unexperienced in their past relationships. I particularly loved the positive influence Foster had on the initially stressed out and exhausted Stuart. These two were truly lovely together—a little cheeky and a lot sexy, but ultimately just a really solid love match.
Unsurprisingly, my absolute favourite part of this story was the peaceful and sun soaked feel of the gorgeous Northern Queensland setting. Walker captured the stunning locale to a tee and has made me desperately yearn for a QLD holiday while I plod my way through this currently dreary AF Melbourne weather.
I’ll be honest and admit that I found this story to be slow-going and slightly repetitive during the first half, with a little too much emphasis on sexy sunscreen application and definitely too much focus on those saucy little white (see-through) speedos Stuart was sporting non-stop. Having said that, I felt the story picked up around the halfway mark, at which point I was completely hooked and couldn’t put it down. Some readers might also find the ending to be a tad unrealistic in nature, but I found myself really enjoying where Walker went with it; that final main scene was almost fairy tale-esque, which I kind of adored, however OTT.
When all was said and done, and after a bit of reflection on my part, Private Charter has cemented itself as one of my most enjoyed reads by the always remarkable N.R. Walker. If you’re looking for something sweet and easy to read, with a lot of sizzle and only a low amount of angst, then this might work wonders for you, too.

There’s not much to add to the blurb or the other reviews out there. Just know that this read like the exact vacation it portrays.
This was obviously easy and enjoyable, simple and laid back with hardly a blip of any conflict or angst.
So, if you want fun in the sun, relaxation, and great food, along with some very nice sexual tension, flirtation, and culmination, then put on your sunscreen, kick back, and prepare yourself for such!

I’ve really enjoyed most of N.R. Walker's books in the past. There are a couple that I reread over and over again. But lately it seems I have lost my N.R. Walker mojo. I was incredibly bored with Galaxies and Oceans and unfortunately that was the case with this one as well. I guess I need something more nowadays than just two guys in close proximity falling in love.
I don’t think I can add much that isn’t stated in the blurb: Stuart is overworked so he books a two week holiday cruise on a yacht where it will be him, his fuckbuddy, and the skipper. But when the fuckbuddy bails at the last minute it is just Stuart and Foster, the owner of the yacht. And with Foster being gay as well, Stuart sees no problem with adding some sex to his holiday…
My main problem with this story was that I was bored. And that I had a hard time liking Stuart. I did like him when he was thinking/talking about the stress his work gave him and how he wanted to give it all up. But then he turned around and became so arrogant that I wanted to throw him overboard.
And while I used to love flirting and innuendoes, I now roll my eyes at it and keep thinking, oh please just acts normal and have a real conversation. I guess I’m turning into an old woman…
As soon as Stuart found out Foster was gay, he tried everything he could think of to seduce Foster, and a lot might find that sexy, I just thought he was so obnoxious about it.
“Hot guy,” I amended, trying not to smile. He shot me an incredulous look. “Pardon?”
“Before, you said ‘hot guy wearing tiny white Speedos.’ I was correcting you.” He grinned, the eye-crinkling kind, and held my stare. “Silly me. I forgot what kind of arrogance it took to run in M&A.”
I smirked at him and hitched the towel up my thighs so the fabric bunched over my dick. “Don’t confuse arrogance with honesty.”
“I work hard on this body. I’m not hiding it. I’m not used to hiding it.”
So arrogant….
And I like subtle seduction, not walking around in a white see-through speedo. That’s just too obvious for me.
But I do have to say I liked the second half more when something actually happened. So that saved it from being a 2 star read. 3 stars means I didn’t really love it, but it was an okay read in the end, so I’ll settle for that.

Stuart is smack dab in the middle of the rat race. Making a name for himself in Mergers & Acquisitions. The job related stress level is affecting his health. On his doctor's orders, he takes his first vacation in five years, booking a cruise for two on a yacht. The night before it sails, his friend-with-benefits backs out of the trip leaving Stuart to board on his own.
Foster left the rat race six years ago. Now the proud owner of a yacht specialising in exclusive tours for couples. He tends to pick up the LGBTQ couples since being gay himself puts the couples more at ease.
The two hit it off pretty quickly, finding each other well versed in common topics and life experience. It doesn't take long for a spark of attraction to ignite. Stuart isn't shy about finding out if Foster is interested in more than conversation. I liked the teasing, the open sexuality. Even though I'm not a fan of tiny, white, see through Speedos. :-/
Unfortunately, once they started becoming intimate, the story lost a bit of steam for me. About halfway through, the descriptions of the setting were excruciatingly repetitive. I also had a hard time differentiating the characters. The two guys were so similar that I often had no clue who was talking or doing what. A couple of times I backtracked to the beginning of the chapter to see who's POV I was reading.
It wasn't long before I was skimming. Something needed to happen to liven up this plot because it had fallen pretty flat by now. It was around the standard 80% or so that it got a little hair raising crazy. I enjoyed the action. :-) ... And then... There was a really cheesy ending. 🤷♀️
Really, it's not a bad little romance. There's just not much to it and I have to admit to being a little bored with it. It was "just ok" for me.

The one-sided aggressive flirting makes me kinda uncomfortable, I don’t feel their chemistry and the excessive mentioning of the White Speedos gets on my nerves - it was cute the first 3 times but I’m only an hour and a half into the audiobook and I swear it’s been mentioned like… 30 times and I just can’t anymore. Such a shame because the setting is GORGEOUS 😩
But I kept cringing hard, so I’ll dnf for now. Maybe I’m just not in the right mood and I’ll come back to it someday to try again.

The ending shows why NR Walker is such a great author. There's something really refined about the way this story is wrapped up. I loved that.
What I didn't like in this story at all was Stuart.
It's so sad when you have a romance couple and absolutely can't stand one guy.
Stuart was crude, overly graphic in his language and aggressively seductive.
He annoyed me in almost every scene he was in. And he was in in EVERY scene.
I liked Foster a lot, though, and I liked how the story felt realistic and beautiful with one of the most amazing romance settings ever: on a yacht near sunny beaches and crystal blue sea.
If only Stuart were a nicer guy. The way he sometimes spoke to Foster and also the way the vacation ended didn't sit right with me.
He was a mean and jealous bitch who didn't raise any sympathies with me. And Foster was too gentle a guy to drop him for it. For me that vacation would have been hell, LOL.
Still, NR Walker is one of the best authors out there and I usually LOVE her characters. So I'll just consider this one a random miss.

This one had some mixed reviews amongst my GRs friends. But it’s NR Walker...I couldn’t not try it. And I ended up liking it.
Yes, there wasn’t a lot going on. Other than sunbathing, swimming, sailing and some sex. As Stuart promised.
Stuart was a bit much at times. Flirty, OTT innuendos, arrogant, a bit obnoxious. But he showed enough of his other side for it to not bother me too much.
I really liked Foster. He was great. And while this one kind of went the way I expected at the end. I did like it wasn’t drawn out and I liked how it all played out.
And the epilogue just made me smile. Big.

The descriptions about the Great Barrier Reef and surroundings were incredibly done, to the point of making me fell there. Moreover, on holiday!
Great chemistry between the MCs.
The end felt a bit rushed and cheesy, but overall it totally did the job getting me out of my 3 days book slump!

I don’t know what it says about me (and I don’t think I want to know) that I rarely enjoy books without significant conflict. I don’t like dark romance, and I don’t want undue pain and suffering, but I tend to need more than a mild amount of angst (unless, of course, that angst is associated with a third party's peen or vajayjay).
N.R. Walker is known for writing stories that are fairly light on angst, which is probably why I haven't read many of them. But I will have to reconsider because I genuinely enjoyed Private Charter. It was a fun and hot little number that took me by surprise, keeping me entertained and invested in Foster and Stuart's romance. 3.5 stars rounded up.
Due to Foster and Stuart's similar backgrounds, their instant connection read as believable. They were two kindred souls who lived fast-paced and high-stress lifestyles that forced them to reexamine their ideas about true success and happiness. While I was more partial to Foster, adoring how he encouraged and engaged Stuart, I also appreciated Stuart's moments of vulnerability and how he was there when Foster needed him.

Reading Private Charter was like a vacation: light, relaxing, and sweet. Consider me charmed!
N.R. Walker is known for writing stories that are fairly light on angst, which is probably why I haven't read many of them. But I will have to reconsider because I genuinely enjoyed Private Charter. It was a fun and hot little number that took me by surprise, keeping me entertained and invested in Foster and Stuart's romance. 3.5 stars rounded up.
Due to Foster and Stuart's similar backgrounds, their instant connection read as believable. They were two kindred souls who lived fast-paced and high-stress lifestyles that forced them to reexamine their ideas about true success and happiness. While I was more partial to Foster, adoring how he encouraged and engaged Stuart, I also appreciated Stuart's moments of vulnerability and how he was there when Foster needed him.

This book makes me want to quit my life and move to Australia to live on a sailboat. Except I probably would end up throwing my husband overboard. And I can’t sail. Anyway.
It was like an amazing vacation in paradise with a lot of hot sex. Very hot sex. Perfect escape from this 2020 life. I loved both MCs so much. Stuart is a stressed out investment banker who is taking a two week vacation he desperately needs, and Foster is the yacht skipper who quit everything a few years ago and now lives and works on his yacht. It’s a very intimate vacation with Stuart as the only client.
I expected to dislike Stuart from reading other reviews, but I loved him. I actually liked him better than Foster, who I also loved but he annoyed me a lot in the last couple of chapters. I felt he was a bit unrealistic and pushy about the future.
Was it perfect? Two things prevented perfection:
- the damn white speedos. You can’t wear the same swimsuit for two weeks straight without washing it. I think he washed it once. Dirty smelly white speedos. Not hot.
- you have to suspend disbelief starting around 75% pretty much all the way to the end.

This was a low angst sweet read. I could visualize the area, it’s a beautiful part of the country, doing was enjoying the scenery for sure ! It was quite a predictable story line - no twists or turns here.

It’s not often that I enjoy a almost angst-free story, but I more than enjoyed this book - I LOVED it.
It’a a relationship-focused story, there aren’t even any supporting characters. Stuart and Foster and their growing relationship is all you get in this story, and I didn’t mind it at all. The whole story felt like a dream, and kind of made me want to order a ticket on the next flight to Australia.
When Stuart’s friend/fuck-buddy cancels on him a day before the two of them are supposed to go on a two-weeks private cruise, Stuart is bummed, but decides to go anyways. After all, even his doctor said that he needed a proper vacation.
When Foster took on his latest job, he didn’t expect it to be a one-on-one trip. He’s used to sailing tourists, but he never sailed only one tourist.
But they both want to make the best of it. Even if Stuart won’t be able to have as much sex as he expected during his vacation, he would at least be able to rest, swim, and get tanned, in his tiny white speedos. He didn’t expect his private sailor to be so hot though, and he definitely didn’t expect Foster to be so captivated by his white speedos.
Foster can’t help but be attracted to Stuart. After all, the man walks around practically naked, and he’s smart, funny, and yes, hotter than hell. But Foster wants to keep it professional.Unfortunately Stuart doesn’t want to keep it professional at all, and decides to try and seduce Foster, by any means possible.
Foster tries to resist Stuart, but very soon gives in, and what ensues is a hot and romantic trip around Australia’s tropical waters. And when I say hot, I mean HOT. Dear lord, these two were on fire. But this story is more than that, it’s about falling in love, letting someone see the real you, and about discovering what you really want out of life. And even if it all ended a bit too perfectly, the ending left me feeling happy and hopeful.

This was very romantic and lovely, but I was a little bummed about the fade-to-black, low steam. It’s just the mood I’m in. I really did like this book.

The way NR walker truly heals a part of my soul with her very own words leaves me utterly fathomless.
I know I read romance and all, and my favorite thing in this world is Love stories, of all kind, but I guess, believing in love stories to be real, to be true, to know that such a precious connection can be unbreakable and soul-deep, especially with the very world we live in, fairs me with more doubt and skepticism.
and, I guess that is just the power of NR words, an ode to love and connection, of loyalty and trust, an unbreakable and unbendable bond to exist between her very words.
this book makes me want to go on a vacation, and experience warmth, fresh air and freedom. makes me want to go outside in the sun, close my eyes and just smile for the peace as the warmth settles on my skin.
and at the very core of this book, walker never fails to show such a simple but powerful lesson.

Just the type of fantasy I can get into. Falling in love on a yacht and then spending the rest of your life with that person.
Ending was a little TOO OTT and unrealistic though. Still overall enjoyed it.

I found this book as I kicked around Amazon. I was looking for a comfortable but short novella. I flicked over this a few times, thinking it was too long for what I wanted, but the cover and blurb kept telling me to grab it. Something nice set in my country in a beautiful part of the world - Cairns, the Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef up to Port Douglas and Daintree National Park - is not hard to take.
I am so glad I grabbed this book. So glad.
The writing was good, the story quiet but emotional, and the MCs had depth and a powerful chemistry that built as the story was told. It's hard to paint a confident, assertive person on page without making them appear arrogant or rude. It would be so easy to have Stuart come across as one-dimensionally arrogant but the author draws a believable vulnerability and genuineness about him along with the confidence he would need for his career. Likewise, Foster could have been too nice, there is such a thing in books, but he's this very easy going, self-possessed, water-loving, and kind Aussie guy. He was utterly loveable and sincere.
The book is hot. Scorching.
The food took on a life of it's own.
The setting around the inlets and coves and islands, the reef and sandy beaches, made me want to go back. It is that beautiful, the ocean/sea that clear and that blue, one that truly does defy a word on the colour palette.
The dual POV moved the book along at a good clip and even though this is a character driven romance, complete with HEA and an aww-worthy epilogue, the book has excellent emotional depth.
Stuart likes the idea of a game to get the sexy captain to have sex with him. It can't hurt to have a holiday fling, Stuart does flings just fine, but Foster joins in after some professional soul-searching. He gives a lot of himself to the game as well, which makes it sexier and adds a necessary spark, an incendiary one.
White Speedos are like another character in the book.
I swam up to the yacht, took the ladder in both hands, and hauled myself out of the water, slow step by slow step. He watched every movement and let out a slow breath when I sat right next to him. So maybe the white Speedos weren’t such a bad idea after all because he drank in every part of me.
White Speedos. Tiny white Speedos at that. Why did he have to wear them, of all things? I don’t care how many linings they had, those tight white swimmers barely concealed anything. And as if they weren’t revealing enough when dry, but wet? I could see everything. Every line, every vein, every single thing.
Then he undid his towel completely, revealing his bulge. He opened his eyes, just to watch me watch him. Then he ever so slowly rolled over, lifted his hips, and readjusted his dick, then lowered himself back down and spread his legs. Damn.

On land, there were people about without a care in the world, walking, some jogging, some strolling along with dogs or pushing prams. Palm trees swayed like my world wasn’t ending.
Like my heart wasn’t breaking.

AUDIOBOOK March 2021: I enjoyed this more as an ebook. Anthony Ferguson does a fine job, but je doesn’t add any excitement to the story.

A sweet, steamy read with tropical beach vibes. Set in Australia, it’s an endless procession of pristine beaches, clear water, and the Great Barrier Reef. I enjoyed the easy, flirtatious vibe between Stuart and Foster. It’s a fluffy read, but sometimes that’s all a girl needs.

I enjoyed this. Stuart and Foster were loveable guys. I swooned with them on their sailing trip. Can't seem better than;
