This book explains how the modern epidemic of disabling, incurable chronic diseases is due to unrecognized mercury poisoning. Many conditions, from Parkinson's disease and autism - widely recognized as terrible afflictions, to those like chronic fatigue and fibromyalagia which, though equally serious, are disparaged as "yuppie flu" can be undiagnosed mercury poisoning. The book emplains WHY mercury poisoning is widespread, yet seldom diagnosed. Proper diagnostic procedures are given so that sick people can decide what is wrong rather than trying random treatments. This book exlains how to cure chronic mercury poisoning, what to do to control the problems it causes, and provides the real technical information needed for diagnosis and treatment in a straightforward manner. This down to earth book lets patients take care of themselves. It also lets doctors who are not familiar with chronic mercury intoxication treat it. The book is a practical guide to getting well.
Andrew Hall Cutler, PhD, PE is the author of Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment and also of Hair Test Interpretation: Finding Hidden Toxicities. These books are described at www.noamalgam.com and www.noamalgam.com/hairtestbook.html . He has a PhD in chemistry from Princeton, a BS in physics from the University of California. He is a registered patent agent and a licensed professional chemical engineer. He knows firsthand what can happen when you get mercury poisoning. He’s experienced the devastating ‘mystery syndrome’ and had doctor after doctor scratch their head in puzzlement and send him away. After finding out that the mercury in his amalgam fillings was the source of his terrible illness he was able to read the medical literature and determine a chemically sensible procedure to get well. This pioneered the rational use of chelators for heavy metal toxicity. The results of his experience and research culminated in writing the book Amalgam Illness on how to cure mercury poisoning, and the Hair Test Interpretation book on how to use a painless and inexpensive test to check for the toxic effects of a wide variety of elements. He currently works as a detox consultant and continues writing books.
The authoritative book on mercury poisoning via dental amalgams (& vaccines et al) - by the research chemist who has put in the hard yards: many years of study on this one topic.
Cutler not only figured out how mercury gets into our bodies, how & where it distributes, but how to get it out.
Hundreds of testimonies on various forums (such as Frequent Dose Chelation) from parents of formerly autistic children, & adults who have got their lives back, speak to the effectiveness of the Cutler method.
At 61 I'm healthier than I have been since my 20s, thanks to this book.
This is a controversial topic, but clearly one that is being examined more closely in public policy (cue: recent dubious study by CDC denying the link between mercury in vaccines and autism) as well as a touchy subject in the medical community for over 200 years.
Talk to 9/10 dentists and they will tell you the FDA has approved the use of mercury in amalgams and there is no danger of mercury vapor being released once the fillings are in place. I think the more telling fact is that in 1840, the American Society of Dental Surgeons denounced the use of amalgams and were disbanded in 1856 for refusing to use mercury. A group of 26 dentists formed the American Dental Association in 1859 and pledged the opposite (why you ask? amalgams were cheaper, faster, and easier to place than gold materials). Since then, the ADA has threatened to revoke the license of any dentist claiming to be a mercury-free dentist, so don't accuse your dentist of ignorance. I personally find it almost comical that although the FDA has warned of mercury of farmed salmon and other fish, it has yet to issue a red flag on dental amalgams, which can potentially be 100x more dangerous than the small amount of methylmercury coming from fish.
Ultimately, all this is only relevant when it affects your health. It might be true that even when mercury vapors are released into your bloodstream, they're pretty benign; that is, until you have a major health problem. Once mercury and viruses are in cahoot, they form a chicken-and-egg, symbiotic relationship. Recently, a lab test confirmed that my body is producing abnormally high antibodies to mercury and fibrillarin, a target in mercury-induced autoimmunity.
This book is targeted toward the "once it happens to you" constituency, not the advocacy crowd. It has sound recommendations and what not to do when chelating heavy metals from your body. It's written by a PhD in chemistry and his empirical study of both pharmaceutical and nutritional intervention shines through in his writing. He draws clear and concise graphs depicting where mercury can interfere in hormone production. Since heavy metal chelation is such a raw topic lacking clinical trials, I wouldn't rely on any single resource when dealing with mercury removal. Take bits and pieces from multiple authors/physicians and find the lowest common denominator.
My big takeaway from this book: 1) make sure your dentist uses proper procedure to remove fillings as improper methods can ironically worsen your situation. 2) Low dose oral DMPS or DMSA >>> intravenous challenges. 3) address adrenal, thyroid, immunodeficiency, and detoxification impairment to make these next few months bearable.
Very repetitive, hard to follow, and full of distracting personal anecdotes/opinions. Well worth wading through for the invaluable insights on otherwise unavailable anywhere else, ie. safest regimen for heavy metal detoxification and support, nutrient processing pathways of the liver and it's enzymes.
This book saved my life after my health seriously crashed after chelating from mercury the wrong way, with an amalgam still hidden in my mouth under a crown. A must if you have, or suspect mercury toxicity. This book is extremely thorough and has the best advise possible for recovery from amalgam toxicity.
Most comprehensive monography on chronic poisoning by very small amounts of heavy metals within the brain, within organs, within cells, messing up myelin and enzimes. In varying degrees of complexity, it extensively describes an underlying causing common factor to many chronic conditions. It gives an array of solutions from within traditional and/or alternative medical approaches. It suggests a safe protocol of tiny amounts of chelators taken during 3 out of 7 days a week for several months and according to their half-life. First 3 months to clean up the plasma then afterwards the brain and cells.
Important to note: Andrew Cutler significantly lowered the starting amounts of chelators to up to 1/100 of what he initially suggested in this book, in order to suit the needs of extremely sensitive people struggling with an array of very disabling symptoms, from 50mg to .5mg in some cases.
AMALGAM ILLNESS: Diagnosis and Treatment is, by far, the most in-depth and complete books I've read on addressing Heavy Metal Toxicity. After months of reading opinion after opinion, I finally gave in and bought this book. Having mercury toxicity myself, from which I developed many chronic conditions, this book was extremely comprehensive in understanding what I believe to be the proper way to chelate heavy metals and, for the most part, many of the symptoms that can be caused by this.
I have yet to follow Andy Cutler's protocol, simply due to lack of finances to sustain it, but hope to at some point. I do believe it is the one method of treatment that could help my health---and with it, my quality of life.
The way I came across his book was through a well-run group on Yahoo (adult-metal-chelation@yahoo.groups.com). I read their posts for a year before I bought the book, and the reason I took that long is because I didn't have the money to "waste" on yet another health book that does me little to no good. Once I KNEW it was legit, I found it was money MORE than well spent---it's invaluable, IN MY OPINION, as is this entire review. This is not meant as medical advice.
