January 20, 2014SO..f/m writers..this would be how NOT to dip your toes into shark-infested m/m waters. Safer just to stick with your safe flowery pink-folds of female genitalia-writing rather than evoking the wrath of pissed-off m/m readers like myself.
AND.NOT.BECAUSE I dislike f/m/m stories. I f'ing love f/m/m angles if written well. Good luck finding any..because unless you are an exceptionally gifted writer..you absolutely cannot be skilled enough to have the best of both gendered-worlds in (1) story.
I think this will go down in history as being the story that pissed me off the most in my 39-year-history of reading.
Note for m/m readers: The blurb is f'ing misleading as all Hell. I thought I bought an m/m sport-themed bromance. Wrong. I should have STOPPED reading after the fabulous sex scene of Sean finally f'ing-reaming Bentley and called it a wrap after that build-up. Sean's physically domineering presence was sexy as all Hell and had me until the whole thing literally went to Hell in a handbasket with the female-fiance of retardation and writing to match reeking of an over-stuffed f/m 'erotica' landfill of all landfills.
Consider yourself warned.

This book contains M/M (many times angry), M/F, and M/M/F sex.
I’ll be flat out honest, I hate the homophobia that run rampant in professional sports (hell any sports) so this book while very good also made me sad. I hate when people feel they can’t be honest about who they are and who they love. I’d like to think that sometime in my lifetime we’ll get past that but I’m not holding my breath. Switch Hitter finds two men thrust back on the same team 5 years after an incident that sent one running to a new team and one trying to get over a man he knew he could love. This story is filled with angst, denial, betrayal, but it is also filled with hope and love.
My heart was aching for both Bentley and Sean in this story, honestly I cried multiple times throughout this book. Bentley because he’s in love with a woman he’s been seeing for years but when Sean re-appears he can’t deny the feelings he has for him as well. Feelings he’s tried to block, feelings he thinks are perverse, and feelings he now knows will never go away. Sean has denied his feelings for Bentley and stayed away but now back on the same team, he has to figure out a way to be around him and not have him.
Seriously my heart broke in two over these two stubborn assed men. I can’t forget about Ashley (Bentley’s fiancée) who is left in the dark until he confesses all leaving her confused, angry, and sad.
It was hard watching these three people try to figure out their lives and how to live them. There wasn’t an easy solution because Bentley truly loved both Ashley and Sean and missed one when he was with the other and felt guilty about the whole situation. Ashley could see that Bentley was happier when Sean was in his life but she had a hard time coping with them being together. Sean honestly had it the worst because he didn’t have anyone to turn to, no one to comfort him, nothing but hope that someday they could be together. Unfortunately an accident leaves them all dealing with different feelings and issues but forcing them to look at things from all different sides.
I really loved this book though at times I wanted to strangle one or all three of the main characters. While they made peace with their situation, I felt that the true “problem” still hadn’t been addressed and it’s my hope that in future books we’ll get a look at how they handled their situation with friends and family. Switch Hitter offered a compelling plot line with plenty of food for thought along with lots of heat.

Synopsis: Two hunky major league baseball players are the leads in this story. Sean who is openly gay in his private life, but because of his career he's technically in the closet, has no problems with his homosexuality. He's been in love with Bentley (Bent) for five years and five years ago he thought he had a chance with the man. However Bent is in denial that he is gay or I should say bisexual. Sean is the only man he has every felt an attraction for and it totally freaks him out. So much so that he runs away from Sean and his feelings by trading himself to another team to get away from his desires.
Fast forward five and Bent is in a serious relationship with his girlfriend Ashley. Sean is traded to the same team as Bent now so they are teammates once again. But this time there is no running away from his feelings. We then follow their relationship which also involves Ashley because Bent realizes he is in love with both Ashley and Sean but has no idea how that's even possible. Will he choose Ashley and try to live with half his heart belonging to Sean because that is what society dictates or will Bent continue to make Sean his dirty little secret?
To be honest I didn't even know this was a M/M romance. I won the book in a contest :) So this is my first M/M romance but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It was a very emotional read. The author portrays the emotional turmoil of the two lead characters very well. The writing was very good. Like another reviewer I didn't like the fact that Bent hid his attraction and resulting affair from his fiancé Ashley for most of the book. I didn't like it but I understood his motives because he was in such denial of his homosexuality. And you have to love Sean who is true with his feelings from the start. You can't help but root for him and hope that he gets his HEA with the man he loves. I'm usually rooting for the heroines in the romances I read because that's what I'm used to but this really is more focused on Sean and Bent and we only get a glimpse into Ashley's thoughts but I like her too.
And to clarify this is definitely an erotic romance. Very, very explicit so it is not for the faint of heart.

The Mustangs left fielder Bentley Randolph ran scarred five years ago. Feeling ashamed having a romantic attraction towards another man totally freaked him out. Now, all these years later, who shows up as a new trade to the Mustangs......Sean Flannery, the male love of his life. After a very close encounter with Sean, Bent jumps off the ledge and asks long time female love of his life Ashley to marry him.
This love story between three people has lots of angst and soul searching. Who ends up with who in this one is the biggest question. I really liked the male characters in this one and Ashley the lone female in this love triangle was amazing. Sean's younger sister makes an appearance in this one to set up her love story with an older man in a future Mustang book.

I have very mixed feelings after reading this book. When I bought the book I thought it was an M/M romance about baseball players. Boy was I surprised. I should've read the synopsis a little closer. I am a monogamist. I was uncomfortable with the ménage. I don't believe I have ever read romance between a man and woman before. Needless to say I skipped over those scenes. I was totally immersed in the story wondering how in the heck two ballplayers could ever be together. I guess the ending is an HEA but it still broke my heart.

It has taken five years for Bentley and Sean to come face to face again after the two had a connection in the locker room. But ever since, Bentley has been running scared and making a life for himself with Ashley. Being around Sean is bringing up so many feelings and desires that no one can ignore. Once Ashley finds out will she walk away from the man she is supposed to marry? Or will she allow Sean into more than just their bedroom? Best book of the entire series thus far. Filled with beautifully written characters, important dialogue and just enough give and take to make the reader not able to put the book down, this was a fabulous read.

This is Bent (nice joke on the name) Randolph's dilemma. He has a girlfriend, and he loves Ashley. Loves sex with her, the smell of her, the rapport they have... But he is also inexorably drawn to Sean Flannery. Sexually, yes, but emotionally, too.
Due to the very explicit (and erotic) sex scenes, this won't be a comfortable read for those who don't like to mix it up.

This book was better than I thought it would be. I'm not a fan of m/m stories but with Bentley's girlfriend/fiancée Ashley in the mix with Sean made for a good story. Teammates from the past meet again on a new team 5 yrs after an embarrassing after game shower moment. Their meeting isn't as great as it should've been, because Sean decks Bentley instead of saying hello, thus starting a brawl on the locker room floor. Now they have to work together to make sure no one gets even a hint of their past & Bentley has fight hard to resist Sean's advances & the feelings that he has for Sean. The battle of wills & egos is strong, but with the devastating career ending injury during a game all their lives are going to change. Good book in a very good series.

Bentley is in love with both Ashley and Sean but cannot tell Ashley about Sean. Ashley knows something is bothering him but cannot get him to open up. When he does, it could be the end of them all.
I liked these characters. I liked Sean. Bentley needed more of a backbone when communicating with Ashley. Ashley was also good but I could not connect with her as I have with the other women in this series. The sex is hot and when they finally decide what to do it is even better. The story was believable. I just wish Bentley could have opened up to Doyle. Doyle could have helped him a lot.
I do enjoy this series and these players. I look forward to reading more of them.

Torn between 2 and 3 stars on this one. It's not written badly, but it wasn't the book I expected. There are elements in the story I didn't care for (angry sex, forced seduction), but if you're into those things you might like this.

The description makes this sound like a m/m romance - no hint of a woman joining in. Never would have read it if this was made clear, DNF as it was.
