Rate this book

Could be a four star book. The ideas may have been worth four stars. At times the writing was kinda grim. And, although I do appreciate it being a fully interdisciplinary project, I think it was clear that Costlow was better at analyzing some things more than others. Her initial work on Hunters Sketches was strong and so was her subsequent work on many paintings and both their historical and visual importance. However, other than these points, I thought many of the other literary texts were either not analyzed well (I didn’t read them obv so hard to tell on this) or just didn’t need to be talked about because they didn’t add enough. Along with this I thought Costlow could have cut down on the number of quotes she used as lots of them were too long or not necessary at all I thought. I think the book was like a super drawn out analysis of what can be gained from reading The Giving Tree and having a bunch of strong history lessons on top. Solid. Glad I read it. Could have made my essay better
