This story was about as brief as a popcorn fart. It was a little predictable. The main character presented himself as being dumber than a box of rocks. I have read a book in the Claw series before and it was a lot stronger than this novelette. There was not enough suspense. For example, a giant wolf spider is on the prowl. Normally, since I have a mild case of arachnophobia, I would be jumping under the covers. This writing just did not give me the willies. It is a okay read due to its briefness. I think I will stick with the rest of the series.

Caleb Cantrill, a nitroglycerin toting bank robber, escapes with the gold, and, in an attempt to find a safe hiding place for it, finds himself in a cavern full of insects. I think if you have a real fear of insects and other creepy crawlies, then this might make your hair stand on end. Not having such a fear meant this did little for me. Its saving grace was that the audio version came in under an hour so I felt I had not wasted much time.

Creepy crawly prequel
This is a prequel novella to the CLAW series.
Caleb Cantrill is a bank robber experienced using nitroglycerin. He teams up with the Hole in the Wall Gang to rob the Bank of Montreal in Canada and misjudges just how much nitro to use. He ends up bringing most of the bank down.
Cantrell heads out with some gold he got from the heist with the Hole in the Wall Gang on his heels. He heads towards the Kootenays region of British Columbia, hoping to lose the Gang plus maybe find more gold in the supposedly gold-rich area.
While looking for a hiding place, he stumbles across more trouble than he's equipped to handle in an underground nightmare.

I enjoyed this short novella. It brings you back to Lawless where is it begins. Ms. Berry has added humour and enough suspence to keep me interested to the very end. Looking forwarded to more.

Suspenseful Horror
Very well written horror novella! Love that the author included a cliffhanger for the reader to agonize over until the next story comes out! Lucky for me I just found this series so the next novella (Kitty Welch) is already out so I am able to find out what happened to Caleb when I read it. Have read the first Claw book also which was very good too. Highly recommend this author and the series.

A quick thought: Did the author leave an Easter 🐣 or was the engaging Wolf Spider just a coincidence? Wait, there are no coincidences when it comes to Lawless.

The writing was really good in this book. It is set up concisely and moves right into the plot in a very natural way. The characters are interesting and it holds the beginnings of an interesting world.

I decided to read this book after thoroughly enjoying Claw. It is a short story that took me about an hour to read. This is another "goodie" from Katie Berry. It is a shame that this story wasn't developed into a full-length novel. It had some nice potential.

A starting place
This short story is a starting place for the Claws series of books. There is only one character in the story, but he is definitely a character. Did I like this story it was okay. It was just one bad moment to another bad moment. The main and only character was pretty much someone you did not care about. He is not very clever nor has he any redeeming character. Still you do find out that this place is not a very good place and that is important for later.

A good book to read and find out about a cave.
You are taken on a journey back in the eighteen hundreds in a cave that was very strange and dangerous. No one new of this place Cantrill was scared for what he found in the cave. The author did a good job with the book keeps you wanting more.

A great novelette, from the Claw series. It was a very easy read, definitely done in one sitting. Some new creatures introduced and to be feared. Where every new creature assumes humans are always on the menu. A thoroughly enjoyable addition to this series.

What a fantastic little gem! With every step into the cave to look for more gold Caleb had several run-in’s with some creepy characters.
