The Change

"For the last 6 years I have kept it at bay. The need, the want, the hunger. No more. I will be free to do as I please. Brandon, you have no control over me!"

Mates. They were supposed to stay together. To treasure each other. To love one another. But what happens when Choice trumps Fate, when need becomes obsession and hope flickers?
This is a story of Nessa, a bright young werewolf, who grew up with stories about romance and mates. None of which could prepare her for the reality - her mate chooses her best friend over her for the chance of power and glory. Deserted by the one meant to cherish her, Ness picks herself up and resolutely tries to make her own way in life. If she can't have the mate that Fate destined for her, she would surely find one of Choice for herself.

Alpha Marcus Josef "Ned" Edwards has a dark past. He too lost his mate 6 years ago and has dedicated his life to avenge her death. Meticulously eliminating every single wolf that was even remotely connected with the death of his mate, he is rightfully labeled brutal, bloodthirsty and dangerous. His pack mates learn to diffrentiate the glimpses of their old loving Alpha Marcus from this ruthless Alpha Ned and his ever consuming rage.

When Nessa meets Marcus sparks ignite and they are irresistibly drawn towards each other. But would that be enough to bring these two wolves together and wipe out the hurt and heartbreak of the past? Would the bonds of choice be stronger than fate's?

Read to find out.

'The Change'
3.5* rounded up

I really enjoyed this!
The story was more of an epic tale than i was expecting from the initial set up.

Nessa meets Marcus while on her way to reject her fated mate... the mate that rejected her years earlier.
The chemistry is pretty instant, but doesn't come across as insta love. They both have broken hearts and don't expect to ever find love again. ...until they does. Turns out, choice mates aren't second best at all.
Then there's the whole, 'who killed Marcus' first mate', mystery. A mystery that needs to be solved before more are hurt.

I loved the MCs. They are both snarky but in a witty way. Both strong and brave and honest.
The author (despite the cheesy pen-name) likes to think about her characters and world building from all angles. It's not the usual fluffy formula even though it felt like it would be at first.
I thought it could have easily been split into at least two books, but kudos to the author that she didn't go that route.
Lots of great side characters with side intrigues.
Loved the romance between Marcus and Nessa!

The cons are the need for an editor (other than auto-correct!). Sometimes the transition between chapters seemed a bit confusing, where I wondered if I'd skipped a chapter and I got a bit lost in the politics at one point.

I'm looking forward to reading the next one!

(read on wattpad)
Safety is perfect
..................................................................................................

i started the sequel 'The Monarch', also on wattpad. There's no goodread shelving for this one though, so here's where I'm at.

The MCs are Avery and Jonathan.
Avery is a new character. She's 27, runs a 'battered bitches' shelter and is probably hiding from her own true mate.
Jonathan is the king of the werewolves.

You really need to read the first book before this one as it is an ongoing soap opera.

I gonna give up on reading this..
Why? Well I hate reading on wattpad so it's taking a while. Plus the editing is even worse than the first book...

It's too bad as the story telling is better than a LOT of other paranormal books I've read.
If she ever gets her stuff published I will be first in line to buy it.

One of the best rejected mate romance and totally free to read.
An author from Wattpad who writes better than half the KU authors. Only one other author on Wattpad impressed me just as much.
100% recommend it, if you enjoy strong heroines.angst, and emotional love stories.

I normally avoid the rejected mate trope, because I hate seeing the h degraded, but the h ends up finding a better H than the jerk fate gave her.

Also, the book had the dreaded dead ex trope, another trope that I absolute despise and avoid at all cost, but in this book, the H loved the h more than his dead fated ex. She was just better than the ex in every way and I loved that!!

Im so glad I found this author, and it boggles the mind why someone like this isn’t published!

Important:🚧
if you decide to try this, her books on Wattpad are now incomplete. Even the love scenes/chapters were deleted.
You MUST read her titles on inkitt.com.

DNF. 2.5 stars

I can't complain too much because it's a wattpad story so I shouldn't be surprised. After reading another good novel on there, I was hoping this would be the same. 40 chapters in, with only 9 remaining, I gave up.

It's just way too long and the pace was so slow because too many people were added and all of them needed to find their own mates apparently. A lot of repetition with the inner monologues (we get it, mates find each other attractive, do we really need to be reminded in every chapter?). It was mostly filler by this point! The romance was getting cringier and cringier and the editing issues made some scenes hard to understand.

Rounded the rating up to 3 stars because, again, you should know what to expect when you read a story on wattpad.

I liked the plot concept of this book. It was a refreshing twist to the were world. Nessa is an inspiring leading lady and Aphalicious is not only a big marshmallow inside but drool worthy as well. It got a little confusing at times with the jumping POVs. There were also some chapters that felt unlinked from the prior one. Overall, a good read though!

A book that hooks you and just won’t let you but it down.
At some point the politics become to much en there is a lot of dibble explaining of how things work which can be a bit annoying
