You know how you discover a new author & then read their book & it grabs you from the get go? No?? Well this is the one!! I would definitely love to visit more with Tori & Hunter & see where things go.
Another amazing find thanks to booktok. This paranormal book was a gripping read. Strong female character, ghosts and mystery. What more can you ask for? Oh, and let's not forget the beautiful cover 😍. I definitely need this in paperback form.
While I liked the premise of Miss Agnes Is Missing, the writing fell short for me and felt underdeveloped.
The characters needed more fleshing out, the plot was kind of all over the place, and the editing was deficient.
I think there is some great potential here in both the storyline and the characters. With all of the loose ends left in this short novella perhaps the author will revisit this story and give it a bit of a polish.
I think it would make for a good full length novel and definitely has the bones; just needs the meat.
Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Victoria “Tori” Freeman is an exceptional woman with a unique talent. This talent helps her accomplish her in working for the police department. She is strong, witty, and smart. Newly promoted, Tori was requested to assist in an out-of-town case dealing with the murder of a little girl.
Hunter Cain is a fellow detective working who had to his ex, Tori, on a peculiar case dealing with a girl's disappearance. He suspected some foul play at work and had to seek help from his past.
Miss Agnes is Missing is told from the POV of Hunter and Tori. The storyline is complex, with more layered questions as each clue is revealed. I love the suspense and mystery build-up as Hunter and Tori slowly unraveled pieces of the cases through - you guessed it - the dead victim. This story brought about some questions:- 1) Who was Miss Agnes? Why did she disappear? 2) What happens when you stop living – physically and spiritually? 3) How did Tori adjust her gift without talking to anyone to help her understand and hone her "gift"? How did she hide this with only one person knowing of this skill? How do Tori's abilities fit in with helping to fight crime? And many more...but each one of the questions was slowly answered in the end.
Initially, Hunter looks like an average detective on the outside, but his “regrets" consumed him inside. He felt alone and undeserving of happiness because of the choices he had to make. He did not even know he carried a lot of guilt until Tori helped him with his past. It was an unexpected one because it was a supernatural one that helped him find his "peace" after it was done...but this is only one of his issues. Hunter's secret that he kept from Tori was horrible! When I heard his internal confession, and even after telling Tori, his reasons were not justified for such an accusation. He blamed her for something that was totally not related or within her control. I got angry! I had to stop for a bit and internalize what he said. Tori was a lot better with her reaction to Hunter's cowardly reason for "letting her go." Readers - let me know what you think, but I was upset based on his background, position as a teacher, and a friend.
Tori is a unique character. Having her gift discovered at a young age and in a very gruesome way, I wondered if she did seek some help from mystics or researched a bit about her family history. Tori's gift is a special one. She later learns other things she can do to help those who are "stuck" in this world until they have resolved their affairs, even in the afterlife. She reminds me a bit of a Grim Reaper but on the "good" and pretty version. It was amazing when she did share her secret, aside from her brother, and I was relieved by the reaction she got.
As readers dive into the world of "seeing dead people" through Tori, readers will also try to help these ghosts find out what happened to them. The retelling is haunting, to say the least, and it will definitely bring a chill not because of the paranormal but of the brutality that some had to endure and remember. It was engaging, and being a masochist, I cried in a few parts of the book. I was a wreck!
The chemistry between Hunter and Tori was scorching and "fated" even before their visit to Lady Brigitte, who told them to stop resisting the inevitable. There is a lot of hurt inflicted between Hunter and Tori that needs sorting out. They did it slowly but with a lot of help from the people, dead and alive, who cares about them.
"She shook her head, and that was enough for me to walk away. For now. I would be back. I was coming back for my girl." - Hunter, Miss Agnes is Missing
Aside from solving a murder case and the missing Miss Agnes, Tori had unexpectedly stumbled into investigating. This latter case tested her loyalty to the badge she had sworn allegiance to versus the love meant-to-be. I believe she was overwhelmed by all the things that everyone was demanding from her. I was afraid that the murder and secrets would overshadow Miss Agnes' disappearance since many things happened that redirected Tori and Hunter's focus. I am happy to report that this was not the case. I felt all the case files presented were given ample justice and coverage.
On top of working the case investigations, Hunter and Tori discovered the big secret that links them further aside from their past. This secret forced their hands in understanding how each of them will play out in each other's lives and help solve the murder and Miss Agnes' disappearance. I was on the edge of my seat for this secret because it will also take you a ride down a rabbit hole of "the undead" and more mysterious backrooms.
The ghost friends staying with Tori are memorable characters, even with the limited page exposures. They protect and help her solve cases in their spiritual ways. They provided the much-needed humor to tension-filled scenes. I enjoyed the bantering between Tori and her ghost friends. Melissa and Alan choose to stay on, unwilling to move to the next, even when encouraged by Tori because they were happy and contented where they are. I was on my nerves when Alan disappeared for days, and Melissa got worried. Good thing that solved things later when he came back.
Overall, I highly recommend Miss Agnes is Missing to readers who enjoy paranormal, mystery, suspense, contemporary romance, and light some drama books. A fascinating read about the supernatural, second chance love, redemption, and healing, Miss Agness is Missing showcases the beauty of family truths and positivity in the end. The story is complex and layered with several layers that will astound and surprise readers with a lovely ending!
From start to finish, this book grabbed me and sucked me right on in.
This is my first book by T. Ashley and by the way this one captivated me, it definitely won’t be my last!
Tori defines girl power! She proved herself early on in her career that she could use her gift to help others. From the moment she first found her power, she used it to the best of her ability. As she grew up, she felt she needed to do more to help those lost ones she encountered. She heard the rumors about how she often was able to crack a case but those were just words and no one really knew the truth. Throw in some unlikely friends and one hot ex that you thought you were over PLUS a mystery and you have yourself a great story that makes you want and need more!
Hunter, he clearly had an ulterior motive to call on the one person he gave up for reasons he didn’t understand at that time! Let’s not mention his hot smoldering gaze and sexy smirk that could make any girl weak in the knees. Of course that one girl was immune to his shenanigans, or was she?
Mystery! Mystery! Mystery!
I absolutely LOVED Tori’s superpower as I refer to it! She helped so many people make the next journey all the while helping to discover what happened to them! The opening scene gives you an introduction of this and OMG!!!! I was seriously not expecting it! I laughed and cried and gasped for breath. From then on, I could NOT put the book down!
The storyline was phenomenal, the characters were entwined with each other and played a key part in Tori’s life. I loved the love hate relationship Tori and Hunter had! It made for one heck of a enemies to lovers paranormal read. Miss Agnes Is Missing is a paranormal thriller with a hint of romance but not too much that it over powers everything else.
I absolutely adored this book and recommend it to anyone that needs something new, different, vibrant, and refreshing to read!
I had the privilege to read an ARC of Miss Agnes is Missing from Literary Designs.
I really liked what this book had to offer. It was something different and refreshing to read.
What I loved about this book was the fact that it touched on corruption, crimes, and it had just a touch of romance. My only complaint is the title is about Miss Agnes, but, her missing happened further in the story.
The two main characters, Tori and Hunter, were really lovable. They had a pretty nasty breakup but they have to put their differences aside to solve a murder case. Tori has the gift of communicating and seeing the dead; it’s what makes her the best at her job. Hunter also has some special powers, as well and it was funny how he was so rattled the first time he noticed his power. Together, these two are able to solve a murder and they obtained the answers to find Miss Agnes. This book captured my attention from the beginning and did not let up until I finished. I truly didn’t know what to expect from the storyline.
The author did a great job tying this story together. Her imagination is out of this world. This was my first read from this author and I am looking forward to reading more books.
This isn’t my usual genre, but the storyline captured my attention from the beginning and I was hooked until the end. There was a lot going on, it was easy to get lost in the pages, because there were so many series of events. At first, it was hard to make sense of what was happening, but the author did a great job tying this story together and at the end the pieces fell into place.
There was a bit of romance here, but I wanted more! There was so much sexual tension between Tori and Hunter and I was waiting for the moment when it would be like “okay professional stuff to the side, what’s really good”. We got the peeks into what could be, but nothing all the way. Which was okay, because it didn’t take away from the story.
This was my first read from this author and I’d be interested in seeing what else she can do. The creativity she showed with this body of work was a beauty. I truly didn’t know what to expect from the storyline, but was happy with the outcome.
I received an ARC of Miss Agnes is Missing from Literary Designs.
Seeing dead people most of her life molded Victoria’s life. Things were never normal and as an adult she lives with spirits in her house. This story is a two for one. Tori is called in to help solve a murder for her x boyfriend so in addition to the murder mystery there is angst and tension. Her spirits are the second story because a very important one comes up missing. It’s a double detective story with some twists that make it an enjoyable read. There are some hints that Hunter is a dominating hottie in the sheets but hints are all you really get which is okay. Was just kind of hoping for a little something because the angst and tension are high. I would have liked to see a little more on the take down of the living bad guys since there was such a build up for the case but over all it’s a good read.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. What I liked most about the story was the author’s ability to interweave a series of events which initially seemed not to make any sense but at the end they all interlocked. Tori has been a ghost whisperer since being a child and she uses this gift to help the dead leave and move into a new reality. When she’s involved in a murder case (she’s a detective) , she will need to use all her ability to unravel the tangle. In this entire mess, she will have the help of her ex boyfriend, who in the meantime becomes aware of his special gift too. Along with the murder, she will also need to take care of the dead who in the meantime have not yet moved on. As the reader can see, Tori has a lot going on but all in due time in this fantastic and enjoyable read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book Miss Agnes is missing. Not only was is a compelling story about murder and corruption, but also with a supernatural element that felt grounded and never out of place. The novel was surprisingly light for the subject matter, which I really appreciated. The characters were fun and funny despite the circumstances and it was a really great balance which made for a very quick read that I never needed a break from.
As with many detective novels, this would lend itself really well to a series and I hope she continues to write them. I would definitely continue to read them. I was not ready to leave these characters behind.

Miss Agnes Is Missing by T. Ashley is a paranormal romance.
This is the first book of T. Ashley's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I am not going to lie I chose to read this book because of the cover. I was on the fence with the blurb if I was going to love the book or not. But, I was pulled in from the first chapter and binged in one sitting.
I loved the relationship between Hunter and Victoria "Tori". Their history is messy but you couldn't help root for them. I loved Tori's character and her connection to the spirit world.
I would highly recommend this book if you like paranormal romances, second chance romances, romantic suspense or crime fiction romances.
I was a little worried when I started this book. It isn't my usual genre but I was drawn in from the first page! Watching Tori & Hunter solve the murder and figure out what happened to Miss Agnes was so intriguing. T. Ashley did such an amazing job at weaving all these aspects together and create such a great story! I can't wait to read more from her in the future!!!
I haven’t read a good murder mystery in years and this was the perfect one to jump back in with! Tori and Hunter have such a dynamic connection. Miss Agnes almost takes a back seat but I suppose that’s the way it really should be. Delightful story and a quick read. I highly recommend it!
Loved this read!!! An easy read that just made me want to keep swiping to the next page. I enjoyed the suspense. The ending was not at all what I predicted. I’m a sucker for romance and this has some in it. I hope there will be more to continue the story.
I liked the premise of this book but the whole thing was so rushed it wasn't enjoyable. As a reader I encounter and even expect errors in finished books however the amount of errors in this one was just too much for me. At one point I think the author was even calling one of the Characters by a different name. The scene that I believe was thrown in for shock factor really just threw the whole story off for me and left me scratching my head. I don't know maybe all of the "odd" things were to lead into other books in the future, maybe a series? I will never know though because I won't be picking them up.
I enjoyed reading this paranormal mystery. I loved the relationship between the two main characters Tori and Hunter. And the scenes with the “extras” made it really sweet and funny. I had a feeling about Miss Agnes and how she was connected. I was just a little off. I think you would enjoy this book.
It was a lovely story, strong female character, clean romance. Loved the idea of this novella! I do feel like it maybe could have been a bit more? I had some questions, why did Miss Agnes go missing (to be exact, how did she know where to go in the end?). It needed some more clarification for me on some points. But, that being said! I did love the story and it definitely has potential.

I really enjoyed the supernatural aspect of this book! I did feel that the plot points were kinda all of over and not as smooth as it could of been. I did enjoy this and plan on reading more!
3.5 rounded up...I thought this book was good. I liked the relationship between Tori and Miss Agnes. There were alot of editing mistakes to the point I almost got confused if the error wasn't corrected in the next few pages. I liked the jist of the book though.
This was an amazing story. I was unable to put it down...and ended up finishing in a few hours. I fell in love with the main character very quick as she face challenges that led her to her chosen career as a cop, and then continued to love her as a very strong female was not afraid to insert herself, be bold, and stand up for what it right! Very good! Highly recommended!!!
Wonderful Book! The story is intriguing and keeps you turning the page, the characters are true and fun to read, and overall the book is very enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book. Tori and Hunter are detectives that have a past. And Tori has a secret. These two work through a case together but also through their feelings for each other. A unique concept and a very entertaining story.

New author to me, and I am just mesmerized by this book! I feel like I was snatched up, and held hostage after the first few pages! Was so intrigued by the premise of this story, and was not disappointed! I loved Tori! They way she was able to handle her gift with such grace, at such a young age was just everything! The twists, turns and backflips that were happening, had my head spinning; but was not ready for that revelation! Whew! Damn good read! 👍👍👍
The idea for this book is amazing! A person who wants to become a homicide detective who can see dead people? That's a great and very interesting idea. It also immediately brings up questions for me as a reader. How will they handle this in their job? How do they handle things like that in their day to day life? How do they keep it secret? No one in their right mind would believe you if you said you see dead people, right? We get a few answers on those questions, but Tori, one of the pov characters, doesn't really hide her sight for very long in the story and we don't really see her struggle with telling Hunter her biggest secret. It's almost glossed over and I would've loved to see more depth in moments like those. She suddenly has to trust her ex boyfriend with the information that she sees dead people, someone who has already broken her trust before. What makes her believe that he doesn't think she's crazy? Why does she trust him on his word that he doesn't think that? Things like that could've really given both Tori and Hunter more depth in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love Tori as a strong female lead who still has her insecurities when it comes to her love life and is great at what she does. The whole thing that goes at lady Brigitte is something I LOVED! By far my favourite part of the book. But overall it felt kind of rushed and not deep enough for my taste. How quickly everything (the murder of the girl, the corruption in the office, and the missing case) was resolved, was almost unsatisfying. It felt kind of rushed in my opinion. There's a lot of potential in this book and there are still some great questions that are left unanswered. Of course this is completely my opinion and I see that a lot of people actually really loved this book, but I still wanted to give some of my points on it as well.

Honestly, I like the storyline and how different it is from other books. The story involves Tori who has the ability to speak to dead people, a.k.a spirits.
As much as I like the storyline, I feel that it was quite fast, not rushed, just fast and too smooth. The murder mystery was solved too easily as was Hell's part and the ending. Tori and Hunter's romantic relationship has quite a past which they are trying not to affect their professional relationship. I was totally looking forward for their remade bond, but unfortunately there wasn't much.
This is a clean romance with about 150 pages which has moments where you'll smile and chuckle.
Definitely enjoyed reading this but would've loved more suspense, mystery and romance.
•••••••••••••••••••••••• I've recieved an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Victoria "Tori" can see ghosts, and when she gets called in to investigate a homicide with her ex things get sticky. When Miss Agnes, the ghost that has been with Tori the longest goes missing, she goes in search of answers to find out what happened.
I think Tori was a great character, strong, intriguing, doesn't take any crap from anyone, and fun to follow. I also enjoyed Hunter but didn't connect as much with his thoughts. The setup for the book was interesting and left me wanting to know what came next. I enjoyed the duel point of view but struggled a bit with the plot setup and conclusion. The ending felt a little rushed and I wish it had been flushed out a bit more and the big reveal had been built up a bit better throughout. I enjoyed the shock of the surprise but wanted more details in the end.
While this is not a book that normally would have been on my radar, I'm glad it came my way through a reading group and I'm excited to discuss it further.
Miss Agnes is Missing is a well written paranormal romance between Tori and Hunter by T. Ashley. I enjoyed reading this book because T. Ashley didn’t just focus on the fact Miss Agnes was missing or the sex. She took her time with the character development and was detailed enough to grab your interest and hold it until the last page. The fact that Miss Agnes didn’t go missing until towards the end of the book made it difficult to guess why and what happened. A great story about love, lost, forgiveness, trust, happiness, and closure. You will experience tears of joy after reading this book.

I loved the premise of the book. The characters were interesting and the story line kept me engaged. I felt the ending was too abrupt as I wanted to know more about what was going on in the police department and more detail of what Hunter was experiencing as his relationship with Tori grew. There were several grammar errors or missing words that kept distracting me.
