I was fourteen when I attempted to write my first novel. Half finished, riddled with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and printed in pink ink, I gave it to my English teacher and asked her for feedback. A month later she handed it back to me and told me it was "good" without having read it.
How did I know she hadn't read it? The story was about an assassin for hire who disposed of her "kills" in her bathtub by dissolving their remains in sulphuric acid. I'm pretty sure if she had read it, one heck of a letter would have been sent home. I look back at this now and can see that the pink ink and poor spelling were the least of my problems.
With the lack of constructive criticism from my English teacher, I placed my novel writing on hold. I dallied mainly with typical teenage, angst-ridden poetry until several years later, on a romantic whim, I turned a boy I knew into a superhero, literarily (not literally) speaking. Because I'm super awesome, I included some of his friends and chronicled their superhero adventures as a birthday present to him.
My relationship with the superhero version of the boy lasted the completion of a dozen short stories. My relationship with the real life boy didn't. And I was writing pretty dang quick too!
There were a couple more plot twists but since they don't involve radioactive spiders, magical wardrobes or handsome Tolkien-esque elves they're not really worth talking about! So that's pretty much the yellow brick road to how I got here.
Bridget has settled down and nothing is bothering her, she has no problems. And that makes her discontented. Oz came and talked to her and she gave him the shortest answers she could. Then Charon showed up. He needed her help. He has a dead guy that wasn't supposed to be dead. He was murdered with a scythe. Cheron thinks it was one of Hades's reapers but no one is saying anything and he wants Bridget to talk to them and find out who it was. She jumps right at it. Something to do that's exciting. Come along and work the case with Bridget. Who will figure it out first? It was fun to read this and I really enjoyed it. The whole series is just awesome! And every book is a stand-alone and no cliffhangers You will feel like you know all the characters. Good descriptions, a well-thought-out plot, the plot was well constructed and the story was well written. I recommend this series. I voluntarily received an ARC copy from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Bridgit and the gang are back for another adventure. Things have settled in for Bridgit, she hasn’t come across a dead body in a while, no murder to sole and everything is fine, just fine 😒😒. That is until Charon pops in to let her know that souls are being accidentally reaped. With her roommates, Officer Leonard, Oz, Madame Zarine and Sabrina, Bridgit has to find the reaper responsible, find the scythe she hid, locate Warren, and figure out the rest of her afterlife.
This was the last book in the series but sound as a set up to continue it in a new direction an the gang with the gang still intact. Bridgit has done a lot of maturing over the books, and this has helped her to find direction for not only herself but the family she’s created.
I am perpetually amazed and delighted by the author’s imagination. How did she think of this version of hell? The concept alone is as funny as any of the scenes. I love Bridget. She’s so totally herself. The remarkable end, or almost-end, of this story was healing in a way, even though it’s the wrap-up of a humorous mystery. It gives depth to Bridget’s character arc through the series. With a light touch, it tells the truth about change, life, and death. I wonder what was going on with the impersonations—not sure if that’s to be explained in future books or if I missed a beat. I look forward to the next in the series, and I got my book club to choose the first in series for our next month’s read.
Bridget and the whole gang is back. And they were as entertaining as always. Someone is adding names of people to the reapers list that are not supposed to be reaped. Its up to Bridget to figure out who. Between that and her life (death) crisis, she has slot on her plate. An excellent series.
dreading this one as meant i was now up to date with this fun series, lots of changes preparing for the next volume, well thought out plot, many interesting twists, and the Heroine is Fired from her Job…. not one to start with as there are too many well established characters in play. awaiting book eight…. with anticipation.
Not my favourite Bridget Sway book, as like Bridget & Sabrina it took me a bit to get back into the swing of things. Ultimately I gave it 4 stars because it made me lol on several occasions and I really do enjoy the whole crazy afterlife. Special mentions for: 1. Bridget & Sabrina's dance of glee on the beach 2. Kate & Anna's undercover mission and debrief.
This story is funny, creative and enjoyable. I will be reading the rest of this series just to see what difficulties Bridget gets herself and her crew into and how they resolve the situations.
I love the way the story ends and a new beginning? Hopefully we will here more from Bridget as she gets her new job up and running along with all of her pals.
Story was cute. Not enough of Bridget’s friends in this one. Ending kind of jumped around and then just ended. Would like to know more about what happened to Warren. I’m not sure if I want another book or just a good epilogue.
I enjoyed this one. I do like the direction the author set up for future stories. I just hope we don't have to wait so long for the next one. There were quite a few editing errors but not to the point it detracted from the story.
