I Said This, You Heard That - Workbook

Rate this book
If you've ever said the wrong thing (or said the right thing the wrong way) you know how quickly your mouth can make a big mess. But it doesn't have to be that way. This 6-session video study explores how your wiring affects what you say, how you listen, and how others hear you. After taking the 40-question assessment, you'll learn a simple framework that will instantly improve your communication. And you'll see how advice from the apostle Paul thousands of years ago may have held the secret all along. This workbook is intended to be used with the I Said This, You Heard That study videos, available for free on YouTube or for purchase on the DVD (ISBN 860187000879).

This is an excellent and very eye-opening read and must recommend that everyone read it. It's 6 quick sessions that have videos that accompany it. Our mom group read this as a book study and meet 1x a week to discuss that weeks session. It was very vaidting to learn about our innate temperaments, not to be confused with personalities. It's a way to understand better other people's thoughts and feelings or how they react and respond to what you say. I learned a lot about myself and why I respond the way I do to what others say. It's something that you can't necessarily change, but you can be aware and think before you respond. Some things I consider strengths are weaknesses to others. It also gave me insight to how some friends think and process things and how to speak their "language." It's a great way to foster better communication with people. The only problem is that not everyone reads or is familiar with the temperaments and so won't respond to you in the same way that your innate needs crave. I wish I would have read this much sooner in life. One of my top favorite " learn about yourself" books I've read!

One of my favorite studies, along with the videos! It helped me improve communication skills for every relationship in my life. This is the third time I’ve done this study with a small group, and it won’t be the last.

Still going through this and applying it. A book that everyone should read. I picked it up because my pastor did a “sermon” with her recently and it intrigued me. I had my husband and children also take her quiz (from her workbook, purchased separately) and the results have been eye opening and helpful in how we relate to each other!!

For example, my husband has never “understood “ my son. Always saying things like, “I never did this or that as a young man...” Come to find out they are quite literally polar opposites and would “naturally” not understand each other. It has drastically improved their relationship.

Highly recommend

This was a really great study into different personality types (“temperaments”) and ways to communicate with people who are different from you. We followed this with a new church small group and it was a great way to get to know each other. There were many interesting insights and some amusing discoveries about ourselves and each other along the way. The accompanying videos were pretty good, although a little long on occasion. The self assessment in first week worked well and the discussion questions each week were helpful. The colour coding for each “temperament” and the simple diagrams were useful and easy to follow.

This is a great book to find out about yourself. Our small groups from the church used the book last year. This is a book, workbook, & app that I would recommend for any person, group to use to get to know yourself and others. You start out by doing a quiz to find out what is your color. Then you use videos each week to introduce that week's lesson and then your facilitators go through the workbook. We preread any homework. Our church also sold shirts that matched your color.

I highly recommend this study to everyone who wants to learn how to communicate better with the people in their lives. Learning the four different temperaments is incredibly helpful and fascinating, and also aligns with all the personality type studying I've done. The best part is that this simplifies identifying certain traits in others so you can speak to their needs.

Did this in a small group setting probably in 2018 and again in 2019. My friends and I are still referring to it in conversation. It explains so many things (two friends for 30 years don't do much together - both indecisive greens) and helps conversations with family and friends.

Free videos to go along with.

A small group spin on disc, it’s nice to have it layed out and visuals of showing strengths and weaknesses.

Good for people who haven’t had much training in personality or need a refresher. Also good for someone who is semi good and want guide a friend through.

I enjoyed this book. I think we need to realize people are not just one "color". It will be useful at times with others

Really good insight into how our "wiring" produces certain needs that must be fulfilled, as well as educating on the "why" we may do certain things. Good small group curriculum for couples!

The information in this book about inborn temperaments would have changed my parenting completely. There’s still time to build up others with my words. I’m a yellow and I think this will be FUN!

This is a very basic understanding of the four personality types which is basically DISC. There is an app with videos to go along with it that is done very well. I love how the book is laid out. While I did it solo it lends itself more to a group setting. It gives some basic understanding of each of the 4 personality types and how to communicate better. If taken to heart and really implemented it could be very life changing for your relationships.

I’m excited to read the source material for this, but I enjoyed this read (although I didn’t realize it would take a spiritual tack). It did a good job with the overarching ideas behind the 4 temperaments, and gave good language for how to talk about it. The videos in the companion app were helpful as well.
