I did everything in my power to resist Cameron's never-ending need to have me as his own. The heat of his hunger and the fervor of his attacks on my will was merciless, wearing me down as I struggled under the weight of Jack's ceaseless craving and possessive need to reclaim me… as well as his surveillance of my every move.
I was also forced to fight Sebastian Gravier's growing desperation to have me submit to him so that he could educate me in the dark pleasures of the Black Oak Society that have been so carefully crafted by his wicked deviance.
What the resistance didn't know is that as they were finalizing their plan to take down Quercus Velutina once and for all, the Society were mounting one of their own, with brutality and betrayal that no one could have ever imagined.
Despite the victory of his bloodshed, Sebastian's restless hunger for suffering and revenge never abated, and once Cameron made it clear to Jack that he intended to take me for his own, Gravier finally got what he had ached for--Jack declaring all-out war on Cameron, restless and ready to hand down his own special brand of justice. _______________________________________________________________
He thinks he has won, but the war will not be over until Jessynia belongs to me and me alone. And my craving for her flesh and my need to possess her soul will never end... _______________________________________________________________

Full review to come. I'm not reading further than this book after reading the author's note at the end.
Book 1 is still a five star book to me, but I'm so disappointed in where this series lead.
Ugh. nevermind. I just finished the author's note and I may still read the next book to see where this leads. I'm so disappointed the author hasn't bothered to take time to work on her craft. Her writing style has potential, but needs so much work.
I just want to note that my 1 star rating has absolutely nothing to do with Jack. I like that the Society has its claws back into Jack and Jessynia. I like what Jessynia was forced to watch at the end. The writing style needs so much work. This felt like a rough first draft. There would be pages upon pages of dialogue that was repetitive, not necessary for the plot, and should have been cut out. I wasn't a fan of the new-agey, mystical stuff regarding The Society having the ability to subconsciously communicate with its members nor was I a fan of Jessynia being able to communicate with the dead. This series started out contemporary and realistic. If I wanted to read that kind of stuff I'd pick up a paranormal or urban fantasy book.
Btw Cameron and Jess win the award for most annoying couple of the century.
I know authors always hate it when a reader rates a book low and continues to read the series. Book 1 was so good, hands down five stars for me, and got me invested in the characters. I can't quite put it down. I wish I could.
Typically I'd try to leave more constructive criticism, but since this author has plowed forward in a series with 5 books and is still making the same mistakes, I'm not sure it's worth it. I am going to take the time to leave more constructive criticism in book 2 of this series.
I had been really looking forward to this book but found it very disappointing. Aside from all the typos, words out of order or simply missing, there is a lack of continuity with the previous books. Cameron's dark side is much more pronounced, making him seem more selfish. Jessenia is suddenly a bit psychic, communicating with dead spirits. Why wait until book 3 to bring that in? There is a lot of repetition with characters' thoughts/reasons being explained over and over, as if the reader is simple minded. Lastly, these are supposed to be smart people. So why do they REPEATEDLY put her in unsafe situations with the same disastrous results? I was hoping for a smarter story that didn't insult my intelligence.
Review for the entire series ! This made me so mad! so, so mad! The H cheats for months because "he has to", because " he feels like he doesn't belong with someone good as the heroine", and because he has the need to self-destruct. The heroine finds out and she forgives him because he loves him very very very much! *they are married*.
Jack, the cheater is very possessive and controlling, and he keeps telling the heroine that she is his wife, his " property". Really? I would have divorced him instantly for that s***it! Some weeks after their reconciliation, the heroine sees Jack and OW having sex again..yeah, the as**le did it again. This time, she leaves, and he asks her to come back..and maybe to leave him be like this when tey are not together. :)) yeah, he had the audacity to ask her to let him cheat because he loves her and he is " always coming back".
Anyway, the heroine was a doormat, the H was an as***le, the plot was stupid and the execution ridiculous. After I skip read the 3 th book I found ut that the author changed her mind and made this a 5 books series * it begun as a 3 book series*. The heroine is now wanted by 3 guys, one the leader of a secret society, and she is heartbroken because she doesn't think she can forgive Jack...
I don’t understand how there can be 3 more books. The redundancy is ridiculously exasperating! Seriously, why am I even still here? I keep thinking I’m DONE but I can’t seem to actually stop reading. Skimming, that’s what I’m resorting to before I lose my mind. Obviously something is keeping me holding on. Maybe it’s Jack, maybe it’s Cameron, maybe I just need a resolution! Jack, it must be Jack. The man is captivating. It’s definitely not Jessynia; she’s getting on my nerves. I’m betting there’s a threesome in book 4, or 5 or 6. Perhaps that’s why I’m continuing 😆 But jezus, 3 more freaking books? Fuck
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! Love triangle, this series is so full of intrigue, it as at times nail bitingly good. I just want to get to the end already, to find its not a trilogy, Jesus! That annoyed me especially when it appears there will be a 5th book that is not out yet..ugh!! Very addictive series though, I highly recommend
All I want to do is scream JAAACCCCKKKK! I'm obsessed with him and need more. This series touches on the deepest, dirtiest, darkest kind of romance and I could NOT put this book down. The more I learned about the male charecters the more I wished I was Jessenyia. She has it all and I kind of want to slap her out of jealousy over the men she attracts. But fine, she can have Cameron... Move on over Jess, I'll take Jack and Sebastian and you can scram. Just kidding. Sort of. Not really though.
This book is highly original and extremely addiciting not to mention arousing and entertaining. I loved it and this author is now an easy one click for me. I'm off to see if I can't find a Jack of my own until book four comes out since I seem to be suffering from withdrawals already. 5 STAR MUST READ FOR ME.
This is the 3rd book of The Black Oak and must be read as a series to understand. This book went more down the rabbit hole. Going onto more detail with the society and Jack, Cam and Sebastian's past... bloody heartbreaking in some scenes. I love Jess, she's so independent, feisty and not afraid to go for what she wants. I love the boys and each with their own personalities. #teamsebastian. The secrets kept coming that left me shocked, and that ending!! WOW. I'm so looking forward to book 4.
Now that Jessynia is back with Jack, his hold on her is tighter than ever, when he reneges on their agreement for a divorce in the allotted time, she specified she cannot help but be aggrieved, that for them there is no other choice and that divorce for them is not an option.
Jack only has so much patience, his control slipping, still coming to terms with her affair with Cameron, Jack begins to make demands for a reconciliation, to work on their marriage, enforcing what will happen, making his terms non-negotiable, including his surveillance of her every move, including Cameron.
Amidst all the chaos, Jessynia begins to put a plan into place, to get away from the all-consuming need to be controlled, to regain her freedom, only she may not get a choice in the matter when there are other people in play manipulating everything at every turn.
Jessynia continues to connect with her friends, leaning on them for support as they try to understand what is happening in Jessynia’s life and what is going on between her and Jack, and her and Cameron. Only they would not even be able to grasp anything of what it is that she is going through.
Through other means, the resistance finds a way to contact Jessynia, making her aware that they know what has been happening and that they are making plans to get her out of the situation that she is in. But Cameron is not coping well, spiraling to point where they must physically restrain him.
We get to delve into the backstory of Jack and Cameron, there connection with Alexandra and her relationship with Sebastian. The physical, sexual, psychological, and mental abuse they endured at Alexandra’s hands, stemming from Alexandra’s own trauma from when she was a teenager, shows the depths and lengths that this society will go to in maintaining their iron fist control over them.
Jack then opens to Jessynia about his past, his family, the abuse he endured and when he first met Alexandra. This leads to Jack trying to take advantage of the situation, attempting to force himself onto her, not giving him consent, he acquiesces.
And then the moment comes when the resistance steps in, removing Jessynia from the situation that she is in, only for Cameron and Jack to face off, the emotions swirling through her at the pain and anger coursing through Jack, knowing that Jack must let her go for her to be free, this is not the beginning and there will be no forgiveness no understanding when she is faced with Jack once again.
Then doubt and indecision begins to set in, wondering if she has made the right choice, causing her to go into default mode, to cope with the anxiety and the pain of the events that have occurred. And when she is finally reunited with Cameron, he cannot stand the pain that she is in, he does the only thing he knows, he takes control of her, claiming her and marking her in the most primal way, promising her that he will heal her and protect her from them.
Even when they are part, then back together, they have this rapport with each other, friendly, fun, and flirtatious, enjoying each other's company which then shifts into more of a sexual nature with the playful banter and innuendo. As she re-connects with Gabriel, she learns some truths about the nature of his relationship with Cameron’s sister Evie.
We then delve furthermore into Cameron’s story with Sebastian, his connection with Rose and the skilled way Sebastian continues to control and manipulate both Cameron and Rose to appease his own dark delectable delights of pleasure and pain.
Cameron continues to pleasure and dominate Jessynia, indoctrinating her, manipulating her to submitting to his delectable and deviant ways of pleasure, introducing to her other forms designed to heighten one's pleasure more through the art of knot tying. And it is in this moment that they both declare their love for one another.
But as they bask in the glory of their newfound romance, Cameron opens to Jessynia, sharing with her trauma from his past and his time at Quercus Velutina, how there was no shame, no rules, no limit, making him feel like a god, Sebastian teaching him how to inflict pain, as time moved forward, Cameron began to suspect things, he was finding it hard to control his anger, starting to pull himself away from that place, and when shocking truths are revealed to Jessynia, she reacts the only way she knows how, by letting her outrage, fear, disbelief, get the better of her, it's like she doesn’t know who he is anymore.
Then Charles shares with Jessynia some harsh truths about Cameron and Gabriel, giving her the opportunity to think of them in an unusual way, giving them the benefit of the doubt, working towards making peace with the trauma that they have in their past
Cameron then seeks out Jessynia, sharing with her the rest of his story surrounding Rose, no matter how painful the truth, she hears him out. He reflects on his past with her, how he has always wanted her, how she helped him heal and reconcile with those dark parts of his life.
And then her world flips when she finds out from her brother about a fire that ingulfed her god-parents kitchen, their livelihood, but Jessynia knows that there is more behind this blatant attack on her family than meets the eye, with both Cameron and Gabriel appeasing her worries.
During a meeting with the resistance, they move forward in their plan, including Jessynia filing for divorce from Jack, it is during this meeting the Jessynia shares her concerns of there being someone close to Cameron, who is intent on betraying him and them, they yet again appease Jessynia’s concerns stating that Sebastian likes to play mind games.
During a private interlude Jessynia and Cameron shares plans for what their future will be, relishing in the fact that they are one step closer to their freedom, and then a message from her brother Finn throws her a curve ball, but they pale in comparison when Cameron gets the news that Silas is dead.
And just when they are comfortable enough their enemies strike in the form of Sebastian, Isaiah, Vallen Leon, Steven and Dominic. Restraining Cameron and holding Jessynia against her will, Cameron unleashing all his fear and fury promising retribution if they so much as hurt Jessynia, then Cameron is forced to fight, enduring pain like no other.
Jessynia is forced to face Sebastian alone, again, going round and round in a never-ending vicious cycle, she demands to know what he wants from her, but his answer has not changed since their last conversation, then Sebastian shares with her what he can do to her friends and family, rocking her foundations to the core, as much as it pains her, Sebastian feeds off her pain which also gives him deep pleasure, her pain and her pleasure is one he craves desperately. Then ultimatums are made, lines are drawn, decisions made, choices to be accepted as there is no other way.
Jessynia is then reunited with Cameron, chaos and agony ensue, indecisive and indecision clouds everyone's judgment on how to proceed, how to move forward, but what it comes down to, is the one who is willing to make the sacrifice, to put others needs first before her own, to ensure they remain safe, loved, and kept from harm at all costs.
Then a startling revelation from Christian puts Jessynia on edge, and then comes the heartbreaking choice that she had made to leave Cameron, feeling numb, but that is the least of her worries when she is forced to face Jack, he takes control, taking ownership of her, mind, body, and soul, reminding her of her duties to him as his wife, reminding her that she belongs to him, reminding herself to take her pleasure above his own.
Jack and Jessynia meet with Jack’s family, his bothers, father and father's fiancée, anger flairs and barbs are thrown, after a while Jessynia is given a small reprieve, then she makes a choice, she wants to learn how to fight, Gina giving her a chance to show her worth.
Then Jack makes a bold choice, forcing Jessynia to learn how to use a weapon, to defend herself in the instance that Jack cannot. Jessynia then faces her friends, having to reconcile with the fact that she is now back with Jack, they cannot even fathom or to begin to understand why she has made this choice, leaving her and her friends in an impossible place.
And then she receives a note from Cameron, not able to comprehend the magnitude of the choice that he is making, of the sacrifice that she made to keep him safe from harm. Then Jack is forced to make a choice, putting Jessynia in an impossible situation, forcing her to go to a place that she never wants to step foot into ever again.
Jessynia reaches out to Gabriel, where he imparts words to help relieve her of any stress and anxiety, she is harboring towards stepping foot in that place, but before they leave, it is revealed that Jessynia has been writing down every detail of the society, fighting in the hopes to seek retribution while no one is looking.
And now there is no turning back, they are at the impasse, where the crossroads intersect, and Jack is forced to make a choice, one he knows that Jessynia will never accept, he needs her co-operation to get through this next part. Jessynia continues to push boundaries, angering those that would harm her without consequences. When she is forced to watch an intimate act between Jack and Alexandra, when afterwards her control snaps and she lashes out at those who would bask in her humiliation, shunning Jack’s ideas of protection, and when she is shown into Sebastian’s room, she takes in the unworldly appearance of a dark and depraved man, when it all gets too much for her, when she is robbed of light and blanketed in darkness, when she feels she is losing control of all her senses, everything gives way, as she is caught in the arms of a man none other than Sebastian himself.
But that ending though, what Jessynia suspected to be true, that was just the beginning of something more that she would never be able to comprehend.

Monique Edenwood is one of the most talented authors I found in recent times. This series goes from strength to strength, drawing you into the dark and twisted world of Black Oak. The plot, worldbuilding, characters and tension around this story are so well written it almost feels real, bringing out so many emotions you will feel as is if you are living it. This series needs to be read in order and it's not an easy read, it is dark, dangerous and violent at times. It is also erotic and is aimed at readers over 18. If you enjoy a well rounded dark tale with intrigue and alpha males, not to mention strong minded women the I recommend this series, trust me it will be worth it.
I'm honestly, so obsessed with these books. I get completely lost in the story and I hate having to put it down.
This is the third book in the series and my god does the drama/action/mysteries and alpha males just keep on coming. Jess goes through so much in this book, that I really don't know how she just doesn't stay in bed to avoid it all! Cameron and Jack continue to be dominating, powerful and I definitely liked Jack a little more in this book. I'm still firmly team Cameron though. Then we have Sebastian. He seems a proper psychopath, so I can't wait for more of him.
I'm absolutely buzzing/dying for the next installment. I need more, like right now.
Jack, Jess and Cam's story continue to blow my mind. There are so many people involved in their relationship and it just gets darker as the story unravels. Is protecting her family and friends going to free her or is it just a tactic to get her over to the darker side? Definitely not for the faint hearted to read for the triggers of childhood trauma. The suspense coupled with scorching hot chemistry makes this an amazing series
Out of all the books in this series so far, this one hit me different and it was a bit difficult for me to rate. I say that because I picked it up months ago, stopped about 50% in because I was a bit on the fence with the direction it was heading in, so I figured a break would be best, to refresh and I just finished it today. 💗
I will admit although this wasn’t my favorite, the last half of the book really made me shift my rating higher because I did enjoy the second half more than the first half, as there was more suspense, conflict, and amplified emotions at play and I do enjoy whenever the society makes an appearance on page. It seems like those chapters and scenes are the best in my opinion, because there’s conflict, intrigue, heightened emotions and action surrounding Seb and his elite club of goons.
This book has some great moments but also a few questionable instances where there is some out of character parts that had me a bit puzzled, as well as a lot of grammar errors. I’m not a stickler too much for that but I did have to pause and reread some lines because there was a missing word or incorrect word used. Not a biggie, so try not to let it get in your way of enjoying this story!
Although, I didn’t love it as much as the previous installments, because it felt like two different stories in one, it still brought out the emotions in me and the ending had me screaming like “Whattttttt!” lol 💥 Despite my thoughts of this story having a different tone and feel to it compared to the last two, and yes, Jess, is being pulled from all sides it seems, with very little ground to stand on, and I think she will grow a bit more backbone soon as the ending indicated. (Go Jess! 👃 🥊) I did enjoy the story overall.
The first half wasn’t exactly my favorite, there’s a lot more daddy talk and focus on her and Cam’s relationship in this one, and the daddy talk sprinkled throughout I didn’t expect and just didn’t seem to vibe with her relationships with both Cam and Jack before, so that was something new and honestly a bit unusual to me. Also, Jess went from being very outspoken and kinda brash (dirty talk in bed with Cam in first half, very confident and forthcoming at times, not afraid to speak up quite boisterously, yet she’s always been a shy, meek, vulnerable and timid female mc ) just a few out of character parts that had me wondering what was going on with her character. Especially when I got to the later half and she was back to the old Jess again. It seemed like she was two different people and that might’ve been the point since she is a different person with Cam versus Jack etc, but it kinda threw me a bit as I prefer her to stay in character as her usual self with some sass.
I did enjoy the second half a lot more. Jess is again caught between the two main characters, Jack and Cam, within the binds of all the constraints and discomfort that the society has placed on her, for lack of better words, Jess seems to be a pawn in a bigger game at play here, so we see her with a bit of both of them in this third book, like a tug-of-war. I admit I’m team supposed, “villain” here, so I do enjoy Sebastian’s character the most because I feel he is misunderstood and I think there’s some things the author hasn’t yet unveiled to the audience in regards to him, and with the way it ends, I’m very intrigued by where book 4 will go! (Yay, Team Seb!) lol 💥💗🔥
There’s also a bit of repetition in this book but I appreciated it, because at times it helped to recap who everyone was and reflected a bit on past memories to remind me while reading what happened in book 1 or 2, but for those reading these books all back to back, you might notice the repeated reflections in this story as more cumbersome. I’m very excited to see where the author takes this story, and I highly look forward to book 4 because it sounds like Seb will be featured more and his character is one of the most interesting to read about in my opinion! Bravo! 🥂 4/5 **** stars! 💥
I honestly can't find the words to describe how I feel after reading this book. I question everything. Who is wrong, what is right, is there a treator in the group... I am so confused but in the right way. This book makes me think about how the world works. Is there truly right or wrong, or is their a grey line? Are we humans drawn to are own dark side with trauma and pain? I never have felt so invested with a series as this one.
Now on to the book.
We get to explore more on the Society, the characters and the enemies of the Sociey. The tension, mystery and suspense is dripping from the pages. I love the dialogues, the inner thoughts and dynamic between the different characters. The intimacy, passion and commitment or lack for that is written elaborate.
I am intrigued with Sebastian. I hope he is not truly gone in the dark side and that we can see a glimps of his childhood self before he was corrupt. I love that we get more povs to read in this book and can see the different perspective of the characters and their story. I am going to read part 4 right away!
Book 3 of 5 I knew going in to this book that I would not like the events, and possibly not many of the characters. But nothing prepared me for the wreckage - both of the characters and me.
Jack is still a part of the society and participating in all it has to offer. Of course, he really wants Jess back. Jess has opened up to a future with Cam, and is ready to leave Jack behind. The Society is not happy with Cam, and they resort to violence and blackmail to get Jess back with Jack...... all for a price, of course. In order to protect themselves from the wrath of Sebastian, Jess has to go to the Society and gets a first hand look at what her husband is capable of doing with the evil witch; Alex.
Let me just say that I have been angry, upset, and cursing up a storm with the cliffhanger in this book. I know it all has to happen for a reason and there are two more books, and my guy could still come out on top. But, man the angst is high! Love triangles with betrayal are my favorite trope, so why am I surprised at my reaction when it is what I yearn for??
The writing is fabulous, the story is deep with lots of character development introducing many new characters that I would love to see get a spin-off. There are multiple POV, which made the depth of the characters even better.
My initial reaction after reading this one spanned from anger to full on sadness. Now, I am laughing at myself because I am no longer mad at Jack. This guy has done everything that I would normally switch to the other guy as a favored H, but each time I come back to Jack. Back to Jack......... please let Jess come back to Jack, too.
So here I remain in wait mode, hoping that redemption for Jack and forgiveness by Jess is possible. Many things are still at play, but I’m sticking with Jack.
3.5 stars: I liked the first 2 books but this one drug on. Here is are my issues. Jess is supposed to be smart (that's what we keep reading) but doesn't act like it. Then there is Camaron who is extremely wealthy but puts them in harms way. Knowing how things work you would think that he would be smarter then the way he is portrayed. I did have to laugh at the water bottle tid bit. Jess is in a den of wolfs and she concerned about drinking out of a water bottle. We get it you are environmentally contentious but let it go it has run its course. Here is the thing the next book isn't out yet. Not sure if I will read it by the time it comes out I will have forgotten about this series. Its ok but nothing exceptional.
While the first two books, well, let me just make a small adjustment to that, the first book had me enthralled, the second book was getting a bit tedious, long rambling scenes that did nothing to advance the plot, this book was downright boring. So much pointless conversation, endless descriptions of the mens bodies (yawn) and the same trite dialogue from the second book. Really? There are FIVE books. Good lord, just wrap this up now please. I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of this series, I just don’t give a hoot about any of these characters.
Wow, it is hard for an author to have me so enthralled in book one to lose me this bad by book three, but she has managed to do so. I really loved book one. I was very invested in the characters and the plot, actually I still am. I knew this was a debut series for the author, but hoped that I would see growth in the writing as the story progressed. Unfortunately, not only did I not see growth, it actually went backwards, and I am not sure I can make it through the series. That will be a real shame.
I have read over 1,200 pages and feel like we have done nothing but gone in circles. It reminds me of watching a soap opera where you watched an episode in March, didn't get to watch another one until July, and it was like you never missed a thing. Again this book could and should have been 200 pages and we could have had a great story. Instead we had hundreds of pages of fluff, inner dialoge and frustration with some story in between.
I saw an outline in another readers review and thought it was perfect for what I was thinking:
1. Adjectives and adverbs
Thoughout the books there is not only repetitive use of certain words (like masculine), but often the author is telling the reader how strong, dominant, or fierce a character is....this isn't an effective way to tell a story. I want to be shown how strong the character is through his actions.
A good editor will help call out these instances of overuse of adjectives and adverbs. This is such an issue throughout this series that it's turning me off from wanting to read anything else this author might write, including the next three books in the series, which is a shame. I think this author is incredibly talented, but this is something that needs to be worked on if the author wants to truly excel in this gendre.
2. Dialogue & inner monologue
The author makes the mistake of having each character use the same words in their dialogue and inner mono. This comes across as inauthentic, and took me out of the story. The dialogue often felt inauthentic, which was strange, since I thought the dialogue was excellent in book 1. I would read a page, then three pages later the exact wording was used again. I would stop and go back thinking my kindle page didn't turn to the next page, but no it did, it was the exact same wording.
Thoughout the books Cameron verbally apologizes after sex for "letting his inner beast out," to describe himself. Jack uses similar phrases about himself being a "monster" over and over. Men do not speak like this. And there was just too much of this throughout the story. Every time the story would start to pick up and I started feeling the angst, tension and passion, there would be pages and pages of inner dialogue before the next step in the scene took place. The tension, passion and momentum was totally lost.
3. Characterization
Women like different types of men. They don't all have to have the biggest dicks, have the biggest muscles, not all have to be the most "masculine, dominant, fierce." etc. I'm not saying the author needs to have them be completely different, but I think with good character development and some uniqueness to the two male main characters would have gone a long way.
4. Tie into the plot
-Problem with Cameron revealing The Society to Jess, putting her in danger. And his family. That was actually interesting. It would be more interesting if he had a darker motive for dragging her in.
-The Society threatened Jess's family if she doesn't become one of them. Why didn't she bring that up with Jack when he later rescued her? -Where does Jack's family fit in? What is the tie between his family and the Society?
-It's hard for me to believe Jack wasn't tracking Jess or checking in at her parents when she lied about staying with Cameron. Also hard for me to believe he hadn't figured out they're sleeping together, or that he stayed away for weeks before forcing her back when he knew she was with Cameron.
5. The love triangle
One thing that makes a good love triangle is the heroine developing a relationship with a man who is different than her current lover - she has a different dynamic with each of the MMCs. Maybe one lover appreciates her sense of humour more, is funnier himself, and she feels more lightweight with him, has more fun. While with the other man, there's a different connection - it might be based on sexual chemistry, whatever. Making Cameron and Jack so similar in this book reduced the intrigue and interest of the love triangle. Maybe she is the one who can save both of them, but make it a little different for each. I need her to want both of them for different reasons to make it believable.
6. Finally....
The numerous "empty threats" started to annoy me. After awhile this made the book lose tension, and left me, the reader, frustrated. In a book this dark and thrilling the plot would benefit from telling me about the worst thing that could happen to the heroine --then actually doing it. Throughout this series, I feel like "they" (being Jack, Cameron, the Society, Leon, etc.) were continually making threats, but nothing too bad ever happens to Jessynia.
After reading all the books up to now I can't emphasize how much talent I think this author has. I think she needs to take a step back, and she should think about using a developmental editor, beta readers, Alpha readers, or critique partners. This could really help this author reach her full potential. Sorry, but I can only give 2 stars.
Note: Enter The Black Oak and Black Oak Burning MUST be read prior to Black Oak Scorched.
I love a book that leaves me so hungover that I'm not quite sure what to do with my life afterward. So hungover that I'm not sure what book could hold my attention after that! This is definitely one of those books. I had no way of anticipating where this book would lead, but it was definitely one wild ride!
Though it was hard at times reading those super sexy, oh-so-hot-it-might-melt-my-kindle sex scenes between Jess and Cam, (I'm Team Jack or maybe I can be convinced to be Team Sandwich lol) I cannot deny the chemistry between the two! Cam is one dirty boy and I loved every minute of seeing his wilder side!
In BOS we learn more about the circumstances that made Jack and Cam the men they are and the demons that haunt them. On one side we see Cam, a man that has acknowledged his trauma and is actively seeking serious help to move past it. It still haunts him, but he's trying to heal some of the old wounds. Jack, on the other hand, is still in a way running from the truth about those that abused and mistreated him during his childhood and teen years. He's been conditioned and sometimes something major must happen to force a character to face that which they wish to deny. Jack is on a journey and it's not always an easy one as we see in BOS.
It's easy to see how Jess might fall in love with both men. They each are charming and have endearing qualities. Their individual devotion to her protection, well-being, and happiness is something every girl dreams of from her man. Even their stubborn and overly dominant personalities are swoon-worthy at times. I won't deny I'm nervous to think of how she could ever choose one over the other.
The ending of BOS left me in quite a state of anguish and anxiety. It was both an ending to praise the author over because she held no punches, but also an ending that leaves me wondering where we go from here. Jack. My poor damaged, precious Jack. My heart breaks for him. Sebastian is still a wild card and seeing what his relationship with Jess might be in the future is intriguing. I will say I have a hit list for this series. A list of characters I'd like to see beaten, humiliated, or just plain destroyed before the series is over lol. There is no doubt Mrs. Edenwood inspires passionate reactions in her readers. She creates characters that both drive us mad and make us fall in love in the same book. I look forward to the next book and where she takes it!
What an absolutely brilliant book!! This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2021 and it did not disappoint at all!! This whole series has captured my attention right from the start. Written so well, you honestly will not be able to put it down!!
This story is so much more than just a romance....it is a thriller, full of suspense, with an intricate dark plot filled with characters that will captivate you completely. Characters that will lead you on a roller coaster journey of different emotions and have you questioning everything, but most importantly what is right from wrong and do people deserve a chance at forgiveness?
In this the third book in the series, the love triangle that is Jack, Jess and Cam gets even more intense as we are drawn further into the world of The Black Oak, a world controlled by the dark, mysterious and evil Sebastian. A character i am drawn to, but one who terrifies me just as much as i am fascinated by him.
Jack and Cam are both Alpha's in their own right and i am unable to pick a side yet, to be honest i am team Jess all the way!! I want her to be happy whether that be Jack/Cam or even Sebastian?? What i do love is how deeply Jack and Cam want her and how they are willing to fight for her in anyway they can! I really think Sebastian could complicate things because deep down, Jess is just as drawn and intrigued by Sebastian as he is of her, i cant wait to see how that plays out in book four!
This story honestly deserves so much more than 5 stars!! It is my favourite book so far for 2021! Monique you have blown it out of the water again...this story just keeps getting better and better, i am so excited for book four...I just don't know how i am going to be able to wait till September!?
Black Oak Scorched KU 458 pgs ***.* 10/25/21 Jack, Jessynia & Cameron
3.5 stars rounded to 4. Sometimes I think Jessynia has no sense or no memory. She’s insistent on having her own place even after the huge trauma she went through at the beginning of the book. Cameron is a very dominant man, but I think he wants to protect her from the QV and Jack but she, as usual, just wants to go back to her normal life before anything more serious happens with Cameron. Again, there are a lot of mumbo jumbo pages, especially trying to psychoanalyze different characters which gets quite boring. The QV gets bolder and bolder in this book, causing more damage and havoc with others’ lives. At 87% I was surprised with a Jack’s point of view! This was a first in the 3 books so far. So much drama, the 2 male MCs are still acting like a whipped man always having to tell Jessynia they love her, how much, what they feel, it’s very weird to me that they are macho but also seem to have a femininity with their emotions. It’s a little off putting to me so I am having a hard time connecting to either one of the male characters. Jessynia is threatened and threatened by the QV al throughout the book which makes her make decisions that she doesn’t want to make, just to keep her family and friends safe. The other characters in the book seem to all be non-trustworthy to me. They all seem to have some hidden motives or agendas, but I can’t figure out which ones are true and which ones are spies and snitches for the QV. The ending was quite good! Very glad Jess learned to throw a punch too.
Black Oak Scorched has left me absolutely speechless! Book three of Enter The Black Oak series is explosive, erotic and decadent. Book 3 explains the childhood trauma Jack suffered as a child. Jack's father is abusive and terrorizes his young son. Jack's mother dies and this leaves him in the clutches of a bitter, hateful father. At the age of fifteen Jack is seduced by an older, experienced Jezebel. She has no concern for him. She uses him for her own sexual gratification. Alexandra is also a victim of abuse and trauma she suffered as a young girl. Monique Edenwood did amazing explaining how childhood trauma robs children of their innocence and identy. I wanted to rescue these poor souls and try to rehabilitate them. Jessynia is an amazing woman she fights for those she loves. She sacrifices her own wellbeing and sanity to protect her family and friends from the psychotic clutches of the diluted loonies that are involved with the secret society of Black Oak! Sebastian Gravier the sexy sadist is absolutely the most memorable! Sebastian is a psychotic conundrum that is a sadist that was also a victim of his mother's ridicule and abuse. He is mesmerized by Jessynia's innocence and bluntness! Wow! I am in love with Sebastian! I would love to exchange places with Jessynia! There is something about Sebastian that calls to me too! I believe he is worth saving! I would give this book a million stars! Tantalizing read! Erotic suspense at its finest!
The first book was excellent, the second a little less so, and this one, oh my goodness. Jess doesn't come across as feisty or strong, at all. More like naïve with no common sense what so ever. If everyone is telling you QV has everyone in their pockets and has no problem killing people who stand in their way, why on earth would you keep doubting. Sebastian himself tells her her family will suffer and yet she STILL wants to go to the police. I just could not. I know there are massive trust issues with Jack, but when he is telling you something is being done for your safety and you know the nature of the organization, why in the world are you fighting it? As others noted, a lot of repetition. At one point she said something followed by 3 pages of descriptions of stuff and then made the exact same statement again. The redundancy was difficult to overlook and I skimmed multiple pages because I didn't need every piece of furniture in a room described to me. Added nothing to the story. I am also not a fan of where the story line seems to be going with Sebastian. I do not feel her character is into the type of "darkness" he offers but I guess book 4 will attempt to convince me otherwise which will render the storyline entirely too predictable.
Wow! Yep, that's all I can say, no seriously; this book will stay with you for a while. I would recommend making sure you have a soft landing handy for the times when you want to throw your kindle down. The emotions this book evokes only goes to show what an amazing writer Monique Edenwood is, and that ending, well. I'm not saying much because you need to read it yourself, but you will be gagging for the next one like me. We need to know! I feel that now is the time to remind people that these characters are fictional and although your emotions run high when reading this book, please remember it is just that, a book, a story. An incredibly well-written story. We can not begin to assume we know what is going to happen, and I think that is one of the most amazing things about this series. Usually, I get an inkling of what might happen, and I'm ready for that Happy Ending. This is not that book. Buckle your seatbelt and prepare for a rollercoaster ride. I highly recommend this series. Please remember to read the books in order.
This book was a little bit better, but still extremely repetitive. several times I felt like I was reading the same sentence twice, which is frustrating when you have a 500 page book. The back-and-forth over and over again, felt a little redundant as well. I think the author was trying to convince me that her and Jack have this great love but all I see is manipulation and he’s pathetic. He’s jealous of Cam that’s clear because Cam is definitely a better man. I feel like that’s all that really matters to Jack he sabotaged their friendship right from the beginning and that’s not love. I just don’t buy it. He could’ve left when Cam did, but he still pulled her into this life by marrying her in the first place because he is a selfish prick. I wanted her to kill Jack so bad but no such luck. So far anyway maybe we’ll get lucky 😆 I’m definitely intrigued by Sebastian. Not for her obviously but his character is interesting. Not really feeling the whole dream thing but we shall see.
I sometimes admire authors who can write weak and pathetic heroes. It’s a gift really, and this author has a gift for description when it comes to a woman’s or man’s submission and weakness. In this story the author frequently describes the h—Jess—as having “empathy overdrive”. The h frequently says she does not care about her own pain. She only cares about relieving the pain of others. So..in other words she is a pain whore, because she also deliberately seeks out damaged individuals who hurt her. Now…having said all that what is the point of this story? The reason I rate this so low is the author endlessly repeats scenarios. The repetition has made this an overly long saga that is just an endless back and forth where nothing happens because the same thing keeps happening over and over. I honestly skimmed most of this. I am just skimming to the end of the series to see how this ridiculousness is resolved.
My heart keeps bouncing between Jack and Cameron In this utterly fantastic story, I absolutely love the characters and just alive made up my mind about which one I love more Monique just unravels it all and off I go again If I could give this book more stars I would The suspence is building and I don't have a clue how its going to work out I can't wait for the next instalment If your looking for hearts and flowers you won't find it here but I can promise you your heart will beat faster when Jack and Cameron whisper filthy words to Jess as each one tries to claim her for his own while fighting outside forces that could destroy everything they hold dear so start with Enter The Black Oak and you won't be disappointed This is a thrilling story and only Monique Edenwood can decide how this ends .Just divine
